Galahad had rose early this morning wanting to be fully awake and prepared for when the pack took the various teens out on their last hunting training before the winter set it. The air was cold this morning, it had been getting colder each day but today it held a particular chill to it that took quite some time to warm up from. Winter no doubt was just around the corner so they had best take advantage of the so far snow free lands to do this one last hunt. It had been a while since he first came to YMCA under great injury from saving young Arii from a bear attack but since that time Chivosi had tended to his wounds until he was strong again. Now he was back to being at full strength, and had been for some time now, but had chosen to stay her in the pack instead of moving on. It seemed like a good idea since the pack was a bit under stress with having only one alpha to oversee things. However Galahad helped out whenever and wherever he could, always willing to ease the burden on those who were overworked.

As he stood in the opening where the other wolves were to gather for the hunt he took stock of who was going and who was staying. A good chunk of the pack was headed out, however he made sure with a mental count that enough wolves were staying behind to ensure the pack land was not completely abandoned as well as having enough eyes to watch Aleu who was nearing the end of her pregnancy and could not attend the hunt. There seemed to be enough bodies staying that they would have little to worry about, though he knew from the looks in that females eyes that part of her wished to go along, he would make sure a nice chunk of their prey was brought back to her to make up for being left behind. He waited silently for Chivosi and the other wolves to finish gathering, soon they would need to head out if they were to come back by nightfall.

Corvus had spent the morning with his sons, ensuring them that he would be back as soon as the hunt was over. They had grown a lot since they first came here but on occasion still needed to be reassured over such things, especially Lichen. How badly did he want his sons to go on this hunt, but Lichen was still far to shy and frightful to take out and Bracken, well it was best that he stay here to look after his brother. Padding to the meeting area Corvus nodded to those who were already gathered and waited for instructions.

Having barely slept the night because he was too excited about the idea of going on a large hunt Iolaus yawned as he made his way to the meeting spot. Already some of the wolves had arrived and he could see more coming. Giving his head a good shake in an attempt to rid himself of the sleepy feeling he rolled onto his haunches and looked about for his brothers. He hoped that today would be the day he would stand out, the day that he would be the leader of their sibling group instead of the perpetual follower that he had somehow become. His eyes searched for his father and grandmother, Terreis was not coming along on this trip so he didn't need to worry about impressing her, but he still wished to show the rest of his family how his skills had developed over the summer.

Aleu lay just outside of the den her and Verse shared now looking quite miserable. She wanted to go on the hunt, but was far too fat to do so, plus she was very close to the end of her pregnancy and as such was pretty much confined to the den site. Of course she also wanted Verse to stay but understood at the same time that this would be the last big hunt for the pack before the winter snows came and she would not let him miss that no matter how much it pained her to see him leave. All she kept doing is reminding herself that he would only be gone for a few hours, he would be back before night fall.

Sighing Aleu laid her head on her paws and watched as the wolves gathered and got ready to head out. She could feel the pups kicking occasionally as if they too were protesting against their father leaving and that made her smile just a bit. So many of the pack were leaving, but there were a good few staying, Terreis had opted to stay behind and look after Aleu which had surprised her as she knew that Terreis would want to have participated in the hunt. Perhaps the splotchy female was finally breaking through her anti-friendly shell that she seemed to wear since joining the pack. Either way Aleu was grateful to have her around, as well as the others.

Chivosi had meant to be at this event earlier on, but lat minute preparations had taken longer then expected and so by the time she arrived a good number had already assembled. Ah well - consulting with Pyxis had been worth the time, the purple lynx was pretty good at predicting the weather and had warned the alpha of an upcoming storm..though surely they would return before it came. This was not meant to be a long hunt after all, simply one last training exercise before the weather made things too difficult.

Galahad had already arrived Chivosi noted and gave him a small smile - she would be forever grateful to him for saving Merrill's girl though she was a bit surprised he had decided to stay on...though not sorry for it as he had proven to be a big help and she rather liked him? Liked..yes it was the proper word. Liked.

Corvus too was here and she nodded to him - the green wolf had grown much since his sons had arrived, matured and become a true help to his pack - if only his children could forget thier ill treatment and come out of their shells a bit more. She shook her head to clear such sad thoughts from her mind and paused by Aleu to give her an encouraging lick "New time love" She told her daughter encouragingly "You have more important things to see to right now"

GLancing at the last wolf here so early she smiled at Iolaus - the teen had a look about him which said he had something to prove. Teens and their priorities he thought to herself with a chuckle. The others should be trickling in soon and she sat down to wait on them before announcing the plan for the hunt.

Ki-Adi was one of the wolves who had elected to stay behind and help on the homestead, she was no longer skittish about her packmates of course - but that didn't mean she wanted to go wandering about on the edge of their territory either...besides with young Aleu so very close it would be good to have a gentler female on hand. Terreis was experienced yes..but she could be a bit abrasive at times and Aleu had been so emotional since she'd been with pups. Still she showed up to wish her pack well and to sit beside Aleu who looked to be feeling bad abut not coming along.

Derecho had spent a bit of extra time saying his good-byes to Terreis, he knew she wanted to come along, but also knew the wisdom of having a strong wolf stay behind to look after things..and certainly he wished to see their son's hunt more then she did, though perhaps the boys were a bit dissapointed.

Still Terreis was staying to keep an eye on Aleu and Derecho could not fault her on that, his sister was far too important tohim to risk leavig her alone without someone capable about to help..and there were few wolves in the pack more capable of protecting someone then his Terreis! nuzzling his mother as he arrived he nudged Aleu as well before taking a seat along with the others.

Verse arrived with a peace offering for Aleu - he knew she was disappointed about not being able to come along, and part of him worried about leaving her given how close she was - but Ki-adi' gentle presence and the knowledge that Terreis was staying reassured him somewhat. settling down beside his mate he laid a pigeon at her feet - the birds were notoriously hard to catch and quite tender. He was sure she would like it.

Apollo was more then excited, this was to be the last big hunt of the year, the last chance for he and his brothers to prove themselves as teens, by the time spring rolled around they would have filled out..grown...and be expected to handle duties appropriate for an adult in the pack. He was sure that he and his brother would rise to he challenge and settled beside Iolaus to wait for further instructions.

User Image Adonai had volunteered to come along for a few reasons. One, because he suspected being nearly alone in the pack with his estranged daughter may be inviting disaster upon himself. Another, because in his heart he wanted to get a chance to become part of his grandson's lives. And, besides, hunting was something Adonai did rather well if he did say so himself.

Moving with his usual genteel swagger, Adonai came up alongside the others, tail giving a slow wag of greeting as he nodded to everyone. Most of the faces assembled here he had come to know, though others were strangers to him. Well, not for much longer he thought.

User Image Balios had been off exploring and had quite lost track of time, until the sun situated itself over his head and reminded him -- rather forcefully -- of how late it already was. With a yelp, the young wolf bolted upright and tore off for the meeting location, absolutely terrified that he was too late and everyone had left without him.

When he came into view of the others, he nearly collapsed in relief. "Iolaus!" He called, trotting up to his brother, giving him a grin. He'd always been especially fond of Iolaus. "Are you excited?"

User ImageWhat was wrong with her? At the beginning of winter Merrill had been her usual self, if not more "peppy" with the coming of the cold winds that reminded her of home - even if the YMCA territory was further south from that. Patrols had gone as planned, nothing of terrible consequence occurred (unless you counted it terrible that the surly Terreis found her father, or the near-accident with Arianna and the bear). The latter was still imprinted at the back of her mind, but back then Merrill had merely shrugged it off, lectured her daughter extensively, and kept a closer restraint upon Mavican and Camille; or rather, she tried. Whether that made an impact on the trio, she hoped to see on this hunt.

And yet this ritual was not bringing her as great eagerness as it should have. A sort of heaviness was in the beta's heart, making her frequently aloof or curt when in bouts of moodiness. Merrill couldn't identify where it came from, but it certainly frustrated her as she approached the group, her daughters trotting with her.

They were late. Merrill never was late, even given her afternoon naps.

User ImageArii knew something was bothering Mama, but as usual she didn't want to pry the tough woman open. Indeed she had her own issues to deal with before the hunt, mainly those concerning courage and skill . . . and probably many, many other self-image problems the girl was known to have. Several wolves probably had bet she would cry sometime on this trip, Arii just knew it . . .

Thing was, they were probably right.

But this was supposed to be the day the adolescents proved themselves ready to become adults - a rite of passage basically. If she botched this up in any manner, not only would Mama scold her, but none of the pack would think of her as an adult . . . So much pressure on the fragile girl! Arianna would rather have been cheering them on with Aleu and Ki-Adi and Partridge and everyone else who was staying behind.

She watched the boys grin and jostle each other about in eagerness, ears drooping.

User ImageTantalus was impassive on the whole ordeal, mostly because he was pretty sure he and his brothers were going to make it just fine no matter what happened. It was just a matter of following orders, getting it done and then eating. Man, that sounded nice. He wondered if maybe they could fell a whole deer or two, given the size of the hunting party . . .

He was sitting by Apollo, the brother he currently liked the most, saying nothing as he watched everyone trickle in. Iolaus looked half-asleep when he sat for too long - Tan had heard his nightly tossings, probably wrapped up with excitement at the hunt and too hyped to sleep. The idiot. And of course Balios being Balios, he encouraged their jittery brother like it was just fine to be going on only several hours of sleep on something like this.

Mmf. He gave Apollo a roll of the eyes to indicate his feelings about their brothers, wanting to just do this already. Come one, even the beta was late! And even more perfect, there were the trio of yellow and gold whelps with her.

Arianna caught his eye for a moment, and his lip twitched into a wicked smirk that made her shudder.

Galahad bowed his head in greetings to Chiv. He had a lot of respect for her running the pack all by herself, well there was Merrill the beta to help out, but even so being the single Alpha of the pack he had seen her under a bit of stress lately. That was why he had decided to stay, to help out and because he had to admit he enjoyed the company of most of the wolves in the pack as well. His eyes swept over the others as they arrived giving each a polite nod in turn. He was most interested to see each teens reaction as they arrived at the slowly growing group of wolves. Some looked like they were ready to take on the world, others seemed to not care what was going on and a few looked like they would rather be staying here than join in on the activities. Such diversity made the pack an interesting place to live and made sure there was never a dull moment.

Corvus settled down and sat while looking upon those who were still arriving. It would be good for the majority of the pack to work together on this, he did wish that his sons could attend but there were already enough teens to look after and his two would only add to the stress, next year, he told himself, next year they would attend to the hunts.

Iolaus watched as first Apollo and then Balios arrived. He flashed Apollo a smile and then turned his attention to Balios. "Yeah!" He stated confidently, he was definitely excited about this. Then he lowered his voice a bit and spoke to his brother. "I have a good feeling about this hunt. I bet I will be the one to bring the prey down." He boasted and honestly was hoping such a thing would happen, that would certainly turn all the pack attention to him and give him the chance to be in the lime light.

He looked at Adonai for a moment, the wolf who was his grandfather but he had yet to really get to know him. Mother had not seemed too pleased since the semi-splotchy wolf had arrived, but then again Terreis rarely seemed pleased about much. Perhaps he could earn some approval during this hunt, both with his mother and his grandfather, he knew that his father would be proud of him no matter what. When Tan showed up he saw he didn't seem too eager to be here, oh well more chance for him to get some attention anyways.

Aleu gave her mother a small smile. "I know." As much as she wanted to go Aleu knew that the most important thing for her right now was to stay here at the dens with those few who decided to stay behind with her, that way she and her unborn pups would be safe. While not many were staying behind those few that were doing so were currently Aleu's favorites of the pack. As Ki-Adi settled down beside her Aleu gave the shy wolfess a nudge silently thanking her for staying behind. Shifting slightly to get in a more comfortable position Aleu looked up lovingly as Verse sat down beside her and laid the pigeon at her feet. She gave her mate a lick across the cheek. "Promise me you will be safe." The last thing she wanted was for anything to happen to Verse on this hunting trip.

Laying her head against Verse shoulder Aleu laid contently while the others still arrived to prepare to head out. Soon she would need to let Verse go but for now she relished in his warmth and presence.

Mother had been acting a bit...well strange lately. But Mavican wasn't one to dwell on such things for long, right now they had to get to the meeting so they could head out on this hunt. She had been following closely behind her mother and siblings when something caught her attention from the corner of her eye. Of course she had to stop and look at it. Turned out it was just a brightly colored rock against the dark browns of the forest floor. When her attention turned back to things her mother had gotten a good deal ahead. "Wait for me, I'm coming!" She called out and hurried to catch up.

Mavican was impressed by how many pack members were gathered at the moment. She knew the pack was large but rarely were all, or the majority of them, in one place at the same time. Finding a spot beside her mother the purple and gold teen looked out at all the faces, tail thumping happily on the ground. "So what we doing?" She asked cheerfully having fully forgotten about the hunt already.

User Image
Terreis had stayed at the den she shared with Derecho after he had said his goodbyes. But now, she could see the assembled wolves were nearly all present among those that were going on the hunt, and even a few whom were staying behind had gathered. She was somewhat reluctant to join them, but after a few moments decided to at least get closer. Her silent paws carried her to where Aleu, Verse and Ki-Adi were sitting just outside of the ring of the others. Settling down onto her haunches Terreis looked about. Most of her sons were going on this hunt, part of her wished to go and see them, see if they were any good, but with Merrill and Chivosi both going she had opted to stay behind with Aleu as she was the only other female in the pack who had birthing experience.

Honestly it wasn't the most ideal situation ever but she would do what she could for her pack, she just had to think of Aleu as one of the northern Sisters and that made it more acceptable to her to play midwife. Her eyes settled on Adonai for a fleeting moment and they instantly went cold. Terreis had still not accepted him into her life and was irked that he was sticking around. Probably had to do something with not only Iosef up north, but her own sons as well. Giving her head a slight shake Terreis turned to look at Derecho, he should be pleased that she was at least here to see them all off.

Camille couldn't wait for this hunt to get going - it would be the perfect opportunity to make her mother see that she didn't need to be sent off to some other pack to 'learn' anything. She was perfectly capable of doing things right here - as long as she could keep her sisters in line..a thought which crossed her mind as just about the same time that Mav asked what they were doing. Camille wanted to box her in the ears but settled with growling quietly in her ear "We're going on a hunt Mav...try to focus" She plead...a plea that was likely useless but hell she had to try right? And if Ari cried..or even look like she was going to cry Camille swore..she really would box her ears!

They really were carrying on like a bunch of puppies Apollo had to agree with Tantalus about that fact and returned the eyeroll with one of his own. If they'd all just settle down they could be on their way already - all this sitting around was hardly getting them anywhere and now that Merrill was here there didn't seem to be much of a reason for lollygagging about anymore.

"I'll be fine" Verse promised Aleu quietly as she laid against him "Look how many wolves are going? What could possibly happen with so many of us looking out for one another?" He pointed out - sure hunting could be dangerous - especially when they were gong after large game but with such a large group the dangers would be significantly reduced "It's mostly a training run for the boys and Merrill's girls anyways" He reminded her.

Derecho glanced at his mate as she came to see them off, throwing her a proud smile before turning his attention to the youngsters - whose excitement was showing as they jostled and chatted "Settle down now" He ordered them all "Or we'll ever get to leaving" He warned, striding along the line of eager teens in an attempt to get them to pay attention.

Speaking of the more abrasive Terreis it seemed she had decided to come along and wish everyone off as well and now that Merrill had managed to corral her young and bring them along then surely things would start happening now. Ki-adi swung her gaze towards Chivosi anticipating the Alpha would start to get things moving now.

Chivosi waited as the mingling wolves greeted one another - jostled for a place to sit beside those they were closest too and otherwise milled about - she was content to let them visit while she waited.

Thankfully she didn't have to wait to long - Merrill appeared with her three in tow and the group was as complete as it was likely to get, at least the entire hunting party had arrived which was the most important thing in this endeavor. Still she waited until Derecho had settled the teens and a lull of sorts fell over the pack's chatter.

Standing she made her way to the front of the group and looked at them all in turn - they were a large pack, much larger then she had ever anticipated leading ..but they were vibrant and healthy and strong and a leader couldn't ask for much more in a pack. "It has been a long year for everyone gathered here" She told the wolves before her "We've had our challenges yes...and we've lost wolves along the way..but we've made new friends to the North, gained new partners, grown...and welcomed newcomers. It has been a long year..but the good outweighs any bad that has come our way and we should all be thankful for such things. It is only our success as a pack..as friends and comrades that allows us to lead a hunt such as this, that allows us to leave the central lands and range so very far without much worry about the safety of those left behind or the pack lands themselves. We have much to be proud of and much to look forward to and each and every one of you have had a hand in making it so...and I am very proud to call you all my family"

She paused for a few moments to let her word filter through the gathered wolves before continuing "And so without any more preamble I'll lay out the hunt - we shall be traveling to the very boarders of our territory where migrating herds of elk pass through, the herds movements are not set in stone and so we might have a bit of a wait and a bit of a search before we find them, but we shall endeavor to do so and return home with enough meat to see us through a good part of the winter season. We shall be hunting in some of the rougher lands in our care so we must all watch out for one another...but I'm sure it will be fun for all regardless. Say any good-byes you have left and we shall be off"

Adonai seated himself, eyes on Chivosi as she spoke. He remained politely silent throughout the speech, though he couldn't help but feel that certain degree of alienation that comes from being the only newcomer to a tight band of friends. He was welcome here -- at least, by everyone but his daughter -- but he still felt very much like an outsider.

His eyes wandered over his assembled grandsons, brow furrowing. He was missing one. He wondered vaguely where the last pup was, and why he wasn't here, but didn't bring it up for fear of looking like an idiot. So instead he looked back patiently to the alpha -- extended family now, he thought, in the strangest sort of way -- and smiled helpfully. Hunting. Yes. Let's get this show on the road.

Balios grinned back at his brother. "Yeah," he said, encouragingly, "I bet you will." He honestly didn't think that was very likely -- elk were, after all, substantially bigger than any of them and unlikely to come down from any single attack -- but he figured Iolaus needed to boost.

He glanced sidelong at his other brothers, and sighed a little. The older they got, the deeper the rift between them seemed to be growing; it always seemed that, in any situation, Apollo and Tantalus were on one side of it, with himself and the others opposite them. He didn't want it to be that way. "Wish Corinth were coming," he said, and surprised himself when he realized he'd said it aloud. Balios had always been oddly close to his chubby, meek little brother. He was glad on the one hand that they'd allowed him to stay behind -- knowing him he'd probably get hurt or something -- but on the other hand, Arii was here, and if she could do this, so could Corinth. Ah well.

Maybe he was keeping Lichen and Bracken company. That was a comforting thought. Balios made a quick mental note to bring home a treat of some kind for the three teens that weren't coming, and then diverted his attention back to his grandmother, eyes shining with excitement. She was giving a speech! Oh, Balios loved speeches. He hoped one day he could give great, powerful speeches too, and have people listen.

Thankfully there wasn't any verbal mention of their tardiness. One hurdle down and . . . Right on cue, Mavican reminded them of her absentmindedness. Spirits, grant me patience . . . Sometimes Merrill wondered what she had done to deserve the misfortune of running into Tierehl. Not that she didn't appreciate her children, but . . . Even the most normal one of the group, Camille, was beginning to run a streak of manipulating the opposite sex that was disapproving.

Maybe each had such a problem because her union to create them had not bee approved of by the deities. Now wasn't the time to be thinking this, however. Nor was it her place to query after the fifth son's presence; maybe his parents hadn't deemed him ready for such an activity. Just as she had done for her own son . . . It was easy to forget she had given birth to one.

She shrugged off the looming feeling plaguing her and focused.

Merrill had no other blood family to say her goodbyes to, but there still remained Aleutian. Parting from her children, the beta approached the swollen-bellied female and Verse. "No worries, Minstrel, I wouldn't let him get killed so easily," she assured her, guessing from their contact that she was worried after her mate's health. "That'd put a big bother on the whole rescue-him-as-a-pup deal, now wouldn't it." Not to mention she knew that one parent raising several pups was a sorry sight; she wouldn't dare deny the kids their father like hers had been.

Merrill then turned to Terreis, whom she guessed was itching to have been part of the hunt - or at least had been before she saw her father in the group. "Something in the air tells me we might get rain soon. Take care not to let it get too wet in her den, or you both'll be chilled to the bone." There was already an implication of respect for the former Amazonian - so of course it only left the beta's concerns to give words to. To be honest, Merrill thought Terreis was a more trustworthy midwife than Ki-Adi despite the skittish femme's longer time in the pack.

The look Camille sent Mavican reminded Arii of how quickly they could both be boxed if they did something wrong. She felt a little better that Mavican was the first to do so at least. So now they were saying goodbyes? But . . . She didn't really have anyone to say goodbye to. Mama was already talking to some of the alpha's family and their uncle's mate, so . . . so who did that leave?

Well there was the big green guy she couldn't remember the name of, the one Mama avoided a lot back in the day. Didn't he have teens too? She wondered why they weren't there today . . . And she too noticed that the chubby son from Uncle Derecho was missing. Did they have excuses? She wished she had one . . .

Half of those sons looked broody, and the other half looked happy enough without her interfering, though she wished she could join; she wanted compliments but for some reason was too shy to go to them and ask for some reassurance like Balios was giving his brother. Then again, Arianna was beginning to see boys in a new light, and it made things for her awkward.

Not knowing Ki-Adi or the pink-nosed adult very well, and with the alpha being the alpha and all, that left the skittish teen one choice left. Quietly she padded to Galahad's side and sat down next to him, looking at her paws. Indeed Arii had developed a girlish crush on her hero, though again there was a generational gap and her own inadequacies that helped to add to her nervousness. "S-So, um . . . D-D-Do you really think w-we'll get an e-elk?" she muttered.

Yeah, tell that to them, Tantalus thought as their father calmed them down. Seriously, what was the big deal? An elk didn't sound so tough, not with all of them to chase and kill it. Follow a few orders, run around, howl, bite, bring back to camp: the end. Congrats, you're officially adults or something.

He caught Balios's comment about Corinth and snorted softly. "He wouldn't be able to handle it anyway," he commented, actually feeling like talking since he was reassured by Apollo's mutual eyerolling that at least someone sympathized with him. "Let him sleep like a puppy like he wants while the real men go hunting."

Watching the last few arrive and the reactions of some of the others Galahad tried to determine just how well this hunt would go. Galahad stood quietly and respectfully as Chivosi addressed the pack. His head bobbed slightly at her words, this pack was very much like one big extended family even if only a handful of wolves were actually related. And much like any family there were squabbles and disagreements, those who got along and those who outwardly showed they did not. It made the environment all more welcoming to know that even in a pack like this such things did exist, it proved that these were your everyday wolves and Galahad appreciated that greatly.

When Chivosi was done and everyone began to say their goodbyes to those staying behind Galahad watched the young Camille approach him. He gave her a friendly smile as she sat down. "Of course." He told her confidently. He had seen Tantalus' reaction when she had arrived and knew she could use every bit of confidence and praise possible. "Just stick close to me and you'll be alright." Galahad would make sure to keep an eye on the young female and ensure than Tan left her alone on the hunt. It would do no good for her to get hurt, or anyone else for that matter, because of something small and insignificant.

Corvus glanced about after Chiv had finished speaking. Neither of his boys were here to bid farewell to, but they had had most of the morning to do so. Hopefully they would not be too bored while he was gone. So he stood where he was as others talked amongst themselves doing a quiet survey of the wolves that were staying and those who were leaving.

A big smile crossed Iolaus' maw but before he could say anything else his father was telling them all to be quiet and behave. Still his tailed wagged a bit as his grandmother spoke and his eyes glanced about in anticipation. To Iolaus' surprise even their mother showed up to see them off, though it looked like it would be a silent farewell as she sat a good distance away from the others. Still the fact that she even showed up told him that she did indeed care for him and his brothers just a bit, or perhaps she was just here for fathers benefit.

Aleu sighed but knew Verse was right. What could possibly happen on a hunt that involved so many wolves. Clearly she was just being overprotective due to her condition. Even so, Merrill's words did help to relieve some of the fears she was feeling. "I know Aunt Meme." The pups in her belly kicked with an even greater ferocity, and she smiled up at Verse. "Do you feel that?" She whispered to him. Aleu was certain that he had as the pups were kicking on the side that was pressed up against his. Giving her mate a long and loving nuzzle Aleu let out another sigh. "You better go. The sooner you leave the sooner you can come home." And Aleu would be counting the minutes while Verse was gone.

Mavican docked her ears at her sisters words but then a smile appeared and she wagged her tail once more. "Oh right a hunt!" How could she have forgotten? Mother had talked about how important it was earlier. She fell silent as Chivosi stepped forward to address the gathered wolves though no matter how hard she tried to keep her tail still the soft thumping of it hitting the ground could be heard. This was exciting, she couldn't wait to go out and hunt.

Catching Derecho's smile she returned it with one of her own, though it was smaller. Terreis watched as the wolves settled down and allowed Chivosi to speak. There was no pre-hunt ceremony here like there was in the northern pack but Terreis could see that Chivosi was rallying them all together, making them feel as one before they set out. When Merrill approached Terreis nodded at her words. "Don't worry, she will be taken care of and protected." Terrreis would protect Aleu, and Ki-Adi for that matter, as if they were one of her northern Sisters. Her eyes settled on her boys for a moment then back to Merrill. "Keep your eye on them for me." It was her way of saying that she wanted no harm to come to her sons and that Merrill should see to that being the Beta.

As the wolves milled about making their farewells Chivosi watched them all in silence - with the loss of Mene, Raiden and Tempest she quite honestly didn't have anyone to say farewell too - the remainder of her family with the exception of Aleu whom she'd already spoken with that morning were going along. The loss of Mene was still a sore spot for Chiv and recalling him now brought a touch of sadness to the Alpha's eyes - if only he had rallied himself as he'd promised..if only he had come through for her and pack..then he could have been leading this hunt with her.

It was not to be however and Chiv knew better then to dwell on the past, there was still much to look forward to in life. Even if she had to look forward to it alone.

At long last the good-byes were said the group stood ready to depart Chivosi let her eyes fall over them one more time to ensure all were ready, able and gathered before she led them off into the trees leaving those remaining behind to watch their shadows slowly disappear.

The pace she set was not a harsh one - but neither was it slow and by the time the sun had started to set they were well on their way to the furthest corners of their lands, the teens were all tired from the journey and feel asleep nearly as soon as temporary sleeping grounds were located, the older wolves spent some time going over the next days journey and the hunts plan before retiring for the night themselves. The next day was much the same although there was a bite to the air which worried Chiv a bit - winter was closing in on them fast and it was now a race against the deadline, find the elk, complete the hunt and return before the storms hit their forest home.

They couldn't turn back, not only was this a training hunt but one that would provide them with enough food in the harsh weather ahead, in any case they were nearly there and when they settled that night the hunting party had reached the very edges of their territory, tired..but all still present - even Mavican whom had wader off once or twice and had to be fetched back.

They were now on the edge of the Elk's typical trails and tomorrow..they would hunt. "At dawn we shall break into search parties and look for the herd" She announced as they settled in "Get a good nights sleep"

Adonai trailed behind the others for the majority of the hunt. Not because he was trying to be antisocial, but simply because years of wandering on his own had given him an independent streak. He had enjoyed the company of other wolves quite a lot in his life, but had also enjoyed his time of solitude -- and didn't really prefer one over the other.

He also kept his distance from the others so he could keep a pair of sharp golden eyes out on the young ones. Adonai may have had no hand in the raising of his own pups, but he felt a strong responsibility towards children of all ages. So he lingered at the rear to help herd Mavican back into the fray, or to intercede of any fights broke out amongst the brothers, or to step in if Ari looked like she was having a breakdown.

He was pleased, at the end of the evening, when he discovered that he didn't need to interfere nearly as much as he'd anticipated. As the journey wore down to the end -- funny how much longer it took in such a big group, he'd made many a jaunt to the borders before on patrol or just for the fun of wandering and it never seemed this time-consuming -- he found a place to pass the night some distance from the others. He didn't want to intrude, after all.

Yawning, the mostly-white wolf lowered himself to his belly and laid his maw on his forepaws, watching the others curiously.

Balios, on the other hand, couldn't get enough of socializing.

Balios was a true extrovert. He genuinely thrived off of the company of others, and being in a large group -- all of them mobilized for a single purpose -- filled him with absolute glee. He was without question the single happiest wolf alive at precisely that moment.

So he spent the majority of the day bounding ahead, trying to make small-talk with anybody who would have him, circling back, prancing around delightedly and chattering near-incessantly. It was by all accounts something of a miracle that nobody tried to stuff him into a tree before the end of it all.

Still, somewhat exhausted though he was by the end of the day, Balios's spirits were undampened. He flopped down beneath a tree, gave a tremendous yawn, and sprawled on his side, mind working a million miles an hour with the plans he had for tomorrow.

The journey out to the hunting lands was relatively uneventful. Sure they had to stop and fetch Mavican a couple of times when she wandered off, but other than that the group traveled well together and there was little to no complaints about the pace they were keeping up from the younger wolves. Still each night he could see how tired the teens were and was amused with how quickly they fell asleep.

When the arrived at the edge of the territory and began to settle down for the night Galahad made sure to triple check Mavican was here and was staying put. Satisfied that she was Galahad set off on his own to scout out ahead a bit. With quick paws he covered a good distance before settling down to watch the game trails. Sure enough he was rewards with the glimpse of a big strong elk. Good they were still around, he had worried that the quickly encroaching winter weather may have pushed them further out of the packs territory.

Galahad hurried back to where the rest of the wolves were sleeping, walking up to Chivosi he tipped his head and delivered his report. "There was an elk not far from here, along the nearest game trail. We should split into two groups, even at half power we should have no problem bringing down an elk when we find one." He suggested and not only that but breaking into two groups would also double their chances of a successful hunt and possibly allow them to bring home twice as much meat.

" That is what I was thinking a well" Chivosi confirmed "And it will give the young ones some more one on one time to learn" Preferably without the chaos a larger group would cause. "I will think on it tonight and announce the groups tomorrow" She told the other wolf, before resting her head upon her paws to do just that.

The next morning dawned cold - bitterly cold...and Chiv found herself thankful for the protection of her thick winter fur, there was some wind but it was not excessive yet and while there were some clouds on the horizan Chiv could only hope that they would have found the elk and completed the hunt before they moved in. Waking those of the pack whom were not already awake Chivosi gathered them all together.

"Galahad has spotted an elk not far from here - where there is one there are sure to be more,we will be splitting into two groups for the days hunt, one to go east the other to go west. The groups will be as follows..Myself and Galahad will take Derecho,Verse,Tantalus,Mavican and Camille to the east. Merrill and Corvus will lead Balios, iolaus,Apollo,Adonai and Arii to the west." She glanced at her fellow wolves to make sure they all knew their places "We will meet back here with our kills at dusk, you may leave when your group leaders are ready" She dismissed them all to begin gathering her own group with Galahad.
