Kaliska stroked her blue firelizard as she feed him, he crooned happily. There were a few other people at the feeding station a blue rider, a mature green and a young brown and his rider. The brown was a lovely deep color. Collovo peeped and she realized she had stopped feeding the little thing. "Yes, yes stuff your face." Kaliska smiled. She loved her flit. He was a lovely color with a bright happy personality which mean he loved to bury himself under her clothes so she had to look for him. Silly flit. If this was anything like having dragon she couldn't wait. She was lucky to get a flit so swiftly after arriving at High Reaches Weyr.

“I can kill my own beasts, Mine, you know that,” Dith grumbled as his rider heaved the lifeless wherry towards him. “It doesn’t taste as good if somebody else kills it,” he added, tearing the beast’s head off and gulping it down. Egh. It was still warm, but not hot with fresh life, blood swiftly flowing; it must be a couple of candlemarks dead. “Hey,” the lanky dragon addressed a nearby girl with a blue firelizard, “do I look capable of killing my own dinner to you? Everybody here treats me like a baby, and that’s nearly as annoying as my rider is. What’s your name, friend?” He hoped he didn’t startle her; people outside of Ghenza seemed to think that all dragons should be see, but only heard by their rider. This place was strange.
“You complain too much,” F’al said aloud; he knew that Dith had addressed the girl so he saw no reason to confuse matters by mindspeaking to his dragon. “And for your information,” he added, “this wherry was killed slightly less than a candlemark ago; I did check with the beastcrafter.” Soon he wouldn’t have to bother with this anymore; soon High Reaches would give Dith the go-ahead to fly when he liked, and to get his own dinner. Soon. He hoped it was very soon; he was tiring of the brown’s complaining. Equally, however, he was tiring of being coddled so; Ghenza’s harsh attitude had put them ahead of schedule, but that was not being acknowledged at the moment. All that hard work for nothing.

"Uh um yes, you do look like you could kill your own wherry, its just that if you injure yourself when you are young it would be bad for your bones because of your growth rate?" she looked at the rider helplessly, she wasn't scared she was just a little unprepared for the blunt manner of the brown. After a moment she decided she liked the dragon after the initial confusion of the moment. She tentatively held out her hand to the rider and introduced herself, "My name is Kaliska, nice to meet you, and you," she addressed both rider and brown. She was only tentative becasue this was the first person she had talked to, besides those of authority and neccesity.
Collovo cheeped and hid under her shirt putting on a little lizard show because she could tell he wasn't afraid either. He just liked to play hide and seek.

"Mmh," F'al swept his eyes up and down the girl dismissively, neglecting to take her proffered hand; "charmed." Just one more candidate (he assumed she was a candidate) in a sea of them. Dith would like him to say something nice, he could feel it, but he had no idea at all of what something nice and casually friendly would even be. "If you want to be friends, go ahead," he told his dragon, "but I have no desire to get to know her."
Dith had paused with his teeth sunk into the wherry as his rider spoke first to the girl, and then telepathically to him. He wished F'al would just try a bit harder with people sometime but... but he understood. The effort of being sociable was, to F'al, like the effort of sprinting up a mountain. "I'll talk to her and be nice," the brown told his lifemate privately, "and if she becomes my friend, maybe she'll be yours eventually too..." The only response he got was a very slight pursing of F'al's lips, but he had expected nothing more.
"Glad to meet you too Kaliska," Dith responded eventually, his mental tones warm enough (he hoped) to make up for the delay. "I used to kill my own food," he explained, "but that was back at Ghenza, where I hatched. Where did you ha- I mean, where were you born?" A good place to start with finding out about a new friend; right at the beginning!
