Ng'ombe bent her head to the water, lapping at the liquid delicately. Her silver eyes lifting to watch for hippo or alligators, knowing they hunted the shallows near the watering holes, especially at twilight.

The sun was finally setting, giving relief from the relentless heat of the day. The Acacia trees cast a beautiful silhouette against the stunning reds and golds of the slowly fading disk, causing the cheetahess to smile at its beauty.

Ng'ombe watched for a few minutes longer, her long tail curled primly over her front paws, posture straight and proud, the curve of her neck leading in an elegant line to her gracefully pointed ears. There was an air of peace about her, a serenity that could almost be felt.

Goodnight Mother, Father...I will see you in the morning. She thought silently to herself, as the last of the sun's rays disappeared under the horizon.

Kuari was flying high and slow searching the ground for a moving shadow. His friend and brother had asked him to search for a place to rest before they continued on so that was what Kuari had done. He had found a watering hole with trees nearby, one of Dar's favorite places to rest as well as Kuari's. But it was a distance away so it was close to twilight by the time Kuari spotted a dark shadow flowing across the grass in a ground eating lope. The dark colored bird let loose a piercing whistle then slowed his flight as much as he could, turning in a graceful arch and begin to wing back to the resting spot that he had discovered.

Dar'Ian said that he would travel in the same general direction that Kuari was going to look so he wasn't worried when his partner took longer then expected to find a spot to rest for a few hours until the dark of the night pasted but as the day got longer the lepon became a bit worried that he over shot his friend. That even then Kuari was looking for him a few miles back.

When the whistle split the air Dar looked to the sky and spotted Kuari turning and flying slightly to the right of his current path. He followed and in a short while saw where they were headed, a flash of water and a shadow of trees. With a smile Dar thought to himself, looks like a perfect spot to rest.

He came to the watering hole just as the last of the sun slipped behind the horizon. He saw Kuari coming in for a landing at the same time he spotted the light colored cheetah watching the sunset. Not entirely sure what to do Dar paused until Kuari came and settled silently on his back, he knew his friend would let him take point. With a discrete cough Dar stepped up to the water a safe distance away for both her comfort and his own. "Pardon if we are intruding."

Ng'ombe turned to look over her shoulder, clearly startled by the voice that seemed to come out of the shadows. Her eyes went wide, their thick, lovely lashes making their silver stand out in the gather dusk, as her ears flicked forward to pinpoint where the male voice had come from.

Barely seeing the outline of a dark shadow among the others, she bobbed her head as she gracefully rose to her feet. " Oh..no..your not intruding. I was just watching the sunset."

She was delicate of build, clearly made for the speed of which a Cheetah could reach, with a weightless way of standing. I watch it every night, no matter where I am at.

Kuari shifted slightly, his claws just barely digging into Dar's fur. He couldn't get a grip like he wanted without hurting his friend but then again standing like this was not meant to be something that lasted for a long time. With a slight whistle Kuari launched himself from Dar's shoulder to find a more comfy perch. He circled once then found a downed branch to land on his claws digging into the old wood.

Dar'Ian felt Kuari fly from his shoulder and he knew his friend would find a perch close by. He turned his attention back to the cheetah. "I'm glad and it was quite a sunset." He smiled and added. "Watching the sunset is a good way to wind down the day and it is always a good show to watch." Dar nodded to the fading colors and the blanket of stars that winked into existence as the light faded. "My name is Dar, Dar'Ian, buy the way and that," He nodded to the dark figure of Kuari, "is my friend Kuari."

Ng'ombe gave the other feline a shy smile, inclining her head gracefully to him, as she sat down, bringing her tail to curl over her front paws demurely.

" Very pleased to meet you Dar'Iam, and you friend Kuari. I am Ng'ombe." She lowered her lashes, causing delicate lacy shadows to dance around her silver eyes, " I haven't been in this area for very long, so I do not have a...place to shelter for the night. Please do not think me rude, but I should find somewhere soon. The evening is never a safe place for someone on their own."

Kuari nodded in acknowledgment to Ng'ombe's greeting. It didn't really occur to the bird to vocally return her greeting. It actually never occurred to him to really speak to strangers at all. He talked to Dar, he talked to his parents, but he didn't really feel the need to speak to others. Looks, moves, and the occasional whistle seemed to work just fine. Its not like he couldn't talk, just that he wouldn't.

Dar'Ian echoed Kuari's head nod but added, "It is nice to meet you Ng'ombe. I'm sorry if we are keeping you from finding a nights rest but if you dont mind me asking why not rest underneath those trees over there?" Dar gestured to the trees that were close by. They were in fact the trees that He and Kuari were planing on resting, for part of the night at least.

The lovely cheetah blushed, the color dusting her muzzle a lovely shade of rose, as she lowered her head, " Oh..well...I had thought you and your friend were staying there tonight. I wouldn't want to intrude or be a bother to you."

She looked back up, her silver colored eyes catching the rising light of the moon, causing them to shimmer slightly, " I can always find another place Dar'Ian, you and your companion need the space the trees provide. There are two of you and only one of me."

Dar'Ian smiled at Ng'ombe. "To be honest I do not mind sharing the space. Kuari and I are likely to sleep in the tree's themselves if they can handle our weight." Dar glanced at the trees. They looked large enough to support him. Kuari wasn't a issue, something the bird teased his wing brother about mercilessly.

Kuari whistled before taking off to check the trees out. Like Dar he preferred to spend the night in the trees and had no qualms about sharing shelter since Ng'ombe seemed like a nice enough feline. It didn't take him long to see that while the three trees were large only one could handle Dar's larger frame. He flew back to Dar to tell him what he found. After landing on the lepon's shoulder and whispering his news Kuari took to the air again. Why he disliked talking to others even he didn't really know.

Dar'Ian nodded as Kuari told him about the trees. Once the bird was back in the air he relayed the news to Ng'ombe, "Kuari says that there are plenty of trees for us to share. If you don't mind sharing of course."

Ng'ombe smiled gently, her eyes gleaming with admiration as the Avian took to the sky, " He is certainly a fine bird, his coloring is beautiful."

The soft rose blush returned to her delicate muzzle as Dar spoke, her tail flicking gently behind her, " I would truly enjoy the company, if you do not think I will be a burden. I haven't had anyone to visit with in a very long time."

She stood gracefully, still smiling, " Shall we walk that way Dar'ian?" her light voice was sweet and gentle, and she walked over to him, the blush still dusting her nose and cheeks.

Dar smiled, "Yeah Kuari is a great friend. Some times its like we are brothers and he has wings only because of a twist of fate." He watched as his friend flew lazily in the sky. He looked back at Ng'ombe when she spoke again. "Oh I'm sure you wont be a burden and even though Kuari isn't really a social creature I enjoy talking to others. Personally I think he just likes whistling."

Kuari heard Dar's comment and made a rude noise.

Dar made a face at the bird, "You know I'm right so hush you." The arguing had the friendly feel of something that was common between the friends. He turned his attention back to the cheetah and nodded, "Yes lets since the night is just beginning." He begain to stroll towards the trees as Kuari played in the wind currents.

N'gombe smiled up at the bird above them, " Well he is a handsome bird and a fine whistler." She looked sideways at the black male, another shy smile on her muzzle, she thought Kuari's flightless brother was handsome too, but she was to much of a lady to say so out loud.

" By all means, lead the way Dar, " the young female fell into step beside him, her tail moving lazily behind her, N'gombe had a feeling this was going to be a very good night indeed, with good company. How absolutely wonderful!
