Omari yawned as he woke up from a rather pleasant nap and stretched his way up until he was standing. There many cubs around, sleeping and playing, as well as wenches keeping close eye on the little devils. He could hear the sound of the waves, the seabirds and the wind but also a lion singing in the distance and Omari’s head turned to face that last sound – it did not take long for the cub to start humming the catchy tune though he was suddenly silenced by a most unfortunate – though not entirely unexpected – realization.

Zamora had once again vanished into thin air again and it seemed one of the wenches had already left to look for her. If she were found, his sister would probably suffer some form of punishment and while Omari was not completely against it (if such punishment had been proven effective before) the cub was far more worried about all the kinds of trouble that Zamora could – and definitely would – get herself into.

He signed and dropped to a crouch, sliding past the watchful eyes of a particularly tenacious wench who had probably figured out his intentions the minute he’d turned around. Or perhaps it just felt that way. The cub managed to silently crawl his way out of the den area and walked slowly alongside the coast, watching the waves crash into the sand and hoping he was going the right way.

Omari found Zamora beside a tidal pool, crouching almost motionless, the tip of her tail barely twitching as she watched with intent crimson eyes what ever it was she was stalking. The young cub could focus on something with a surprising single mindedness that bordered on scary.

One ear flicked forward as she heard the soft paw falls of her 'older' brother, and she offered a sweep of her tail as a silent hello, her attention still on the tidal pool.

She'd gone and rolled in the dun colored sand on the beach head again, dulling the bright white of her fur. Zamora always seemed to be covered in the stuff. It brought no end of exasperation to the Wenches unfortunate enough to have drawn the duty of giving the cub a bath.

Zamora inched forward a little more, the very tip of her tail beginning to lash back and forth a little faster. The whatever- it -was that she was hunting was about to get pounced if her body language was any indication.

Omari sighed quietly under his breath, somewhat annoyed that his sister didn’t even bother to greet him properly but mostly just relieved to have been one to find her before any of the wenches. He stood a little straighter, trying to move his head to the side in order to catch a glimpse of Zamora’s target.

He couldn’t see anything but Omari trusted his sister enough - perhaps mistakenly - not to attack anything too dangerous or poisonous so the blue-eyed cub sat as silently as he could, watching his sister’s muscles move under her skin as she prepared a pounce. Hopefully she was just practicing, going after a leaf or an invisible prey. Knowing Zamora though, he seriously doubted it and the little cub wasn’t about to ruin her “hunt”, knowing full well the implication of such an action. Omari wanted his sister to cooperate and return to the caves with him, not become confrontational from the very beginning.

Zamora's body tensed for just a second before she exploded into motion. It wasn't the most graceful of pounces, it lacked the refined movements of the Wenches when they hunted, but it wasn't half bad either.

She landed in the shallow pool with a splash, her paw darting out and sending another wave of sea water right toward Omari, followed by a silver and pink juvenile Coral Fish. Zamora may not have had great aim in the initial pounce, but it was dead on with the water and fish, both in serious danger of smacking the male cub full in the face.

Zamora was far to pleased with herself to be concerned that her snack might end up as part of her brother's fur and hauled her self out of the tide pool, shaking out the water from her coat, which was now not only sandy..but soaked.

"Got it!" She smiled happily at Omari, her tail curled over her back with pride.

“I got it too, apparently.” Omari answered with a less than humorous expression, shaking the water from his head as he glanced at the small fish that was wiggling on the sand at his paws, tiny mouth opening and closing as if he were gasping for air. The blue-eyed cub supposed he should compliment his sister on her successful hunt but his dripping head and chest told him otherwise and even if her blissful expression did manage to subdue him considerably, he wasn't about to play nice that easily.

“Out on your own again, huh? Well...?” Omari spoke absent-mindedly, eyes still fixed on the little struggling fish that had hit him in the face just a few seconds before. “You can’t just leave it here. You have to kill it or throw it back to the water.” He wasn’t that interested in what she’d chose though it did seem a bit of a waste to take a life for such a small amount of meat.

“There is at least one wench looking for you.” He informed her at last though he suspected Zamora wouldn’t really care about it.

She placed a small paw on her fish, crushing it and putting it out of its suffering, " Did you want some Omori? I don't mind sharing with you."

The little lioness began to neatly divide the fish just in case he said yes. Zamora gave a snort at the news of being looked for, the tone of her voice filled with annoyance, as she bent down to snap up her half of the snack, " Really? I'm surprised any one of them has enough between their ears to figure out I've been gone for a couple of hours." She nibbled on the meat for a moment before bursting out with her typical display of temper.

" God of the Oceans, but they drive me crazy," she snarled, her voice almost mimicking perfectly one of the main Wenches who had the unfortunate duty to look after Zamora most often," Zamora, don't slink, lionesses don't slink. Zamora, keep your fur clean, how will the males find you pleasing if your dirty, Zamora do not growl, Zamora don't, Zamora stop it..Zamora...GAH! She's driving me mad Omori."

His sister threw her paws up in frustration, " If a lioness can hunt prey and bring down a zebra, why in the seven seas can't she bring down another lion on a raid? Mother can do it...why can't i?"

“No, thank you. You caught it, it’s yours.” he said calmly and yawned, making himself a little more comfortable. “A couple of hours…? It seems they just noticed.”

He looked a little surprised now. Honestly, the wenches should’ve noticed sooner. It was their job to look after Zamora and by now they should be more than aware of her tendency to have these little escapades. Keeping a close eye on his sister was not his job and he often found himself wondering why he did it. He was slightly taken aback by the sudden rant not really for its fierceness – he was, after all, used to Zamora’s temper – but for its contents.

“Most girls are going to be wenches… that’s why they teach you that stuff. But yeah, she’s annoying.” Omari tried be comforting but he wasn’t really sure how to do it and he mostly just wanted to calm his sister enough that she would go back on her own accord. But he could definitely relate to what she was saying. Not really the part about joining a crew, that was already something everyone assumed he’d do just like any other male cub in the pride. But Omari liked his space – he was actually very protective of it - and was very much against being bothered for any reason whatsoever. Having a wench after him like that would make anyone go crazy. “You want to be part of a crew? I thought… Well, I knew you didn’t want to be a wench but I thought you just wanted to be a hunter or something.”

Zamora rolled her crimson eyes at him and snapped up the rest of the fish, talking with her mouth full, " OH plezzzz Omri, who else is gonna look after mum? You're gonna be off gallivanting with the Commodore, and so is Skylar and Cortez. Someone has to keep an eye on her. I mean really, are you gonna want to?"

The cub eyed her brother, her tail lashing back and forth as she finished swallowing her snack, " Besides, I'm not cut out to be a Wench, I'd..I'd end up stuffing some of the fermented fruit up a male's nose if he so much as laid one claw on me..." she huffed, letting out a low growl, the hair on the back of her neck standing up in fuzzy tuffs, " AND you better not grow up to be a grabby male or I'll bite your tail off."

“No, not me.” Though he greatly respected Makena, Omari never did feel the need to stay close to his mother and protect her. She seemed naïve at times but she was also tough and part of a crew which meant that her qualities had been spotted by the right lions. No, Omari didn’t really worry about their mother. His sister, however, was an entirely different thing.

“No one would lay a claw on you.” The little cub looked momentarily angry but any traces of the emotion vanished just as quickly as they had appeared and he forced a smile. He figured this was why he liked to spend time with Zamora. She broke all the rules and did her thing despite what everyone told her, plainly refusing the role of the wench that was reserved for most girls. “But if you became a hunter you could just leave to get prey or fruit when you didn’t feel like being bothered.”

“It’s not easier for girls to join a crew. But mom did it. You can, too.” He wasn’t entirely sure he liked the idea of having his sister fighting other lions during brutal raids but somehow it bothered him a lot less of having her become a flirty wench. “But you can get hurt... are you sure you want to be out there?”

Because he wasn’t. Omari didn’t feel the allure of the rogue lands, or the call for battle or even the excitement of a successful theft. Mostly, he just wanted to be left alone to live in peace and while he knew that come adolescence, the males would come for the young lions, Omari wasn’t all that keen on being taken away to join crew. Which is why Zamora’s wish was as fascinating as it was surprising. Had the gender roles in the pride been looser, Omari figured he would probably just aim to become a hunter. As it were, he had already resigned himself to his fate.

“Pfff. Me?” Why would he become a “grabby male”? Why would he want to grab a female, anyway? The cub snorted and then chuckled, rolling to the side and narrowing his eyes contently as he felt the warm sand on this coat. “As if.”

Zamora sat down next to her brother, her crimson eyes looking out toward the sea, her tail coming to loop around her paws, " I'd rather get hurt fighting then get hurt because some grabby male pissed me off and I bit him." The young cub hunched her shoulders a bit, " Sometimes I...I get the feeling some of the wenches don't want to be there, and I dun know why the males are grabby, but the Wenches all talk about it."

She lifted her head and looked at Omari, " How do you know would lay a claw on me Omari? That old sea hag keeps tellin me I'm going to grow up to be beautiful and that....that I'm sure to catch a Captain's eye." Zamora expression suddenly became that of a scared cub, and she laid down, her head on her paws, " and...and that if I behave, I'll be given trinkets. I think catching a Captain's eye means he's gonna be grabby."

The little lioness sniffed, and hid her head, " That's why I misbehave so much...cause she said if I behaved..it would happen." Her voice was low, barely a whisper from between her paws.

For a few long moments Omari was too shocked to speak. He had always assumed Zamora looked for trouble because… well, she was troublesome. He’d never really thought of asking why she did things or what she was thinking at any given time - most of the times he didn’t even remember that all his siblings had thoughts of their own. Wow, that was pretty egocentric of him, wasn’t it? In all honesty, he wished he hadn’t been told about the things that bothered his sister. The little cub hadn’t expected Zamora to be concerned over something that was actually important especially when there was nothing he could actually do about it.

When she sniffed, Omari looked nothing short of horrified and the cub felt a shiver running up his spine. He managed to fix his expression rather quickly but his breathing remained a little uneven. After a long silence, he finally decided on a course of action. It seemed Zamora needed a little more than a brother that would protect her physically. Fine, then. If she needed someone to soothe her and melt her worries away, he’d try to play the part. He didn’t know if he’d be any good at it but she did need someone and it didn’t seem that any of the wenches would do at this point. So he’d be her rock if she’d have him. Omari sighed quietly and moved closer to his sister, plopping down next to her.

“If you get into trouble, you’re bound to get noticed too. But maybe for the right reasons.” Maybe it was better that she joined a crew. Maybe he could join the same and keep an eye on her. Yes, that could work. Still, Omari could barely believe that he was actually encouraging his sister to cause trouble. He leaned his body against Zamora and placed his head over her neck. “Maybe we’ll even join the same crew.”

Zamora shifted a little closer to her brother, a soft purr leaving her as he laid his head along her neck, " Really? You think we could be on the same crew? You wouldn't be embarrassed by having your sister running beside you? I promise I'd watch your back Omari, no one would hurt you, I swear." She said the last with firm conviction.

Snuggling into him, Zamora looked out over the ocean, " I just don't want to end up as some grabby male's plaything. I think I'd rather go drown myself in the sea before I let that happen."

Sighing, the female cub seemed to consider something, her crimson eyes narrowing as she gave voice to her thoughts, " Omari...I am going to have to learn to fight. Do..do you think you could help me? Find someone to teach me maybe? I am doing good with my stalk and steal games, and I am learning to hid my white coat. I can track some things, and am learning how to tell the differences between one track and another...but I don't even know where to begin with the fighting. Do you?"

No one would hurt… him? Omari craned his neck to look at his sister seriously in the eyes as he considered her words and finally chuckled a couple of times, a wide grin suddenly reaching his eyes.

“Pfff, that’s my line, red-eyes.” he said lightly seemingly amused. “But if we’re ever on the same crew, I will trust you with my life. And I won’t let anyone say you’re bad luck or anything dumb like that.”

The weight of his head on his sister increased considerably as she carried on talking and Omari’s throat quivered roughly even if most of the sound was trapped within it. The cub’s eyes narrowed and he looked angry but he managed to keep his cool after taking one very long breath. Plaything.

“Don’t say stupid things. If anyone ever tries that, you’ll run. There are lots of lions out there, too.” By “out there” he meant the rogue lands though he’d never actually been there. From what he’d heard, the cub only knew that it was a somewhat dangerous place where all the dopes who lived to be robbed existed. And wow, Zamora seemed to be working really hard and know so much already… Perhaps he should try a little harder as well or he’d end up being a burden to her. Now that would be something.“I can wrestle you. And you can ask Pizarro nicely too, when Cortez isn’t watching. And we can find older kids to help us… the huntress apprentices would maybe. Let’s just keep this from the wenches. Or not. Maybe we should just work on increasing your reputation. You will be… Bloodgaze the Terror, the most dangerous female crew member the pride has ever seen.”

It was easier this way, thinking up solutions to their current problem and adding a little bit of humor to lighten the mood. Most of what his sister said rebounded off easily and he remained unaffected but Zamora had a knack to say things that threw him off-balance every once in a while. She was a bit of a pest sometimes but Omari would never let anything bad happen to her and his sister's misery pushed his buttons in more way that he liked to admit.

Zamora purred contently, a smile lighting up her eyes as she turned a little so Omari wasn't crushing her, but was still laying on her. She liked having him close, out of all her siblings, he made her feel safe, like she could depend on him for anything.

" I like that idea Omari, I like it a lot. All of it. We can be crew together, or better, you can be captain and I'll be your first mate. Zamora the Sanguine. scourge of the sea, loyal first mate of Omari the Black!" She giggled, " Just think all the fun we are going to have!"

The young cub relaxed the tension flowing out of her like a wave leaving shore, " I knew you wouldn't let anything happen to me Omari, I knew I could trust you. I'll trust you always brother, and I'll always be there when you need me. Promise."

Captain? Oh no, that was so much work. Even being a First Mate sounded much too troublesome to the sandy cub. It figured that even his litter’s only female cub showed more ambition (and promise, he figured) than Omari himself.

“Sanguine, huh? I like it.” Though I’m not really that black… He felt her relax, relieved to have managed to bring her some comfort though he had to give some credit to his sister’s inner strength. He wasn’t sure what he’d do in her place. And while he did like to be left alone, the idea of growing up with his sister by his side wasn’t really that bad, even if he didn’t really consider himself deserving of such great trust. He spoke quietly, in a whisper, easing the pressure of his head as he closed his eyes. “Yes… we’re going to have a lot of fun.”
