Swiftwind had slipped out from the den he shared with his mate well before the sun rose this morning. The pack was steadily growing and he wanted to talk to MoonWatcher before the night guard finished his duties for the night. The dark blue wolf had been relatively easy to find, as he generally stuck to the same patrolling route each night unless there was some sort of disturbance. The Alpha spent a good amount of time talking to MoonWatcher as the male completed the last leg of his night patrol. There had not been much outsider activity lately, save for that purple and black female that had joined not long ago.

As the sun began to peak over the horizon signaling the beginning of a new day Swiftwind allowed MoonWatcher to return to his den, while the Alpha stayed out to do some thinking. Finding a nice large rock to lay upon Swiftwind thought about all the recent things that had happened. The most significant of those were his father and mother stepping down from the Alpha position and handing control of the pack over to him and his mate Starlite. He had always known that day would come and was so happy to finally see to his destined role. It was a shame his brother had forsaken the pack, but he had never accepted the fact that Swiftwind would be Alpha and not him. Giving his head a shake the armor clad male reminded himself it was best not to think of his wayward brother.

Giving his front legs a stretch Swiftwind watched as the sun slowly rose along the long trucks of the trees that dotted these lands, his lands. Soon he would return to the den and spend some time with Starlite before seeing to various duties, but for now he was content to just lay here and relax, he didn't get to relax much these days anyways.

User ImageStarlite was accustomed to Swift Winds early morning wanderings - it wasn't uncommon for him to get up early so that he might speak with the night guards, or sometimes she assumed merely to think things over. He had been doing so more often then normal lately however and Starlite was fairly certain this unease had been cause by their recent acquirement of the pack.

She wasn't nearly as worried about it as he seemed to be - she was sure that he would not only be a fine and just leader but that he would help the pack to flourish and she would do the same...still sometimes a bit of extra support was needed and so when she awoke that morning to find him gone Starlite decided to go off and search for him. It wasn't so very hard to track him down, she ran across MoonWatcher on her way and a brief conversation led her to the area Swiftwind was now.

Hopping up beside her mate on the large rock she sat down beside him , lowering her head to nudge him lovingly even though the action caused her hair to fall into her face in a most annoying fashion "Thinking again love?" She asked him

The soft sound of approaching paws made his ears swivel slightly but he knew it was Starlite and as such made no action to investigate who was coming to see him. Returning her nuzzle Swiftwind licked her cheek and nodded. "You know me too well my dear." And indeed she did, Starlite always knew if something was bothering him, or what he may be thinking at times. That close connection had formed when they first met many moons ago, and while others may not believe in love at first sight Swiftwind and Starlite were proof that such a thing did exist.

"It's nothing to worry about." He assured her. "Just still trying to get used to all the new duties that we must attend to." Even though his parents had spent the majority of his life training him in everything he would need to know one day he still felt nervous at times about the whole thing. But what wolf wouldn't? Running a pack was a huge responsibility. There were a few other minor things on his mind but he chose not to bring them up at this time, they were things for the future after all.

"It is allot to take in" She agreed and while the transfer of power hadn't been either unexpected or quick when you though about it..being told that you'd one day run the pack and being taught the basics of doing so was still a far cry from actually doing it for real. It would take both of them some time to get used to it.

"But you have been well prepared and the pack is in good order" She assured him "You simply have to trust in what you've been taught" She concluded and the pack should be thankful they had gotten Swiftwind as a leader she mentally added, the mountain forbid that his brother had gained power...all would be run into ruin by that thug of a wolf. "Alistair and the Twins haven't voiced any concerns, and surely they would have if they were worried about the packs future" She reminded him of the experienced wolves he had at his calling still.

Swiftwind nodded in agreement, his mane like hair bobbed slightly. She was right, as usual, and he was grateful for that. Starlite always knew the right thing to say to ease him mind, not that he was terribly worried about things but knowing that his mate was here by his side to endure everything with him that made it alright. "I know, and you're right. You know me I think too much at times." He let out a bit of a chuckle. "If Alistair had any doubts in my leadership skills he would have stepped in and prevented my parents from passing the pack to me." That wasn't entirely true of course, but the head guard did have a good sense about him.

"And how have you been adjusting?" He asked her, giving her a loving nudge. If he felt a bit nervous about leading the pack then surely she did too even if she wasn't showing it. Plus Starlite had not been raised here like he had, she had come to live here after he met her allowing their love to blossom with each day. He would be forever thankful that he had decided to wander from the pack that day, for if that had not happened then he never would have met the lovely female that sat beside him now.

"Or at least he would have raised a fuss and demanded more time for your training" She agreed "But as he accepted the transfer without a word then I would only assume that he think your ready" Starlite told him reassuringly - sure she hadn't grown up with the armored wolf but he liked to think she'd come to know him well enough in her time here to grasp at least that much of his basic personality.

"I think it is easier for me" She admitted as he asked how she was adjusting "Since I didn't grow up here in the pack they all expect me to make mistakes once in a while" She told him with a gentle laugh though what she said was quite true..since she lacked the years and years of formal training he had received since birth then the rest of the pack was far more willing to forgive and forget any missteps she might take along the way.

"Perhaps he has just grown tired of training me." Swiftwind said jokingly, after all Alistair had been training him since puphood so was a very, very small possibility. Plus he had to deal with those two numbskulls Ice and Cloud now, that made him shake his head slightly, those two never took anything serious and Swiftwind knew it irked the head guard greatly. Perhaps one day they would settled down, stop thinking of everything as a joke and finally earn their place in the pack.

His head nodded slightly, yes he could see how the transition might be easier for her, she had not been in the pack for as long as he had. And honestly that was a good thing, it meant she hadn't had to endure his brothers cruelty. It was a real mystery how his brother had turned out so utterly different from him even though they were trained side by side. A smile danced across his maw as he looked playfully at Starlite. "Well if they expect you to make mistakes, then maybe you can make some of my mistakes for me. That way I won't have to hear it from Alistair about how much of a failure I am and the others will overlook it because you are new."

Brown eyes watched his mate closely as the gold an red rays of the sun danced across her white hide. Ah she was so beautiful. His gaze fell upon the necklace that had been given to her not too long after joining the pack. Leaning forward he bumped it gently with his muzzle before looking up at her. "I still remember the day you earned this as if it had happened only yesterday."

Starlite regarded her mate with a look of faked woe "You are a rather troublesome creature to train. Just look how long it's taken me to turn you into a proper mate" She lamented with a straight face before shaking her head and intoning in a serious and she thought rather good impression of their head guards "Mistakes are how we learn! If you never experience the consequences of an ill thought decision then you'll never learn the value of thinking things through!"

She smiled as he indicated the necklace, it had not been easy to earn it - but then things such as that should not be and she knew she would always remember the moment it had been draped over her head..they way it had made her feel as though she belonged, her pride at having earning it to begin with...and all of that she knew was precisely the point of the ceremony and the challenges. It built bonds and ties to the pride, gave members something to strive for, to earn and be proud of. It was a good tradition and it gave her no small amount of thrill to know that she would be draping similar jewelery over the heads of young females for as long as she was alpha with Swiftwind. "Me too..And I think I always shall. It's too bad i did not know you when you earned your Armour..surely that would have been something to see" She remarked wistfully.

Swiftwind flashed his mate a big goofy smile. "I think you rather enjoyed the challenge of making me proper mate material. I know I enjoyed it." He told her as he rubbed his nose along her sleek neck. Chuckling at her impression of the head guard Swiftwind had to admit it was pretty bang on, not just the serious look and tone she used but the words as well. He had heard something very similar to that a time or two when he was younger and had been quick to learn that mistakes made you a better wolf as long as you could learn from them. And that was something that those two clowns Ice and Cloud hadn't learned yet, though hopefully they would sooner rather than later, it was time for those two to settled down a bit.

Nodding his head slightly Swiftwind spoke again. "That was quite some time ago though, long before I ever met you." He had had his armor for a few seasons before coming across Starlite that fateful day. And indeed he still remembered the day he had been granted it, his brother had earned his armor that day too though had forsaken it later when he turned his back on the pack. But Swiftwind had taken great pride in his new armor and name, ensuring it always stayed clean. It was funny though at times how his mother still called him by his birth name, he was certain she did it just to throw him off. It made him think for a moment that perhaps one day he and Starlite would be giving honor names to other pack members, perhaps to even their own children one day. His eyes looked upon his mate, twinkling with happiness, he would have said something about it but kept silent on that subject for the moment. "Besides you probably would have laughed while they struggled to put my faceplate on." Oh sure the chest guard slipped over his head quite easily, but the face plate was another story, it was tight and hard to fit on.

"Well I'm not complaining too much" She told him with a smile "After all you turned out pretty well..still a few things we can improve though" She teased him, placing a paw on his shoulder and giving him a playful shove. Really they could only get away with behavior like this when they were alone - she didn't want to think about how the rest o the pack would take to them acting like goofballs in front of them. But that just made this alone time even more special.

"Funny how time flies by isn't it?" It was weir to think that while Swiftwind was growing up and being groomed to take over the pack someday..taking honor challenges, earning his name and armor..she was being towed around by her parents whose idea on rules boiled down to one simple fact..there were no rules... the two of them had certainly had two very different upbringings. "Probably" She agreed with a laugh 'An imagine the stern look I would have got for doing such a thing too"

"More improvements? Well I hate to break it to you dear but you can't improve this anymore that you already have." He sat up in a proud pose. "I'm perfect." At her playful shove Swiftwind let himself roll off of the rock, landing on the ground below. Giving his body a shake he slowly lifted his head so that he peered over the edge of the rock at her and suddenly got another goofy smile on his face. Getting to his paws Swiftwind padded about the rock, looping it in a wide circle. When he got to the side where she was sitting his paws slowed down to a walk as he looked upon his beautiful mate.

He continued to circle about until he was in front of her, and brought himself to a stop, looking at her and then glancing about. Tail flicked and then he pranced up to the rock she was perched on. "Well hello there. What's a pretty thing like you doing out here alone?" Lifting his front paws he placed them on the rock, so that he could look into her eyes. "Say, maybe you could help me out. I seem to have lost the love of my life and it just pains me to no end not knowing where she could be." This was a game they played quite often when they were alone, and it had all begun when they started to travel together before he returned to the pack with her at his side.

Starlite rolled her eyes slightly as his incredibly vain response and snorted slightly at the thought, couldn't let his ego get too big even if she did agree with his statements. She would be hard pressed to find someone as perfect for her as Swiftwind was.

Eyeing him as he walked around her Starlite gave him an astonished look when he spoke, as though she had never seen him before in her life "Oh my!Where did you come from" She asked him in a shocked voice "And what will this love of your life think you running about calling other girls pretty? I certainly haven't seen anyone around"

"Well I came from over there." He pointed with his muzzle off to the left. "And I am sure she will not mind, after all giving compliments to others is the polite thing to do." And in truth it was, just because a male called a female pretty didn't mean he was trying to bed her in a night of lust, well some wolves did that, but certainly not him. His love was for Starlite and Starlite alone.

He looked about thoughtfully. "Well last time I saw her she was sitting here on this very rock. I do so terribly miss her. You sure you haven't seen anyone else around?" As his eyes settled back on Starlite he couldn't help but smile a bit, but he tried his best to keep it to a minimum right now as they played out this little joke.

Starlite looked over to the left "Ah well that is interesting..I seem to recall coming from that direction myself!" she exclaimed and merely nodded at his explanation about compliments afterwards as she turned back to look at him.

'I'm afraid not" She told him in mock sadness "And I've been sitting on this rock for a very long time myself searching for my own long lost love" she told him with a soft sigh of pretend sorrow 'I just don't know how I'll go one without him..." She further lamented "I suppose I shall have to go and throw myself off a cliff or something"

Swiftwind gave her a solemn look when she mentioned that she too was searching for her own lost love. "Well we are both in quite a conundrum them. I can't find my love and you can't find yours." He took a moment to pause, to keep himself from smiling before continuing. "Strange don't you think, that we both came from the same direction and that my lost love was last seen here where you are sitting now, and you have been here for quite some time waiting for your lost love. Why it's as if..." Head tipped to the side a bit as he looked at her, then took a step back."

"Wait a moment. You look an awful lot like my dear Starlite, why you have the same lovely rainbow hair as her, your star marking is the same and..." He stepped forward to take a closer look at her necklace. "why even your necklace looks the same as hers." Placing his front paws back on the rock he leaned in nice and close, smile crossing his maw. "Perhaps you are my lost love." And he gave her a loving lick on the cheek.
