The route between Wind and Rain is a unique one in that it can be both harsh and dry, yet pleasant and beautiful. The Wind Country's deserts spread out to the outskirts of the Rain Country, only to be over taken by Rain Country's lush forest due to its constant showers. Due to the great Shinobi wars and the Rain Village's constant razing the once rich green life that was the outskirts of Rain were burned to the ground, however in recent years the vegetation has started to sprout back up raising morale and hopes that the Country's borders will once again serve as a relief for travelers.

The road ahead was as dry as the desert of the sand, and Michio knew he still had a hell of a trek ahead of him. Thankfully, there was no one tailing him for now. But he was sure that wouldn't be the case in a few hours. Word was bound to get out and judging from what he knew about criminals, which wasn't much, he assumed that at least the ANBU of Sand would be coming for his a**.

'All the more reason to get to Rain as soon as possible.' he told himself as he trekked on. Noting that there was no one on the road, he ducked behind a series of cacti and desert brush to change his appearance once again. This time, he shifted to appear as a merchant with a pack on his back.

Once the transformation was complete, he decided that sticking to the road would be a terrible idea. If Roku was coming for him, it would only be a matter of time before he caught up to a road-bound Michio. And then the fight would be on again.

He was already a traitor. He didn't need to add murder to that title as well. And so, Michio hurried off with an intensified haste, hoping to reach the Village Hidden in the Rain before anyone could come for his head.

As Michio ran, sand gave way to dirt, which then gave way to mud. It was not long before he was trudging through thick mud that caused every step to sink up to his knees. He, as a shinobi, could use his chakra to walk on water and thus he could have just ran across the water soaked ground as if it were water itself, but he had an appearance to keep up. He was dressed as a non-shinobi. How would it look to someone who thought he was a normal person if they saw him running on the surface of deep mud? They'd know right away, and Michio couldn't have that. So he took it step by step, each movement making a sick squelching sound as he pulled his foot from the hole against the suction power of the thick dirt.

“s**t....”
he muttered, “This is the goddamn worst!” He cursed Roku's name, cursed the Kazekage. If they'd have just let well enough alone, he wouldn't be in this damn situation. He hadn't even intended to team up with the enemy of the Sand. The man had broken him out of prison and hadn't given him any information to his allegiances. It wasn't like he'd walked up to Michio and said 'Hi, I'm one of the enemies of your home. Let's team up and cause you to be a traitor to your own people!' Michio would have just stayed in jail if Kalam would have done that. But he'd been secretive, so Michio felt bound to repay his kindness.

As Michio thought and fought the mud, something moved to his right and before he knew it, a large form rose from the mud and struck out at him. “Oh GOD DAMMIT!!!” he shouted as he leaped backward. The attack missed, but he landed on his back in the mud and sank a few inches. Michio struggled to his feet and gave up the pretenses. Maintaining the transformation, he then began to walk on the watery surface of the mud and got a good look at what had attacked him.

It was a large snake, at least seventeen feet in length and about five feet in width with a dark gray coloration that was only viewable through holes in the mud that coated the large serpent. Michio growled and stared it down, then dashed to the left, running in the direction of the Rain Country border. The serpent followed, it's sleek body gliding across the surface of the mud with ease, quickly outpacing even Michio, who was pumping his chakra infused blood through his legs.

'It's gonna eat me!' he said as the snake reared it's head and slammed forward, mouth wide open as it went to bite for Michio's body. 'NO! My story will not end here!' he thought, turning and sliding to a stop. As he slid, his left hand was stretched outwards and a tendril of blood stretched from his hand. As if using a water style jutsu was all the catalyst that was needed, a heavy downpour sprang up out of nowhere with drops of water so thick and fast that it was as if a solid sheet of water were constantly pushing down. It blinded the serpent and Michio took advantage of the momentary loss of aim, leaping out of the way and coming to a roll several feet away before running off again.

Being that he was far from the road, he was sure no one had seen him use his blood technique, so he felt it would be safe to keep running atop of the mud. The serpent that had missed had either decided that Michio was more work than it wanted or that he had gotten too far away before it recovered from the strike. Either way, it had given up the chase and Michio was once again on his way.

“Now then, if nothing else gets in my way, I think I'll be fine.” he muttered, finally reaching the border entry to Rain Country.

It was some time before Shinken's crow returned. By that time the sand had begun to turn into mud. It appeared that he was surrounded by storms. It did not slip by him that this was certainly a bad omen. Still in the distance he could see trees and he knew he was getting closer to his objective. Shinken raised up his arm and allowed the crow to land. It squawked three times confirming that it had delivered the bounty to the bounty office. Shinken gave it a nod and then released it from its summoning Jutsu.

"Well looks like I've got a long hard journey ahead of me. Someday this ninja world will be different. I'll change it. I have to." Shinken thought to himself as he pulled one leg up out of the mud. Even though this was supposed to be a road the conditions were still treacherous. Having left several footprints Shinken decided that it would be best to use the water walking Jutsu to avoid leaving anymore tracks. He knew that the sand ninja would come for him and he wasn't ready for that yet. No when he was ready he would confront them in their own territory. He would force his village to submit. To change their ways. For now however he simply had to press onward.

As he continued to walk Shinken decided that perhaps it would be best if he deserted the road. In so doing he would slow himself down, but he would be much harder to track. The scent village probably knew where he was going and that didn't help his odds of survival. He realized that he didn't know where he was going to go after all of this was over. After he killed Michio he didn't have a place to go. He would simply be wandering as a rogue ninja. It was a dangerous life Shinken had just chosen to lead and he knew that. He would have to find allies. There was always safety in numbers, and he knew he would be a welcome addition to most teams. He had an incredible amount of power and he knew it. Though with the bounty on his head it would always be a risky thing to join forces with someone. If they really wanted that money there was nothing stopping them from stabbing him in the back. He would just have to be careful of who he chose as his friends from now on. Something he wished he had done with Michio.

His anger still burned white-hot inside of him. Shinken's still couldn't believe he had been so foolish and trusting. That was a mistake he wouldn't make again. His trust would have to be earned now, though his cooperation not so much. A wandering rogue ninja like him didn't have many options, and couldn't afford to be picky. It was a few more hours before Shinken reached the forest. The trees were not as large as he would've expected with such huge downpours of rain. Still they provided welcome cover, and a place for him to rest.

The moon hung high in the middle of the sky now. Shinken knew that he was going to need to sleep if he was going to fight Michio. He couldn't subsist on willpower alone no matter how much he wanted to. So the young boy began to set up camp. He found a hollow underneath an old fallen tree and began to get to work making a small fire. It was very difficult considering how wet all the material was, but with the use of a little fire chakra Shinken was able to get a small fire going. He warmed his hands as the rain pelted down against his body. When he had feeling in his hands again the young Uchiha began to build a shelter from the rain. He did his best to make it look like a natural formation using the falling tree as the main support structure, and shifting overgrowth on top of it to stop the rain. When he was satisfied with the structure Shinken crawled into the hollow, letting the heat from the fire keep him warm, and went to sleep.

The young ninja's dreams were highly unpleasant. They were filled with violence pain and loss. When he awoke four hours later his body ached from travelling, and he still felt groggy. These were things he knew would leave him once he got up and began to move around. So we did just that he got up hid the evidence of his fire, returned the overgrowth to its natural -looking state, and began his journey a new.

As he got deeper into the forest Shinken noticed that there were tracks where there should not have been. This was far off the beaten path. There are only a few reasons why someone would be out here this far away from the road. They were hiding, they were running, or they were hunting. Any of those might lead to a clue as to Michio's whereabouts so Shinken followed them.

Hanako Kaguya

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Hanako Kaguya had arranged for travel to transport herself and her comrades through Rain Country and into Wind Country. It was all on taking Sai's advice to avoid Fire Country and move Kaito's body through a generally neutral route on the way back to the Mist Village. It was such a pain to even socialize with the people of the small village in Rain Country, who seemed all the more happy to be rid of the rest of the ninja who nearly obliterated their home with their skirmish. "I hate people...", the white haired kunoichi muttered to herself as she relaxed under the cover of the caravan's cargo hold. Arina would be with her and the body of their fallen friend. "I'm just going to be glad to get home.", she said with a sight as Hanako looked up to the roof of their transport. Her eyes closed as she drifted off for a nap as the wheels bumped along the road toward the land of dust and deserts. There were fundamental changes going on in Hanako's genetic structure that required her to rest and adjust to.

Hanako felt the strain of her body adjusting to Kaito's Akimichi cells perma-bonding and replicating inside her bone marrow. The stim cells took to the matter and soon the hunger hit her. She was the type who would generally eat only a little bit, and be sated. The game had changed now, and she felt like a snack would do her some good. "I don't suppose they will mind.", she muttered with a shrug as she peaked in a crate of apples they were riding with, and she snagged a couple, helping herself to the healthy snack and putting some calories into her system as she did. Eating had never really felt as good to her as it did in this instance. Was this why Kaito was such a glutton? His cells that had taken residence inside of her body and blessed Hanako with a portion of his bloodline skills seemed to come with a habit of increasing her appetite and slowing her metabolic rate. "I don't want to put on a bunch of weight, but goodness, two more could not hurt.", she mumbled. Though, before she could raid the apple crate again, the fatigue of the soldier pills knocked her right out.

As she slept in the back of the caravan, Hanako felt discomfort in her core, the bones were strengthening, and adjusting in her body as she rested. It was like growing pains, but growing pains if one had bones that could punch through metal structures and not break. It was during these periods of growth that Kaguya were noted for being particularly violent, and Hanako was no exception to the rule. It was just simple luck that she was too tired to move much during the ride into Wind Country. If there was a divine force at work in the world, guiding fate, it was probably chuckling to itself at how circumstance kept the journey peaceful. The peace was the most maddening part of everything, as Hanako wanted nothing more than to gouge Sai's eyeballs out and feast upon them in front of Sorain and his bug loving buddy. They would all pay for what happened to Kaito, if not by her hand, by somebody else's. It was all a matter of time in the life of a shinobi, but as for how long it took for one's past to finally catch up to them, was like playing the lottery. The white haired girl just hoped that Sai's luck would run out sooner preferable to later.

'Are we there yet?', Hanako wondered to herself as the days went on in the ride to Wind Country, toward a port town were the goods would be delivered along with herself, Arina, and Kaito's body. 'We can't be that far out, and I want to be on a ship for Water Country this time yesterday.', she continued to grumble internally via impetuous thought. Hanako was never one for just enjoying waiting around or for being lazy. It was not a trait that she planned to ever be well known for either, though if she were going to keep using Soldier Pills, she made a note to herself that she would need to get used to the fatigue and learn how to adjust and deal with the results and after effects. The boost and rush they provided was worth the lethargy felt after, that much was certain.

After a few more hours...The caravan had finally arrived in it's destination, and now Hanako, Arina, and the corpse of their former friend had only to wait for the ship to load and be ready to set sail back for their homeland. There, she would have to present Kaito's body for burial, and accept the shame for letting a team-mate die in the line of duty. It was a burden she was willing to bare for the sake of the future and never allowing that mistake to happen again.
