It was late afternoon and all the chores had been done. Wykla felt a little silly walking around the Weyr with a couple of warm pots under her arms, her flit Boreal perched on her shoulder, and her dragon Kameth following behind. She was certain several people had already stopped to stare. Maybe it was just at Kameth's magnificent blue hide, cleaned to perfection and gleaming with oil.

The young girl was looking for her friend, Mercy. She was checking all the normal spots a young new rider would frequent. The bathing pools, the feeding tables, the sand beds. Could she be at the weyrling bunks? Wykla pouted slightly.

Kameth stopped and flipped his wings. Letting them drop to the ground and rest weary wing muscles. Mine, I could just ask Aerith where they are. He felt His' resistance to asking and applied logic. It would be much faster if I asked. Unless you want to spend all night looking for her..... He let his voice trail off then waited until Wykla gave her assent. Aerith. Mine is looking for Yours. Where are you?

Mercy was indeed holed up in the weyrling bunk's sitting on her bed and attempting to mend..for the fourth or fifth time in just as many days...the odd little half sweater half blanket thing she'd made to help keep Aerith warm. It was a both useful and irritating idea she'd come up with and judging by the amount of times she'd had to fix it already the design still needed some work.

Not that she'd ever actually get to remedy said problems by the time Aerith outgrew this one Mercy was hoping the little white wouldn't need the extra help. Humming softly to herself she was interrupted suddenly when Aerith's head popped out from under the blanket she'd snuggled under for a nap earlier on, bright eyes whirling in a pleased manner. 'Kameth and his are looking for us, shall I tell them where we are?' She inquired of Mercy.

"Of course" Mercy said somewhat curious, maybe she just wanted to catch up? Everyone had been so busy since the hatching that they hadn't had much time for visiting - or at least she hadn't, Aerith kept her days pretty well smushed full of work.

Aerith of course seemed delighted at the prospect of a visit, she did so like to spend time with her clutch mates 'we are in mines bunk' She relayed to Kameth in a pleased tone.

Kameth was pleased by Aerith's reply. Now they wouldn't have to walk through the rest of the Weyr. It meant he wouldn't risk getting his wings dirty and bringing the wrath of His down on him. Mine, they are up in Aerith's bunk.

Wykla sighed. Kameth's way was certainly easier, and she was getting tired carrying these big pots around. She nodded, "thanks Kameth." Turning in the right direction she headed toward Mercy's bunk.

Soon the little procession arrived. "Mercy? Ya in there?" Wykla peeked her head in and saw the girl with a strange thing in her lap. "Hey, what's that?" It certainly didn't look like anything she'd wear. Coming in she set the pots down to look closer at it. "I don't think you made that right."

Upon Kameth and Wykla's arrival Aerith decided to come out from the warm little net she'd made for herself among the blankets, sliding to the floor and going to greet her blue brother 'we weren't expecting visitors!' She told him 'Are you tired? Do you want to lay in my blankets? you must have walked an awful long way'

While Aerith greeted her brother Mercy smiled at Wykla as she approached, laughing a bit at the comments over Aerith's blanket sweater thing - it did look pretty odd she had to admit and she held it up for Wykla to see better "A weaver or tailor could have done quite a bit better" She agreed as she eyed flaws in her sewing "But it's not for us silly, I made it for Aerith, she gets terribly cold still, has a harder time keeping warm then the others. I guess it's because she's so much smaller? But this part sort of buttons about her neck and this goes across her back and this under her belly and it buttons up again along the sides behind her wings..so it leaves her legs and wings free but helps keep her mid-section warm"

She laughed slightly and shrugged "Aerith says it helps anyways, though she wasn't to keen on it at first. What brings you over his way? Aerith says you were looking for us?"

I am alright Aerith. Mine is making me hold my wings up, she says to strengthen them. Only they are tired. He didn't feel that he needed to say more. Of course, they were expecting visitors since Kameth himself had asked where they were. He sat down somewhere, out of the way and where he could watch His.

Wykla giggled slightly. "That makes more sense. I was concerned you were going to try wearing it." She glanced from the blanket to the little white and tried to imagine how it'd look on her.

"Yeah I guess that makes sense. Congrats on her by the way. She's pretty." Wykla smiled at the white then turned her attention back to Mercy. "Oh! Yes. Um, well Boreal caught one of gold flits recently. There were seven eggs, and I thought you might like one."

"I didn't realize how much work a white is though." She bent down and picked up one of the warm pots. "So the choice is yours I guess. If you want to add a hungry flit to your duties with Aerith." Wykla looked at her. She really didn't have any other idea of who to give the egg to if Mercy didn't want it. "They are pretty hard and should be hatching soon."

'Your wings are quite large' Aerith remarked as she stretched her own out to compare it to Kameth's, which really just highlighted how very small her own were, of course she reminded herself that Kameth's wing were even larger then her other blue brothers 'But I bet you shall be a wonderful flyer someday because of them' She told him brightly 'This strengthening will be well worth it then'

"That would case more then a few stares I think" Mercy agreed as she looked at the ungainly bunch of material. Setting it down she beamed at Wykla "Thanks, Kameth is quite stunning as well, isn't it great that we both impressed this time around? No more standing and wondering and hoping on the sands for us...just cheering on friends" Which she reflected was a burden she was well glad to be rid of!

Of course the offer of the egg was completely unexpected and Mercy - despite the extra work it might cause - nearly jumped at the chance, especially for one of Boreal's get, she'd always liked Wykla's little bronze "I would love an egg, and Aerith would love a little friend I'm sure, they can grow together"

Yes they are. I will fly high and fast with Mine. The weyrlingmaster will not let us fly yet. He sounded rather irritated at that. Who was the weyrlingmaster to say he couldn't fly with His? But, His had backed the master instead giving Kameth ways to exercise and strengthen his wings. Kameth wanted to fly as soon as possible. Mine is small and light. She will be very easy to carry and we will go very fast. I hope so, I do not like this being grounded.

Wykla nodded agreement. She as a friend, could not have let Mercy go out wearing that. The girl smiled. "Thanks! He's such a pretty blue, and those wings of his. I'll certainly be able to find him now, but I worry that I'll loose sight of him in the sky." It sounded silly, but Wykla had seen days where the sky was one of the shades of his hide.

With a grin Wykla handed the pot over. "You know the drill right? Keep it by the fire and keep it warm. Turn it a couple times a day, blah, blah, blah." She giggled. Weyr kids heard it so many times that it was part of like baking bread. They just knew. "That will be sweet for them. When you're flit gets old he'll be able to help with Aerith too. Boreal does amazing stuff for Kameth....."

While the two girls were talking, the bronze listened carefully. His head tilted from side to side as one spoke then His did. This was great fun! Then his attention was caught by something else. Boreal reared up on his hindlegs, forefoot grasping His' ear carefully. A long deep hum came from his throat. The blue dragon shuffled forward intently and started a croon of his own. Kameth was watching the pots.

Wykla was distracted for a moment as Boreal grabbed her ear. What was he doing? A hum from Kameth made her go wide-eyed. The young dragon sounded so funny, humming like that, but it was Boreal's hum that really got her attention. It was the firelizard version of a hatching hum.

She squeaked, "Mercy! They're Hatching now!!" Quickly she knelt and opened the pot still by her feet. Pouring the sand out, a wiggling egg dropped into her palm. The eggs were hatching!

'it is something to look forward too' Aerith agreed 'And we must trust that ours know best when it comes to such things, they don't want us to get hurt is all' She told him and having deduced that this was a bit of a sore spot with her blue brother continued on 'Though I am quite confident that you could, you will probably fly with yours before the rest of us' She stated confidently in hopes that such a statement would please him.

"His hide really is the color of the sky on clear days isn't it?" She remarked as she looked at the blue again "I guess I'll never have that problem with Aerith" She joked "..well unless she flys into a cloud, or fog..but I wouldn't worry too much, most of the time you'll be up in the sky with him after all" She pointed out before accepting the pot and nodding at the instructions "The help will certainly be welcome when it comes" She confessed to Wykla..and really so what if the egg would be a bit more work in the meantime? She'd always wanted a flit and what was a bit more oiling and feeding compared to how much of that she did already!

Aerith of course was not to be left out of the hatching and echoed Boreal and Kameth in their crooning 'There are babies coming soon mine' She conveyed with bright eyes as she watched the pots.

Mercy's eyes were a bit wide - Wykla had said they were close..but clearly they were closer then she had expected and followed the others girls actions with the pot she'd been giving, carefully uncovering the egg and cupping it in her hands as it wiggled about before looking around "We're going to need something to feed them..."

Kameth sat up straighter when Aerith thought he'd be the first to fly with His. Yes I will. Now he had a goal to work for. The first one of this clutch to reach the skies with His. Now he had purpose behind the training His wanted him to do. Kameth promised himself to try extra hard, but until then there was a hatching going on. His throat swelled as he hummed his childish croon.

She nodded. Wykla was proud of her lovely blue boy, even though he'd come as a complete shock. "That's true, but before we fly with them they practice flying solo. That's what I was really thinking about. Once we fly together I don't think I'll ever loose him." She smiled fondly at Kameth. Her blue. Her dragon.

Wykla mentally cursed herself when Mercy brought up the fact they didn't have any meat. Shard it! We'll loose them. The steady croon in her ear gave her a fast idea. "Boreal! Go down to the feeding tables. Bring back a small knife and a slab of meat. Hurry!" She felt his slight reluctance to leave at this moment.

The girl tried to press the urgency upon the flit and felt him take off. If only he would hurry! She looked back down at the two eggs. One in her hands and one in Mercy's. Through her hands, Wykla could feel the little flit tapping to get out and assumed it was the same for Mercy. "Oh look! Yours is getting a large crack!"

Just then Boreal popped back in with a blast of cold air. In his mouth were several smaller pieces that he deposited by Mercy. Flying back to His to hand her the biggest chunk of meat he could carry and a small knife to cut it from his front feet.

Wykla praised Boreal lavishly and kissed the top of his nose. "Good boy Boreal!" She set her egg down nearby where she could watch it. Taking knife and meat she started to cut small chunks off; adding them to the pile Boreal started already by Mercy.

"This is so exciting!" Her eyes flashed brightly, "It's like Standing all over again."

Aerith too was now fully absorbed in the little egg's and she had moved as close as she could get in order to watch everything that happened and was practically crawling into Mercy's lap as a result, eyes whirling with excitement and her voice picking up as the crack appeared.

As the crack appeared Mercy was debating what she'd do if Boreal didn't return in time..find some insects maybe? But the worry was needless as Wykla's loyal flit returned promptly with the required goods "They really are useful aren't they" She remarked before inspecting the crack "I think I see a nose poking out!" She exclaimed as the egg wobbled and then cracked in two, spilling both the newborn flit and egg goo into Mercy's hands.

Normally the thought of egg goo all over her hands would have been a bit of an ick factor - but it was hard to think something like that when the little golden baby was also in her hands "Oh my! A gold!" and somewhat surprised she grabbed a bit of the food Boreal had brought and began to feed the little beast.

Boreal hummed encouragement to the little queen.

"Ooooh! She's pretty Mercy. Here," the girl handed over more cut up bits. "Good thing they still had this set up hu?" She watched her friend with a smile. Wykla thought perhaps she was good luck or something. Now two of her friends had golds.

Just as she was reaching to pass a piece of meat to Mercy, a small green muzzle snatched it from her fingers. "Oh!" Her eyes went wide at the little green creeling by her knee. She'd forgotten the extra egg in the rush of Mercy's hatching.

Using a bit of meat Wykla gently moved the green onto her lap and fed her. She heard Boreal trill happily from her shoulder.

Mercy quickly fed the little gold a few more tidbits of food 'She's so brightly colored mine, Like sunshine!' Aerith remarked as she eyed the little gold with happy eyes. Gold of course were all so pretty and bright..which Mercy knew that Aerith knew quite well but the dragonets excited remark drew a smile from her anyways and she gently stroked the little flit with one finger while scratching Aerith with her other hand.

"She is like sunshine Aerith, your right...maybe we should call her Sunny" Mercy tested and Aerith warbled her agreement as Mercy fed her another bit of meat before realizing that she'd become rather absorbed in the gold and practicably missed the hatching of Wykla's green "She's a beautiful shade" Mercy remarked of the little green "You've got the whole range now - Kameth for the sky, Boreal for the sun/moon and stars..and this one here as the meadows"

Wykla admired the two new flits in between feeding the green tiny bits of meat. "You and Cheer certainly made pretty babies, Boreal." With the majority of her hunger taken care of, she noticed the little green's eyes turn a pleasant shade of blue. It seemed she would have the same disposition as her sire.

Coaxing the non-reluctant fire lizard into her lap, Wykla lightly petted her. She had thought she'd dome well by waiting to Impress a dragon until Boreal had grown. Now it seemed that she'd have double the mouths and feeding anyhow. Wykla was not going to complain.

"Awwww that's a cute name Mercy. I like it." She laughed, "Your right, I do. The best combo anyone could ask for. I think I'll name her Fescues. What do you boys think?"

Boreal puffed out his chest. He'd made gorgeous offspring. Kameth peered over His' shoulder unoccupied by a flit. She is friendly and will be pleasant to be around.

"They really did, Fescues is a very pretty green" Mercy agreed as she admired the two flits, Sunny too seemed to have eaten enough to fill her up and with a large belly she curled up sleepily in Mercy's lap. Aerith meanwhile seemed to be eying what was left of the tiny bit of meat.

"And I can see how things are going to be now" She told Wykla with a laugh "Get one full and to sleep and the other will want something" She teased Aerith in an affectionate tone as she rubbed the dragonets eye ridges 'I am only a little hungry mine' 'A little hungry that will turn into starving before long'

"I think I'd be rather biased toward any baby Boreal had a hand in. Or is it wing? Hope I get to meet the rest of the clutch." She petted the two flits. Boreal trilling happily and Fescues yawning sleepily. "Thanks."

"Oh yes. We'll never get a moments peace until their grown." She eyed Boreal. "And him. You're going to be half and half aren't you? Sometimes helping and sometimes demanding." She rubbed her cheek against him affectionately.

"We could head down to the feeding tables now and get a head start on them."
