Anyway, our current sketchbook assignment in my art class is to imitate a good/famous artist's style. I chose Alphonse Mucha.

I'm not quite sure it was the best move. It was definitely a challenge.

Critique anything and everything about this. Keep in mind that I'm not entirely sure that this is finished yet. Also, keep in mind that I may not be able to make many changes to this, as this is inked; however, I will use your critiques to better my future pieces.

Also, that hands look like crap, I know. I put a lot of detail in them and then decided to fill in the beads...and yeah I ruined them. Long sorry sort, I don't think that well at 1:00AM

Also, this scanned crooked. I think, either that or I'm too tired to tell the different. D:

Also, I hate her face. Really I do. I've gotten to used to working on 28 by 30 inch canvases that I don't think I can work too well on smaller canvases ( this less the half the size of a 9 by 12 inch bristol board. D: )

But excuses are excuses.

And question: should I color this, or continue to stipple?

The bottom of the piece is very pattern-heavy and the top is not, which causes a bit of an unbalance. I just recently did a piece after him and Salvador Dali, so there was a bit of text in mine. I went into word and picked a font I liked, got it to the size I wanted, printed it out, and then traced it onto the piece. This let me get the words centered as I wanted them to be, and I suggest you try it in the future. Finally, just work on anatomy in general. Photo references are your friend.

As an answer to your question, I think that the stipple looks absolutely fabulous and colour might detract from the piece over all. It might help, too, but then you have to risk messing up somehow.

Thank you very much. c:

And yeah, I will admit the anatomy is definitely not the strong point of this piece. I was just trying to portray Mucha's style more than anything. I think this is the first time that anatomy hasn't been the most important aspect in one of my pieces. Though, would exactly should I fix with her anatomy? (Disregarding the face, I hate the face.)

First off, I just want to say that this is really beautiful. I love the stippling, you don't see that alot on Gaia.

Generally, the feel isn't exactly art nouveau, it's pretty, and the techniques used are fantastic, but it just doesn't jump out at me as being 'art nouveau' it's actually more art deco.

I wouldn't color the whole thing, but a splash of one muted color would help heighten the art nouveau feel. Probably in the hair, that seems to be the norm.

Also, the arms. They are REALLY short. You can see it alot more on the one holding the cane-thing.
