Hinote fidgeted as he looked at the basket at his hooves, wondering what had happened to his other child. He wasn't sure if Del'nal knew she had just birthed their children, seeing as she was as innocent as a child herself. He smiled fondly as he remembered how they met and how he had slowly fallen for the bright, pure mare, despite her coloring. He could only chuckle softly as he realized just how opposite he and his lifemate were. A mostly white colored stallion, he was reserved, calm, and quiet, and preferred to observe and watch everything around him, rather than talking and chattering on and on. His mate, Del'nal, was a dark-colored, boisterous mare who was obsessed with butterflies and talked non-stop. She was the one who had him talk more than he ever had in his entire lifetime.
"Hinote, if you're worried, I can look around for you..." The hawk perched on Hinote's back offered. A silent companion to the taciturn stallion, Soeru normally kept lookout for any dangers, and he had basically named himself guardian over Hinote's mate Del'nal, even though (he had to admit it) there were times he was quite irritated and tired of the mare's constant chattering for butterflies. Still, his companion's love for Del'nal forced Soeru to accept the fact that the mare was going to stay. Soeru had to keep himself from smirking as he thought about all the ways he could torture... er, tease... Hinote's mate. And then as he kept thinking, he realized he'd have to become a foal-sitter soon. Hinote was a father now, and Soeru suddenly wondered what he'd gotten himself into.
Hinote expressed an amused grin as he considered his familiar's proposal, and then shrugged. His mate was most likely nearby, and she had probably found their missing basket by now. After all, she probably thought they belonged to someone else... and he probably had to break it to her gently that she had birthed their offspring. He had to admit he dreaded dealing with that; after all, Del'nal was the type who, if she was extremely joyous, could also become alarmingly depressed and sad if he wasn't careful. Watching her as he had, he had come to the conclusion his mate was exactly like that; she expressed her emotions on her wings, making her easy to read as the nature expressing the changing of seasons.
"Do not bother yourself, Soeru," he finally answered, golden eyes gleaming with mischief. "You will worry yourself about them later on." Even though he couldn't see the hawk, he just knew that the bird had probably tried not to show its alarm. He could only shake with silent laughter as he waited for his beloved to return from her butterfly hunt. However, with the winter, it would be near impossible to find a butterfly, and even Flutters had issues with the winter. With barely any food around, it was a surprise he was holding out as much as he was, even with Del'nal. Well, he needed to find a warm place for his family soon, otherwise they wouldn't survive the cold weather at all, at this rate.
Soeru was slightly miffed at Hinote, but settled down after a bit as he realized it was going to happen eventually. Still, he couldn't believe Hinote was standing out in this weather waiting for his crazy mate. Soeru mumbled and grumbled as he tried to puff up his feathers to try and stay warm. He wasn't cold, per say, but he could feel the chill closer to the ground than he did in the air. Ah, such was his life...

Del'nal was bouncing around, looking high and low for butterflies but they were no where to be found. And this made her sad, but she still looked nonetheless. For she wouldn't find any if she didn't try! Her bells jingled as she bounced about, but then her eyes spotted something that just didn't seem right. It was roundish and white with some red and oh! It was a basket!
"Why hi there little basket, are you lost?" She asked the basket, oblivious to the fact that it was her own. Del never realized that she had been pregnant and given birth. "We should find you your parents!" Her face lit up in a smile as she lifted the basket up onto her back. "Oh paaaarents! Come out wherever you are! You forgot your basket!" Her voice called out loudly. "Oh little basket, I hope you like butterflies. They are so pretty! But I can't seem to find any, oh! Hinote can help!"
So off she went in search of Hinote...though she did get distracted along the way thinking she saw some butterflies. "I wish I could find some butterflies for you little basket, I think you'd like them." Her eyes kept peeled for the hidden creatures, as well as Hinote. "Hinooooteeee! Butterfliiiiies! Baskets paaaareeents! Come out come out wherever you are!" [/color]

Soeru blinked as he heard a familiar, if annoying, sing-song voice from nearby, and off he flew, in search of his new 'ward' as he sometimes like to call the owner of said voice. As he flew, he soon spotted the hard-to-not-see-in-the-snow figure of Hinote's mate. "Del'nal," he called, lowering slowly before landing on the mare's back. "Hm, I see you found the basket," he mused, spying the white-ish basket. "Hinote's nearby, why do you bring the basket to him? He'll be relieved to see it." Soeru was snickering to himself as he realized that Del'nal had no idea the basket was hers, but who was he to spoil the fun? Besides, he was Hinote's mouth more often than not, seeing as the stallion barely spoke for all his worth. "Follow me, Del'nal," the hawk explained and then took off into the air before floating down to a more reasonable level for Del'nal to follow him.
Hinote worried for a few moments when Soeru flew off, and then sighed as he saw a dark spot not too far off. Must be his mate, and hopefully with their missing basket. The foal must've bounced away from under his watch somehow, which was strange, seeing as he had only taken his eyes off for two seconds. Two! Well, no matter. He hoped the basket wasn't far. He perked up as Del'nal's bells and voice echoed over to him and he smothered a grin. Del'nal always knew how to make him smile no matter what mood he was in. It was part of the reason he loved her so dearly. She was a cheerful creature and represented happiness at its best, and dear Epona, did he love her. "Del'nal!" he called, for once raising the sound of his voice loud enough for his mate to hear him. He was more amused that she was still trying to find butterflies... of course. He chuckled softly, wondering if she'd had any success (he doubted it, however).

Del smiled as she saw the hawk. She knew it meant Hinote was nearby! "You're not the one I was looking for though." She had a small frown on her face but it quickly went away 'cause she knew the hawk would take her to the stallion. 'Why would he be relieved to see this basket? Does he know who it's parents are?" The starry mare pestered the hawk, her voice cheerful sounding. "I was afraid the basket was all alone...Hinote!" Her thought process was gone when she saw the pale stallion.
Away she bounded ahead of the hawk in her own little race to see who would get there first. "We're going to win little basket! I just know it!" Unfortuntly though, she never did see who technically won as she had to make a quick stop from slamming her head into Hinote's chest. "Hinote guess what! I found a basket! Do you know who it's parents are? I didn't find any butterflies though. Make them come out please?" Del took a deep breath of air and went to say more when she spotted the other basket.
"Why do you have a basket? Where'd it come from? Are we basket sitting for awhile? Do we know the parents?"

Hinote chuckled as Del'nal threw multiple questions at him as he smiled at Soeru in thanks. The hawk simply huffed as it settled on his back. He nuzzled Del'nal to calm her down as he wondered how to break the news to her. He sighed as he realized he probably should just answer her questions one by one. "Yes, I know who its parents are. I'm sorry, Del, I can't make them come out. I wish I could, just for you," he soothed. "This basket is the sibling of the basket you brought. It came from... well. I'll explain that later. No, we're not basket sitting, dear. And, yes, we know the parents. You already asked that," he chuckled, amused. Would Del'nal's joy fade if he told her the baskets were theirs? Would she think he lied to her if she didn't remember being pregnant? He was suddenly at a loss for words and not by his choice. He didn't know what to say, he realized, when it came down to answering his mate's questions. He eyed his familiar who apparently had decided to opt out of the entire discussion. He sighed. Even Soeru abandoned him in these difficult moments!
Soeru was highly amused as he "raced" Del'nal back to Hinote, making sure the basket Del'nal brought didn't come to too much harm. He knew Del'nal wouldn't hurt the basket, however, despite the fact that she was a naive innocent. Still, because she was naive, he wanted to make sure nothing bad happened to either mare or basket. Hinote would kill him if they came to any harm. He smirked to himself as he ignored Hinote's silent pleas for help. Hinote was completely on his own!

"We know the parents? Who are they? And the baskets are siblings? Really? If we aren't basket sitting then why do we have baskets? No butterflies at all?" Del'nal spoke quickly, as if almost she were trying to get everything out in one breath. But then she noticed was quiet and paused a moment. "Are you ok?" She nuzzled him gently, not wishing to see him so quiet and almost sad. The wind mare had no idea what was going on, but she knew that something was bothering the stallion.

Hinote frowned a moment before he tried to get his mate to calm down. "Del'nal..." he started off in a rather serious tone, and then stopped. How was he going to tell his mate? She was more interested in butterflies that were all asleep in this snowy season, and she probably... well, he'd have to tell her eventually. Somehow. But... he wasn't sure if she would take him seriously or not. She was just so... child-like, and probably didn't need this sort of news... but she had questions, and he had the answers.
Unfortunately.
He cleared his throat and then pawed the ground in a moment of nervousness. "Del'nal... Love, these baskets are... ours. They're our children." He inwardly winced. That was certainly putting it bluntly. Straightforward, even. He sighed to himself and mentally hoped Del'nal wouldn't go berserk on him. He wasn't sure what his mate was like when she was sad or angry. She was always so... joyful. And they needed to name the foals soon, too!
Soeru snickered to himself as he listened to Hinote try to tell Del'nal who exactly those baskets belonged to. Out of the corner of his sharp eyes, however, he nearly squawked in alarm. The baskets--they were wiggilng... and moving... rather alarmingly badly. Were the foals going to break through when the family hadn't found anywhere warm yet? He looked from his companion to the baskets and wasn't sure if he should interrupt to get Hinote's attention. This didn't bode well for the hawk. Soeru sighed as he came to a decision. As soon as Del'nal answered, he would interrupt and get Hinote to get the baskets to safety. Then he mentally groaned. He was already acting like a foal-sitter!

Del didn't understand what Hinote was saying. Their baskets? Our baskets? When did she have baskets? What was going on? She didn't understand at all. "O..o..ours?" She stuttered quietly. It was so much information to process. Especially since she had no idea she had been pregnant whatsoever. "B..b..but, how? I don't remember being pregnant? Or giving birth. If they are ours...I'm a horrible mother!" Her eyes started to tear up. In her panic she failed to notice the baskets shaking and shaking, and not hearing the small sounds of wicker ripping.

With a burst of wings, Soeru interrupted the soon-to-be parents. "Hey!" he about shouted, "The baskets! They're going to open!" The hawk flew around the top of both Soquilis' heads as he tried to get them to pay attention to the fiercely wiggling baskets. This is getting out of claw! He thought to himself, getting more worried.
Hinote tried to calm Del'nal down as she slowly burst into tears. "No, Del'nal, you're not a horrible mo--what!?" Interrupted by Soeru, Hinote looked at the baskets and nearly broke his usual calm facade when he saw that the baskets were indeed wriggling. "Del'nal!" he nearly barked out. "Quickly, grab one of the baskets! We have to find some place warm!" Grabbing the basket closest to him, he waited for Del'nal. The baskets were important, but so was his mate--he had a whole family to look out for now, after all! "Soeru, he ordered as he settled the basket securely on his back, using his wings to balance it, "find somewhere safe for my family!"
With a piercing 'caw!' Soeru flew high up as he used his sharp bird eyes to find somewhere his new 'family' could stay. Spying a cavern not too far off, he dove back down to the Wind Soquilis. "This way, Hinote!" With a flap of wings, he flew at a speed that allowed the horses to hurry but not so much they tripped as they walked. After all, the snow was rather deep today. I should've told him sooner! Soeru groaned to himself. Oh, well, let's just hurry to that cave I saw...
