After everything was said and done, and the 'situation' was at least settled for the time being, Riyo was hauled back to her room... Where she'd been met by Tim and emptiness.
Mitsu hadn't been there.
And Riyo couldn't leave. She'd been sentenced to 'bed rest'.
More like an asylum really. She'd been left to her own devices after something horrific... And to say she was coping well would be a severe overstatement.
A day passed... And then two. Laying in bed was too stationary... When the body wasn't moving, the mind started ticking.
She'd been moving around the room all day, and found she was most comfortable with her legs against the wall and her back to the floor.
"So Tim." Riyo started, looking over at the small kitten. "What was your mother like?" She asked the kitten, half-expecting the kitten to answer.
"Mine? Lets just say she had a few screws loose."

Tim didn't answer to much as he played with her hair strewn about the floor. He batted at a piece before rolling around in her golden locks, content to just be near Riyo. The fact that she was upset didn't seem to register with the small creature. Or maybe it did and this was his way to taking her mind off it.
Finally back after a long and agonizing trip, Mitsu shuffled the dufflebag of stuff over her shoulder. Normally time away from school was supposed to be relaxing, but it had honestly been hell. She had come home to an empty house full of broken things. Pictures had been scattered, a coffee table and end table had been broken to pieces, furniture was overturned, and there was a mess of leaves from the door being left open. The police had already investigated the scene but had turned up nothing as far as who was responsible. All they could tell her was it was like her brother had been spirited away.
And now here she was, back at school, ready to go back to an empty dorm room. The thought nearly made her sick, she already felt alone and now one more person was gone. They kept disappearing, slipping through her fingers.
With a heavy sigh she headed inside, slow steps taking her to the dorm. Once to her room she hesitated, hand hovering over the door knob. When she finally seemed to brace herself with the fact that half the room was going to be empty she pushed the door open slowly, eyes downcast to the floor. Maybe Tim was still there? Though she couldn't imagine Riyo would have-
But her vision took in a sight she hadn't expected. The room looked very much the same, Riyo's bed sheets still in place. Was it...an illusion? Taking a step into the room her wide crimson eyes finally laid sights on Riyo on the floor, Tim playing with her hair. She looked to be in complete disbelief. "Y...you're....still here." She couldn't fight back the tears as they started to gather in her wide eyes and spill over and down her cheeks.

"I like it when people play with my hair, Tim. Though I'd never say it out loud to another person..." She quietly mused, her hands coming to rest on her still sensitive stomach.
Riyo's ears immediately perked up at the sound of the door opening. It was probably someone bringing her food, so she continued to stare at the ceiling.
Until she heard the voice. Almost immediately she sat up to look over, her eyes wide. "Mitsu... Where have you been?" She asked softly, frowning at seeing the girls tears. Nobody had told her anything, since everybody she talked to didn't seem to know.
She'd been worried that the girl wasn't going to come back...
"I've... Been worried about you." Riyo reluctantly admitted as she shuffled to her feet. Taking the few steps forward, she opened her arms in case the girl wanted a hug. It certainly looked like she did.

"I thought...." The bag slipped off her shoulder and hit the ground as she moved a little closer her arms wrapping around Riyo to hug her. "I thought you would be gone." The tears kept coming as she clung to Riyo's shirt. "I thought I would be alone."
As for where she had been it only seemed to make Mitsu cry all the more. She had done a fair amount of crying over the last couple of days but it didn't seem like there was an end in sight. "I...I went home. To get my things..." She finally said, pulling back slightly so that she could wipe at her eyes. "How are you still here? Did your mom change her mind?"

Riyo wasn't really one for this touchy feelie stuff... But... It felt so good after being alone for the past few days. To feel another person embracing her.
This whole time Mitsu had thought she'd be coming back to an empty room... It was a sad thought, but why had she left in the first place?
Riyo had been about to ask, but Mitsu had her own questions.
Slowly pulling back from the girl, she looked at the floor. "In a way." Riyo started,
"She's in jail now... Facing charges of attempted murder and child abuse." Her voice didn't sound sad... But melancholy. It was a bittersweet thing, really. While Riyo would never have to go home to hell again... She didn't have a home anymore. "Since I don't know where my father is, this is the only place I have to go..." The lack of a home... Didn't bother her that much. But this home. The one that she actually wanted to keep... Was compromised by the fact that nobody was paying her tuition now. "So. I won't be going anywhere..."

Mitsu's red eyes widened hearing Riyo's story. Her mother was in jail? For murder and child abuse? "I'm sorry, Riyo." Sorry for different reasons though the girl didn't seem as bothered as Mitsu would have imagined. But Riyo didn't have much of a home to go to either. Mitsu could understand that though for different reasons. "B..but I will be here too." She tried to smile reassuringly but the gesture completely failed. "So we'll have each other right?" Because Mitsu still felt like her friends were slipping through her fingers. She had managed to hold on to one she thought she had lost, but for how long?

'It's alright. Things are better this way." Riyo assured, forcing herself to smile as Mitsu pointed out that they'd have each other. "Yeah. We have each other..." Moving back to her bed and sitting down, she looked back up at the girl. "Mitsu... When I first saw you, I really didn't think we'd be friends... But... You're the best friend I've ever had, and nobody could ever make me leave you now."
Glancing down at Tim, her mind wandered and seemed to come up with an idea. "I tell you what. There's still some spending money in my wallet. Why don't you let me take you somewhere nice tomorrow to at least get us on the right track to not feeling like s**t?"

Following behind Riyo, sniffling back her tears, Mitsu took a seat beside the feline not wanting to be apart from her. She didn't usually venture to sit on the other girl's bed, but boundaries at the moment really didn't cross her mind. Picking Tim up off the floor as he approached, Mitsu wiped at her eyes again. Should she tell Riyo about her brother? It didn't seem like the greatest of times since the girl was going through a trauma herself.
"S...sure. As long as you let me pay for stuff too..." She looked like she was still fighting back the urge to cry again, reaching out to grab Riyo's hand. "I'm really glad you're here, Riyo."
Tim gave a little meow, rubbing up against Mitsu after he had been set in her lap. Turning to Riyo with interest he pawed at her arm as if trying to get her attention.

Riyo didn't really mind that Mitsu invited herself over. In fact, she barely noticed. The girl needed comfort, and frankly, Riyo needed comfort too.
"Alright, it's a deal." Riyo agreed, taking Mitsu's hand and squeezing it. It was odd... Being supportive like this... But knowing that it was helping the girl even a little bit... Meant that it was worth it. "Right back at you, Mitsu."
Looking down at Tim as he brought attention to himself, Riyo brought up her free hand to scratch the growing kitten under the chin. "We'll pick you up something too, Tim."

Mitsu fell silent as she watched Tim hop about her lap and onto Riyo's. He was already starting to gain some size, he was no longer the runt of a kitty Riyo had brought home, though he still limped around a great deal. Patting the kitten on the head Mitsu couldn't help but stare at the stuff she was going to have to unpack eventually.

The next day Mitsu found herself in town with Riyo. Her expression hadn't changed much from the night before other than the fact her eyes were dry. Trying to put effort into a least feeling better since Riyo had suggested it, Mitsu's eyes scanned the area for something to do. "So what did you have in mind?"

What did Riyo have in mind? Anything they hadn't done with Klyde and Desmond already... Which left very little to find. "I figured we could go see some cartoon movie then eat fast food. Maybe stop by the pet store and get something for Tim... Though if there's anything you'd like to do, I'd be happy to oblige." Honestly, Riyo didn't look too chipper either... But she was doing her best to at least be civil for Mitsu. She figured if she kept a level head, Mitsu would have an easier time doing the same.

Mitsu tried to think of other things to do. She had heard of a couple of things that had sounded interesting some time ago. "I like the movie idea," Mitsu said softly. It would help keep her mind off of things for a little while. "There's supposed to be a Flea Market, I think, on the edge of the park." At least that's where she remembered hearing it was. "Or there's a science center museum on the edge of town....I think they are supposed to have a pirate exhibit." She continued to think as they walked.
"Are you hungry? We can eat first?" Mitsu offered. She was at least glad to have Riyo's company but she still felt on edge about everything that had happened. It was a bit overwhelming to go over the details and no doubt it was the same for Riyo.

Hah. Flea markets. That sounded like the exact opposite place Klyde and Desmond would go. Perfect. And a science museum? That was too thought-provoking for Klyde...
Then why did it make her sad to think about it?
As Mitsu asked her a question, she only half heard it... But realized what the girl had said after a moment of blankness. "Ah. Yeah. Lets go get something to eat. We'll make it something cheap." Because they'd never go there with Klyde and Desmond...
"There's a Burger King up here if you don't mind that." Riyo suggested, pointing to the sign just up ahead.

Mitsu couldn't help but notice the sad expression after she mentioned a couple of things. Well, at least a sadder expression, Riyo seemed to be just about as happy as her today. Turning to look in the direction indicated, Mitsu gave a nod. "That's fine." They never would have eaten there with the vampires would they?
Reaching out for Riyo's hand almost subconsciously, Mitsu started to head in that direction. As much as she wanted to break down and cry Riyo was in a bad situation too. She had to do her best to cheer Riyo up as well and that could only happen if she didn't break down.
Once they were nearly at the restaurant, a small group of guys across the street started to call out to them. Mitsu hadn't paid attention to it at first, focused on reaching their destination, but when they started to cross the street toward them her attention was diverted.
"You seem to be in a hurry," One of the boys said as he approached. They all appeared older, possibly college students.
"Those faces say you've had a bad day," Another boy spoke up, "Why don't you let me and my friends cheer you up and show you a good time?"
Mitsu's eyes widened slightly but she shook her head as she tried to continue on, "N...no thank you." But the first boy to approach got in her path.
"Don't be so quick to run away. We're wanting to do you both a favor." He grinned.

The second Mitsu's hand touched hers, Riyo squeezed it as if something might pull them apart.
And then the sounds of cat calls caught her ears.
Why? Why always at the worst times? Her theory of some malevolent god using their misery for entertainment seemed less and less far fetched by the day.
"Hey there kitty cat." One of the men said, obviously some kind of pretentious jock with his ball cap turned sideways and light pink polo shirt. It made Riyo cringe just looking at it. They just couldn't be creative with names, could they? "Why don't we take that frown away? But first we can take those clothes of yours."
Riyo paused for a second, quietly glancing over to Mitsu who seemed distressed.
Today was not the day to ******** with her. Literally or figuratively. Her eyes turned from sad to pissed with the flip of a coin. She didn't have any witty combacks or sarcastic remarks. Gently letting go of Mitsu's hand, it immediately balled up into a fist.
"Hey, you're not saying no. I think-" And that's when a fist met the side of his face.
