Haqikah was not impressed. At all. She wasn't the cleanliest of creatures when left to her own devices, but she expected better from her servants. The filth in the kitchen was off putting to say the least. The wealth the house, art and furniture represented was something out of the ordinary, that was for sure, but she was insulted by the way they had all been received tonight. A creeping doubt was nagging at her. Had this hound merely invited them here to show them what he had and they lacked? Was this appalling reception just a way to mock them for coming? She was still keeping her face under control, even if it was frozen in an aloof mask at the moment.

Hopefully this was all a misunderstanding, she thought as she wandered with the others towards the shed. The hound of the house might have run into some urgent business that needed tending to, and then trusted his slaves to receive the guests. He might be a lovely gentleman with some bad luck with his newest slaves. She didn't believe her own reasoning, but she hoped she was right.

Sands of War
As the hounds enter the garden they see a lone figure, surrounded by....gravestones. This is a garden of graves!

As you approach the figure steps forward into the moonlight, revealing a hound that is blind in one eye. The hound cocks his head and looks at you with its good eye.

"I see you looking at my eye," the hound muses rather quietly. "Everyone always does. Yes, yes I received this in a very trying battle with a lion." It chuckles slightly, "It has since become my favorite organ to work with."

Seeing the look of sheer disgust on your face the master's lip curls back slightly. "I have a very important job here." The hound jerks his head towards the stones surrounding him. "Would they be at peace without the likes of me? Who would deny me if I want to experiment ever so slightly before I lay thee to thine rest."

Suddenly shrugging the conversation off it says, "I hope you enjoyed visiting my humble home. Please keep me in mind when..." it smiles darkly, "The time comes for you to join the flowers in my garden."

Haqikah wasn't sure how to react and her jaw worked silently before she composed herself and shut her mouth with an audible click. The party died almost as soon as the master of the house revealed himself, and the guests started to drop off. "Guests" Ha! They had been invited and then paraded around in a large sinister house as if they were puppets paraded around for this unpleasant hounds enjoyment. His only redeeming quality was his apparent wealth, but even that failed to impress Haqikah in her current state. She was starting to get really pissed off, and a lady should never have to be pissed off.

It wasn't right, it wasn't proper and most importantly - it was decidedly unhealthy for the offending party. Her first impulse (after the chock started to wear off) was to slink off with the other hounds, but she needed to direct all her anger and frustration at something. Or someone.

"The least you could do," she said calmly, but very coldly, "Is to offer your name like a polite canine."

Bomani leaned against one of the old, stone grave markers and watched the hounds and felines that had gathered in his rather enchanting garden, his favorite place within his property. Not all of his invitations had been responded to, else there would have been more hounds that had shown up. He doubted their responses would have been any different, had they made the trip to his dear Prussia. The tan and white female, however, was surprising. Thus far, the others had drifted off, yet she approached him. This confused and pleased him, though he couldn't quite explain the mixed feelings, but he cracked a disarming smile and nodded his grizzled head.

"This unhappiness, it is very unbecoming of you, miss. Quite. A shame that you don't enjoy what my humble abode has to offer, especially as my garden is rather... Pleasant, if I do say so myself. Still, I am one to be courteous and my apologies for forgetting to introduce m
yself to you. Bomani is my name, my dear, of the Edelweiß Funeral Parlor. It's glorious here, I assure you." He chuckled lightly as he studied her rather lovely frame with his single eye.

Haqikah was not pleased with the situation, but her pride did not permit her to throw a unladylike (and surely very satisfying) fit after Bomani had pointed out her "unhappiness". So, this hound did know how to behave and how to use his words. A pity he hadn't showed it before most of the party fled.

"I'm Haqikah," she said, since it wouldn't be proper not to offer her own name in return at this point, "from Babylon."

She didn't have the name of a fancy establishment to add to her title and it irked her. It was tempting to start a business just for the added status, but it would have to be something else than a funeral parlor. From the looks of it Bomani ran a profitable business, but that could be from lack of competition. Who in their right mind would want to work with the dead after all?

"It might have been prudent to mention that this was to be a garden party in the invitation," she said, still cold but polite, "I would have worn my best shawl if I had known."

There was a bite to her words and, though he was well aware that such coldness ought to hamper his mood, the entire situation was almost humorous. Of course, it wasn't to her. Maybe that was why he was taking delight in it. It had been far too long since he had what could be considered a "normal" interaction with others of his own species and his behavior could only point to this even further. If he wanted guests more often, this certainly wasn't the proper way to go about making friends, but that thought never really crossed his mind as he spoke.

"Aha, yes, perhaps I should have included such things, but I assure you that you are quite... Lovely, yes. Shawl or no shawl." If it weren't for the brown splotches along her face and back, her pelt would be so pristine. Babylon, though... He doubted she would make her way this far after her passing, which was a bit of a shame, really. It wasn't as though he was hurting for business, though in the end. Other houds would come along, eventually.

Bomani had just given her a compliment, but Haqikah couldn't help but feeling slightly uneasy about the way he had said it. Oh, she was just being silly! It was ridiculous that she should let her imagination get the better of her just because the house, slaves and master were... ah... unusual.

"Thank you," she said as politely as she could, "You are quite handsome yourself."

Well, he was. Sort of. If it hadn't been for the mauled eye. And the unsettling red colour of the other. And the way he managed to send chills down her spine for no good reason at all. Still, she was a lady of good breeding and a compliment required a compliment in return. It was only polite. And he was a well to do hound judging from the size of his household. Since he had decided to be courteous now she couldn't very well lose face by acting like some ill mannered common hound.
