Finals were one week away. Paul had just moved out of the dorms, but found himself back at Sovereign Heights for exactly that reason: Finals were exactly one week away. Studying was paramount. He had to study, and pass, so he could get the hell out of Sovereign and go to DCU.

So why the hell was he in the music rooms again, playing piano?

Mostly because if he spent another minute studying the musculature of the human female, he was going to explode. Messily. Everywhere. Or else go nuts and try to kill them all, and probably get through about two or three before he realized he was pulling an Edward Cullen and turned himself in. He simply could not understand why people would find the skinned human form so appealing or necessary to study! He personally preferred his friends and relations with their skins on. Especially as relating to him. He didn't like the sight of exposed viscera. At all.

So why was he on the fast track to being a neurosurgeon? Well... because his parents told him to. Playing piano, therefore, could be construed as an act of rebellion--when it was actually just an act to preserve sanity--

His good mood ruined by one too many mistakes, he slammed his hands on the keys and put his head against the fallboard of the baby grand, elbows against the ********," he said.

A lot of her class mates where attending this place next year so she thought she might as well and check it out. She had no interest in coming here to study; she was sure as hell next year her focus would be to get a job. However that did not mean she did not want to explore and satisfy the curiosity that was itching in the back of her mind.

She wondered down the halls in disguise. She knew that she was not really meant to be here, however she was blending in well enough, a mixture of tall heals and delicately placed make-up gave her the appearance of someone of the age of nineteen, she did this a lot when she wanted to get served and the seventeen year old thanked the lord that she looked older than she was anyway, on the tall side and pretty slim besides her curves.

She was wearing a pencil skirt and blouse, her hair which was usually in pigtails was down and a lot neater than usual. Her plan was working; no one expected a thing; only if her attempted invasion of Hillsworth went so well...

She stopped and heard a loud noise coming from a room, she slowly opened the door to see someone in distress, and she tilted her head. She was curious, Tali never did anything to be nice, and even if her actions might be read that way truly she had her own reasons. Talking to a good looking boy was good enough for her any day.

She smiled and walked into the room candy eyes scanning the figure under vibrant pink bangs. She put a hand on his shoulder and looked down upon him.

“Hey, is everything okay?”

If Paul had known tours were going today, he definitely would have stayed home to study. Maybe that was why he hadn't been able to concentrate earlier, the increased noise level? No matter. He found himself flinching back from the touch of someone's hand, and then he uncurled from his place against the piano. "Everything's fine," he said after a minute, setting his hands back on the keys. What should he play, he wondered, and he settled on the Larghetto in D minor. Calming, even if he'd rather be playing something else. What he needed was calm.

He'd also missed his morning tai chi time, so... there was that.

"I'm sorry if I disturbed you, miss," he said, perfectly polite--though, was that a thrum of discontent in his voice? Yes, that it was. Paul frowned; maybe tonight he'd head out as Spinel for a bit. Blow off some steam, maybe. But wait, didn't he have to--with his roommate--it bothered him that he couldn't remember. "I haven't seen you around. Are you here on the tours?"

“Someone does not curse that loud and slam keys for no reason. Whatever it is, I am sure it will turn out okay in the end.”

She smiled and wondered around to lean against the piano, her eyes turned to examine him some more, he had managed to compose himself very quickly. She tucked some hair behind her ear and gave a small chuckle.

“You have not disturbed me. There is no need to apologise and please call me Tali.”

She nodded her head; she was not doing anything anyway, just wondering around quite aimlessly. In fact he had saved her, this was way more interesting. She preferred to be with company especially if the company was as good looking as this guy. Older guys were so cute!

“No we have not met, my name is Talim Nimmba and I am just looking around. Not with the tours, I hate to feel like I am restricted or being carted around, I would rather lead myself. You learn more that way, when the voices of others do not taint your opinions.”

She never really liked doing the normal thing, follow the leader never taught her much, and she wanted to get to know this place. Not learn what the people wanted her to see. Plus listening to someone ramble on was so dull and boring. She tilted her head, her fringe falling over one of her eyes. She hoped she was not bothering him.

“You play wonderfully; the piano is such a romantic instrument, so you study music here?”

She asked, he was clearly talented, so she just assumed that was the case.

He flushed, embarrassed. Surely he hadn't been that loud. He certainly hadn't shouted... He had been rather preoccupied. Perhaps he'd just... underestimated his volume? In which case, he should apologize again. The dark-haired man was turning a bit to do just that when she said it was unnecessary; it sounded, to him, like she wanted to move on in the conversation, so he dropped it. There was no need to make someone else uncomfortable, after all.

"Tali. It's a pleasure to meet you." Even if he did wish it had been under better circumstances. Circumstances where he did not smash keys, and curse. Yes, that would have been nice. Not the best first impression to make on anyone, ever. "Paul Wyndham. It's always seemed better to go along with the tour, and then go around by yourself. At least, to me."

Paul frowned, taking his hands off the key to run a hand over his hair. He'd been thinking of cutting the ponytail, but he enjoyed having it. "No, I'm on the pre-medical track. I'll be graduating in January. Early. What are you looking to study?"

“Paul, am I alone? Why have a person tell us about the teachers view of the school when the eyes of the student tell much more.”

She winked and stuck out her tongue slightly in a very playful manor
.
“Ooh a doctor? I bet that’s one to impress the ladies. The countless mothers what have told their daughters to marry one must be beyond infinity by this point. Especially one with a face as handsome as yours”

It was true as all the movies and books in the world suggested, everyone was after a good looking doctor. Good in bed and earning enough to keep you at home and in fine clothes. Stories like that made her chuckle slightly; there was just something so old school about them. A smile crept onto her face.

“You do have a musical talent though.”

She nodded, he must be one of those people who where talented in many things, maybe he was stressed, I mean that indeed seemed like a very difficult course to study.

“Oh, no I am not looking to study anything. I came here because I was curious, to see what it was like. I am going into employment this coming summer. Good luck with your exams though.”

She explained, sure it might be a job in HMV however she was hoping to own her own game store one day. Just because she did not want to stay in education did not mean she failed to have big ambitions.

She was... overly familiar. That was the nicest way he could think of to say it; she was overly familiar, and it made him a little bit uncomfortable. Still, Paul held his ground, quirking a small smile at the dark-haired girl. It wasn't as sincere as the smiles he gave to Vera or Vivianite, or even as polite as the ones given to his cousin's girlfriend. Just a smile, a vague one and a little crooked besides, accompanied by a red tint around his ears. Paul, embarrassed? Say it wasn't so!

"You won't get much from me, then," he said. His hands were folded in his lap as he slouched inelegantly at the piano. There was still a certain need to keep up appearances, even if this girl wasn't going to be joining her peers in tertiary education. "I'm a rather staunch advocate of getting your degree while you can, yeah? Even just an associate's degree can be a lot of help in your attempts to get a job or holding on to one."

After a moment, he added, "Thanks. I appreciate it." For the good luck and the acknowledgement of his musical ability.

“Maybe. I am not too sure what I am going to do with my life. I just know that sitting in lectures and listening to old people ramble on never did anything for me. I like to get my hands dirty and experience things first hand. I mean as stupid as it sounds, I came up with my own way of answering the questions in exams, working things out for yourself does teach you a lot more than it does if you are just copying someone else’s method.”

She explained, she was very set in her own ways. She was yet to find something she was passionate enough about to dedicate her life to and until she did she would rather stay in limbo than start on one path to change direction. She has always said she wanted to own her own Game Store, however she was still up for change. There was another option she had been considering... however it was dangerous and she had not yet decided if she would offer herself to recruitment.

“So what inspired you to be a doctor? The money? The Challenge or do you just like the idea of helping people? Personally I cannot stand hospitals; I am one of those girls who are terrified of needles. I was always bribed with loli pops, something to keep my mouth shut whilst they jabbed me.”

She laughed, sliding her hand across the smooth piano top and sitting by the side of the boy, looking at him from the corner of her eye with a small smirk painted across her face.

Dum-Dum.

She played on the keys, repeating it into the jaw’s theme, it’s the only thing she ever learned, when she was bored at a friend’s. Her musical ability was none; however it always seemed to put a smile on peoples face. She raised a eyebrow and put her hands on her lap.

School wasn't supposed to do anything for you, he thought to himself; it was supposed to educate you and give you the knowledge you needed to succeed. You couldn't really do anything worthwhile, nowadays, without a college degree--Bill Gates nonwithstanding. He might have been a dropout, but his parents made more money than God and could afford for him to take a year off. Not everyone was that intelligent or that lucky, and it wasn't a good idea to bet on something like that happening.

It'd be rude to ignore her, so he gave her a bit of a pained smile. Seriously, if all you could play on the piano was the Jaws theme, you might as well not torment the poor instrument. "My mother," he said, in direct answer to her question as he brushed Talim's hands away from his instrument and set about playing another song--slower, but definitely recognizable as a piano adaptation of Taylor Swift's 'Love Story'. Slightly embarrassing, but it was the only thing he could remember. "She likes the idea of having a doctor for a son, and I'm her only child, so." The pained smile turned slightly sardonic.
