Kaym'tan growled under his breath, watching the jungle come alive with the setting of the sun. Light bugs moved from iridescent plant to luminescent fungi and neon lichen along the massive tree trunks that grew out side Mother tree. It was beautiful, a beauty that should be shared. Only he wasn't sharing it, was he?

Growling again the warrior tucked his tail around his front paws and stared out onto the offending foliage, his expression as sour as his mood. Give him an enemy, give him a border to scout, or Eywa bless, give him a spring buck to hunt...but this, this was like..like....trying to breath underwater!

"Oel ngati kameie, tsmukan." A low rumbling voice came from behind the gloomy scout just as the first 'weight' of another's presence touched the breeze. Toruk stepped round his long time friend and settled down beside Kaym, vivid gold gaze wandering slowly over the forest that stretched out before them as it slowly lit up with the night time creatures and plants that inhabited it.

Eventually Tsamsiyu turned and studied his brother, head tilting slightly. He had known Kaym too long not to know when the other lion was simply grumpy at something and when something was truly upsetting his friend. Turning his gaze back to the beauty around them, he looked upwards, watching a lizard as it scurried over the glowing bark of a tsyorina’wll tree. "What ails you, my friend?" He asked, voice pitched low to match the quiet of the dark around them.

Kaym'itan glanced briefly over his shoulder as the air shifted and the place beside him was claimed by his cubhood friend, the scowl on his face no less fierce as he answered back the ages old greeting, "Oel ngati kameie, tsmukan."

He sighed deeply, having known that Toruk would ask exactly what he had. The scout wondered for a heart beat if he could distract his friend, give him an answer that had nothing to do with what was bothering his heart. He turned his crimson eyes to Tsamsiyu's gold ones, about to do just that, when he suddenly realized there was no reason to. He and Toruk had never side stepped what burdened them. Not before the war and not during. He would not start now.

" It is Seze Tsamsiyu, it is simply her." The gruff scout let his gaze follow his friends, watching the same lizard race across the tsyorina'wll tree. Kaym'itan's heart none the lighter for finally voicing what had been bothering him these many unending weeks.

"Ahh..." Tsamsiyu watched the lizard for a moment more before it vanished into a hold in the tree, yet he let his gaze linger on the forest around them, giving his friend a few minutes. He knew how much Seze had meant to the scout, and how his heart had longed for her, as he too had felt that same longing for his wonderful priestess.

"Have you still not seen her, my friend?" He asked gently, worried for his brother. It had been so long now, and still she seemed oblivious to Kaym'itan's feelings. Surely she knew about them. Turning back to study his oldest friend he wished he could ease the pain he saw so clearly in his crimson eyes. Yet the only advice he could give would not be welcomed. He wished his brother happy, yet it seemed as if Ewya had other plans for his friend.

Kaym'itan sighed, the sound heavy. " No Brother, I have not. It is as if I do not exist to her." He watched the Warbonnets light up, their blue light dancing over his dark pelt.

" I am at a lost Tourk, this I have no experience in. Let me take a life and I can do it, with ease and with honor...but ask me to live one, and Eywa take it, I am lost."

The night scout looked down at his paws, shoulders hunched forward, " I know there are other females in the Pride, old and new, who would not mind a broken warrior, but Seze has been my beacon. Like an untouchable i'grane, only to be admired from afar. What should I do?"

Tilting his head he smiled sadly at his friend, lifting a paw and gently resting it on Kaym's shoulder. "Do not say that brother... you are a distinguished and desirable lion. Many a female has seen that, and I know many of them would delight in becoming your mate." Letting his paw lower he bent his head, trying to see his friend's face more clearly. "I know what she means to you brother... but you have to think of yourself. Maybe she should stay a beacon... a dream free from the tainted reality. There is no reason why that can not be so my old friend..."

Kaym'itan allowed himself to be comforted by the brother of his heart, the only lion he would ever let see him so vulnerable. Bringing his head back up, he squared his shoulders and met Toruk's golden eyes with his crimson ones.

" No, she is a dream Brother. One born out of the war, and a young lion's desire. Those times are gone, and so is that young lion. I can accept that. I have to."

He took another breath, then smiled his shadowed half smile at Tourk, " But for you I am very happy for, Jubes is a fine female. She is beautiful and carefree, certainly to good for a skwag like you."

As his brother spoke, he felt a deep pain in his heart. He hated being so helpless, unable to stop the hurt that one of the most important beings in his life was suffering. He would have given almost anything to ease Kaym'iten's burden, but that was not the will of Ewya. There was no need for words like 'I am here', Kaym knew that, they had been each other's rock and shelter for as long as either of them could remember.

Letting Kaym change the topic he had the good grace to blush faintly at the mention of his young priestess. "That I can't disagree with that, brother. But even a skxawng like me lucks out on occasion." Toruk was clearly walking on air at the mention of the pretty young priestess, though he had the grace to look bashful about it all. After all, they had only spoken together thus far... he had along way to go before she agreed to be his.

Kaym'itan chuckled in his deep rumbling voice at his friends embaresment, " The very fact she likes you just proves what I have always thought about the clergy...Ewya graced them with blind eyes."

His deep voice was teasing, not only his brother, but his young priestess as well. A playful swipe at the female who would soon take his best friend away from him as they grew in love under Ewya.

Kaym'itan knew this, and while he would morn the loss of his friend, he was happy that a warrior like Tourk, beaten and battered could find someone to love him. It warmed the night scout's heart, and made his own resolve to continue to protect the Pride, strengthen. If not for his family and cubs then for his friends.

Snorting he took a playful swipe at Kaym'itan with his paw, claws sheathed. "If it wasn't for the fact I'm still stunned over it all.. I'd have something cleaver and witty to say in reply to that. But I can't help fearing that she will pick another." Huffing softly he stretched out his forepaws, back arching with a shiver.

Had he known his brother's thoughts, he would have been quick to correct them, for while he loved Jubes, he loved his brother as well, and there was enough room in his heart, and in his life, for them both.

Kaym'itan mocked growled at the swat. His ear laying back as he pounced on his brother. " Witty? From you? Trust me Brother, your association with our young Priestess is not the reason for your addled brain. That happened years ago."

He bit down on his friend's ear, chewing playfully, " If she has any sense she will." The chuckle that followed showed he was jesting, " You have noting to fear Toruk, she will not find a kinder, nor nobler heart then yours. Even if you have the brains of a fan lizard."

"Ack!" Tumbling over as he was pounced, he wrapped his front legs round his brother's neck and playfully bit at his mane-protected shoulder. "Heh. You are one to talk, brother mine." He laughed in return, his deep baritone voice melting into the forest around them. "Who was the one who got lost the first day out of hometree?" Grinning he shook his head to dislodge his friend's teeth from his ear. "Ouch.. thats harsh Kaym. Surely I'm better than a fan lizard!" Putting on a mock-hurt tone he proceeded to roll over, wrestling with his best friend in an attempt to pin the darker lion.

Kaym'itan shifted his weight, rolling with the pounce and getting a hold of his friend's shoulders with his paws, " Hey now...my eyes had just opened. Everything was blury!"

He tugged on Tourk's man with his teeth, pulling it gently, " I thought I was being generous giving you that much. I mean, a Fan Lizard can at least find his tail with his paws..." he yanked on said tail," unlike some felines I know."

Kaym'itan let the lighter lion pin him, knowing that it made him happy to think he could.

Grinning he laughed, the sound light and free. "So you like to think, Kaym" Grunting at the tug he rolled them over till them tumbled into the sturdy roots of an ancient tree, draping himself over his brother's stomach he grinned down at Kaym. "Talking about yourself are we?" Chuckling he batted at his brother's feather before standing and giving himself a good shake.

Flopping down beside the scout he purred low, still smiling. "You can't always let me win."

Kaym'itan snorted, flipping back over onto his belly, " Hardly, I always know where my tail is..its a fine and proud tail." His tone was teasing, knowing how when they were cubs, Tourk was very proud of his own.

Shaking out the leaves from his shaggy mane, the night scout settled down beside his Brother, a grin on his face. It didn't matter how old they got, or what happened in their lives, they could always go back to when they were cubs and capture those carefree days for a few moments when no one was around.

" Who said I let you? I'm feeling my age..." he winked at Toruk, who was the elder by three days. Both lions were just into their prime, but fighting the war as adolescents made Kaym'itan at least, feel far older.
