Tonight was the night. There had been much preparation for this fateful day, preparation that resulted in the very strange sight of a Drifblim floating down the dorm halls clad in a top hat, two hastily sewn together jacket with both sets of coat tails still attached, a box of chocolates in one hand, a bouquet of flowers in another, and a plastic cane with a fake gem top in the other.

Nyx had a very vague idea as to why Newton required these items, but she'd found various doodles and Internet pages with clues and demands, and didn't want to ask many questions. As long as he wasn't causing her trouble, she didn't much care.

Newton came to a stop at one particular door and knocked with his free hand.

It was quiet, pleasantly so. There were no pressing appointments to attend, and the day's duties had been completely. Aila reclined on her bed contently, flipping through a contemporary drama and challenging herself to memorize pieces of the script. She paused occasionally to draw a sip from the hot cider she had prepared in the kitchen microwave, specially prepared for a long evening of indulging her various interests.

Then a knock.

Aila turned her head, waiting to see if anyone would enter or announce their name. When no one did, she pulled herself off the cozy mattress with a sigh, setting down her book as she did so, and moved to open the door. What she found on the other side answered a lot of questions.

"...Hello, Newton." What else could be said? She could never have expected that the blimp would actually call her bluff.

"Blim." Newton held the two gifts out closer to his 'date'. He had brought offerings, the way everything said he should. Now they would go eat, watch a movie, hold some hands, come back here, and he'd get his prize. It was all planned out. Nothing could go wrong.

Aila reached out cautiously to retrieve the offered items, vaguely embarrassed and relieved that Liam had stepped out for the time being.

"You know--" She stopped herself. Why dash his hopes at the very beginning? No, she would instead make a mental note of it, keep a list up until the end. It would have more impact that way, after all. It would also be more fun, but of course that wasn't a factor Aila was considering. Of course.

"Very well," she moved to set down the gifts, locating a tall glass to serve as an impromptu vase. "I'll let you lead the way, then."

Newton rotated forward in what was probably a bow, and floated ahead of his girlfriend. He didn't seem to mind that she wasn't even dressed for the occasion, but it was entirely possible he hadn't paid attention to what the females were supposed to do on 'dates'.

The blimp led Aila down the halls and elevator to the cafe, where there was a two person table by the window with a candle lit in the center. Newton floated over and pulled out Aila's chair. "Blim."

Aila followed quietly, musing that such is how a driving instructor must feel: remaining wordlessly at the driver's side with his foot hovering just above the passenger-side brake. An amused sound escaped her when she noticed the arrangements Newton had prepared, and she only barely managed to stifle the laughter that threatened to ensue. It was a bit like playing pretend with a child. Usually, though, the child was aware that it was only pretend.

Aila fought to return her usual air of casual indifference to her expression, taking the seat that was offered to her and simultaneously dreading and looking forward to what the blimp would come up with next.

As soon as his date was seated, Newton settled down into his chair, which was very far from the table, seeing as Newton was very round and very large. "Blim. Bliiim blim blim." The balloon seemed to be attempting small talk.

It wasn't long before a very confused and amused looking 'waiter' came to their table carrying a tray. Newton had made dinner arrangements already. Only the best for his girl. A plate with two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were placed in front of each of them, crust cut off, and the two wine glasses on the table were filled with... chocolate milk. Topped with a straw, of course. "Bon appetite, madam and sir." The waiter squeaked out, barely able to contain his bouts of chuckles.

"Blim bliiim." Newton looked proudly at Aila and waited for her to start eating first, as was only polite.

"Mm..." Aila dared to voice neither approval nor disapproval at the Drifblim's words, unable to discern their exact meaning and hesitant to guess. The appearance of an individual akin to a waiter redirected her attention, and she watched with both curiosity and bemusement as a sandwich and glass of milk were placed before her. She turned to the man with a smile that could interpreted as either a polite gesture of gratitude for his service or a dark and sincere threat against his life, depending on how close he came to meeting her eyes.

She returned her gaze to Newton and then to the square of bread in front of her. She'd already had dinner for the evening and wasn't much for snacking, but the girl could think of few other options besides indulging the balloon (and how many times in one's life was that the best option?). With a brief sigh of resignation, she took a bite from the sandwich.

Although he was trying to be a gentleman, and doing fairly well for a blimp, he was barely able to contain himself when it came to peanut butter and jelly. It was a feat that he was able to wait for his lovely flower to begin eating her sandwich-which he did-but as soon as her eyes were not on him, Newton grabbed the sandwich on his plate and shoved it into his mouth, whole. Unlike when a person or smaller pokemon stuffed their mouth with food, Newton showed no bulges or disgusting bits of crumbs or spittle. He was a giant balloon, born to put things into his mouth.

He stared at Aila for an awkward amount of time before he did anything more. "Blim. Blim blim blim?" No one could know what he said, but apparently it was funny because a pair of Newton's hands were placed on his 'belly' and he laughed blimily. He sighed and rotated forward and fumbled around trying to get the straw for his milk into his mouth. Having no neck made it terribly difficult to eat like a human.

When she turned her eyes back up, Newton's sandwich was gone. Her brow raised instinctively. How exactly did he do that? Probably better not to think about it too much, she decided. She returned her focus to her own meal, but in the end she simply wasn't hungry and left it half finished on the plate.

By some miraculous feat, he girl had managed to disregard Newton's disquieting stare, but he brought her attention to himself with his incoherent... joke? Aila quickly silenced herself by busying her mouth with the milk that had been prepared. She feared that if she started laughing now, she may never stop. The inability to breathe properly would eventually suffocate, and nothing more would be said about Aila Christelle de Valois except that she had died on a date with a balloon.

What in the world had she gotten herself into.

When Newton had managed to finish all of the chocolate milk from his glass, he raised one of his arms into the air and called out. "Blim!" Apparently Nyx had prepared for Newton to be brought a check. The waiter brought a check and set it down on the table and left.

Any glance at the paper would reveal that there was nothing on it except for crayon scribbles. Newton placed a hand on the check while he made a 'oh no no, allow me' gesture with his other, and then he placed a rubber ball, some jacks, lint, a penny, and three rocks on top of the check; He put a dryer sheet in the middle of the table. The tip.

Newton rose from his chair and floated over to Aila, offering her his hand to take her to the next part of the date.

Aila stood and, struck with some inexplicable pang of pity for the man who was tasked with the responsibility of serving dinner to a pokemon, slipped an actual bill onto the table when she found the opportunity to do so. Not a large bill, though. It was only peanut butter and jelly.

She turned to Newton's offered hand and briefly raised both of hers, palms out. "Sticky hands," she proclaimed before stuffing them into her pockets. The motion was fast enough that, she hoped, the pokemon wouldn't notice that there was nothing sticky about her hands. Savage was the fool who could sticky his hands from a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but Aila would be damned before she would go anywhere on base holding the hand of a Drifblim.

Newton deflated slightly, disappointed that he didn't get to hold hands. He thought they were ready to hold hands all the time. It didn't even matter if her hands were sticky, he would have held them.

Handless, Newton led the way to the rec room, where he had planned for the two of them to watch his favorite movie 'Pokemon in Love'. "Blim, blim bliim blim bliiim." He pushed play on the DVD player and 'sat' on the couch, gesturing for Aila to sit next to him.

Aila seated herself and folded her 'sticky' hands in her lap, casting a curious glance at the Drifblim before turning her gaze to the television screen. 'Pokemon in Love' wasn't a movie she had ever watched properly, but she was familiar enough with the plot to know it was in essence a rip-off of Romeo and Juliet. Perhaps the movie had been made to appeal to a pokemon audience rather than a human one, she mused absently, only half paying attention to the screen.

Newton looked focused on the movie, however at certain parts he would look at Aila to see if she was reacting to them the same way he was, and then look right back to the movie.

Partway through the movie, Newton yawned and tried to slip one of his arms around Aila's shoulders. He was a smooth ladies blim.
