Chapter one.
Thunder booms in the distance. Lightening illuminates the small cabin surrounded by the dense forest of Farrel Valley. The wind howls through the trees as creatures skittered about trying to find a hold to wait out of the storm's rage. As another flash of lightening illuminates the sky as a lone shadow is visible stalking towards the cabin. In the far distance shouts of angered men and horse hooves can be heard. The thunder drowns out the noise of the shadows hunters. But as the thunder is silences a single gentle laughter can be heard from the cabins occupants. The shadow turns once towards the forest as if debating whether to face his hunters in the forest or to seek out sanctuary in the cabins warmth. The shadow looks once towards his bleeding chest and knows he cannot out run his pursuers and even if he managed it the cold of the storm would no doubt claim his life.
With a single sigh of regret at possible endangering the residents of the cabin, the shadow moves to the door to the cabin. With the last of his strength the figure knocks at the door and collapses on the cabins steps. Inside a single woman is baking bread as she giggles at the antics of her pet fox. The little golden fox fitters about rolling in split flour and bumping against the woman's legs when ever possible. Both the woman and fox freeze as a knock then thunk are heard. Startled the woman waits a few moments to see weather or not more knocking will come. When no more noise greets her ears she turns to her little pet.
"What should we do Treasure?" The woman asks the little fox. "Should we answer the door or should we pretend we did not hear."
The fox sniffs at the air and whines at the woman. The little fox moves slowly towards the door and only pauses a moment when he realizes his master was not following. He turns to the woman and whines once more. The woman nods her head and moves to join the fox at the kitchen door. The quickly walk out of the kitchen and into the hall that leads to the front door. They stop and pause for only a moment as the woman grabs a sword hanging on the wall near the door. She quickly unsheathe the sword and slowly opens the door.
A boom of thunder nearly startles the woman into dropping the swords. The boom also works to rouse the shadow from his pain induced unconsciousness. As he groans and turns his head up to stare at the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes upon his hood slips from his head and reveals his shocking silver hair and elven ears. A slight gasp escapes the woman's lips but she is quick to kneel down and assist the injured man into her home. Once they are both through the door the fox pushes the door closed with his snout. The woman drops the sword on the floor and helps the silver haired man into the cabins living quarters. She places him gently on the bed.
"Do not move." She orders. "I will fetch bandages so we may care for your wounds."
"Wait." The silver haired man whispers roughly. "You know what I am. Will you send for the Royal Guard?"
