User ImageWHITE! The ground was covered in white fluffy stuff. His eyes hurt to even look because it was so bright. The sun was hidden behind a grey cloud filled sky and the air was crisp and cold. He could see his breath fog on the air as he breathed.

Austin remembered back to his childhood to a day with his parents and sister, Aaricia, when the two foals had gotten lost in the forest and stuck on some ice. Aaricia's legs had been too wobbly to hold her up and their father had to find them and rescue her. All Austin could do was look on, because he couldn't help her. Looking back, it was silly but at that time, so frightening.

He was much older now and definitely stronger, and able to stay away from icy patches. Snow on the other hand, he would just plow right through.

He hadn't been awake long, and felt his stomach growl from hunger. He set out to find some berries to eat or green bits still lingering on from the past season. After a short while he found some, and as he neared the bush his eye caught sight of another Soquili nearby. Being who he was, he couldn't just ignore the other Soquili and begin eating. He went over to say hello.

The white mare was out in the damn snow once more. She didn’t mind it, but it was beginning to be a bother. She of course had to come to these strange lands in the winter of all times. This was in fact a pain for her. She stopped when she heard the soft treading footsteps of another nearby. How could she pass up the opportunity to either strike up a friendship or just chat with someone else? She hadn’t met anyone here yet. It was a little annoying when you don’t have a friend in such a place. She turned and eyed the male who approached smiling warmly to him.

“Hello. It’s not a nice day to stand in the middle of nowhere to chat. Want to find some shelter or something?”

She asked the stallion with a playful grin before walking a little away from him.

“Plus I don’t want my hair to get all messy.”

She laughed.

As he neared her, she turned towards him and spoke first, very straightforward, something he liked in both mares and stallions alike. It was a good quality which showed they weren't afraid to meet new people.

"I would have to agree. It's very cold, and the wind blowing this snow doesn't make it any warmer. What's a lovely young mare like you doing out in the snow all alone anyway?" he asked, throwing on his biggest charming smile.

"Of course, I wouldn't want you to mess your hair either. I have that same problem," he said, still smiling, with a chuckle in his voice. "Though, I do believe I might have a harder time than you." he said, as he followed behind to wherever she might be leading.

"Where is this shelter you speak of?" he asked, looking around for somewhere that would shield them both from the elements while they chatted.

The white mare looked to the striped stallion with a smirk crossing her muzzle. He had gorgeous hair and was pretty nice looking in deed, but she wasn't looking. Only complimenting his looks in her head. "Well I suppose I'm looking for a home and I can't really stay in one place...no I like to wander too much. Call it curiosity if you want." She grinned as she looked to the stallion before trudging the snow under her heavy hoof.

"Hah my hair isn't going to get messy. Maybe my tail, but my mane just flops around. Not that serious trust me." She told him as she eyed his long slender hair making her a little envious to be honest, but she would get over it. "Your hair is gorgeous though. Very long and flowy. Suits you in an odd way." She said laughing a little before flicking her tail.

"Eh I don't exactly have a shelter in mind, but maybe there is one that we both can find? Four eyes are better then two are they not?" She grinned a little as he began to wander off away from him. "We should start looking in the woods." She gave a firm nod and in no way shape or form was she going to budge from that thought.

"This isn't the best weather to search for a home in, but as you said, four eyes are better than two."

He went in an opposite direction to look. He kept alert as his eyes scanned through the falling snow for a cave, an overhanging rockcliff, or somewhere where the ground wasn't white. There were patches of dirt still showing where the branches overhead were still covered in leaves or pine needles thick enough to shelter the ground below, but he couldn't trust that it would hold. He chuckled to himself at the thought that if someone did stand there, they could be assaulted by a big pile of snow at any moment. That's just the type of prank he would pull with his sister in the years past.

He pulled himself from his memory to focus on his task at hand. He wondered if she had any better luck. "Have you found anything yet?" he called, hoping she could still hear him from where she was.

His stomach grumbled again. He had all but forgotten about his search for food. That bush he had seen earlier called out to him, but he would go back for it once he had helped the mare.

"It's not, but I'm sure we will find something."

She gave a firm nod as he continued on looking for any possibly thing that could be a good shelter at least for the time being. But sadly nothing came into sight and that bothered her. Most of the time she could find something to even rest under for the night, but when it came to living in a place it was near impossible.

"No I don't see anything.."

She told him before turning her head to the stomach growl and shaking her head a bit.

"Have you ate anything? If not we can go look for something?"

She smiled before spotting what looked like a small cave in the distance.

"THERE!"

She shouted and trotted over to the little alcove. She really wanted to help him find food though if he was hungry. It was the least she could do since he helped her.

He frowned that she hadn't had any better luck, but was determined to keep looking, until her shout of excitement. Then he smiled wide and followed after her.
"Awesome. You found something," he said as he approached the little cave. "This looks cozy."

Her question made him smile, "Oh I'm fine. I was about to find something to eat though, if you want to join me, I definitely wouldn't mind the company of a pretty mare."

The compliment was definitely unexpected and she didn’t know what to really say to it other then give him a small smile. Maybe that was sufficient enough. “Yes and I think it would be perfect if you wanted to stay here for a good while.” She told him flicking her long tail and peeking into the cave. She wasn’t use to finding anyone anything and was quite happy she helped this stallion out. “I don’t know…I feel as though I intruded on you enough and I should take my leave” She said softly to the stallion feeing a little uneasy about hanging around him. She didn’t know why or what made her uncomfortable. Maybe it was the compliment.

“I am happy I found you a nice place to rest or live. It’s not everyday that I get to help someone.” She nodded keeping a close eye on the stallion. He wasn’t that bad to be around. Maybe she was just nervous. “So what will you do after you find some food?” She asked curiously with ears perking on top of her head.

Austin sensed a bit of tension from the mare. "Are you ok?" he asked. "I thought we were searching for somewhere for you to stay? Don't you like it anymore? I can go if you want. I don't want to intrude." He said, smiling at the mare. He looked out at the falling snow. "It seems to be letting up some at least. Maybe it won't be too cold on you here."

"Oh I'm not sure. Usually after I get my belly full I get sleepy so I find somewhere to nap, but I doubt I'll find enough to get my fill in this weather." Winter wasn't his favorite time of year, not now anyway. He used to enjoy the snow and ice when he was a foal. He and his sister Aaricia would go skating on the ice.
