The weather was bleak and pouring frigid rain, but as he climbed laboriously, Dodonna's blood was heated by the churning pulse of his adrenaline. He picked his way up the rocky terrain of the cliffs, blinking his eyes to keep out the moisture, eyes fixed ahead and upwards towards the tops of the fjord. He expected to be accosted by an attack at any moment, and he fervently hoped he would be.
Far back into the mainland he had heard rumors of a warrior lions on the coast, who raided and ravaged other prides, who were mighty and fearless beyond all others. He would gladly journey however many miles to test his strength against such lions, so he'd walked the long path towards their home.
Coming to a ledge, he paused and shook himself out. His eyes picked up signs of habitation; he'd surely come to the edge of the pride's territory, finally. Too eager to wait any longer, he dug his paws into a patch of sand and bellowed out a challenging roar, letting loose all the adrenaline that had been sitting impatiently in his chest for weeks.

Nymphaea was in a foul mood. A foul, FOUL mood. She was pregnant, only just, but her stomach was taking on that decidedly rounded lower pooch of pregnancy and she felt tired. Not too tired to settle near the borders and wait for a challenge but tired enough that impatience along with her terrible mood was making her pace back and forth like a crazed thing, a salmon flash of pure fury. She wasn't entirely sure who had knocked her up, but she had the sinking feeling that it was he whom she had sworn would never touch her. That made her feel even more irritated.
The sound of a challenging roar made her stop mid step. She smiled. Thank the gods! Some one was here for a fight. She was dying for a fight, desperate to kick someone in the proverbial nuts and make sure he, or she, she supposed, bent over and begged for mercy from her sharp black claws.
Of course as soon as she saw who it was she flumpped on her rear and scowled. "Dodonna." She states, flummoxed, what was she supposed to do with his appearance? Wait, he was here for a challenge. She gets to her paws and with a cocky smirk she marches towards him her bright salmon pink coat shimmering with health and a few scars. "Back for seconds Dodonna?" she smiles, remembering their previous battle, her blood red eyes smiling. She couldn't believe he was here, she wondered where he had been and she was glad he was here all in the same irritating moment. Oh how she wanted to attack him but she wanted him in the pride, she remembered him so vividly in her mind and here he was, bright, shining, handsome and calling for a challenge, for her challenge. It was simply wonderful.

Dodonna whirled as he heard the voice, and only his personal ethics kept him from lashing out immediately from sheer eagerness. He mustn't throw the first punch, he wouldn't allow that of himself. He still bared he teeth and made sure every bit of his posture made it very clear to whoever was coming, that he wanted a good hard tussle. Oh please let it be a great big warrior, he preyed. Even if he got his head knocked in for his trouble, it would be better than coming all this way for nothing.
The immense amount of bright pink threw him for a jolt, though, and nearly knocked him out of his fighting stance. It wasn't just how loud the color was against the grey background. He knew that pink. "...Nymphaea?" he asked, and licked his damp jaw for moisture, throat suddenly dry.
There stood the only female who'd thrown him, and during her youth at that. He'd been sorely vexed when he'd lost track of her. Only now here she was again, and much... larger. A whole lot of much larger, she outsized him even.
It took him a moment to realize why she was greeting him. "You live here now, do you?" Aw hell, he was going to lose this fight, wasn't he?

Nymphaea laughed, her smile flashing a toohy grin as she approached him. "Yes, I live here I am a reaver." She smiles her deep bloody red eyes dancing. She was feeling excited for this fight oh so excited. She was bigger now, fitter, a better fighter, but she was also pregnant and despite the fact that she really didn't want to be pregnant, she wasn't about to put them in danger, she would have to be cautious, what was she thinking standing on the borders waiting for a challenge?
Well she wasn't likely to back down, it wasn't in her to back out of anything. "I hear your challenge Dodonna and I accept." She smirks and lowers herself in to a crouch her belly close to the ground, her blood red eyes dancing happily.
She had questions for him, questions that would need to be answered when he was in the pride, questions she would have to have from him and answers to old questions. It must be fate that he was here, they would be together again, just like before, challenging, battling, fighting. And maybe, just maybe he would be her mate. Clearly she was going soft, head in the game here. She had a challenge to fight here and this was still Dodonna, he was a great fighter and she had no doubt he had learned much since they had last fought all that time ago.

Dodonna ignored the little voice in his head, that was measuring him against her and pointing out just how slim his chances were. He hadn't cared a moment ago whether he got thrashed or not, and now that he'd recovered from his shock, he still didn't care. In fact his anticipation was picking up, and he found it hard to stay still. He'd asked for a fight, and he could definitely expect one from her!
He grinned at her formal acceptance of his challenge. So, a pride with rules about this sort of thing? Just his type of lions. His nails dug into the sand hungrily and his tail lashed of its own volition. "Well, come on then, Reaver," he goaded, and began circling, testing out his footing on the ledge, eyes darting along the landscape to note the features. He still couldn't allow himself to throw the first swing, but he knew he wouldn't have to. He geared up every muscle for when she took her move, for he knew he'd have to be ready to retaliate immediately.

She smiles, she remembered that pose. He wouldn't take the first shot. She actually liked that about him. Still she was starting to feel a little concerned. Damned pregnancy, why was she hesitating? Time to get this going!
She smirks and dives for him, something she never really did, she didn't usually just dive in head first but then she had to attack some time and if she lost, well she could blame it on being pregnant, or just say she threw the battle to let him in. She would never throw a battle, that wasn't an excise in her vocabulary.
Unsheathing her claws she aimed for his shoulder, her dark black claws reaching to rake his skin and flesh and fur. oh how she enjoyed a good fight, she had enjoyed her last fight with him and now, here she was again battling with the one male she had actually liked, respected even. The male she had previously thought would one day be her mate. perhaps, just maybe that would happen now.
GET YOUR HEAD BACK IN THE BATTLE! She mentally screamed at herself. She had the sinking feeling that she would not walk away from this battle as the victor.

Seeing her coming at him, Dodonna thrilled at the ferocity in her. No hesitation, just a straight on charge, a hefty tower of pink muscle bearing down on him like a falling tree, ready to crash. Yes, this was what he'd come all this way for! Lions who didn't know any fear or faltering! His memory flashed back to their last fight, and how he hadn't been sure at first if she was even an adversary. He'd never make that mistake now.
He couldn't keep the snarling grin off his face, even when her claws came out, dark and lethal. As she came at him, he employed a trick he'd picked up the hard way from a nasty scuffle with a pack of hyenas. He stepped backwards quickly and rolled back onto his haunches, tucking his legs tight up the edge of the rock ledge. He'd planned for the edge to be against his back, so that she couldn't bowl him over so long as he pressed against it.
Holding his body taut, he angled his neck down low and rolled forward to kick off the rock, teeth aimed for the inside of her legs where they were swiping down at him, and arms splayed out to catch her. He held his braced himself for the impact, keeping his posture aligned so that nothing would snap in him. Hopefully.

She was surprised by his quick movement and barely managed to stop herself as his jaws clipped along her fur and skin. She scolded herself as he wrapped his paws around her managing to stop herself her powerful back legs kicking out against rock to stop herself from tumbling and ultimately to stop him from following her off the edge.
"I know you missed me Dodonna but really a hug?" She smirks and snaps at his cheek her teeth just grazing through his thick mane without taking any real skin, her body pointed in an odd direction.
Kicking back against the ground she tries to push him backwards and so topple him over her paws pointing downwards covering her stomach. Hopefully Dodonna wouldn't notice her poochy stomach, she suddenly didn't feel like the muscly giant that she was, she felt fat and weak. Ugh, this had to be her last challenge until she had the little furballs out of her body.
Oh gods why wasn't her head in this fight? Dodonna had scattered her thoughts and her belly kept her wondering. She was going to lose this battle and she was starting to resign herself to the loss. What more could she do? At least Dodonna would be here and maybe they could pick up where they left off?
In a FIGHT, a FIGHT!!! stop over thinking it!

Snorting at her bad joke in between wheezing, Dodonna took her brunt and managed to hold without losing ground. His attempt at a hamstring attack had been thwarted by her strange posturing. Just what was she doing her her paws, anyway? Trying to block her sensitive underbelly? Surely there were easier ways to do that without leaving herself open to retaliation.
He switched the direction of his bite, now aiming it at the underside of her neck, and latched on to the flesh there sharply. He didn't intend to actually severely harm her, but he couldn't pull his blows or she would be able to tell. He shifted one foot up the side of the cliff face, giving him additional leverage to push against her.
It was interesting to test his weight against hers this directly. Though she was larger, she seemed to be holding back somehow. Changing tactics, he shifted his grip lower down her torso and pulled with his arms while pushing with his head, trying to knock her onto her back.

Nymphaea chuckled lightly, it had been a while since she had truly had a fight, really this was the first time since she had faught Taraxa and gotten in to the stormborn. Taraxa, god damn it what if these babies were his? Oh god what if there babies WERE HIS?
She felt her blood boil and as Dodonnas teeth found her jawline, she tripped and fell backwards, shocked by the sharp pain there. Blinking owlishly she holds up her paws her head feeling the slight crack of the ground. Ouch.
This was the worst fight ever, she huffed heavily lowering her paws back to her stomach she sighed heavily. "You win, you win." She sighs rolling on to her side feeling ashamed of herself, she had hardly put up any fight. Her mind was else where and she had lost to Dodonna and made a fool of herself.
"You win, welcome home, Stormborn." She rolls her eyes and looks up at Dodonna. "Welcome home."

Pleased with his victory, Dodonna let her up and stretched out his muscles, relaxing now that the fight had passed. It had been very short, but he'd proved himself against someone who had previously beaten him, and that was all that mattered. That was far better than any lengthy duel. And hopefully there would be other lions around here somewhere, to whom maybe Nymphaea could introduce him and get him a couple spars going.
He eyed the female he'd taken down admiringly, studying her physique. She'd behaved oddly in the battle, and he was honestly surprised she'd gone down so quickly. But he didn't peg her as a weak fighter, as her body spoke a far different story. He smirked. Maybe he was just that good.
He blinked at her words though. "Stormborn?" he queried, puzzled. Some sort of term for combat winner, maybe. It was an appealing title, as far as such things went. "Wait, home? What are you talking about?"

Nymphaea huffed and clambered to her paws. She stretched out her legs and turned to lick her back for a moment. No blood, no scratches, some bruises. She was fine and together. Except of course for the fact that she was pregnant and she didn't have any clue who the hell the father was.
"You are a stormborn now Dodonna." She smiled a little, she was quite pleased to call him that and though she felt disappointed that she hadn't fought hard against him, she was glad he was here now. She remembered the way they used to be.
"Come, I'll show you where you can rest and I will take you to see Aesir tomorrow." She sighs heavily, she she ask Dodonna to come and stay in her den? Should she tell him she was pregnant? Should she turn around and attack him as she used to? Pregnant remember? Swallowing hard she flickers her tail. "You can come and stay with me if you like. I have a den on my own with rom enough for another."

Bemused at her offer, Dodonna wasn't really sure what to make of it. He didn't know who this Aesir was, maybe she intended to introduce him to another person to duel? Or maybe this Aesir was her mate. It had been a long time since he'd last seen her, afterall. Somehow the idea of her paired off didn't sit very well with him. That alone was enough impetus to make him accept her offer. He'd stay at her den for the night, then.
The facts lined up in his head all of a sudden, and as he replayed her words in his mind, he realized she was expecting him to join her pride! He scoffed to himself. Just like she used to be, pushy and making decisions for him. 'You're coming with me,' she had said. Well, yes, he supposed he was.
Well, if this pride was everything the rumors made it out to be, maybe it was worth a look over. It had been a very long time since he'd belonged anyway, and he didn't know if he could. But he knew with a certainty that he was about to follow this female back up to her people on the cliffs. And he was okay with that.

Nymph chuckled, she wondered why he was so worried. "Aesir is the leader of the stormborn." She stated as if it needed clarification.
Leading him through the lands she made a beeline for her den. Maybe Taraxa would steer clear if Dodonna was in her den? Maybe her cubs to be were not Taraxa, though she had a sinking feeling that they were and maybe, just maybe, she could claim they were Dodonnas. They had almost been lovers in the past after all....Right?
She felt very confused but lead him in to her den any way where she lay down comfortably, feeling almost safe, almost secure knowing that Dodonna was in her den, that he would be one of the stormborn, that maybe, just maybe they would pick up where they left off? She close her eyes and mumbled "Make yourself comfortable Dodonna, I'm sure you'll like it here." She huffs, trying to make it sound like she didn't care as she allowed herself to drift off to sleep.
