The place was barren...and mass of destruction. And this was only the edge of the Northeast. On the edge of the barrier that held literally hell at pay it seemed. Wondering the the near deserted streets like she was, she could feel the tension and the pain in the air. The eeriness of what the barrier held at pay. A mere spell holding all the madness at bay...sounded familiar to Ski's ears.
She had been walking around for a while, checking out the mildly respectable places she could set up her place. Still standing buildings that looked to still have a the ability to stand for some time too. There were a number of them...but they were either taken, invested with rats or cockroaches...or holey for that matter. But now as she walked up a pair of creaky yet sturdy stair to a what appeared to be once an hold house now empty. Dusty, musty and dark, complete with cobwebs and everything; except rats and cockroaches.
Searching, Ski had only found only one room that was sleep worthy in this place. An old bedroom, it looked like by the broken wooden frame. Across the room adjacent to the bed was a hefty vanity complete with a mirror; a cracked mirror. A book case in another corner. There was a few windows that luckily were mostly whole. Allowing the sun to come in and keep most of the unpleasant elements away. Pushing down her hood Ski looked up at the rafters that showed.
"This'll work...just have to set up a little nest and a few defenses spells and this place will be as good as any."
Defensive spells will keep the weak and the cowardly away. Anything more she would deal with her fists. And with that in mind, the game was on to find just what she could find or steal that would be worthy for her to use.
The pair of mattresses on the broken bed still looked good and tested them, Ski found them still worth using. A smacking to get the dust out and some blankets or sheets and it would be perfect. So pushing them to a corner near a window and away from the door, Ski went on the hunt for blankets and sheets. Soon finding them in a closet with the door half broken off; pillows inside as well. From the rest of the home Ski accrued a small bedside table, trunk, some books, and some plastic to put over the holes in the glass. Also she found a series of lamps and lanterns for light; some dressy table side lambs while other more traveling type. Course with a simple spell she would have them burning as long as she wanted.
Set up at last after a few hours, defensive and detective spells all laid out Ski was falling into the bed she was lucky to have found. Staring up at the barren ceiling of crumbling plaster and bare wooden rafter. Sighing, she turned over and hugged the pillow to her; kicking off her heavy boots at the same time before pulling up the blankets and a heavy quilt to keep away the chill.
The thief's Nest was set.
"But there's no warmth here..." she murmured softly, almost mournfully, though Ski wouldn't allow herself to think that. "...not like at his home."
Closing her eyes, the lamps went out and the moonlight came in, helping Ski trivet off to sleep, her keen senses still on alert even in slumber.
