It had started out as a normal day, once again spent with Elegancia at her favorite place to visit, Calico Lane. The shopping trips between the two had grown more frequent, and certainly Adira didn't mind. It was nice, really, to have someone she considered a friend. She had never really been in one place long enough to develop friendships that were anything more than superficial and easily forgotten. Elegancia had certainly been an unexpected friend and teammate but appreciated as both. She had her downfalls, but she also had Adira's back, and that was worth more than anything to the young girl.

Readjusting her packages (she might have even had more than Ele today!) Adira flashed a smile at her companion. It was finally warm enough to not have to bundle up head to toe, and sunny as well. "Its nice out for a winter day. Where do you want to go next? I was thinking the bedding store, I'd like to get some new sheets..."

Behind her, the fountain, formerly covered in ice began to trickle. It had been frozen over since the flash freeze they'd had a few weeks ago, which Adira now attributed to the snow princess. It wasn't much of an outflow, but enough to make the entire thing sheen with wetness and lose its frosted color, turning into warped glass. If one looked at it really intently, they might had seen something swimming around in circles, waiting for the ice to break. In fact, the very frightened looking child a few steps over might've been doing just that, and was now frantically tugging on his mothers sleeve who shooed him away impatiently as she talked on her cellphone.

"The bedding store sounds absolutely lovely, really, it does," Elegancia began hesitantly, "but honestly? I'm absolutely famished. Would you mind terribly if we stopped to grab a bite somewhere?" Elegancia sat upon a bench opposite from the fountain, placing her bags at her feet. "And I'm tired. Really, really tired!" She whined, rubbing her ankles softly. Such a young and beautiful girl wasn't meant for long bouts of walking, shopping or not-- nevermind that she battled monsters on a regular basis.

As Elegancia, she expected to be pampered and doted upon-- Sailor Rosalind, however, was a completely different story. She could handle herself, or most of the time, atleast.

Watching the child anxiously stare at the fountain, and tugging on his mother's sleeve, Elegancia couldn't help but feel slightly... annoyed? Children were annoying like that, always imagining things up and then bugging adults for their deranged thoughts. "I think that child needs less sugar," she began, staring at the child intently, "look at him! He's bugging his mother. Poor woman."

The ice began to crack even more-- an audible snap could be heard, but where did it come from? Elegancia looked around her, then at Adira. "Uh. What was that?"

"Of course we can eat, but we've really only been out for two hours now? Certainly not long enough to get you that tired Ele." Elegancia was not about to get pampered or doted upon by Adira, at the very least. Adira grinned at her companion, taking a seat on the edge of the bench next to her. Even though the weather had warmed up, the bench was still cold on the back of her jeans, and she figured the less contact with it the better.

"Hm? Child..." Roving eyes found the pestering child rather quickly, still tugging in a rather exaggerated fashion on his mothers coat sleeve. "They aren't all but, but then again everyone can be a bug." She winked at Elegancia before shifting around her bags. It was really quite a bother, and she wondered if a trip to the car might be a good idea before lunch. The particularly loud crack made her jump a bit.

"I'm not quite sure." The boy was not giving up and was currently arguing with his mother. 'Theres something in there mom! I saw it.' Confused, Adira followed his pointing to the fountain. "Elegancia...is the fountain cracking?" It was the most bizarre thing...little leaks of water had began to spring through the cracks in the ice, almost as if someone had left the water pump on and it was forcing water through the frozen exterior.

And then a burst of opaque water blasted through the frozen exterior, ice shards raining down on the on-looking crowd. It took a few seconds for Elegancia to notice, as her attention was focused on the annoying rugrat that had been pestering his poor mother. Really, kids these days! After said seconds of momentary distraction, Elegancia sprung into action. If she weren't dignified, she'd start yelling for people to get out of the area a.s.a.p.-- but she was a lady, and ladies didn't yell. Unfortunately, she knew what was coming. A monster, and a nasty one that she hadn't fought yet.

But one thing she could do was transform into a sailor-suited protector of justice and fight. Well, fight was a rather harsh-sounding word. Brawl? No, that didn't sound right either. Oh well, she'd think of something later. As an aquatic creature reared its ugly head out of the beautiful marble fountain, civilians began to scatter and make their way out of the scene. All the better, as Elegancia preferred to fight without any deranged paparazzi or having to contend with unnecessary casualties. Grabbing Adira by the arm and dashing behind a building, out of the public's eye, the auburn-haired girl gave her friend a nod of preparation.

It was time to save some people! In the cold!

Adira started at the sound of breaking ice, a hand raising up to shield her face from the falling shards, so clear that they almost looked like shattered glass. Letting out a bit of a yelp at the tug on her arm, she was reassured at the fact that it was Elegancia grabbing her, and not one of the many fleeing shop goers. Following the pull, the pair ended up behind a building and away from the prying eyes of those around them. The shouts from the courtyard still dimly ran across the brick exteriors, echoing in the space around them.

"Perseus Power, Make-Up!" With a flash of minty light, Adira no longer stood in the back alley. She was instead replaced with the Sailor suited senshi of illusion. Pulling up on her gloves, she looked over to her companion. "You ready to kick some butt? We can go get some food afterwards." The aspect of fighting a youma had become mundane enough for the duo that planning lunch afterwards was a normal occurring. There were two of them and one youma... what could go wrong?

Elegancia, too, called out her magical transforming incantation. Now a sailor-suited upholder of justice, Rosalind peered out of the alleyway imperiously. "It's sad. I was looking forward to my meal, and now I have to wait. You know I'm less than perky when I'm hungry. Ugh, let's get this over with." She dashed forward, right before the youma, staring it down with her emerald-like eyes. "You have two choices," she called out boisterously, for all to hear, "the first is you retreat back to whence you came from, leaving these poor people unharmed. The second? Well, the second is that Sailor Perseus and myself will blast you into pitiful little droplets of shame and ugly. Take your pick!" She crossed her arms, as if expectant of an intelligent response from the beast.

It obviously shrieked at her, its watery composition rippling as it roared in Rosalind and Perseus' direction. Humid and kind of smelly, the cry was not pleasant-- not in the least. "Alright, Perseus, that sounds like a Choice 2, wouldn't you say?" Theatrically spinning, Rosalind snapped her fingers and called out her attack-- Sterling Silver Volley. She then proceeded to announce "Everyone, take cover! Now!!" Silver coins began to rain down from the sky, and anyone who hadn't found cover for themselves was now being pummeled by berating coins. Well, they had started out strong on the offensive, but what to do now? The beast didn't seem bothered by her attack in the slightest, with the coins just smooshing into it. Maybe it would have been better if she made a wish on the fountain?

A wish of defeat.

"Choice 2 indeed." After hearing Rosalind try her silver volley, Perseus watched as the coins plunked into the water monster, leaving little ripples along the surface. After the volley had subsided, she was at a bit of a loss at what to do. How did you kiss water? How did you fight it, for that matter, when it could just bend around everything? As she was pondering the next best option, Perseus watched as a coin hit the youma straight on the forehead.

It shrieked in pain and shied away from the rest of the volley, cowing underneath the overhang of the fountain. "Bingo! Looks like it's head its its weak spot." There had to be some kind of binding point for the water to stay together, and in this case it was smack dab between watery, shadowy eyes.

"My turn!" Youma hunting had become a game for the two at this point. They hadn't run into anything together that they couldn't take on (though, they had been lucky not to run into any higher youma). Running forward, Perseus offered a booted kick to the youma's face. It sounded a bit like ripping paper, and the youma tore in half. With a triumphant yell, the girl turned back to her counterpart.

"We should go get-" Why was there still water around her feet? Perplexed, Perseus turned her eyes back behind her, where two slightly smaller youma were standing, very agitated. "Rosalind....I don't think that worked..."

Rosalind watched in fear as the watery youma pooled up into the shape of a serpentine creature, ready to coil around Perseus. She was speechless, and for whatever reason, couldn't move. If she weren't a lady, Rosalind would have responded with, "no s**t Perseus, move!!" But she had her manners to keep in check, so she just watched in fear. Right as the creature made it a point of striking, Rosalind dashed forward to get Perseus out of the line of fire (water?).

But it was too late. The youma had crashed upon the unsuspecting Perseus, dragging her under into its body, which seemed to have a current in itself. She watched in fear as Perseus struggled in the water, putting up a fight to get out. Man, was she ever the trooper-- but Rosalind needed to do something. Picking up a pot of flowers, the Soldier of Wealth tossed the entire batch at the youma.

Of course, it didn't do anything except swirl into the current, a flurry of flowers and dirt now encircling Perseus. Rosalind knew better than to dash into the creature recklessly, as she didn't want to end up like her partner but... What could she do?

For the first time in a very long time, the Solder of Wealth actually began to think of the possibility of death-- and she began to panic. But who could she ask for help? She was the help, and she couldn't provide it. She felt pitiful, watching in horror as Perseus continued to struggle, except with less gusto than before. Her only friend was beginning to run out of breath.

If only she had more power, or if only the youma wasn't so awful.

It felt like waves that crashed against you at the beach. Right when you would turn around to take a picture, or to wave to someone on the shore, and a big wave would come out of nowhere and slam into your back. This time, however, instead of falling forward Perseus was whipped backwards, in the gentle and deadly clutch of swirling water. Her eyes opened wide, the world beyond the water blurred as she clutched at her mouth and nose, desperate to keep air.

She wanted to scream out, she wanted to yell for Rosalind's help... she wanted to do something. But it didn't matter how much she thrashed for help, the cyclone of water was too much before. Thats when the black dots started to crowd her vision. She was panicked, and clutched her throat. If black dots were starting in her vision she was close to passing out. In the haze of the water, Perseus had no idea that the black dots were actually bits of soil swirling around in the tower of snarling water.

She'd heard about drowning before, but never had experienced anything close to it. Whatever it was, she wasn't giving up without a fight. The Sailor of Illusion clawed and kicked as hard as she could, the last desperate attempt of someone deprived of air. With a gasp, she broke the surface of the column, managing to take a few breaths before being sucked back down again.

Thankfully, or perhaps not so very thankfully, salvation was not far off. Salvation was a small girl about the age of eight, dressed as if she'd fallen out of the Victorian beginnings of the 20th century with eyes that didn't quite rest very long. There had been something tugging her across town and as she stared at the whirling vortex swallowing up one of her beloved senshi, Derpraline did something rather shocking.

She did something fast.

Running with her bare feet padding across the ground the small guardian's voice was clear and without hesitation. "Rosalind! Give me your hand!" Two of her small ones clasped around the one that was barely even raised in surprise and the glove was yanked off. Skin to skin was the best way to do this, one warm hand surrounded by two tinier ones.

Closing her eyes and pressing that hand against her forehead Derpraline glowed and the warmth grew. It spread and spread to engulf both of the senshi in a flare of light that was golden, shining, and it made you feel like you were on top of the world and could do anything. The youma shrank from it but refused to release its deathly grip on Perseus. If it were to go down it would be taking one of their own.

When it dimmed, things had changed.

Derp no longer looked capable, or wise, or smart. All she did was stare lovingly up at Super Sailor Rosalind and point. "Perseus. Trouble." And with a pop! a small kitten curled up at the toes of golden pumps and closed her eyes.
