Cat and Mouse {Li Ronen Xolani and Vidorun}

Snow had fallen earlier in the afternoon, blanketing the world in a pristine cover of white.

As the leggy filly danced and played, enjoying the nice weather to the fullest, her breath frosted in front of her nostrils. Eyes crossing she stared down her muzzle to watch the patterns it created.

“Hey mom, look at this.” She experimented with varying her breath, trying to create as many different variations as she could.

Zoey turned her head, trying to hide her sigh. She had the worst headache. Not that it was Ronen’s fault, never, but she just didn’t have it in her to deal with the filly’s flights of fancy. Perhaps Ronen might enjoy going off and playing on her own for even a little while.

“That’s nice baby girl.” She walked over and affectionately nudged the fast growing filly. “Hey Ro, did you know? In the forest, just a little ways in, there’s supposedly a shy monster…”

Ronen’s ears perked and she leaned closer, trying to catch every word. “This monster is said to grant wishes if it is captured. Why don’t you see if you can go find it?”

There was something fishy about it, but Ronen took the words to heart and followed her mother’s suggestion. That was how she ended up where she currently was.

At first it was exciting. Momma trusted her enough to let her go off and explore on her own, had in fact encouraged it. Her chest swelled as she pranced blithely along, not paying any attention to her surroundings. The only sounds she heard was the whisper of the wind through the bare trees and her hooves crunching in the snow. It was a little unnerving, but she was tough and could handle it, or so she thought.

But after long moments with that as her only company, she started to become nervous. She stopped and looked around. Now where was she again?

It startled her to find herself in an unfamiliar place.

“ I think I might be lost…” She murmured softly to herself.

Vid hummed to himself softly, glazed eyes moving to the rhythm in his head. Chain, his familiar, padded by him, the blood red bear almost as intimidating as the stallion with the stitched-up mouth. The two moved in unison, having been together since cub and basket respectively. And so, when they heard the whimper of a foal, their heads turned and the path was altered without a word. Chain looked at her partner, worried. Vid was in a calmer mood, yes....but there was no telling what could happen.

And so, it was a few moments later when the cerynei-mix and his familiar came ghosting out of the trees, stopping in front of the foal. Blood was fresh around Vid's stiches. Chain stood tall. Intimidating was one word. Terrifying was another.

The was the sharp snap of a twig somewhere off to her side. But as she had a rather well nurtured imagination, and was in a state of near panic, to the filly it sounded more like the snap of breaking bone. She froze, a small whimper escaping from her lips. A few calming breaths and she attempted to work up the nerve to look and see what it was. Eyes scrunched tight and face pointed towards the ground, she slowly turned in the direction the sound came from.

There's nothing dangerous, it's not gonna hurt me, it's nothing dangerous... the mantra ran through her mind. Slowly lifting her head to normal level, she steeled her nerves and cracked open an eye. The sight of a blood red bear was what greeted her first. She sighed internally. It was just a bear... so long as she did nothing to upset it, it would leave her alone, right? And so she opened her other eye and was able to take in more of the scene.

Eyes grew wide, and she felt faint when she took in the sight of the figure standing next to the bear. It was a twisted, creepy figure that looked like something straight out of her nightmares. The fresh dripping blood, the unusual melody he was humming... If she had been any less strong a filly, she would have fainted at the sight. As it was, she swayed a little unsteadily on her hooves.

"M-m-monster..." She stammered as she tried to back away.

Then her sitauation dawned on her. She was alone, lost in the woods, and there was a scary monster that looked like it would eat her. She scrunched her eyes tight. Hoping that if the monster was going to eat her, he would be quick about it.
