His sister was napping with his parents, which meant that Azazel had free time on his hooves. While normally he would have curled up to guard his sister while she napped he had been spending all his time around the family lately, and he wanted to explore a little. He had to stretch his wings, examine the world around him; how could he keep an eye on his sister and keep her informed on the world at large if he didn't even know what was in it, after all? It was to this end that he slunk away from his family, wings half-furled at his sides, eyes alert for anything interesting in the scenery. He was a little hungry as well, truth be told, but not for the grass and berries that his family generally dined on.. however, he couldn't let them see what he would be up to. It wasn't right, hurting other creatures for his own gain, but... He glanced over his shoulder, a little guiltily, and then flicked his tail behind him. He was far enough away that his parents wouldn't notice; good. The hunt was clumsy, because he wasn't very good at it still and had no one to teach him, but after a bit of effort he had a meal that calmed the sharp, clawed pangs in his belly. He had to be careful to clean his face before he went home, but... Settling under the shade of a tree, he continued to work at his meal, eyes half-lidded while he listened for the sound of any others' approach.

She had been watching the foal and his family for some time now. Sneaking about, always watching but never being seen. Alti had come here when the rumors of an Kalona born to a non-Kalona had reached her. Normally she wouldn't care, but the description of the non-Kalona had been too close to that of her abandoned daughter to not investigate. And now she could see that the rumors were true. The boy did indeed look like a Kalona, however looks were not everything. No he needed to be Kalona in both body and mind for her to even bother with him.
This was her chance to see if he was indeed worthy of her time. The foal had wandered off from his family and so she followed, but at a far enough distance that he would not see her. Alti had wished to see just what the foal was up to before approaching. He could have been going to pick wild flowers or some other worthless task. However he was doing no such thing and that pleased her greatly. She could feel a smirk cross her lips as the foal hunted for his meal. He showed good potential in that field, potential that she could mold and twist until it suited her needs.
Alti waited until the foal laid down under a tree to eat his meal before making herself know. Slowly she slipped from the trees and moved towards him. Yellow eyes stared at him as she walked, critically judging his every move as well as his Kalona appearance. Those eyes of his made her smirk once more. She had slightly glowing eyes, but his glowed with an intensity that rivaled even hers. Now to find out what truly mattered. Did he hate like she did? Or did his mothers taint pass on to him making him useless? It would be a damn shame to have him share his mothers unworthiness, but if he did, well then she would have to kill him as well.
Bringing her hooves to a stop, Alti looked down upon the foal, tail flicked behind her. She did not speak, not she wanted to see his reaction to seeing another Kalona before talking. Would he flee in terror?

Finishing with his meal quickly and disposing of the remains was apparently not an option today.
When he'd first notice the approach of another, he'd been panicked for a moment; thinking it was someone from his family, he'd barely had time to consider hiding the evidence of his kill when his eyes registered an entirely unfamiliar mare. His shoulders relaxed, a little, though a wariness crept into his gaze as he watched her lightly, near silently, pick up her hooves and move toward him.
Then she stared. Others were doing that a lot lately. Others that looked like him, which was confusing and annoying; if they were like his parents, different, then he could understand, but all these creatures that resembled him staring? They had no right.
Temper jumped into his eyes and he rose, hooves ranged over the half-eaten carcass of his meal. He licked his chin, tipped his head down a bit so that he could look up still but having his horns exposed in case he needed to get violent. That last musclehead had attacked him, after all.
"What do you want?" he demanded.

Alti barked out a laugh at his demand. Perhaps he would be worth her time after all, though this could be just his initial response to all strangers so she would reserve her judgment until later. "My but you are the feisty one." Her voice was gruff, but it was always that way, even as a foal her voice had had a harshness to it. Of course she didn't mind, it made her overall appearance and demeanor blend together into a full concoction of evil. Imagine a ruthless Kalona with a soft sing-song voice, that would be utterly ridiculous.
"As for what I want, that is something I can only tell you once I deem you worthy." There was no point in laying out any of her plans to this foal if his temper was but a fleeting thing, so instead she would wait, test him and then tell him all if necessary. "Your hunting could use some work. Have your parents not shown you the proper way to do so yet?" Alti would not tell him at this moment that she knew who his parents were or that they would disapprove of his hunting and therefore be unable and unwilling to teach him. She would see how much he was willing to tell her before forcing it out of him.
Wings shifted slightly as she looked off into the distance, for a moment seeming uninterested in the foal before her. Really she just wanted to see if he would flee in her moment of inattentiveness or attack, perhaps he would stay neutral for now. It was but a test. Finally her eyes returned to him. "Tell me your name young one." Her tone was stern and commanding.

Azazel was unimpressed with the stranger before him, but unless he wanted to slink back to his family with blood on his muzzle, he had to deal with her before he went home. He was hardly going to run from a confrontation, because that simply wasn't in his character; he'd have to tolerate her company until she got bored or had enough of the wrong side of his tongue, and then he could clean himself and go home. Hopefully his parents wouldn't notice he was missing.
The criticism on his hunting made his ears flick back, mostly because it injured his pride. There was also the fact that he wasn't proud of his hunting, considered it his dirty little secret; his parents didn't hunt, and his sister didn't require the same nourishment as he did, so he had the idea that it was wrong. It made his stomach turn even as he knew it was necessary to fill it, because the nights where he didn't find prey were spent awake and fitfully tossing, hoping his stomach would stop shaking enough for him to sleep. It was lowering, it was... horrible. And his parents would be horrified if they knew.
Expression becoming more and more forbidding by the second, he watched her face carefully when she glanced away. It didn't occur to him to run -- he had been here first, for one, and that meant that if anyone was going to leave it would be her -- but Azazel had never learned to back down from any challenge. So, he sat, and when she looked back at him, his lips peeled back into a half-snarl.
"I'm not telling you anything." His tail flicked to and fro behind him, short, agitated swipes through the air. "And I'm not interested in what you have to say. Seems like you're just saying a lot of nothing, anyway," he added, giving her a critical look.
