Kuno was a little bit nervous. The sun had started to set, and he was still wide awake. Granted, this wasn't the first time it had happened, but he had always done his best to fall asleep before the oncoming of the darkness. The little cub was a heavy enough sleeper that he could usually make it through the night, and wake up only to greet the sun.
Night time was not his time of day. Indeed, the cub couldn't see how it could be anybody's time of day. There were... things out there in the dark, things that went bump in the night, and they terrified him, to say the least.
The fact that he might very well die within the next few hours was not lost on Kuno as he sat and fidgeted at the mouth of the den. His tail twitched as he peered about him nervously. For now, at least, it seemed all clear. But he wasn't sure how long his good luck was going to last, and if it was indeed destined to run out, then he needed to find his good-luck charm, and hang on to it for as long as he possibly could.
The cub sprang to his feet and dashed outside.
