Life on the beach was as peaceful as she had hoped, but she could not help comparing them to the beaches from her native lands. The sands were much whiter and finer. They were not as dark and rocky as these lands. The waters were much colder and impossible to bear when stepped into, making her hunt sea vegetation much more difficult. Maybe next summer she would venture out into the waters and stock up before the waters got too cold.
The mare shivered lightly, wondering why it was so cold. It never got this cold in her home land. She really did not know how to prepare for the cold either. She had collected no food, and did not know how to prepare herself to be warm for the colder months. She pondered asking someone, but she had yet to run into anyone since her time on these lands. Her hazel eyes glanced over to the forest behind her. She needed to go eat, but what could she find there? The mare was not really wary of the vegetation on these lands... Yet, she did not want that to get her down. She was going to figure it out, even if that meant trial and error.
Heading off towards the forest, the mare took in everything with guarded curiosity. Taking a sniff at something curious, she'd examine it for a moment before walking away and looking at something else. Maybe she'd find something that smelled and looked familiar to her, and find it edible.

Exhaling in a low snort, Raikinti shook himself from muzzle to tail as he tried to warm himself. He had no real winter coat to speak of, his hide short and silken as it was in summer. With no long mane or tail to hide behind, he was sticking to the more heavily forested areas where the wind could not reach so deeply into his bones. The forest was his haven anyway, particularly in this new land where he knew so few of its inhabitants. Almost no one, aside from his best friend. Lucky enough that he was such good friends with Delrialto, or he probably would have had no place to go when he'd been banished from his herd. Well, told to change his ways or leave, given a choice his father had said. It wasn't much of a choice, when you really thought about it. So here he was in a strange land, wandering because his best friend had a big mouth and a passion for beauty. "Go to the beach, he says." Raikinti laughed to himself. "Watch the waves, he says. Delri must be part arctic-bird, and not feel the cold... Why am I doing this?" Hesitating at the edge of the forest, he poked his nose out of the thick cover of trees and then pulled it back, flattening his ears. Blazes it was cold! Cautiously he poked his head out of the trees again, glancing around.

Naniahiahi paused for a moment when she heard some rustling of the bushes. Her ears perked up, and swiveled towards the sound. 'Could it have been a native animal, or another Soquili?' She thought to herself. Lowering her head as she crept towards the noise, the cold breeze whipped her hair in one direction to the next.
The mare had to admit in her head that it was probably not the smartest idea to wander in the direction of the noise. It could be a carnivorous animal, or it could just be as harmless as a young buck. The mare paused for a moment before calling out. "Is someone there?" She called out with a voice hinting at a foreign accent. Her body was shaking slightly from the cold air and breeze that was starting to pick up.

Green eyes widened a fraction as he craned more of his neck through the greenery and his gaze landed on a mare in shades similar to his own. Well, fancy that? This little lady seemed to be just as chilled as he, her lines more intricate decoration that his own. She was lovely as the flower tucked behind her ear, a rare tropical bloom he didn't recognize. "Oh..." He muttered and then inched a little further still into sight, ducking his head in bashful greeting. "Apologies my Lady, I was just wandering and muttering to myself.. I hope I didn't startle you." Stepping into view he flicked his tail and shivered at another particularly enthusiastic gust of wind. Cold! "And excuse my poor manners for not introducing myself first thing... I'm Raikinti, a newcomer to this land... A friend recommended I take in the sight of the ocean, and so here I am..." He shifted on his hooves and grinned. "I really hope I didn't startle or disturb you, I'm afraid I might have gotten a bit lost and was muttering to myself..."

Wandering in the direction of the noise, she could not pinpoint the exact location. It had not exactly breached the underbrush onto the beach, so she could not tell what it was. Stopping a couple feet from the Soquili unaware that it was there, she looked at him in surprise before offering the other stallion with a soft smile. "Aloha." She said to him before shaking her head. "‘A‘ole! You did not surprise me." She shook her head, indicating what the foreign word might have meant, continuing to give the stallion a friendly smile.
Feeling a particular gust of wind the mare froze up for a moment . Her smile totally disappeared from her face to show discomfort. The mare tried to replace it with a smile again, but could not overcome the feeling of cold. The mare took in the stallion's features. It was nice. He was a lovely natural with markings that extenuate his face and other features. The mare yet again shook her head, and smiled at the other stallion warmly. "‘A‘ole! It is alright. I am Naniahiahi. It is nice to meet you, Raikinti." Her features brightened up considerably when she heard that he was from another land. "Oh! I am new to this land as well..!" The mare glanced over to the ocean and smiled, looking over the waters fondly. "It is beautiful, and today, it appears.. angry." She watched as the gray waters crashed hard onto the grayer shores.
The mare shook her head again, her long hair tousled around her before smiling to him. "Do not fret. I was not startled or disturbed." She told to him softly.

Untangling himself from the protection of the forest, Raikinti wound his way through the low brush and stopped when he stood in the high grass that heralded the beginning of the beach. His short tail flicked from side to side and he shivered in the wind, but his expression remained friendly and curious. "Aloha?" He chuckled. "That's pretty, is it the way they say hello in your homeland? And I'm glad I didn't, I would have felt terrible for it." He shifted slightly, cloven hooves digging into the sand, inspiring him to paw at it idly. The white grains mixed with gray and even a pale gold, an interesting blend that he'd never seen before. Then again, he was more familiar with desert, grassland and forest than he was ocean. "Naniahiahi." He murmured, testing her name. He'd always been fairly good with remembering them, and the rolling almost-lyrical sound intrigued him. "It is a pleasure indeed to meet you, a fellow stranger in this place." Glancing to the water, his deer-like ears pitched forward and then lay back in trepidation. "Is it always so... wild?" He inched a little closer to the edge of the brush and grass, staring at the ocean. "My best friend is always talking about how beautiful it is, but I've never seen it... It's almost scary, isn't it?"

Naniahiahi nodded her head at his guess of the meaning of the word. The mare smiled warmly at the stallion. The cold breeze made her smile falter as her hair whipped against her face and about with the wind tossing it in every direction.
The mare nodded to the stallion. "Oh yah, where do you come from?" She asked in a soft tone. Her hazel gaze raised to meet his gaze. She then shifted her gaze again to the waves, and shook her head. "It can be tame, and it can be wild. It can be pleasant, and it can be vengeful. The ocean shows us a vast range of emotions." She said, keeping her gaze on the turbulent waves.
The mare heard the soft sounds of hooves on sand. Since she had no moved, she had assumed it was the stallion that moved. Her gaze shifted back to him and wondered what made him withdraw. The mare gave the stallion a slight smile at his question. "It might be scary, but I am impressed by its strength." She said softly, barely audible over the crashing waves and the strong winds.

Usually somewhat awkward around strangers, Raikinti nevertheless relaxed further when she nodded and smiled. Well, he got it right! "Aloha." He tested, and then grinned at her, glad the wind could do little more than pluck at his forelock. It seemed to be giving her a bit of trouble, but she somehow seemed at home in the salty-air before the roaring water. "Eh? Oh, a small herd in a forest at the edge of a grassland... The air's hot, most of the vegetation is tough and a little dry... It's beautiful in its own way, but I'm glad of this new home." At her words he turned to watch the ocean, ears flicking forward as the water drew back and then flattening when it roared forward again. It was impressive, but terrifying. Maybe he'd walk in the shallows, but he certainly didn't want to go too far in.. The mere thought of being tossed around like a leaf in the wind was terrifying, he didn't want to experience it for himself. "I'm impressed." He agreed. "But cautiously so. I don't know if I'd be brave enough to swim, like some of my friends do." He glanced at her with a curious tilt of his head. "Do you ever swim?"
