So far today had been a fairly good day. Dmitri needed to get some Christmas shopping out of the way and had brought Ophelia along, deciding they had both stayed in the house too much recently. It was fun, Ophelia liked the mall especially seeing it all decked out for the holiday season.
They were on their way to one last store, Dmitri already holding a fair few bags holding various things for various people that Ophelia didn't know. She had come up with a few ideas of things she would like to get Dmitri but that was pointless given she had no money. It would be another year of homemade presents.
Suddnly Ophelia was distracted by something, a pretty dress in the window of a store and when she looked back Dmitri was no where to be seen. She paused a moment to look all around her but he wasn't among any of the people who milled around her. She tried walking a little further in the direction that they had been going to hopefully find him again. After a minute or two there was still nothing and on top of that she didn't know where she was.
Her eyes started to burn with the tears she was trying hard to fight back. She didn't like being alone much and the idea that she was now lost was terrifying. She took a seat on one of the benches meant for tired shoppers and she did the one thing she could think about to do right now, let the tears flow. She cried.

Shopping this time of year was not the most fun thing in the world. Too many people, too many shops shoving ridiculous sales in your face, too much of everything, really. So it was with a grateful sigh that Lind bought his last present, though getting out of the parking lot was another ordeal he didn't want to think of at the moment.
After having braved a surge of people just trying to get out of the store, he figured that he'd wait for the crowds to die down just a bit before trying to get out of the mall itself. A nearby bench was chose and flopped down on gratefully, eyes staring blankly out at the crowd before realizing who he was sitting next to. A kid.
And a crying one at that. Oh dear. That was never good. He scrubbed at his eyes with the heel of a hand before leaning over and nudging her (lightly) with his elbow. "Hey, kid, what's wrong?"

Ophelia didn't notice at first when the other had taken a seat next to her on the bench, her head down as she sobbed. She was much to caught up in thoughts about how she was lost, how she might never find Dmitri ever again and that she would be alone forever and would have to live in the mall because there was no way to get home. Life was hopeless...
Then she felt the small nudge and heard the question. She was a little surprised that someone would notice or even care to ask what was wrong so her crying ceased momentarily when she looked up to look at him. There was a brief pause before she replied, sniffling, "I, I can't find Dmitri... I'm lost."

Aaah, yes, lost in a mall. A sagely nod followed her declaration of lostness as his various bags were set down in between his feet. A moment of childhood which most experience, and most who follow Ophelia's initial solution: crying. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind. A perfectly acceptable situation to be crying in. "Dmitri's your dad?" Eyes slowly scanned the crowd, looking for a sign of a distressed (more so than usual, considering the time of year) person in search of a kid. Granted, there were quite a few that looked as if they wanted to lose their kid, but didn't seem as if any had lost theirs. "Want some help looking?"

"Dmitri looks after me," Ophelia responded, still sniffling quite a bit. She knew Dmitri acted like her dad, fed her, looked after her, but there was an unspoken understanding between the two that she was not suppose to call him that, because he didn't want to be her father. None of that needed voicing out loud though, she knew it but this stranger didn't need to.
When he offered his help her eyes lit up a little. She had convinced herself that she would not be able to find him on her own, but with someone else maybe she could find Dmitri again. "Would you?"

Aaah, one of those situations. Seems to be something of the norm around Gaia. But, regardless, lost. Not fun, father or guardian or whatnot. "Sure, why not," he said rather nonchalantly, dropping the rest of his bags to join the rest under the bench and pushing himself to his feet. "Ssoooo," eyes scanned over the sea of heads, grateful that he was taller than many people. "What does he look like?" He was hoping that someone looking for someone else would be self evident, but apparently not.

"Uh, he had brown hair and a really big scar on his face and oh..." she frowned a little and her face scrunched up a little as she thought, there had to be something more that she could tell him because she knew that brown hair really wasn't a lot to go on. "Oh! his scarf he was wearing a black and green scarf, he always wears the scarf."
Dmitri meanwhile was getting a little closer to where his little angel had been. To his shame he had not noticed right away that the two of them had been seperated. Once he had noticed there had been some panic in him. He was staying calm, but he was worried and doing his best to retrace his steps. "Ophelia?"

It was kind of like a periscope, really. Only a few heads really got in his way as he turned to look through the crowd, mentally picking out people as possible Dmitris. Brown hair and scar and scarf. Well, there wasn't a lack of brown hair, that was for sure (though there was less than there would be in the normal world, all of the odd natural colors in Gaia considered). There were a few people that mostly fit the bill, and he made mental notes as to their general location. "Wwwell, I see a few people that could be him...." He looked back at Ophelia, trying to think of a way that she might be able to look too. "You might be able to see if you stood on the bench, maybe?"" Maybe. She might be too short.

She nodded slowly, wiping away a few stray tears from her eyes. She had for the most part stopped crying by the time that she climbed up on the bench. She was still pretty small and while she could see above some heads now it wasn't all of them. But she tried, standing shakily on her tip-toes to try and get an even better view to scan the crowd from. She didn't see him herself though, not yet at least and this wasn't something that cheered her up at all.

Well. The girl wasn't the tallest ever, but the added few feet of the bench seemed to be enough for her to see. "There's thhhhat guy over there?" he said, pointing his finger in the direction of a man who kind of fit her description. "And there's a few over there," the other hand joined in on the pointing, "and maybe that guy over there?" Despite the fact that 'natural' hair colors tended to be overwhelmed by the brightly colored ones, there were still quite a number of brunettes in the crowd.

Ophelia carefully look over the crowd in the directions that Lind pointed. The first person was not Dmitiri, and she tried not to let it get her down (her spirit was easy to break on a good day and today was not a good day) there was still a chance.
In fact as she scanned the second group of people that Lind pointed out to her she noticed a very familiar scarf. "There he is, right there!" She said and pointed excitedly. They had found him at last.
