 It had snowed several days ago and although the snow was still thick on the ground, it was still littered with foot and hoof prints left by all the various visitors. Most of these were his own, but here and there he found small prints from usidas or little snow birds who had passed through. He took a while to examine these, dawdling despite the cold.
He was on his way down to the river for a drink. Already though the snow was balling up on his legs and he would still have to break through the ice for his freezing drink. Winter was so beautiful. Why did it need to be so frustrating too?

 Atiya was loving the winter. The snow was so fun to bound through, and the snow drifts were fun to jump over. It wasn't cold as long as you were running around and enjoying yourself! The blood pumping through your veins would keep you warm. She was a testiment to that, as she was sweating by the time she came to the river.
Her eyes lit up when she saw the river's bank. Maybe she could take a nice long drink from it! She knew she could always eat snow, but that just wasn't the same. So she bounded over to the river, and was quite disappointed to see it was frozen. "Aw~"

Eventually he made it down to the river. It was solid, as he thought it would be, and he frowned. Breaking the ice meant his legs would get wet and the ice would freeze to the hairs. But eating snow wasn't an option. A couple of temporarily frosted legs was better then the dehydration the snow offered.
He looked back and forth down the river, looking for a thin point. That he didn't spot, but he did spot an young mare. He blinked once, wondering what she was doing here. Just passing through? Looking for water maybe? Curious he headed down the bank toward her.

She was disappointed, but it was okay. She could just munch some snow, and that'd be okay until she found a river that wasn't so frozen. After all, snow was just frozen water, right?
She turned to go. She didn't have a destination in mind, but that was okay. She'd come across something fun, she was sure of it. And apparently it wouldn't take her that long to find it anyway! There was a paint stallion heading towards her.
"Hi!" she called, shaking her butt happily. Maybe they could play.

"Hi," he murmured in return. She seemed to be quite the fireball. It had been a while now since he'd been that energetic. He wasn't sure he was jealous though.
"My name is Duer," and I live here, "are you looking for something?" He really hoped she just wanted some water. It wouldn't be out of his way to help her with that one at all.

"Oh, not really," she said, the smile still on her face. She smiled with all her features, not just her mouth. "I was just playing and came across the river. I thought it'd be nice to take a drink, but it's frozen so..."
She shrugged, stepping closer to him to study him better, curious. "I'll just eat some snow. That's good enough for now!"
