Trees, more trees and brush, all covered in icicles and snow. He looked almost blind through his shaggy mane with it's even shaggier forelock. Still he managed to find his way into a small pasture looking area and looked around, his dark grey and white coat patterns stuck out like a sore hoof against the white of winter.

Flight, it was one of the few things that could make her happy, but in the bitter cold that had sprung up in recent months...even this small pleasure was slighted. The mare descended with a fair amount of grace, her form and frame elegant looking, but strong, her wings shook to get rid of the few bits of water that had turned to ice on her feathers. Her stark contrast to the white world around her, made her look as though she was a dark shadow with blood on her body, the bright red mane and tail braided, yet still so long they dragged upon the ground. Her ears twitched listening for noises, yellow pupils with an eerie glow were stark against her face. The whites of her eyes, were black as was most of her body, she was surely some...strange creature, at least that's what was always thought about her.

He'd heard the flap of wings in the distance but hadn't turned his head to see till they'd stopped. Initially he'd been looking tot he sky for thread. His stalky build was one that would have looked cumbersome and even goofy but he did know how to throw his weight around when the time came that he needed to. In the distance though, he was a dark and red female. Looking closely, he thought to just walk away and leave the mare to herself but he couldn't help but to nicker a small greeting.

Her head turned slowly surveying where the greeting had come from. She bit back the immediate laughter that wanted to burst from her mouth. She'd seen a few odd things, but this took the proverbial cake. It was a stallion who looked ridiculously poofy, possibly over weight...and had a mane that hung down over his eyes like a dog she'd seen before. It was the sight of him that made her want to cackle, however it was cold, and laughter would not assist in her need of keeping warm. Gracefully she nodded her head to him in greeting, no need to say anything as he had simply made noise at her. She could keep the elegant facade up, but should he make her talk...well then it would be completely blown.

He saw the nod and made his way over, head bobbing in a goofy manner that caused his forelock to flop about ever so slightly giving the view of his deep green eyes as he walked. His tail was short, fluffy looking and he'd taken to wagging it like a deer or dog might. he'd been a tail wager for as long as he could remember, something that just seemed to expand his goofy dimenur. His Clydesdale build and bulk made him look tubby but when push came to shove, that stocky build was all muscle, lean and in it's prime.

She stifled the laughter again. This stallion really was just too much for her to keep herself from rolling in the snow in gales of laughter, however, her self control would not let her make a fool of herself in front of someone she didn't know. She smiled, in what would have been a warm manner, if not for the glowing yellow eyes, and slightly...pointed teeth in her mouth. She flicked her wings and bowed her head, not daring to speak, for fear of swallowing her tongue to keep from embarrassing herself with laughter.

It wasn't long before he was standing before her, an even goofier smile painted on his goofy face. "Ello." He chimed with a gruff voice as though fur had sound and his voice were thick and warm with it. "Lovely day isn't it? If only a bit chilly." He looked all around them noting that though it was a bit chilly it was a rather lovely day.

Her head stayed down a little longer and she heard the voice, it was a nice voice, but one could tell it was rather excited...and almost too much like one would assume a dog would have. How in the hell was she going to keep a straight face about this kind of thing? Looking back up at him through her bangs she nodded, again not trusting her speech. If she kept her mouth shut she could be the shy demure female, and not be looked down on. That would work...right?

Finally he shook he mane from his face. "I'm Shilo." He flashed another smile though this one seemed less doofy with his green eyes visible. That soon went away though, his forelock fell back into place and his eyes were once more hidden from view.

She cursed mentally, nothing showing on her face, now she had to speak. Now she had to ruin the picture of elegance with that voice of hers. Her head tilted to one side, and she spoke in an odd sort of tone, not something you'd expect from a mare that looked like her, a little huskier, lower than any female she'd met, bordering on a voice worthy of a young stallion, "Interesting name. I'm Alinea. Spoken Al-in-Nay." She'd often heard it spoken wrong...badly wrong and wanted to avoid that. To continue the pleasantries she smiled, "So what's a fluff-ball like you doing out here?" On occasion it sounded like her pronunciation was almost...too harsh, as though she were trying to speak properly for some reason.

"Alinea. Nice name. I likes it" He grinned wide. "I guess you could say I was just getting a better look around. I'm a bit new here to this land so I figured I'd get a look around and not get lost." He shuffled a bit from side to side, his tail still waggling. "What about you? What brings you out here?" Her voice didn't bother him much at all in face for him her voice just seemed to fit with those eyes of hers.

Alinea blinked a bit, then answered a little oddly, "Eh...well...it's a long story, but I'm new to this place too...I'm just...kinda..kind of starting over." She was almost going to tell him about how she was picked on because out of a whole herd of winds she was the one that showed the mixed lineage from a few dozen generations back. She wasn't a pure wind or rather her lineage hadn't been, "sometimes I guess it's better to just break off and start over...so that's what I'm doing." She was going to start rambling if she didn't stop herself, and that...would be bad, "This might seem kinda..kind of strange, but...you look an awful lot like a sheep dog, and it kinda makes me wanna...want to laugh." She gave him an almost apologetic look, "I think I might have hurt something trying not to, since it's rude to do that."

He blinked a few times bobbing hes head up some. "A sheep dog?" This was new... What was a sheep dog? Oh he remembered now... the same reason he'd left a herd of drafts they couldn't get over how goofy he was. They'd assumed that all drafts had to be prim, proper and elegant. He was by far beyond that. "It would appear our stories are similar.. I figured it was time to let things be and leave to find myself on my own." He chuckled a deep rumbling laugh and wagged his tail again, it's poofieness looking slightly like a pom-pom.

She couldn't contain the giggle this time, it sounded like a babbling brook that crashed against rapids now and then, she flushed, a rosy tint coming to her black cheeks, "Ah...sorry, shouldn't laugh like that. It's unbecoming." Her head tilted down hiding her eyes and the flush, "I was always told it was...too rough for a mare." it was an almost meek explanation, giving off the idea that though she might be capable, she was still a bit...too conscious of her own short comings.

"Nonsense, a good sense of humor and chuckle's healthy!" He grinned widely. "Come on.. you know you want to let it out.. just a little teehee.. or haha??" He lowered his head down and nearly stuck his goofy face just in sight for her and made an even sillier face with his tongue lawled out to the side and his head tilted.

She couldn't help the cackle that burst from her, it was all just far too amusing, his look and tongue lolling out the side of his mouth, he was the epitome of a dog in horse skin. Her wings twitched as she cackled, laughed, guffawed and otherwise made her ribs and stomach hurt from enjoying his silly face. Alinea realized in the back of her mind that she had never really laughed like that in the whole of her life. Laughter had been something that was embarrassing, and it was almost forbidden, but now she was on her own, and here, she was making a fool of herself, laughing so hard she couldn't breath. She sank down on her haunches and sat there gasping for air, laughing away. It was a most pitiful sight, a strong mare cackling at the furry stallion in front of her.

Grinning wide, he chuckled in response. "See there! laughter it's a great thing to have!" He saw her laughter as a good sign for her. It meant she was relaxing around him and that was a good thing if they were ever going to become friends. He wanted to be her friend at least. "Need a small breather?" He looked at her full on still grinning his goofy dorky grin.

She nodded, she needed air, badly, though his grin at her made it rather difficult to manage to get said air. Tears were streaming down her face with a grin that made her cheeks hurt, "Shilo, you're dang(hic)erous with that ability. Bent hu(cough)mor." She was gasping and coughing, and it also seemed as though she had the hiccups on top of it. Alinea took a few deep breaths and got it down to a minor giggle now and then. "I don't think I've ever laughed that hard...now my sides hurt." She groaned a bit, but didn't regret the laughter, for once, she wasn't regretting looking like a fool, but then Shilo looked more of a fool than she did.

Shilo nodded. "I've been told I have a nack for making others laugh. I don't mind though. It means they're at least feeling some sort of joy from my bizarre antiques." Chuckling, he gave his tail a small waggle and looked around. "We should get some water, it'll help with the hiccups you have." He gave a small nod and snuffled at the air. "This way." With that he turned and made for the trees.

Shakily, Alinea got to her feet and followed him. It was very odd but the first chance she'd gotten, she'd found someone, most unusual to enjoy the start of a new...adventure. The next, hopefully not so dark, chapter in her life. At least she was starting out with a friend, rather than another enemy.

His head bobbed some as he walked. He'd figured out a nice place to get water when he had been walking the perimeter of the herd. "Nice place isn't it? Seems like it's such a nice place to start fresh, new without the others in a group trying to pressure you to act how they want you to be rather than acting how your are and being true to one's self wouldn't you say?"

She couldn't help grinning, "Are you a mind reader, Shilo?" She looked at the scenery and smiled a bit warmly, "Or rather, changing to be what you want, rather than what they turned you into through their cruelty." She sighed, "It was not pleasant being feared...and being evil enough to deserve that fear." There was a strange tone to her voice, but it disappeared as she saw a rabbit playing tag with a fox, shaking her head she merely continued to follow after Shilo as he led the way.

He cocked his head to the side some. "Is that how it was for you? I had been talking about myself when I spoke.." He looked rather thoughtful for once. They seemed more like one another than he'd thought before. The social out casts of their kind. "They were mostly after me to be more majestic and less.... goofy.. They weren't very fond of my care free ways..."

Alinea smirked a bit wryly, "I was the feared, and hated wind with eyes of the cursed Kalona. They tortured me as a foal, I was really lucky to live to be an adult...then they came to fear my anger." her teeth glistened and showed that they were much like many of the feared Kalona's, not as long, but just as sharp, "I was the vicious creature who maimed several of their young stallions. Merely because they'd been trying to harm me, but after awhile, I simply became a beast who hurt those around her to keep them from thinking they could harm me. And then, I was about to kill a foal for no other reason than it's mother had insulted me, under her breath..." She shook her head, "I'd become exactly what they feared, self fulfilling prophecy for them. They feared me, what else was I to do but live up to what they were saying?" Her glowing yellow eyes glanced off in the distance, "I started to change that day. The thing that set me off the most, was a young mare...gave birth and begged me not to kill her foals, crying for forgiveness for her actions...I couldn't believe what I'd turned into, and left. There was nothing there for me anyway."

"I see... I guess I understand where you're coming from.. They petty much molded you into what they feared the most..." He blinked a few times. "They say that we all fear the un-known the most and what we all fear we mostly decide that he must hate it... Sadly it's the norm for most logic..." He huffed a small sigh. "I'm glad to have found a group here that's accepted me for who I am inside and nothing more.. The mare that leads it seems fairly wise. Her view is no matter how it looks on the outside there's bound to be good inside and it's that which she seeks to learn more about an individual."

Suddenly Alinea realized she'd just about rambled her whole life story off to him, save for the part about her mother leaving her to die, "Ah...I'm sorry, I got caught up in the moment and rambled." She shook her head, "It's not like they didn't know Kalona's. In fact they bragged a bit about their being Kalona blood in herd, I guess they just never figured there'd be any real signs to back it up." Smirking a bit lopsidedly, "Good for you. I think I'll avoid herds for the most part. I always felt so cramped in mine, probably part of why leaving felt so good. I don't mind company, but the silence when you're alone is very comforting." She flushed, "Not that I'm complaining about noise right now. I really did need a laugh...it was very relieving for me." She wasn't sure she was able to recover from what she'd said, or if there was a need to, all this being nice stuff was a little beyond her, though she was trying.

He nodded once more. "It's understandable." The sound of a trickling brook drew his attention. "Ah here's the water." He grinned wide at her. Some times it was good to be alone and it seemed like she'd be fine without the aid of a herd.

She blinked a bit, her hiccups long gone anyway, but now she was thoroughly confused. It seemed like he'd blown off what she'd told him, or perhaps he really didn't have anything to say about it, moving to the stream she kicked her foreleg flicking her long braided mane back so that it wasn't near the water, it sent snow flying just a little, but not in any particular direction. Slowly she lowered her head and drank from the cold brook. Caught up in her thoughts she drank too fast and gained a severe headache from the cold, suddenly she back peddled her eyes shut, and wincing horribly, ":Stupid cold." She tried to breath out warm air, but found it didn't help. "Brain freeze is not fun." She was almost in tears, knowing she should have drank slower.

He blinked as he was about to take a drink himself. She was in pain obviously now. "Are you alright?" He perked his ears at her and walked over and snuffled her head. "here here... Settle down and just, try not to breath through your nose so much.."

She whimpered and rubbed her face on him, "Bra~in Freeze, I drank the water too fast and froze the roof of my mouth." She looked much younger than she was for a moment, her face scrunched up and small squeaks of slight pain coming from her. Then, the sensation was gone. She looked up from where she'd planted her face against his neck, "sorry, I used you as a head warmer." She gently stepped back, "I am the least elegant creature ever. First I cackle up a storm, then I freeze my head and my nose. I am on a role today."

He couldn't help but to chuckle and shake his head. "It's ok we all have moments. Besides.. I happen to like you're laugh it's infectious." He gave her a wide grin. Besides, I don't mind that you used me as a head warmer. After all, what's the use of being so fuzzy if I'm not warm?" He gave her another goofy look.

Alinea felt the heat rise to her cheeks, and she felt her heart pound a bit at that grin of his. What the heck? she boggled in her mind just a little and she pushed that out of her mind, unsure of what it was that had startled her that much, "I'm glad you don't mind, I would think most stallions would want to thump me if I did something like that." She gave him a devious sort of look, "You are however an odd breed, so I'm sure it has something to do with it."

Her eyes went wide and she flushed again, "Well, I'm sure there are pretty mares who have that sort of trouble," She looked a bit sheepish, "Can't say I ever had to beat off a stallion, I am simply not attractive to them." She smiled then, "I think they fear that I'll eat them, which isn't such a bad thing." She had never had an interest in mating rituals, so she'd ignored it, figuring she was never going to be a mare anyone was interested in, her herd having drilled into her head that she was a hideous monster.

"I can't see why you haven't..." He thought about what he'd said then flushed a bit himself. "I mean.... You're not as hideous as you may think." He grinned. Now him.. that was another story.. he was goofy and looked like a canine, who'd want to really put those genetics into their line? Shrugging he bumped her shoulder with her nose. "You shouldn't be so quick to put yourself down, I'm sure when you're ready you'll find the right one for you."

She looked at him aghast, hiding the fact that his thoughtful sentence had sent her heart thumping again, "I'm a dark mare with a shock of red hair, only monsters would want to breed with me." Her eyes narrowed and she grinned, "Of course, unlike some pretty little mares, I have no intention of breeding with anyone. Rather not have my line continue on." Really she didn't want to end up with offspring that were going to be feared, and perhaps treated even worse than she had been, or end up with them being truly incapable of dealing with their darker side. "I'm sure you've had ladies lined up all over the place once they got a look in those green eyes of yours. The kind of big strong male that just makes them weak in the knees." She grinned at him, blowing his bangs out of his face for a moment, "Yep, lady killer green eyes."

He shook his head some, forelock falling back into place as he did. " Can't say that I do.. Really I'm pretty sure I'm must too.... awkward for them." He gave a small shrug. Before pushing the thought aside. "And I wouldn't think only a 'monster' would have you...I'm sure some one nice will be happy to have you for himself. You just don't need to be afraid to try and search for him." He gave a few good nods to make sure she understood he was just offering friendly advice.

One of her wings twitched, "I don't need to breed to feel accomplished in my life." She smirked a bit, "I've found one good friend, and that's a much better accomplishment then getting knocked up or having to deal with a stallion who's looking at me as a mate." She lightly shook her head, "And you yourself should follow your own advice, Shilo, if I was a better mare, I might make a pass at you." She didn't think much of what she'd said, but it was almost admitting that she had thought about him in that manner, which she hadn't, yet. Alinea's mind wandered for a moment, she wondered a bit why it was so easy to chat with him, then shrugged it off, he wasn't from her herd, and he'd run into some issues with his own. Both of them making a new start was a sure fire way to give them a level playing ground, that was obviously why she enjoyed chatting with him.

He gave a small shrug. "I'm... not yet interested in starting a life with a mare and having little ones." He grinned wide. "Besides. I figure if it's going to happen at all it'll happen on it's own time. I'm not foolish enough to think that It will never happen though. Even I know that matters of the heart just seem to have their own mind so to speak." With a waggle of his tail, he turned and got the drink he'd been meaning to get. A small sip and then he rose his head and looked back at her. "Besides.. Children are probably not something We should be talking about.." He gave a sheepish grin.

Alinea snorted, "And why not? I'm sure we'll still be friends when you've had children. Or would you rather they not get to know the evil monster with wings?" She smirked a bit wickedly, totally missing the fact that he was implying them talking about children, and perhaps it being misconstrued of them wanting to have them together.

He boggled at her. "I didn't say that.. I just was talking about the topic of children all together.. I didn't wish to upset you or give cause to any passers by misconstruding this conversation to think that we were wanting them with one another.." A dull maroon tinged his face. I er... never wanted you to think that I wouldn't wish my children to know you... I would be glad for my future children to know my good friend. and I hope to some day meet yours."

She giggled at his babbling a bit, then noticed the tinge on his face, he was embarrassed. it was amusing to her, "I was only joking, sheesh. Don't take it so seriously fluff ball." She grinned, "Come on, Shilo, you think I'd be serious about it? I mean really you're the first stallion I've met who hasn't run screaming, but then, I wasn't in a sour mood when we met, so that might have something to do with it."

Still he flushed a bit more. "Sorry.." Was all he could muster up. When she mentioned having not been in a sour mood, he Shrugged. "Well, I'm glad That I didn't meet you whilst you were in a foul mood it would have made my trying to get to know you a bit... rough." He flashed her a wide grin. "It wouldn't be half as fun without some one like you as a friend."

Rini Dragonsis: Alinea blinked a bit, gold eyes almost perplexed. The term 'friend' had never been applied to her. She wasn't quite sure if it was comforting, or disconcerting to have him call her that. Shaking her head, "You sure do make friend's fast then. Not that I'm complaining, there are so few good natured creatures, especially towards those who aren't...like the others, or seem tainted." She rolled her eyes, "Gods only know how in the world all the Soquili species got so damn elitist about the lines." Of course she spoke of how many of the wind tribes tended to feel superior to the land walkers.

He gave a small shrug. " Yes well, it happens I guess. Best we ca do is avoid the snobs and move on with our lives learning from our pasts." Stretching out with his neck, he snuffled her wing some, wiggling his upper lip across her feathers trying to see if she was the least bit ticklish. She was nice, interesting and he figured in a world that had been obviously cruel to the both of them maybe the could be friends all the same even though they'd only met this day.

Her wing twitched as he snuffled it, then baffed him in the face with it, "You are not allowed to go and nibble at my feathers." Her brow furrowed, "And sniffing them is right out." Those were not sentences she'd ever even thought of having to say, so she giggled again, "I seem to be making all kinds of odd statements." She grinned a bit, and moved to a safe distance and stretched her wings, his snuffling and nibbling had made her feathers itchy, so she simply had to arrange them properly.

Chuckling he shrugged some. "It didn't tickle?" He stared at her from under his forelock, ears perked as he watched her. "Oh come on just have a little bit of fun." He gave that goofy looking grin to her before looking around some. He'd lost track of the day during this meeting. " I've enjoyed our visit, Alinea we really must do this again some time, talk and get to know one another further."

Alinea blinked again, then nodded, "Alright, well then. Lets meet again sometime." She wasn't exactly sure if she'd hold to that, considering he was likely going to be involved with others sooner rather than later. Pessimism crept into her mind, what if he was just brushing her off since it wasn't terribly important for him to stick around? Did he have somewhere else he needed to be? She stuffed it all away, not wanting to think about it, and smiled at him, as she stretched her wings a bit more and turned in a random direction, looking for somewhere to go for the later evening.

"I'll hold you to it then." He grinned wide with a chuckle. " how about when the moon next is big and glowing? Sound like a god time for us to meet once more?" His short tail gave a slight swish. He wanted to know this mare some more, hopefully truly become her friend for he had few in this strange new land.

She looked back at him and her eyes almost seemed to glow, "Sounds like a plan." With that she gave a slight run, and took to the air, she'd almost perfected her sprint down to the inch it took to get off the ground, she swung back and dropped a bit of snow on him then left cackling, her figure easily spotted in the clear sky.

He watched her leave, shaking off the snow she'd dropped down on him. Turning, he made his way in his own direction. He'd remember their meeting time, but would she? Shaking his mane some, he figured he'd just take that chance. Either way, she'd been a pleasure to meet even if their paths didn't cross again for a while.
