It was almost the afternoon before Christmas and Kestrel Tonnere wasn't yet out of bed. She'd had several rum and eggnogs, all with too much rum and not enough eggnog--pirates started celebrating early, and they celebrated hard. Kestrel might have remained in bed indefinitely if there hadn't been a sudden explosion of light and glitter in the middle of her room. As she jumped to her feet, the glitter swirled into some sort of formation...

"Get up and look under your bed," Kestrel read dryly. She had a pretty good idea who had snuck a glitter bomb into her room, and she became more sure when she reached under her bed and pulled out a wrapped present. It was unsigned, which confirmed her suspicions. Nothing she could do about the loud wake-up call now. She'd put the present under the tree.

Coming out on deck, she paused to admire the tree. Standing almost as tall as the mast, it was decorated with everything from shining lights and delicate glass figurines to the tin can someone had caught while fishing. She placed the gift under the tree and looked around. The deck was a flurry of activity, her crew hanging lights and streamers wherever there was room. Even the casimir tree had a few, tasteful decorations.

"We're just about done, which is good because people will be arriving any time," Kestrel's first mate said, coming up behind her. Kestrel turned to see that Aurelia was decked out in a very uncharacteristic outfit of bright red and gold. Unlike Kestrel, Aurelia looked wide awake and unaffected by the last night's celebrations--not surprising, seeing as she didn't drink.

"Well, all that remains is to see if people actually show up. Is there coffee?"

Aurelia handed her a mug.

"I see you've gotten a gift from our sneaky friend as well," Aurelia said, gesturing to the package Kestrel had just placed under the tree, "I wonder if we'll be seeing them."

"We might not know it if we did." Kestrel took a deep gulp of coffee, only burning her tongue slightly.

There was a call from the crow's nest, "Captain, we've got company!"

Aurelia raised an eyebrow.

"I'll get out the rum and eggnog. Try not to overdo it again tonight." She patted Kestrel on the shoulder and headed below deck, leaving her to greet their guests.

[[The ship is docked in a fairly remote location. They expect people to be arriving by airship, but they'll take anyone from the ground too. Their plan is to rope the airships together if they need more space.]]

It was Christmas Eve; a horrible time, really. The only thing holidays are good for at this point are so his own crew can get drunk and have fun for one day…week…whatever they claim every damn day is a holiday. Little bastards.

So why was he on one of those flying surfboards on a way to a party where he probably doesn’t know anyone and has to learn even more names?

Because if he has to spend another day near Penn’s freaky tree he’s going to break that thing in half.

He really hadn’t told Penn he was going or that he was even going anywhere. She won’t care. If she joins in, wonderful; if not, just as well! Sinsario had snuck out in the early morning to find himself a flying surfboard; which means he stole that sucker. Not his fault some idiots left it outside. Actually in a safe area. With a lock.

Whatever.

Of course he had no idea how to work the stupid thing so a lot of time was spent figuring out how in the hell to make it go. It probably took an hour, but several more to goof off and steal some little things. Like this one cool thing. It’s a sphere! And when you screw around with it…it’s a map! A map of space; but a map regardless! It’s cool. He likes it.

The party ship was just right in his view; the ship was nicely decorated actually. One could almost call it cute. Finally Sinsario was able to dock. He just threw the surfboard to a corner; just in case the actual owner arrived. Or if someone wanted a nice Christmas present. Maybe he should have written “From Sin, with love” He’d have to find a way back to Penn’s ship alone then.

Annddnd no one was…even there. Maybe all the party guests just materialized to the ship. Maybe he should have picked up one of those instead.

Sinsario decided to call out to all the materialized people, just in case they didn’t completely make it attached.“Heeeeeeyyy-lo…anyone?”

No one responded to him; not directly anyway. Some random person yelled out "Captain, we've got company!"
“Wow way to make it sound like I’m going to wreck your ship…” He muttered to himself. “Fret not whoever you are! I’m here to uh… party. That’s what this thing is for, right? Party? I’d like to party. Are there any other people here? Partying?” No reply.“Yes. No. Maybe.”

“Oookkaaay.” He walked farther in just to lean on the wall. “I’ll just wait here then. Twenty minutes tops and I will wreck stuff up.”

((and then he wrecked stuff)

Ever have those moments where you wonder Jeeze why did I do that?!. At the moment, that’s exactly what was going through Sil’s mind. Though if an observer was looking for Sil, they of course wouldn’t be able to tell it was her, not as they usually see her anyways. There was only a small speck in the sky, seeming to struggle against the frigid wind. The small barn owl flapped her wings frantically, trying to find a nice solid stream of air to keep herself balanced on. Flying wasn't exactly Sil's strong point, hell, her specialty was mammals. Yet here she was, trying to flap her way to her destination.

Where was the place anyways? One would imagine that a pirate ship hosting a party would be more noticeable, but Sil really couldn't see much. Probably because it was extremely windy and cloudy. She let out a small screech in frustration as a gust of wind sent her more upwards. The shape shifter was going to make a note that this was a really bad idea. She didn't want the rest of her crew walking right into some sort of trap set by pirates. She was planning on radioing back if there was any sort of issue.

Spotting out a dark spot in the sky below her, the small owl stopped. If that wasn't it, she could at least stop and take a break for a moment. She brought her wings close to her body, diving down into the clouds towards the airship. Once she got closer, she quickly spread out her wings, slowly her decent. With a few short flaps, she landed on the railing of the ship. Sil shook her body, in an attempt to get the water from her feathers. She hopped down onto the deck of the ship, her body soon shifting and reshaping itself into her public form. She ruffled her hands through her brown and gold hair, getting more water out and fluffing it out even more.

Looking around, Sil quirked a brow. One of her ears twitched slightly. There was only a few people here, and she gathered that a majority of them were crew. Maybe she was early. The shifter shrugged, soon waving an arm a bit. "Hello!~"

Ancient, buzzy recordings of early century Christmas carols filled the cabin on the Kinetic Hawk. Beatrice wished she was thoroughly enjoying the sound of them, but sadly, only a handful were actually worthwhile—this was probably her mother's old vinyl copied onto some half-modern compact disk, and her player didn't possess the ability to skip tracks. Probably because it wasn't actually a CD player in the first place, but rather a modified toaster. Piece of rotten junk's what it was, anyway. She'd have it fixed. One of these days.

Suddenly, there was something showing up within close range. She looked out through the window while taking a sip from a glass of cooling mulled wine she'd picked up from a peculiar fellow on some market day a while back. She scarcely believed her eyes; there had been some loose talk of a flying nest of tangled Christmas lights, but she'd dismissed it as humbug and/or not cared about it. Yet here it was. She was rather overwhelmed, and stood imagining how immensely sparkly the whole thing would have been late at night. If she'd come here at that hour she probably would have been blinded and cra—

Note to self: don't forget you're piloting an airship while piloting an airship. She managed to take rough, sliding turn in time to save the top of the tree and the mast. She circled the whole spectacle a few times before she descended and ultimately docked as conveniently as was possible, so overwhelmed by curiosity she didn't even have time to realise it. Grabbing her bottle of mulled wine she stepped out into the cold wintry wind, heading towards the large, bustling deck.

"Oi, little helpers, that's some Tannenbaum you've got right there!"

It was one of those nights aboard the airship Lorelei. Zero was in the deck looking away, while Alrunette was sitting on a chair near the main mast drinking some tea. They both heard about a party to celebrate the holidays, but due to the captain's bad navigating skills they got lost. It was cold on the main deck, but Zero was stubborn enough to stay outside until he finds the party ship.
"Zero-niisan, why don't we wait inside in the warm looking for the party." Asked Alrunette. "No! I will stay here looking for the ship. I will not rest until I find it." He then takes out a box with a button on it. Upon pressing the button, the box transformed into a telescope.
While looking through it, Zero soon finds the ship. "Ship-ho! Alrunette, set the auto-pilot destination to 20 degrees west." "Aye aye!" Alrunette goes to the ship's wheel. The auto-pilot is just a staff coming from the floor that holds the ship's wheel. The ship's course then changes towards the party ship "Onward towards party!"

“I told you leaving the lights on all night was a bad idea!” Taku yelled back to her crew while trying to steer the rapidly descending ship. Crew, meaning her best friend Katt and ship, meaning the tiny vessel they had “borrowed”.

“H-how was I supposed to know that the tree wasn’t fireproof!?” Katt yelled back, trying to smother the flames. “These things are supposed to be a little resilient, right?” She leaped on the last bit of burning deck with the heavy blanket, putting it out. “It’s out! B-but…why are we still going down?” She had to yell over the screaming wind.

“Don’t know! Might have done more damage than we thought!” Taku strained from the effort of keeping the ship from doing a nose dive. He red and blonde hair streaming behind her as they hurtled through the clouds. “Come on.” She gritted her teeth. Then, with a jolt, the craft sped upwards again, more jittery than before, but they were flying.

Katt collapsed on the deck. She was too relieved to speak. After a minute, she staggered up, tamed her windswept ginger hair and stood by her friend. “What now? I don’t trust this thing anymore.”

“Right now? I need a stiff drink. And I think that’s the place to get one.” She pointed to a glow on the horizon.

“P-pirates!?” Katt stammered, quick to assume the worst. “Shouldn’t we avoid them?”

“Katt, dear. We are pirates.”

“Well, shouldn’t we avoid other pirates?” She was getting nervous.

Taku slumped over the helm. “I swear, you see the worst possible outcome. They might be friendly. After all, it’s Christmas eve!”

Katt gave out a little gasp. “What? I didn’t- I thought…there was more time! Christmas is tomorrow and I didn’t get you anything!” Her hands flew up to her mouth. “I hope you didn’t get me anything! Oooh I would feel so bad!”

“Relax! Besides, do you even have any money?”

Katt thought about this for a second. “Now that you mention it…”

“Then don’t worry about it. Let’s just get to that ship before we fall out of the sky.”

When guests arrive, they come all at once. Prioritize--first guests first. Kestrel walked over to Sinsario and held out a hand.

"Need a lift over the rail?" She eyed his transportation with interest. "A board in this weather? You're braver than I am. If you drink, my first mate's on the way with the eggnog."

The owl becoming not an owl somewhere on the deck behind her didn't quite escape her attention. She nodded at another crew member to step up.

Kassa, a quiet dark-haired girl obliged. Smiling shyly, she offered the arrival a cookie (baked herself, and thus slightly burnt) and a towel, if she wanted.

There was a shriek from the crow's nest as an airship barely cleared the mast. Everyone looked up, then relaxed when it was apparent that the ship was now under control and coming in to dock. The captain stepped off the ship, and Kestrel recognized her instantly.

"Beatrice, you dolt! I've got presents under that tree." There was a call of protest from the crow's nest, but Kestrel chose to ignore it. "Long time no see."

"Captain! Captain! Two incoming ships, and one's on fire!"

Kestrel excused herself from her guests and started barking orders. The crew snapped into action, a figure sliding down from the crow's nest and even dreamy Kassa looking alert.

The guests were just starting to look a little lost when Aurelia arrived, dragging a tub of eggnog and a small barrel of rum. A chunk of burning something, carried by the wind, hit the deck in front of her. Aurelia simply stomped it out and continued on her way, plopping her burdens on a nearby table.

"Happy holidays, everyone. Drink up. It looks like it's going to be an interesting night."

What a shame, people immediately began to show up. He somewhat really wanted to wreck havoc. Maybe he’ll pretend to be drunk later. “Howdy girlie. I’ve sailed through worse.” Sinsario stepped back and glanced at all the incoming folks. One was briefly an owl, then…not. Too bad, the owl was adorable. And…BEA! “Hey Beeeaaaaaa-trice. What-cha doooiiin’?” he leaned close to her “Izzat wine? Drinkin’ alread-y?” and nudging her elbow. Two other ships swooped down on dock, distracting him from being annoying…for now. The party host motioned everyone to the drinks on a table; she looked exhausted already. “Don’t mind if I do!” Sinsario made a beeline toward the eggnog, his favorite drink, because it contained eggs, and Sin loves eggs. Glancing at the ship that was on fire, he said "Thanks fer having us here, by the way. I'm all for interesting nights."

"Yeah, so it's wine. Yeah, so I'm 'drinkin' already'. What's it to ya, Christmas an' all?" Beatrice chuckled. "Really, now, it's almost good to see you 'gain. Kinda."

Undead—the most extraordinary and essential addition to any Christmas party. Yet Sinsario was already off to tackle the eggnog. Which sounded like a perfectly great idea. She'd just have to finish her wine first; alternately sneak it away somewhere. With a sly chuckle, she stumbled up to Kestrel and handed the bottle to her.

"Really, really good, I do say, there you go, it's compensation. Deal? Deal! Well, I'm off to your refreshments, love, I'm not sure how I ended up here, but I think I can learn to like it."

She didn't stop to see whether Kestrel even held on to it, but turned around and headed off as smouldering pieces of ship began raining around her. "Interesting night", someone said. Rightfully damn so. But before she'd comprehend the insanity of it: eggnog. With rum. Or rum with eggnog. Yes, indeed.

"Three cheers, Sinny," she smirked as she began tapping rum-and-no-eggnog into her glass. "For Santa, or sumthin' like tha'."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 2:22 pm

Kestrel arrived in front of Beatrice and Sinsario a few minutes later, covered in black ash. Without saying a word, she filled the bottom of a mug with rum, emptied it in one gulp, and repeated.

"Well s**t," she said at last, "I haven't had such a bad day since that grand mix-up in the Devil's Run. Apparently, Beatrice's ship isn't the only one that attracts weirdness. Which reminds me. I found a couple of packages under the tree for you two. Unmarked, but three guesses who they're from."

“It’s like…Santa’s birthday t’morrow ain’t it?” Sinsario took a gulp of his eggnog, only to quickly refill. “Damn this is good stuff, lay off’a th’ single rum an’ taste th’ nog. It’s holly jolly!” He motioned to the eggnog and waggled his eyebrows suggestively. The lovely host was wearing a new color, ash. “Lookin’ good.” She carried on drowning two mugs of rum then mentioned presents under the tree, Sinsario practically broke his neck turning his head toward the tree. “Wwhhaaattt.”
PostPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:45 pm

Kestrel raised an eyebrow. "Big red package on the left there. I have no idea how Aki managed to get that onto our ship without anyone seeing. Although I probably wouldn't notice her in this crowd." She gestured to the motley assortment of people gathered over the deck. Kestrel filled her mug, this time adding eggnog and sipping more slowly. Her crew was starting to filter back into the party, all looking as ash-covered as Kestrel, and in some cases more.

Good thing we're pirates and don't care, thought Kestrel. Well, except for Aurelia, who had somehow managed to avoid getting even a speck of ash onto her red and gold getup.

Zero docks his ship "Common Alrunette! The party has just started! Let's grab some drinks!" Alrunette stares at Zero "You still remember that I don't drink right?" "Well you know what that means. More for me!" Zero then jumps from his ship and lands on the dock of the party ship.
He then quickly runs towards the eggnog and sees many people gathered "Hi nice to meet ya'll, I am Zero. I have been lost for some time in the skies still not used. Is that eggnog?" He quickly grabs a mug of eggnog and finishes all in one drink. Then, Zero notices Sinsario's broken neck and stares at him for a moment "....what does this eggnog is made of? I think I am seeing things."
