The moon grinned side wise like the cheshire cat full of mischief and fun. Illuminating the land with a silver glaze. Leave lay in heaps brown and decaying as the day were growing darker and the nights colder. Snow blanketed the land and the trees hung most bare of all leaves allowing the moonlight to seep through everywhere.
An empty home had pushed one mare from her home. Interaction had pushed her to roam the forest. Already she had met one other, a stallion named Karloff he had not been who she aimed to find. Her friend Frosty had to be somewhere she only hoped to come across her friend in the forest. Though seeing her friend was not yet in the cards for her. Solemn and distant the shadowed mare was no where near ghost like in her walking like her mother. She made noise as she walked though by no means was she clumsy and loud in her stride.
Umbra quiet in contemplation was curios as to whom the night had in store for her to meet. Her tail flicked as she gazed up at the silver moon her form flickering in visibility. Her shadows curled off her body clam like a dying fire. From a distance she'd be hard to see and even close up she'd appear more a shadow then a mare actually there. Her armor was the only thing that would give away that she was no shadow.

Kamau had decided to go on a moonlit walk as he could not resit walking under the shadows of the moon. He was not a creature of darkness but who ever said fun loving creatures should not be able to enjoy the dark to? Everything was so different at night in the light of the moon the world took on a different point of view.
As he walked with no destination in mind he was thinking about some of his friends and how he wished he could spend time with them. His mind then shifted to the stubborn mare who he had met not to long ago and he shook his head wondering how she would make it far the way she was.
Tonight though he wondered if there was anything instore for him if he would meet someone a friend or even possibly a lover..He kept walking through the shadows till a glint of light caught his eye. He looked in the direction but all he saw was more shadows. He decided it was nothing but as he kept walking there was he glint again.
He wondered what that glint of light was so he turned and as catlike and silent as he could crept though the shadows to see if there was anything there.

A cool breeze drifted through the thinning trees and caused Umbras mane to shift in the wind, the cool breeze nipped at her skin but she'd grown accustomed to the cool air of winter up in the mountain home. She shifted crossing between the trees where shadows still clung hiding from the silver moon light. Beneath her hooves the leaves rustled.
She payed no mind to the approaching stallion that wasn't too far off. She began to hum an odd tune. It was fluid in its tune but changing like the shadows curling off her body. An up and down rhythm that in its own made a unique melody. Off on her own beat her memories of her father and missing mother were far from the front of her mind. It was almost like she was a filly again before she'd met her father.

Kamau approached very cautiously as it was night and who knew what might be ahead of him? He slowed to a stop as he started to hear a kind of chilling tune that sent shivers into him for some odd reason. This just made him want to know even more what was up ahead.
He shook his head and pushed his fears to the side and started to go forward again. Then he saw it it looked like a giant shadow that was glinting here and there. As he looked closer he could make out that is was a form of something blending in with the night. As he stepped forward he stepped on a twig with a loud CRACK he quickly backs up hoping the creature did not notice him.

With a shift in the breeze Umbra realized she wasn't alone. A large crack caused her to whip her head about toward the sound. Her voice was quiet like a whisper but it traveled well and would soundly and clearly reach anyone around when she spoke. Her shadows grew in intensity dimming the clarity of her armor but curling over and around. "Who is there?"
She moved further back into shadow to better hide herself quite cautious of her intruder. She felt no threat from her intruder but that was perhaps because she knew naught that it was a stallion. Her tail flicked as she stared over in the direction that the twig cracked waiting for her response.

Kamau knew whatever was up ahead had heard him as soon as he heard it speak. Then it got darker as the moon was covered by clouds and suddenly he could not even see the glints of light he had before. He knew he had to respond but he was in very dim light night and the shadows seemed to be growing.He shows no fear and calls out to the stranger
"I Kamau brave lion noble soul..It is i who is here but to whoever may be up ahead i mean you no harm"
He waits in the semi darkness for the thing to reply back to him hoping whatever it is wont attack him. His courage is unbreakable

Umbra shifted her hooves shuffling the leaves beneath her feet. Her intruder was male, it would have made the hair on the nape of her neck stand up had she not been in a moderately pleasant mood. She tilted her head and moved doing her best to remain in the shadows as she tired to get a better look at her company.
"Brave and noble." She nearly scoffed, stallions were untrustworthy. Not that she had much experience one bad time had ruined it for them all. She lifted her head held it high. He meant her no harm, at least not intentionally physically. "Words are ever fleeting and hollow, why should I trust a stallions word?"

Kamau standing in the half darkness was still wondering who he was facing but could not get a good luck at them but he was sure the voice he heard was that of a Mare.He had no more idea to of what breed she may be so he stayed cautious.
"Is there something wrong with that? Is being brave and noble a bad thing?" He has a questiong tone in his voice now wondering how this Mare will react to his further presence since he was not going anywhere.
He hears then the Mare asking why she should trust Stallions and the words that run though his head are "Because..Not all of us are bad not all of us make the same mistakes.." But he chooses not to say that incase it may set her off. He still is facing the unknown and will approach with care
"You should learn to trust others because..Well how far could you get if you have no trust in others? If you live in fear and hate of whatever happened you can never move on from there"

Umbra tilted her head again, he didn't know where she was to be exact. It excited her. She moved back her hooves once more rustling the leaves. "No there is nothing wrong with it. It's bold. You don't know though if it's a bad thing to be brave and noble in the face of potential danger." Her Shadows curled and blossomed in the dark, carefully covering her armor.
She tilted her head and her tangled tail and mane shifted in the breeze. "I can get by not trusting all others. I knows some I can trust. Doesn't mean I should trust you." She flicked her tail. A game sounded fun, she sighed softly, if she had her mothers uncanny ability to stealth fully slip across the land unheard like a ghost. "Besides you don't know what your talking about. I don't live in fear of anything."

Kamau and his good hearing pick up the rustle of leaves near by and he turns his head in that general direction knowing the mare is somewhere up there. It seems to be getting even darker and more shadows seem to be coming out. He cant help but wonder if the mare is making this happen. He has heard of others with powers beyond themselves
"I would never call it a bad thing..Bing a coward and running from your battles is worse then to die trying..It shows you have no spirit and no courage.."
He ponders what to say next choosing his words very carefully
"Well even if you can get by some by never trusting others..You will never know a good creature from a bad one if dont at least try and get to know them...You have no idea who i am as i have no idea who you are"
He walks a little closer wanting to at least glimpse who he is talking to if just for a moment but the darkness wont let him and he frowns deeply.
"You must be one of the ones no one would ever bother if you have no fear..You must like living the way you do but sometimes..That way is not the right way..Someday you may find yourself facing something and wish you had trusted someone in your life..Life is very unpredictable.."

Umbra laughed "There is nothing wrong knowing when it's best to flee from your opponent." She kicked at some leaves quite aware that he was able to hear the leaves and then tossed her head again. " No spirit, no courage. Ha its shows intelligence. It shows the ability to read a situation and tell your odd of success, and therefore a good business decision. "
She glimpses movement ahead of her and faintly sees the stallion. Once more larger then her. A definite downside to taking after her mother in size. Petite in stature she was smaller then all but flutters. She couldn't clearly see him the shadows growing in intensity made it difficult for her own eyes to see through, but she was certain that she could see better then he. "You know not how I live." She snorted. "Please I was out here searching for someone I trust." She flicked her tail and moved around as if circling him. "I know it's unpredictable. I learned it as a filly."

Kamau did agree with her that knowing that all odds were not in your favor it was not cowardly to flee. He had been there he had some things in his past he wished to forget and had till now.
"I agree with you on your point..When odds are not in your favor fleeing will not look cowardly because you know you are saving your own life"
He can tell she is toying with him playing when he hears kicked up leaves in yet another spot. He was hopping she did not have any plans to attack him as he knew ones who toyed could be very dangerous. He takes in her words and sees he was thinking on the same track as her.
"As i did say before it does affect your desicon and how you react to a problem..You wont be called a coward for running away from an impossible battle"
He starts to stare again wanting to still see who he is talking to but he still sees nothing but he does not grow angry or mad. He stays calm knowing that the moon will come out from the clouds at any time. He wishes to know who he is facing even more now knowing she is playing with him.
"I have no idea how you live i have no idea who you are or why your here..I know not your name and will not even try to claim i know your ways.."
He could never claim to know someones life when he had just met them. He knew nothing about this mare and what she could do..he had no idea how she even looked!
"Trust??Why wont you trust me? Do i look like someone who would hurt you? Do something to you? You cant even see me..How do you know you cant trust me? You wont ever know till you try"
He shakes his mane out rearing up for a moment as he was getting stiff for standing in the same spot for a while. He can tell they think the same on some things but differently on others
"Yes the world will always change..Its up to you to change with it...as the times and seasons pass you will change to..You learned the world is unpredictable..Have you done anything about that?"

Umbra frowned. Calm. All he was was Calm. Karloff had been demanding, and fun. He, he merely seemed to frustrate her in his calmness. It was as if she were no possible threat. She ground her teeth softly. Calm calm calm. All this calm, which she guessed came from him being brave. She glared in his direction and braved getting closer carefully choosing her footing to make the least amount of noise possible.
He agreed with her logic, part of her was pleased with it. Obviously logic worked with the stallion. However it frustrated her because it left her no extra room for fun or argument. It was no fun if there was no opposition. She felt like pouting. "First I can't trust you because your a stallion. Second your bigger then me. I don't trust those I can't look right in the eye." She tossed her mane and was pleased that she was finally close enough to see him. Though she was still shrouded with her shadows. "Tell me, what is there for me to do to fix the unpredictable? Hmm Tell what is there for me to do?

Kamau could finally see something up ahead a mass of shadows swirling around something smaller than he but it had no wings he could tell that..Now he knew she was not a kalona but she could still be a skinwalker as he cold not tell for sure.
He laughs for moment "Really? You cant trust me because im a stallion? What have they ever done to you? Is there something your past that is bugging you?? We all have things that bother us and sometimes you have to admit that.." He frowns now
"I dont know what there is to do with the unpredictable..But if you never try nothing will ever change..First off you should tell me your name and if you really care show yourself and stop hiding" He is starting to get bolder and try to make his move. He is breaking away from the calmness now starting to take a different approach

Umbra frowned at the stallion as he laughed at her. It irked her that he found her issues amusing. "What have they ever done to me he asks. Well mayhap you should have asked that before you decided to laugh at it." She felt like kicking him. The nerve of him. "Someone obviously hasn't ever really been on the receiving end of disownment. A shame and disgrace for being who he is."
Her tail whipped to the side, and she nearly stomped her foot as if she were a child but contained herself. He went from frustrating her at being calm, to being mad. Almost livid really. A bad button to push really though unintentional it may have been. "I have every reason to distrust males upon first sight my father rejected me, claimed he was not my father, for how could he ever sire a pathetic little mare like me. He felt my sister at least showed promise but I? I was pathetic and weak." Had it been possible her words would have been laced with vemon but all they held was malice.
Her jaw was clenched after her little speech, she looked away feeling slightly bad that she'd so angrily lashed out at him, but only slightly fore he had brought it upon himself she justified. "The world is always changing but it will always stay the same. " She rolled hers eyes and moved around to his side though she continued to keep her distance.
"Besides I feel no need to reveal myself, you are a stallion and I am protected here as I am, fore you cannot see me. I know this for certain, I am but a shadow of the night. " She moved away and circled about him once more. "I am but a shadow blending with the night, I could even be a hallucination, your mind merely playing a trick on you in the dark of the night"
