The place was barren...and mass of destruction. And this was only the edge of the Northeast. On the edge of the barrier that held literally hell at pay it seemed. Wondering the the near deserted streets like she was, she could feel the tension and the pain in the air. The eeriness of what the barrier held at pay. A mere spell holding all the madness at bay...sounded familiar to Ski's ears.

She had been walking around for a while, checking out the mildly respectable places she could set up her place. Still standing buildings that looked to still have a the ability to stand for some time too. There were a number of them...but they were either taken, invested with rats or cockroaches...or holey for that matter. But now as she walked up a pair of creaky yet sturdy stair to a what appeared to be once an hold house now empty. Dusty, musty and dark, complete with cobwebs and everything; except rats and cockroaches.

Searching, Ski had only found only one room that was sleep worthy in this place. An old bedroom, it looked like by the broken wooden frame. Across the room adjacent to the bed was a hefty vanity complete with a mirror; a cracked mirror. A book case in another corner. There was a few windows that luckily were mostly whole. Allowing the sun to come in and keep most of the unpleasant elements away. Pushing down her hood Ski looked up at the rafters that showed.

"This'll work...just have to set up a little nest and a few defenses spells and this place will be as good as any."

Defensive spells will keep the weak and the cowardly away. Anything more she would deal with her fists. And with that in mind, the game was on to find just what she could find or steal that would be worthy for her to use.

The pair of mattresses on the broken bed still looked good and tested them, Ski found them still worth using. A smacking to get the dust out and some blankets or sheets and it would be perfect. So pushing them to a corner near a window and away from the door, Ski went on the hunt for blankets and sheets. Soon finding them in a closet with the door half broken off; pillows inside as well. From the rest of the home Ski accrued a small bedside table, trunk, some books, and some plastic to put over the holes in the glass. Also she found a series of lamps and lanterns for light; some dressy table side lambs while other more traveling type. Course with a simple spell she would have them burning as long as she wanted.

Set up at last after a few hours, defensive and detective spells all laid out Ski was falling into the bed she was lucky to have found. Staring up at the barren ceiling of crumbling plaster and bare wooden rafter. Sighing, she turned over and hugged the pillow to her; kicking off her heavy boots at the same time before pulling up the blankets and a heavy quilt to keep away the chill.

The thief's Nest was set.

"But there's no warmth here..." she murmured softly, almost mournfully, though Ski wouldn't allow herself to think that. "...not like at his home."

Closing her eyes, the lamps went out and the moonlight came in, helping Ski trivet off to sleep, her keen senses still on alert even in slumber.

Her attempted night at sleep ended up being a nap it would seem.

In the not too far distance, Ski woke to the sound of roaring and banging. A series of crashes that made her knew home shake slightly. Dislodging some of the dirt and dust nestled in the rafters. With a disgruntled groan Ski was awake and pissed off.

Grumbling and rubbing sleep from her eyes, Ski made it toward the bedroom door. She was on the second floor of a three story building. From the third there was an entrance to the roof and once there she was staring at the barrier not to far off. Human and other races couldn't see it like she could. Her demon eyes keen on just what the barrier was and what it did. And what was behind it wasn't just her mind playing tricks on her.

Demons were fighting...fighting for freedom and escaping. Oh fun...more demons for her to kill and wipe the floor with. Grounding her fangs together, she growled low for a moment before raising her head and voice.

"Can't you god damn beast shut up!! People are trying to sleep here you bastards!!"
she yelled loudly, not caring if others on this side of the barrier heard. If they did hear and how pissed off Ski was they would grow a brain and not come near her.

With that, Ski headed off back to bed, to lay there now, wide awake and bored out of her mind.

"Now are you sure that someone is camping here?" A voice called from the shadows of Northeast, and a second shadow popped up behind the first.

Their uniforms were alike. A leather and padded armor covered their chest and torso, their arms covered in a latex as well as their lower body. Their shoulders were guarded by padded armors, and an insigna of the SSDD was engraved in the leather at the center of their chest.

"Yes. Not to long ago I saw a robed figure scout through the buildings here. I am to believe that they are resting in that building." The SSDD member informed, gesturing to a building where a power was emitting.

"...You feel that, right? Their feeble but you should be wary. Spells have been cast there. It's meant to keep the low class away but with the energy used it serves as a beacon for detectors."

The other SSDD member nodded.

"...Do not approach whoever it is. Wait, gain intellegence and keep me updated. I will return for an update; for now your orders are to remain here and keep on eye on this individual. Be wary - we don't know what he or she can be planning." With that the high ranking SSDD member dismissed himself, and the other gave a nod and stared at the buildling.

What could they be doing?.. In that single though the SSDD stared at the barrier, then disappeared into the shadows of other buildings.

With a resounding growl of frustration, Ski sat up quickly. Teal colored hair flailing and her fists pounding into the mattress and sheets. She was tired and irritated but because of the noisy a** demons on the other side of the barrier and her keen hearing there was no sleep for the half-demon that night. All she could hear were the roars in the distance, droning everything out.

She had dealt and slept through worse, but she blamed it on the restless feelings and her general up rightness of being awake. And snapping her fingers the lamps and candles burst into life with flames that were bright and lit up the single room of the three story rundown mansion.

Nestled in her window now, she stared up at the sky through the window for a moment. Staring and admiring the openness of the moonlit blanket of stars. It was just begging her to fly in it...perhaps she should.

"Flying sounds better then sitting around here on my a**..." she grumbled to herself.

With little else to do, the half-demon made her way to the roof once more. The gentle night breeze teasing the ends of her long mane of hair. It took just a small whisper of magic and Ski was sprouting her bat-like wings again; finished off with a talon on the tips and their span as long as she was tall if not larger. All it took was a few flaps of her wings and she was up in the air, hair and cloak flowing in the wind.

Heading toward the barrier as it were, she soon took a slow lazy loop around coming toward her place to fly right over it and her destination the town. More specifically the university.

"Time to see just how much damage I did," she said with an amused smirk.
