Desma's mom had expressed how "deeply sorry" she was at not being home for the holiday season, and how it would be an "inconvenience" to take her only daughter out of school for the month. The shaggy haired girl didn't care much, it meant her mom was just upset enough that she'd throw some cash Desma's way as an early Christmas gift.

Cash tucked safely in her pocket, and dorky Christmas hat perched on her head, Desma was roaming the aisles of Best Buy. The ear flaps of her hat flopping with each step.

Video games had never held her attention, and there wasn't exactly enough cash to buy a nice computer or television. DVDs were the rational solution, she started towards the large selection in the center of the store.

In a perfect world, Tallulah Cowden would have done her Christmas shopping weeks ago. She'd also have already gotten her college acceptance letter, be assured of straight As on her upcoming report card, and her face wouldn't look like she'd gotten in a fight with a cheese grater and lost. However, this wasn't a perfect world, and Tallulah Cowden was roaming Best Buy with a purpose, looking for something that might satisfy her father's tastes for military drama and red blooded male heroics, that might compliment the giant television he'd bought himself a year previously.

The only solution was to go in search of the DVD section. That was luckily easy enough, but then, as she trawled the aisles, what would make her dad happy?

A M.A.S.H. box set caught her eye. "Classic!" grinned Tallulah. Military, Americana, and machismo! All things that Angus Cowden liked. She went to go pick it up, only to find another set of hands going for the same box.

And it was the very last one.

Desma was making her way backwards through the alphabet Mork and Mindy, Mellenium, Matlock, nothing seemed all that interesting. Dez continued down the list M. A.S.H. Come to think of it, she'd never actually seen the grand finale of the show.

"Attention all personnel. Due to circumstances beyond our control, lunch will be served today." She quoted one of favorite lines from the program. Desma reached for the DVD boxed set, hoping that it had the special features with commentary, sometimes companies came out with the lousy sets that just had episodes, and no extras.

Just as her hands grazed the cellophane wrapped package she noticed that someone else was reaching for the pack.

"Looks like it's the last one," Desma spoke feeling awkward, she flashed a goofy grin. "Maybe, there's another one in the back?" She mumbled, and pulled her hands back hesitantly. Didn't if figure? One left, and someone else wanted it.

Rats, foiled again! Tallulah kept her hand awkwardly on the cellophane packaging and looked up at the other girl. "Maybe," she said, but chances were they didn't - it was the holiday rush, after all! And what were her shots at finding something so perfect for Angus again?

She nodded to a blue-shirted employee as he strode past the end of the aisle and suggested, "You could go ask?"

Tallulah had the sneaking suspicion that if there wasn't another copy, then whoever was left holding the box would be the one to take it home. And she wasn't about to go down without a fight.

Desma smiled, "Sure, I'll take it over to him and ask." She placed a hand on the box. It wasn't exactly the most clever idea, but perhaps the other girl would fall for the trick, she'd start heading toward the sales associate and then bee-line for the check out.

"So..I'll just.." she wrapped both hands uncomfortably on one side of the box, "be right back with your set, eh?" She bobbed her head enthusiastically, the plush ball on the top of dorky hat bobbling back and forth.

Tallulah was at least savvy enough to see right through this. When the other girl doubled her grip on the box, she mirrored the move. She didn't mean to come off as rude or aggressive, but frankly she'd seen too many christmas specials to do anything else. If she let go of the DVDs, they'd waltz right out the door.

"Why don't we find him together?" she suggested sweetly, looking around to see if there was a blue-shirted employee anywhere in their vicinity. There wasn't. Where was customer service when you actually needed them? They'd hound you as soon as you came in the door, but if you actually had a question... Forget it.

"Do you see anyone?" she asked.

Des allowed her grip on the package to fall away as she realized she was acting like a jerk, even if it was the complete season of MASH, there were bound to be more, and she could possibly find something better.

"I think I saw one over there," she pointed at a tall young man in a Best Buy uniform. After indicating where she started to walk in his direction slowly.

"Are you really into MASH? I just about die every time there's an episode focusing on Corporal Klinger. He's hysterical!" She chuckled.

Now Tallulah felt like a brat. The girl had proven perfectly reasonable and was even headed for customer service, and she had no choice but to follow. "My dad's a bigger fan than I am," she admitted. "But it's really hard to find on syndication and he just bought a new TV last year."

"Klinger's great, though," she added with a grin, just to show that she did, in fact, know what she was talking about. "It's a kind of weird series, though, you know? Like, it starts out funny and it's not like it doesn't stay funny, but it gets a lot more serious as it goes on."

They were close to the young man in uniform now. Tallulah gave the brunette a look. "Are you going to ask him?"
