It was generally true that most children shared the skills and interests of their parents. For Coralie Williams, it was true that for the most part she was a carbon copy of her mother. They both were loud, self-important, and tended to inhale any bit of food placed in front of them with little decorum. Being raised as a princess had fixed the decorum part, but there was something that Coralie enjoyed that Usagi had never quite been able to: reading. Down at the Destiny City Library was where the pink-haired girl had spent a good deal of time as Blanche, learning to read and speak the language.

Her grasp of English was better because of it! But unfortunately, that did not exclude her from doing the work expected of a freshman student at Meadowview High School. So there Coralie was, in one of her favorite places, pigtails bobbing indignantly as she pointed at the paper she was all but shoving into the face of a poor librarian. "The name is here! I do not know what it says! You have to help me, they pay you to do that!" For a library, her voice was getting rather loud rather quickly.

Another trait of being raised a princess, and a beloved only child: you tended to scream when you didn't get what you wanted immediately.

When the woman tried to yet again point her in the direction of the shelves of books, Allie let out a low and muffled scream beneath her breath, before launching out in a tirade of Japanese. Roughly, it translated to a complaint about idiots who didn't understand that not everyone spoke their precious language, and they were all barbarians for thinking it was easy!

Oliver didn't spend all his time in the library, but he did spend quite a bit of it there. All of his money went to taking care of his fish which meant he didn't have any money to spend on his second favourite hobby of reading books. Luckily for him the library was free!

He was sitting at a long table, immersed in his book when he heard a girl complaining. Gold eyes flicked up searching the library for who was being so disruptive in a library of all places. His eyes stopped on the pink haired girl and he watched her for a moment. How could she not kno- and then his mouth made a perfect O as he heard the Japanese. She was foreign. Well, luckily for her he spoke Japanese, but...wouldn't just walking up to her and busting out his language skills be kind've weird?

It took a minute for him to finally decide, she needed help and he wasn't going to let her go without when he could bridge the language gap. Shutting his book he left it on the table and then walked over to her, tapping her on the shoulder lightly.

When he spoke it was in Japanese, and while not as fast as a native speaker it was obvious he was fluent. He smiled a bit shyly, rubbing his hands on his jeans. "Hey, did you need some help? I could translate for you, if you'd like."

It was lucky for Oliver that Coralie was at the very end of the proverbial leash with the librarian who was looking very much like she'd like to be somewhere else in that very moment. Normally, Allie wouldn't have blamed her. It was annoying to have someone all but scream at you in a language you didn't have any understanding of when you did nothing but try to be helpful. Certainly she'd been in that situation - in the reverse - a dozen times!

Turning swiftly, one of the long tails of pink hair whipped across the boy's arms as ruby eyes regarded him for a long moment before testing his grasp of the language. Allie spoke a bit slower, modulating as she would for someone who hadn't grown up speaking Japanese. "Could you? It's really ridiculous, the way that nobody seems to understand that I can't read some of the language still!" Holding out the paper, fingers tapped the line underlined meticulously in pink ink. Yes, she used pink ink. Pink hair, usually colors that were similar to the shade of her hair, Coralie liked pink!

"I can't read that at all. I tried to muddle through it for school, since it's my project and all, but it's totally foreign to me. I figure you can, but not sure if you can translate it for me?" That was a neat idea. If he could help her find translations for the words she couldn't really read, it would be ten times faster in picking up said words! The tiny girl was all but bobbing on her toes, excited at the prospect.

Ollie's eyes flickered down down a moment when the girl's hair brushed across his arms and then back up to her face. When she spoke again he noticed it was slower than it had been, if that was because she was less upset or if because she thought he needed the slower pace he wasn't sure, either way he didn't mind. He didn't particularly need a slower pace, but it was easier to follow.

Looking at the paper he read the title, Memoirs of a Geisha. Smiling he looked up at her still speaking Japanese. "Well, this word," he pointed at Memoirs "It's like a story of someone's life written by that person, like an autobiography." He wasn't sure if she knew the word autobiography, but assumed she'd ask if she didn't. "So the book is a story about the life of a Geisha." He assumed that he didn't have to explain what a Geisha was since she was from Japan.

"Do you want me to get the book for you? I could look it up in the computer system..." He wasn't sure exactly how much help she wanted and he didn't want to bother her.

Really, Coralie was fairly impressed that he knew how to say something like 'autobiography' in Japanese. This boy had obviously either spent quite a bit of time learning the language, had lived in Japan, or it was natural to him. The speed at which he spoke ruled out the second, and it seemed more formal than someone who'd picked up the natural slang and cadence of a place's speech. Linguistics had become a bit of a Blanche thing to note, she could fairly easily pick up on someone now who hadn't at least grown up speaking English. It was always so much more easy to understand, and proper. "I'd love it! I mean, I love computers at all, but they use some abbreviations and things that make absolutely no sense." Sure, she'd have to pick it all up one day. But that was one day, and today was today.

Besides, Perry had said he would take her out for ice cream if she got an A on this project. Allie loved ice cream, even in the dead of winter, so she was motivated as...something very motivated to get something done. Shooting a final remonstrant look in the direction of the unhelpful librarian, the pigtailed teen moved over towards the catalog computers with a decided bounce in her step. "By the way, I'm Coralie. Most people call me Allie anymore though, I guess it's more fun that way."

Fun was what she had in mind but it seemed that the universe was going to be quite adverse to that. The moment she put hands on the keyboard to look for the book in question, there was a jingling sound in her bag. Eyebrows narrowed down, fishing out a phone heavy with charms, only to find that it was silent. Digging in further a very pink alternate cell phone was unearthed with a sigh.

"I am sorry. I have to go. I will see you soon!" Then, leaving him with nothing more than a smile and a name, Coralie ran out of the library. Making friends was hard when you had to be a senshi!
