He had been lost in his own mind for too long, wandering without purpose or thought. Without destination or goal. It felt as though time flew without his mind registering, as though he were falling through a world unknown to him, people flying by, time simply vanishing in seconds. Perhaps it was reality slipping away from him, maybe he was going inside. Kayle didn't know, and he didn't care anymore, he was tired. He had lost all focus on life, he didn't even know if his father still lived. He walked in the streets, his hands tucked deeply into his pockets, watching the streets.

People brushed by him, knocking him to and fro where he stood; but he paid them no notice, just continued walking as if though nothing existed. His eyes glazed, his mouth opened a crack. He looked up only as he came to a wooden board, the notes posted all around them. Nothing worth noting. Just like everyday... his hand tightened in his pocket, his face and body redirected and his steps continued down another street, another lane. It was an endless line of eternities, perhaps life would never change, as he saw the same faces and the same people doing the samethings. Maybe he truly was gonig crazy, just maybe.

--

He woke up, just like every other morning, tired and cold. He slept in the streets again, too afraid to spend the coin he earned the night before. He never knew when he would really need it, and there was always the chance that the royal guards may someday lower the price of freeing his father. A strange world. He looked up at the blue sky, his eyes heavy with anguish and depression, his face marred by dirt and his clothes smelling like sweat.

He walked towards the board again, his steps just as slow as the day before, his mind still as lost. Was it a day? Or... was it more... He had lost track of time along time ago. This time, there was something new, something that held his interest. A purpose to his empty life. The army was searching for volunteers... perhaps this would earn him some respectibility, some credit, to get his father out. "It is worth the chance..." He said quietly. He read the flyer again carefully, memorizing everything word for word.

--

He stood before a building of no important size or build. Nothign that would've held his attention for long, but he was completely sure this was the place. He opened the door slowly, stepping inside to meet whoever else might've come. Anybody else that might be here, they all had to be as desperate as he, or blood lusting men. He would have to keep to himself, and that's what he'd do. He ensured the grappling hook on his belt remained tight and secured his dagger as well, before going inside and melting himself into shadows, where he could watch and keep safe.

Destination is merely a state of mind, people find things they're looking for when they least expect it. In order to find this place they must ignore looking for it completely. ~~~ Kail Aias

A young boy dressed in earthen colors with silver hair and green eyes wandered around the woods. They headed this way. I saw them go this way a few days ago... didn't they rest? He thought, keeping his lance in his hands with his wrist back and the shaft going up pst his shoulder with the tip pointing towards the ground. The lance was probably bigger than him. It made no matter, he pressed onward. The wyvern riding woman said they were headed to a dojo a few days this way. I was decieved. he thought, beginning to have doubts. The little boy did not look like a lance wielder by any means. By dress he looked like he'd more comfortable with a bow, seeing as how his garb resembled that of a ranger. His ears were picking up several sounds, even the chirping of birds up above the thicket.

He heard some rustling in the bushes, he twirled his lance around back and forth between both arms before leaping into the air and stabbing -something-. He saw a fawn with the lance right between the eyes. "...Good. I can eat well tonight." He said quietly, taking out the lance and wiping the blood off. He reached into his pockets and produced a skinning knife and removing the skin. The whole process took a few hours, but he was soon able to eat. He removed the heart and began to build a fire. He set up a little rotary cooker out of a few branches and used the shaft of his lance to hold the tender pieces of venison as the cooked. Within hours he ate, and he did in fact eat well. After he was done, he put the fire out and cleaned off his lance. He smelled himself and realized how badly he had begun to reek. He reluctantly walked into a cold stream and almost froze as he washed off. After he got out he shivered as he dried off and quickly got dressed, taking his lance and once again set off.

Within a few hours he had arrived at civilization. Civilization meant food and that usually meant showers too. He grinned weakly. Shara... this is all for you. I want to improve myself and protect you... you don't even know me that well, but I will do my all to protect you, and have all the good things happen to you and nobody else, but you. He thought, finally stumbling upon the dojo. It held his attention for a few moments, but it wasn't for long. His hands trembled as the reached for the door. He gained his nerve and placed them against the door, sliding it open and walking in.

---The sun shone down on the water, dancing around on the waves. White shirt, green armor, Elli sat at the water's edge. She stood up, taking her feet out of the water. The cool ocean air whistled by her as she put her boots back on. She looked across the water, then turned to her mount, a black wyvern. The sun gleamed off it's scales. She got on, and they rose up into the sky, flying north.

*

---She rode through the sky, over forests, rivers, and cities, until she stopped by a small pond in central Lycia. It had gotten dark, and although it was a long journey to the mountains in northern Lycia, flying was much faster than by foot, as she knew some people where going. She flew, and "as the crow flies" is much faster, gliding over everything. No need to worry about trails and paths.
Elli found a broad tree and leaned against it, deciding it best to get a bit of rest before arriving at the dojo.

*

---She woke up, early dawn and headed out once again. She had two lances strapped across her back--an iron lance and javelin-- and a helmet hanging on her belt. She flew for hours, until she finally reached a small dojo in the mountains. She got off her mount, put her helmet on and casually walked into the small main room of the dojo.

Valin attracted a surprising amount of attention as he strode in, casually gripping his lance as he did so. He seemed capable, but was nothing compared to the others there. He spotted Elli, but remained silent. Nobody he had ever seen before was there, apart from a friend of his father's, a female myrmidon who appeared to be resting by the way she leaned against the wall with her eyes closed and her sword over her shoulder. He looked around, nobody who attracted any attention to him. People began to stare at him partly because he was a mere boy. He turned to then, opening his eyes from the squint to flash his emerald eyes before taking a spot at the wall, still gripping his lance. He was in the mood to spar.

Almost immediately after entering Valin was confronted by a young swordswoman to a duel. He took a trainer lance and took it so it was parallel to his right bicep with his left leg lifted and his foot pointed down. The swordswoman took a fencer's stance with a wooden slim sword. Valin rushed forward, bringing up the lance to smack the blade away, but he failed and was hit horizontally at the shaft, ruining his stance, but he brought the "blade" to the back of her foot and tried to trip her, but failed as she backflipped gracefully over the shaft, causing him to stumble after he caught his own shin. She spun the blade in his fingers nimbly as Valin raised his far above his head, leapt into the air, catching quite a bit of height before both blades clashed. He slid down. Her sword was ast his throat and his lance was at hers. "Blast! A draw." They both muttered.

Kayle, who was not sitting all that far away from the pair of duelists, watched intently, his lips pulled at a mischievious smile, the oceanic orbs of aqua blue turning about in its own mysterious ways. His smile pulled further into a sneer, as he leapt out from the shadows that he embraced around him, exposing himself, his hand on his hip the other at his head in a mock salute, "Greetings, strange that we all come here to gather, and the first thing you blockheads want to do is hit each other" His voice was light, humored, and he held a boyish charm to himself, though in reality he was just hiding his fear. He had to get somebody big to get on his side, otherwise he'd just be an untrustable thief.

Both combatants turned to Kayle. "You know... if I wanted a messload of crap from a little pickpocket, I would have stayed in that hellhole in--" The two began silmultaeneously. "Ilia!" Valin yelled. "Sacae!" The swordswoman hissed when Valin said "Ilia." Both of them looked back at each other, eyes wide and looked back at Kayle. "Shall we?" The girl asked, unsheathing a real blade. Valin put his hand on her shoulder and shook his head when she turned to him. "...We cannot afford to kill anyone who will likely take a life of the enemy before they take them... we'll let him get a few things... then you may have your way with him." Valin suggested sounding like his hero, Kail. He opened his eyes, his emerald green eyes gazing coldly at her. "Let him live... if he does live through the first battle... then we may find some use for the little smartass, right?" He gaze fell on Kayle. "...You may be useful... So I've got your back..." He said bluntly, taking his real lance and strapping it to his back.

---What he found was everyone inside acting like children, sparring without permission. He looked at Sairys, who was already casting a spell at the two young fighters. They where arguing about something, and apparently they didn't expect Sairys' wind blast, which filled the room with a piercing shriek. "Enough." Icarus cried, "Everybody line up on this line." He was pointing to a black charcoal line on the bamboo flooring. "What is your name?" He asked, to the woman with her hair covering one of her eyes, as he opened the muster book. ((Sorry about the inactivity guys, some things have come up))

Leaping away from the sudden shove of wind, he looked up with immense shock lighting his entire features, his visage somewhere a cross between amazement and fear. He had started to his knife free from its place, when he realized who the man was and came to skidding halt. He frowned for a second, crossing his arms risking a glance at Valin, making sure he was well. He had made one friend, whether they were actually friendly or not was besides the point, and he wasn't just yet going to lose him.

Moving forward, he halted his light steps only whence he was standing the line, facing the man before him directly, his back straight. He was attempting to mimic the soldiers he saw marching the streets, and the prison guards of the oh so familiar bars. His hand still twitched slightly wanting to reach for his blade, he may not have been a fighter, but he always had a nose for trouble and this man almost stank of it.

---Elli sat still by the door of the dojo, watching the fight. Did they want to show off or were they that desperate for some fighting? She turned though when the door beside her opened. She raised her hand to cover her head when a strong wind blast filled the room. Her helmet was still on so she only needed to cover the bottom half of her face. Icarus entered the room and she followed his order, standing on the black charcoal line.

---Icarus turned to her first and she replied blankly, "Elli." with a small salute, but not showing much respect and even less enthusiasm.

Valin and the girl collided, hit the floor and rolled for a bit. Valin got up with his face bleediing from his face striking her blade a bit and the girl's leg was cut slightly from scraping Valin's lance tip. Both of them got up, Valin clutched his face. "Oww! Oww!" He cried as he got up, blood running through his fingers. He turned to the swordswoman. "You okay?" He asked, watching her get up. "Fine.... just a scra--What the hell happened to you?!" She asked, examinging Valin's face. Valin said nothing and got to the end of the line hestitantly. The swordswoman shook her head and took her place on line next to some friends and began to converse. Valin, still clutching his face, turned to see Elli salute, then turned back.

---It is one of those interesting facets of the human condition, most men with any power will automatically value his own life over that of his subordinates. Icarus had this sort of arrogant air about him, he didn't care much for his soldiers, that was for sure, and he wrote "Elli" in the muster book. "Well Elli, from what you have seen here, are any of these other recruits unfit in any way? In your opinion, naturally."

---He was trying to streamline the process, not only to save time but also to because he hated legalities, contracts, and other forms of "petty distractions" that diverted the focus away from training. Sairys doesnt look like she is in a good mood. He noticed, completely ignoring what Elli said, he didn't even quite make out what she said at all. "Well, I will need you names to put them in the muster book, you are all intermediate recruits, once you are through with basic training you will gain the rank of Private, until then you will have no paycheck and you will berth with the civilians." More petty distractions. He was talking like he owned the place, which he did, but he was only eighteen years old, and anyone in the room would have smiled and turned away.

---He had a sort of look on his face, contempt, contempt for his father and his lieutenant-colonel Mr. Rodney. None of them understood why he was doing what he was doing, he didn't think they cared. His plans were simple, to form a small secret police force consisting of loyal soldiers, to protect the capital from invasion. He wanted a small police force, not the three hundred soldiers his father had assigned to him, it's not like he could weed out the weaker members, they where all equally useless.

---He snapped back to reality and wrote down the names as they spoke. When he had finished writing the last name, Valin, he turned to Sairys. "go get me some trainers, alright? Make it quick." Then to everyone else: "Alright, if you ladies want to fight, we are going to do it the right way. Pick a partner, the leftovers get to fight me." He like the general murmur of acceptance he heard from the recruits.

Valin looked around calmly trying to wipe his blood off his face, which was easy. As for bandaging it he didn't bother with it. He threw his hood over his face and ripped off a part of his cape, using it to cover his still fresh wound. He looked around as he stepped towards the arena, emerald eyes being the only thing seen under his hood as clearly as they could. He took a trainer lance and strapped his regular lance to his back. "I will take on any with no qualms of fighting a child." He said, narrowing his eyes as he scanned the opposition. A journeywoman about his age with wild red locks passing her neck, a simple green cotton shirt and skirt matching her eyes and a wooden hatchet came up to the arena. "...You're ready to be humiliated?" She asked him, giving a few pracitce swings. Valin answered that with a few showy twirls and spins of his lance, switching hands for a few seconds before taking his stance. "Rules of engagement?" He asked. "Fight." She responded. "First hit?" He asked. "First to fall." She said bluntly. Both of them took positions on the opposite ends of the arena. "Go on Renita!" He heard a fighter shout. "Kick that sorry punk's butt!" He shouted, encouraging her. "Bite your lip, little one!" He heard a familiar voice shout. "Relax and focus on battle!" He turned to see the female myrmidon who was resting and her daughter, he assumed; which was the swordswoman he fought who was standing right by her cheering him on. He siad nothing, the hunter in him took over. "Go!" The enemy shouted and the battle was on.

Valin's first instinct was to lunge and thrust, she smacked the lance to the ground and went for his chest, but miscalculations happened and when he stepped back she missed and was thrown off balance. Valin stepped further back and brought the lance back and down on her, which she parried with the shaft of her axe and used to jerk him forward when she slashed. He began to make distance between her, but she threw the wooden weapon for him. Valin didn't care if it was wood, a thrown axe was a thrown axe regardless and if it hit, it would hurt. He brought himself into a crawling position and leapt towards his left side, the axe totally missing him. It came back to her and his eyes widened. "Bloody..." He muttered standing back up and slashing at it entered her hand. He brought the lance around and swung again, this time nearly hitting, but she was down and at her axe. Both of them brought back with all their force, swung and both weapons were shattered to pieces. "Ready for a real fight?" Valin asked, getting another wooden lance. "You kidding? Just getting started." The girl responded. The second round began with a horizontal slash from the axe aimed at Valin's midrift, which missed because Valin rolled under it and swung for her side, which was blocked with her axe. He grabbed the lance midshaft and held it horizontally across his body. She slashed horizontally, making a fatal error. He glided to the side flawlessly. His emerald eyes glowed fiercely as his brought the butt end of his lance into her back, brought it back and smacked her with the bladed end right accross the end, released it with his left hand, spun it in his right and smacked her again with the butt, brought the blade around again and hit her in the shins before bringing the blade up to strike, he polevaulted into the air and landed, feet placed wide, next to eitherside of her waist and his lance was a mere inch away from her face. The glow faded. "I win." He said, starting towards the lines. "Valin! Your mother would be proud!" The myrmidon said to him from the sidelines. Valin suddenly turned around to see the fighter scolding Renita, who had lost. "Hey, jackass! Scold her when you beat me!" Valin said arrogantly, turning back and going to the center of the arena.

The Myrmidon togged him by his cloak. "I'll handle him." She sighed, stepping into the arena to combat the Fighter. "Good look, Genesis!" Valin called. Genesis the Myrmidon smiled at him. "Hey, Valin... we haven't met for real yet. My name is Delores." The swordswoman said extending a hand to Valin, who shook it. "...You're Genesis' daughter? You look just like her." Both of the females had a slim build, rounded "features" and the same pale skin and lilac eyes. Genesis had midnight blue hair and Delores' was jet black however. "...So... Shara told me a little asbout you. You're a lot cuter in person." She giggled, blowing him a joking kiss. He turned away. "One sec. I wanna see your mom cream that smelly fool." Valin said, watching the upcoming fight intently.
