Lately, we’ve had quite a few questions about what sort of technology and magic potential exists on the individual planets and stars floating about the void. Without further ado, here are the guidelines for having Technology in Space.
- The most technologically advanced planet was the Planet Mau, by virtue of them also having been the most ancient. That in mind, no other civilization in the cosmos matches them in technological prowess. So, If we say the Mauvians did not have it -- or ONLY the Mauvians had it -- you’re not going to find it on your homeworld.
This includes things like henshin pens, other devices involved in awakening or tracking senshi, and fast and efficient space travel (you can have SOME star trekkin,’ but it’s your wooden ships to their speedy steam liners).
Any tech that remains intact on your homeworld can only exist for the sake of exploring it. This means you can’t take any of it home with you, or use it to leave your star and go elsewhere. You also can’t have a Deus Ex Machina device secretly buried somewhere, that would just be silly.
There are no rules against aesthetic themes or power sources. Steampunk, dieselpunk, electricity, wind power, even magic -- as long as you’re following the rules with it, your homeworld can be powered by any source you like.
You do not have to have technology at all, if you don’t want it! Something to keep in mind is that while the Moon Kingdom/Silver Millennium was a very successful and expansive empire, they were not all that technologically advanced. Their warriors fought with swords and shields, the senshi being their elite warriors. So if you’d rather pick and choose which features of technology you’d like, feel free.
Be courteous in the same way you are with building characters. This means to not explicitly state that your civilization was the “best” at something, just like you wouldn’t state your character is.
