((OOC: figured we'd use an excuse to 'find' our SS shop flits. <3))

"Hey, you're tall." Could arguably be construed as a potentially insulting conversation opener, even from another candidate, but considering it was Sammis, who wasn't exactly known for his own height, perhaps it was understandable. "I could use a hand." He continued, launching into an explanation of why Vessali's height was significant to him, pointing vaguely in the direction of the beaches. "I think I found an place where a fire-lizard might have nested, but it's too high up for me to reach. That's where you come in."

He raised his eyebrows and flashed Vessali a broad grin that promised some combination of trouble and adventure, in what proportions it was hard to say.

The rocks were steep, and didn't look like they offered promising hand holds, and thus he'd sought out the tallest person he could think of that might actually be drawn into the idea. Vessali, who's assistance, he reasoned, was considerably preferable to climbing up a rock face and walking away with skinned knees and knuckles.

Vessali had been called worse than "tall" in his life. He'd rarely been called anything more true, because, well. He was tall, and couldn't do much to change that other than lop himself off at the knees. Not an option. It amused him when people pointed it out, though, as though he hadn't noticed.

So he grinned back and fell in step. "Long as you don't expect me to have you stand on my shoulders for a 'mark or anything." Though he probably could have managed. If Vessali was tall, then Sammis, well, wasn't.

"How did you find this place if you can't reach it? Couldn't be easy to see, either." Flits, devious little things, didn't tend to build their nests right out in the open where anyone could see. Not unless they were dim or exceptionally proud of the clutch they laid.

"I saw a flit who kept circling by the area, so I figured there has to be something up there." He pantomimed the path of a flit circling out and back to where he'd seen it as he walked.
"I figure at the worse case, maybe we find what it was eating, or a bunch of empty shells, right?" He suggested. "I mean there's worse ways to spend an free hour..." He offered, tossing out further lures, just in case it was necessary.

"Shouldn't take too long, I don't think." He shrugged, referring to the length of time he'd need hefted up. "I mean I don't think so. Depends how deep they buried things and how big the ledge is."

Vessali was already in for the trip. He was curious now to see just what a flit might have been doing wherever they were going. "They might just be stashing something, too, you know? Some of them do that. Find a nice place they like that they think no one can get to, and start stowing shiny things there. I found a nice pair of earrings like that, once." Not for himself, of course.

"Well, I'll let you know if my legs are going to give out or something." That hadn't happened that he could remember, so it wasn't really a danger, but best to be on the safe side.

"Well that would still be something interesting, right?" Sammis pointed out. He debated briefly if his mother would wear earrings, if they found them, since he didn't have a girl he was chasing, and decided that the answer was probably a resounding no. It was sort of difficult to picture her in delicate things like earrings.

"Nice earrings?" he asked, wondering who Vessali had given them to. "...Next we'll find out the whole thing was actually set up by some fiendishly clever flit just to watch us both fall over." He added, snorting a little at his own joke. He personally wasn't terribly convinced of the intelligence of most flits, they were interesting, sometimes fun, but he couldn't imagine wanting to own flocks of them, as some people supposedly did, though not around here.

"It'd be something," Vessali agreed. "And they were nice enough. Cleaned them up and gave them to my mum." He didn't have any other girls he'd give something like that to. Just the thought made his stomach a little jumpy. Nope, he'd stick to random gifts for his mother, thanks. "She's not always much for pretty things like that, but she thought those were nice."

He laughed as he paced along. "If we both fall over, I guess it'll earn that laugh, then." He wasn't planning on toppling. And he doubted a flit thought much beyond where it might find its next meal.

"Well if we get earrings again your mother can have those too." Sammis promised. "My mother would be more likely to put them on her Wher for a laugh... That would kind of be a waste."

He pointed ahead of them toward an place where the beach and mainland had formed a series of narrow ledges, and a steep face too tall for Sammis himself to easily reach from either above or below.

"See, it's right up there. I don't see her now, but that's where she was."

How many pairs of earrings did one woman need, really? Still, the offer was generous, he supposed. Wasn't that was sharing was all about? "I think mum's wher would just eat them if she tried to pass them on. And then complain about how bad they tasted, probably," Vessali said. Not that he could blame the beast. He'd resent being fed jewelry too.

Vessali looked where Sammis pointed and immediately started looking for things that would make it easier for the other boy to get up. "Did you see her carrying anything?" Spiderlings or the like would feed babies, after all. Brow furrowed, he added, "Gonna have to be you that goes up, for sure. Don't think those things would hold me."

"N-not when I saw her." Sammis trailed the first word out in consideration, searching his memory as he spoke. "So I'm kind of hoping it's eggs, or a stash, instead of flit-food."

He eyed the area with a thoughtful squint. "Yeahhh. You're sure you're up for this?" He asked, shrugging as he offered the other boy an excuse to get out of things.

"I'm just hoping that no tunnel snakes found it between now and when I was last here." He admitted. "There's been so many nasty rumors about them I really don't want to come nose to nose with one."

A stash would definitely be more fun to find than a pile of moldering food a flit had tucked away. Or eggs, for that matter. Though: "What'll we do if it is eggs?" He'd been sent out often enough to help smash nests when there were too many flits around. He didn't enjoy it, but people had to eat first, didn't they? "Would you keep one?"

Tunnelsnakes. Vessali didn't really want to run into any of those, either. He eyed the sheer wall they were approaching and shook his head a little. "Shouldn't be any up there." Well. Unless, of course, there were eggs and they'd worked their way up to eat the eggs. "Hope there aren't, anyway."

"Might." Sammis admitted, with a slightly guilty shrug. "I mean it'll be good practice for finding the nests anyway... also it would be kind of interesting to see if a flit could be trained to try and help find other flit nests..."

He wasn't sure if a flit could be coaxed to do that, not since most of the eggs they found would be destroyed, but it seemed like one of those things where you didn't know unless you tried. Maybe with sufficient bribery.

"How about you?" He asked. "What would you do?"
