The foals had been from there basket for several weeks now. Scythe had watched them as they froliced within the herd under the watchful eyes of others. They had looks of the family, but a little...off. Never the less, he loved them all. The air was a bit chill, and he had taken to the ground so that he could sun and warm his coat. He listened to the sound of small hooves running around him, he couldn't keep himself from laughing softly. He remembered when all of his children were that age. They had been such a hand full.

One of the frolicking foals peeled away from the group as he noticed the presence of Scythe, the herd's brave protector. He also happened to be Padmaraja's great grandfather, and where he inherited his twisting horns. Horns he had originally hated, due to the reaction they had on his mother, along with his eyes.. Their mother's interactions with them, how she treated them. He didn't exactly feel loved by her. In time though he had begun to realize that the horns were a point of pride, not something to be ashamed of, and that his family, his herd, loved him. He would take what love he could get, and he would be there for his brother and sister where their mother was not. He wanted them happy, safe, and it was the reason he had slipped away from them to trot over to his grandfather. Bumping his shoulder along the big stallion's leg in greeting. Who better to teach him to be strong then the one trusted to protect their entire herd?

"Padma!" his voice loud and boisturous. He smiled over to the foal that had come to visit. "Working hard today I see?" she smiled and referred to the playing that he and his siblings had been doing. He couldn't help but to smile each and every time he saw the young colt. Out of all of the family, he was the only to carry on the horns that Scythe bared himself...along with a scaled like patterning splashed over some of his body.
"What curiousities have you found to tell me of?" Scythe always like to inquire of adventures that the children had been on. He found that it gave them a sense of accomplishment and duty.

For a brief moment the horned colt forgot his purpose as she wound himself about his grandfather's legs. Prancing about the larger stallion as he spoke. A flip of his head beside one long braid twitched it up and over the little male's shoulders, as he slipped aorund to come to a stop at Scythe's side. "Nothing today, Grandfather." Tiny shoulders rolled in a half shrug, the braid slipping a little. "I actually had a question." He paused, slitted gaze dipping to the ground then back up. "Well, more of a request, I guess."
Bright hooves packed the ground beneath them as he fidgeted slightly. it wasn't that he was afraid of his grandfather, impressive and imposing as he may appear. In fact, it was that frightful exterior and loving nature that made Padmarajaj look up to and admire him. No, what gave him pause was the nature of the request. He didn't want to impose. "I want to be strong, Grandfather. I want to have the strength and skill to keep Shiva and Phala safe." Their mother.. He loved her, but he wasn't sure if the mare would give her life to protect them. No.. He was nearly certain she wouldn't.
If Bari could not give them love and safety, then Padma would. He would fill that void left by their troubled mother, and he would care for his brother and sister.

His eyes followed the small frame as hit moved here and there, his ears perking at the mention of a request. He was sometimes surprised by the things that came out of young one's mouths, but he could tell by the posture and pause of Padma that he felt this was serious.
"That is a very noble request, Padma." he lowered his head to nibble gently on his grandson's mane for a moment. "It will take training and hard work, but if you are wiling, I'm sure you will make a great protector...Not only for your siblings, but also this herd should you choose too," he offered and wide smile to the young colt. "Tell me, what is it you want to learn?" his voice was calm and reassuring. He would help any of his family become what they wanted to be if he could. Luckily, the skills of defense and protection were his specialty.

The nibble to his mane made him smile, a quick flicker, there and gone as she pressed himself against the larger male's leg. He had no father that he knew, but Scythe seemed to have filled that roll for the ebony and rose colt. He looked up to him rather adoringly. Enjoyed spending time with him. When mentioned that he might one day be a grand protector to the heard his head lifted, slitted eyes widening gently. "Do you really think so?" The idea had never occurred to him before, but he was young. The position did sound appealing though. He could protect his family, his herd. Keep not just his siblings safe, but everyone he cared for.
Stilling his nervous dance, the foal looked up at the protector unflinching. Perhaps it was silly, a small foal speaking of such things, but to him it was serious. "I want to learn how to fight, to defend." Pink lips pursed thoughtfully. "Everything I would need to know to keep them safe and cared for."

Scythe nodded his head, a broad smile on his face. "Training begins early in life, Padma. Your cousin in Miakoda has just began his training as well. Crown. Have you met him yet? He is not much older than you." he bobbed his head slightly.
"I will inform Haya of your decision if you are sure?" he knew that he little colt would not change his mind, but he thought it best that he ask one last time. "Training will not be easy," he wanted to be honest with the foal. Training to become a protector was easily one of the most physically draining positions of any herd.

Dark ears trained forward as he listened intently to his grandfather, though he gave a gentle shake of his head as the mention of his cousin. "No, I have not." If he had more family, he would certainly like to meet them, but that was a plan for another day. He was determined to learn, and little would have distracted him away from his chosen path.
He was sure, most definitely. He nodded even as he spoke his confirmation. "Yes Grandfather, I'm sure." His siblings need him. They needed love and safety. "I'm ready to do whatever it takes to become strong like you and Haya." He stood a little straighter, small chest puffed.

He offered a kind laugh, nosing his grandson gently in the puffed out chest. "You are well on your way, Padma. We will tell Haya and begin your training shortly." he nodded. "I am proud that you want to take care of your siblings. We all need someone to stand next to us at times."

The nose to his chest made him cough, breathing out suddenly as she stumbled, but he was smiling when he turned his head back up to the larger male. "Someone needs to keep them safe, and I want that someone to me." The smile faltered, but only a little. "When will we go find Haya?" He was perhaps a little eager, evident by his poorly masked impatience and the shuffling of bright hooves.

He continued to smile at the small foal, he was proud that he had such great intentions at such a young age. He lifted his head a bit higher than normal, a proud stance, easy for any to notice.
'We will go first light in the morning," he looked down to Padma, 'You and I will make a day of it, okay?" he nickered lightly. He enjoyed being able to spend time with all of his young family members.
