Maion had explained the situation to his daughter Chandra, insisting that she needed a break and that it would help the mare they were heading to see. That morning he had collected a variety of food -sweet grass, berries, applies and some carrots he had managed to collect- thanks to the pouch Sonnet had made Maion had a safe way to keep them all together and undamaged while they travelled. It was only going to be a short flight from the herd lands to the place Maisie had bedded down... but still, he was curious.

"Chandra.... how are things with you and Sonnet?" He turned his head to watch her, noticing the slight turn of her head that was the sign of her embarassment. Sometimes he was sure if her pelt was lighter he would see her cheeks redden also. Maion wanted his daughter happy... but the idea of losing his baby to another man, to a mate... made him feel helpless.

Chandra blushed, once again thankful for her dark pelt. She coughed and sputtered slightly before facing her father. Why did he always have to be so perceptive? Did he have spies.... ? Probably, anyone in the herd would happily pass information to him, especially if he was worried. "He's a friend Dad.. no big!" Ok, so that was a lie. She had only had a conversation with Mal a few days ago about the choice she had to make.. Alistair or Sonnet. Already she knew that her heart leaned more towards Sonnet, more towards the stallion that he had shared her teenhood with. Right now he was away training, sending secret gifts and presents that always made her heart skip a beat. She.... loved him.

"So," she said changing the subject, "What is Maisie like?" Her father had insisted that she take a break, the two pregnant mares were doing well and since they found out Chandra hadn't exactly slept let alone taken time off. She was... nervous? In all her life she had never really bonded with another mare, all her friends growing up had been boys. Alistair and Sonnet... she loved them both.

Maion saw they were getting close, he didn't want to take about the mare in earshot so spoke quickly why they were still airborne. "She is nice, timid and shy but once you get past the surface you can see her shining like a star. I think you will like her." In Maion's opinion his children could achieve anything, but the few hours he had spent with Maisie reminded him of the strength of Chandra, and part of him just knew they would make good friends.

"Follow me." He said as he started to descend towards the ground and the spot he had last seen Maisie. Chandra followed, her flight so much smoother and elegant now she had practised more... and part of him couldn't get past the memory that not too long ago he had taught her to fly. He had seen some of her secret parcels, caught Sonnet leaving the herdlands after delivering them. His little girl was becoming a woman, and quite frankly Maion didn't know how to feel about that.

The night that passed had been lonesome and cold. The feeling of needing but not being able to grasp it left the poor purple mare laying awake in the middle of the night. Falling asleep only to wake up from the absent minded searching she was doing for Cobb. She knew he wasn't there but that didn't stop her from thinking he was while she was sound asleep. Eventually the sun rose and by that point she would be nuzzling at her adopted son's ears and waking him so they could up and explore. Oh, how she loved to roam around with her little fire cracker. He had a curiousness about him that made Maisie giggle every time he found something exciting or unusual. She wished that she could see the world though his eyes. Not a worry in the world for him. Innocence was something that she missed so badly.

Still, the mare couldn't up and leave. She had to stick around and wait for Maion to return with his daughter. If she hadn't recalled the thrilling events of last night she would have up and left by now. Though, she had gave her word that she would rest here until he came. Besides, he had bribed her with goodies and she felt her stomach growling all throughout the night. If her conscience didn't make her stay then her stomach certainly would. Though it seemed like she wouldn't have to wait for long.

The sound of flapping wings faintly echoed in her little thicket and the noise took her back to the previous night. Images of crashing waves and rocky steep slopes filled her mind as they neared. Her near death experience was a little traumatizing but nothing that wouldn't be expected. It would fade and soon be pushed to the back of her mind, just like the other misfortune she suffered. Although, the first one was worse, it was buried deep below her surface. A secret that she rarely spoke about, if ever. Although, nobody ever asked so she never brought it up. Sometimes it's good to be at a distance from others. That way the scars can remain scars and not open wounds.

Suddenly there was a soft thud upon the ground and Maisie knew that it was a soquili just by the sheer volume of the sound. It had to be a heavy beast to make that kind of thump. Then there was another, yet not as loud as the first. She slowly rose to her feet, eyes locked on the bushy surrounding before getting the courage to speak up, "H-hello? Maion, is that you?" She asked with a clear tone of timidness in her voice. Relief washed over her as he approached through the forest trees and she began to make her way over to him with a light hearted smile on her expression. However, it seemed to vanish into thin air when she noticed the female trailing behind him. She froze right on the spot, locking her eyes to the new face but tried so hard to keep herself calm and collected. Strangers always left her jittery. "Hello there...." the greeting certainly wasn't as warm as the first but that was to be expected from Maisie. Her eyes would nervously glance to the ground from time to time but she tried so hard to act 'normal'. Then again this was normal for Maisie.

Maion had purposefully ensured his hooves made a steady 'thump thump' on the ground, he had no intention of scaring Maisie once more.... especially after the incident the day before, but if he wanted to Maion was able to dull his sound despite his size, a skill his good friend Sofiel had taught him and one he would never forget.

As Maisie came into sight and her kind words of welcome echoed towards him he smiled and bowed his head before replying; "It is I. Good morning Maisie, I hope you are well? You look much better this morning." It was true, the rest had done her good and the sun brought out her radiant pelt of purple hues.

He turned to his daughter as a nervous Maisie tried to greet her with the same strength and enthusiasm she had him, he knew it would come with time... and he knew his daughter would help in the matter, she was a good mare.... strong and kindhearted, as proven by her very profession of a midwife. "This is my youngest daughter, Chandra." He turned to face Maisie once more, a crisp smile upon his face as he spoke; Chandra, this is my friend Maisie." He bowed his head once more and watched as his daughter stepped forward.

It was true that her father had warned her that Maisie was shy... but this had taken even her by suprise, still she smiled and stepped forward, she was certainly up for a challenge... and a friend would be good also. "It is a pleasure to meet you Maisie," She chirped, "My father told me a little about you. Is your side ok now?" She copied her fathers movement and bowed her head softly and slowly. He had once told her it was a sign that you are not a threat -or that you come in peace, perhaps it would settle this nervous mare a little.

The female was taken aback slightly by how pretty Chandra actually turned out to be. In Maisie's mind somebody that stunning and gorgeous could never want to befriend somebody as plain and simple as herself. It left Maisie feeling a bit weary of the girls real intentions and thus her trust issues began to show. When Maion spoke about her improvement she turned her eyes to him, even if they would occasionally flicker back to the female angeni and gave a soft nod, "I feel much better, thank you. So much better," she gave he a happy, yet strangely faint smile before turning back to Chandra. It seemed like the right place to focus her attention.

As the introductions were made her bright yellow eyes never left the girl, she kept staring straight into her eyes, as if trying to read her emotions. She seemed intrigued, and maybe a bit confused by Maisie but nothing threatening to say the least. That small step towards the timid girl alarmed her. She rose her hoof off the ground, acting as if she was going to jump back but she stood her ground. It would be embarrassing to retreat from such a non threatening stranger. When she asked if her side was alright she turned her head back a bit as if to look at it but never removed her eyes from Chandra's. "Y-yes.... yes it is, thank you for asking. It's much better than it had been last night." She relaxed and took a deep breathe, "It's so nice to meet you too Chandra." The purple hued mare decided to let her guard down. Nothing would happen to her, especially since Maion was here.

Maion smiled softly and bowed his head again, "I am glad you are feeling much better, and that your side is healed." There was a twang of guilt again at the reminder that the young mare was injured, but he was pleased that even his weakened magic had aided her.

He saw the nerves from her though, the screamed and called to him, and he wondered what had caused her to grow up so timid. He had always believed that the way a foal grew up was linked directly to way they were brought up, if you mothered them too much then they were less likely to take risks.... if you gave them too much freedom then they could get injured and aggressive as they try to fight for their own survival. It was a hard balance to produce, of course every now and then you came across someone whose personality was just born that way. Which was Maisie?

Of course, Maion would never ask.... that was not his place, all he wanted was for Maisie to find a slice of happiness, a friend who could help her build her confidence up. While at the same time, encourage Chandra to look outside of the bubble she had formed for herself..... there was more to life that just Sonnet and midwiffery.

Chandra smiled, and turned her head to look at her father before speaking; "He has been worried about you!" she then turned to face Maisie with a soft chuckle, "But I keep telling him..... us girls are stronger than we look." In truth Chandra wasn't 'mocking' her father, she loved all the attention he gave her.... it made her feel special, though sometimes she suspected it was because she was the youngest of her three siblings. Still, she hoped her words would lighten the other mares spirits a little.

It was clear the other mare was cautious of her, so she tried to keep at a reasonable distance... after all, she didn't want to scare her after all the effort her father went to to keep her safe.

Remembering why they came here so early she turned to her father once more, "Shall we eat?"

Maion nodded as he lowered his head and with a few quick shakes the basket handle worked its way over his head before getting stuck at his horn. No matter how much he shook her couldn't get it off, with a gentle sigh he looked to the two mares, before slightly reluctantly saying; "A little help ladies?"

Maisie felt a small flutter in her chest as she turned her eyes to the concerned looking male. He was so kind. Looking back on last nights events it left her in a hot embarrassment for ever thinking Maion could have been a monster. Still, whats done is done and there was no changing the past. She'd just have to live down that humiliation. A subtle blush crossed her cheeks and she nodded to the giant of a stallion and turned her main focus back onto Chandra, the still large, but not so towering giant.

The Angeni female began speaking and it stole one hundred and fifty percent of Maisie's attention, wanting to be weary of what she was saying. It wasn't because she was afraid but because she was trying so hard to seem normal. Maybe she was over reaching it just a bit. You think? "Heh, speak for yourself. I'm a frail as a twig. Nudge me the wrong way and I might snap," she joked around with a desperate look of acceptance, but was starting to feel as though her was failing miserably. Her ears began to instinctively flatten back against her skull. The mention of food perked them up immediately though. Her stomach was going to start eating itself if she didn't get something in it. "That sounds wonderful," she chimed sweetly to Chandra before turning her attention to a struggling Maion.

She giggled and turned her body to face his, eying the situation he got himself into. She wanted to be a helping hand but would it be to intrusive to 'climb' on him. Still, he was asking for help so she did attempt. Surely, Maisie didn't want to come off as if she didn't care. She walked up to him with a twinkle of humor in her eyes as she strained her neck up to meet Maion's horn but it was sort of a bit hire than anticipated. "Um... c-could you lower... I mean... well... never mind, I got it." She reared up and rested her hooves upon his upper back, leaning to the side to reach for his horn and nipping at it before flinging it off. Once it hit the ground the back fell open and the contents spilled out all about the ground. "O-oh! Oh, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to- I mean... It just slipped... I'm so sorry," she continued to apologize as she climbed off of Maion and began to back away from her accident.

Chandra shook her head at Maisie's comment and plainly said; "You don't give yourself enough credit Maisie." With that she moved forward and nipped the other mares mane in that affectionate way of hers before turning her head suddenly to her father and the utter mess he was him.

But before she could react and go to his aid she burst into laughter. He father... always so wise and large and... well perfect, in her eyes at least.... was in a situation that could only be described as 'funny', it was so out of character that it took her a moment to think or do anything else.

Maion tried his best not to move as Maisie moved to assist him. He let out a soft grunt as she placed her hooves and weight on his shoulder but gave no other signs of distress.

Soon... the homemade bag was.... free.... and apparently all over the floor. His eyes looked to it and he burst out laughing, if it hadn't been bad enough that it got stuck it was just the icing on the cake that it was nice on the floor. Not that it mattered, Maion had intended to spill the contents on the grass so that they could share with ease anyways.

He was just about to comment when he spoted Maisie backing away and apologising. He raised an eyebrow before shaking his head, "There is nothing to apolgise to m'dear. It was an accident." He walked over to the bag and tipped the rest of the contents to the ground before saying, "whoops!" and winking at Maisie. Until that moment they had all been doing so well -or so he believed.

Chandra coughed her throat clear as her laughter finally died down. She walked over to her father and nuzzled his neck softly before looking at the food. "Oh it looks yummy." She said before looking up at Maisie. "What would you like first?" Chandra had the impression that if she didn't make a big deal of things perhaps it would relax the other mare... or at least she hoped it would.

As the female neared her just a bit more she forced herself to remain still, even if all her senses were telling her to step away. She didn't want to appear scared anymore, and she certainly didn't want to appear rude to sweet Chandra. However, when the light nipping came Maisie hadn't quite been expecting that so she gave a quick flinch before turning her head quickly to see what it was Chandra was doing. When she realized it was nothing more than an affectionate gesture she sighed out and offered an embarrassed smile. Her ears slowly slid back in the realization that she had just probably insulted the girl. "You're... a sweet girl," she offered that compliment hoping it would mend her mistake.

At last there was a cluttering sound and Maisie snapped her attention to watch as the bag swung on his horn. She tried her best not to laugh but Chandra's laughter was contagious. A charming sort of gentle laughter left her mouth as she watched before finding it her job to help the oldest of their trio. Everything was going so smoothly. Until the bag dropped and the guilt sunk in. She continued to back up in case she had angered Maion. It wasn't that he ever gave her a reason to think that he would harm her. It was just embedded in her memories that when she did something wrong she had to pay for it the painful way. Curse her evil step father.

When he approached the sachet himself and referred to this as nothing but a simple accident her panic seemed diluted. He even did his own part in dumping the bag out so all it's contents were piled on the floor, giving a joking 'whoops'. That small word was enough to settle her fears and bring a bright smile to her face. "Heh, yes... an accident." She approached them once again and eyed the delicious food. As Chandra asked what she would enjoy from the pick she widened her eyes. "You... you're giving me first choice?" She smiled at Chandra before flicking her eyes at Maion to make sure it was alright and he didn't seem to care much. "Oh, thank you. You're so kind." She leaned in and actually gave the mare a quick nuzzle before staring down at the food.

Softly spoken, as usual, she spoke up after making her decision, "This apple looks so delicious." She leaned in and lightly held it in her teeth before standing up straight again. Though, her standing up straight must have looked so silly next to these giants who towered over her without even having to try. Though, Chandra was more closer to her height then the massive Maion. She munched on her apple, feeding it to herself with her lips before it was all gone and she licked the juice that was left on her mouth. "Mmm, I haven't had an apple in ages. Thank you, Maion. Thank you Chandra." She smiled at them lightly before glancing down at the rest. "What are you guys going to be eating?"

Chandra smiled softly but didn't move away, her father had told her that the girl was shy, but she couldn't help but feel a little guilty. No one had ever flinched or tried to move away from her before, they all simply accepted that Chandra would be Chandra.... it was hard considering that someone didn't know her. Still, she liked Maisie, even after only a moment of knowing her.... and part of her hoped that the other mare would like her in return. It pleased Chandra to consider that the mare seemed to be relaxing a little more withe every moment that passed. "As are you." She said with a beaming grin, part of her knew it would take time, but she didn't want Maisie to feel she needed to be so formal with her... around Maion that was fine, she knew her father was an old and well respected stallion, but she was a mare just like any other and needed no such respect.... though Chandra had to admit that her father would never willingly request for the treatment himself, he was just happy when others were happy too.

"Oh an apple, good choice." She spied the pile of food, looking over each sucullent morsel with new eyes. Finally her eyes landed on a a pile of berries, and her throughts turned to Sonnet. She blushed... how could he invade her thoughts now? But she found herself recalling their adventures, of hunting for food together or him bring her breakfast... always berries. "Berries," she said, before lowering herself to a sitting possition to help herself to them. For a moment she simply ate in silence not wanting to give her turbulant emotions away to her father.

Maion had to admit that things were going better than he had anticipated, Maisie seemed to be taking to Chandra like everyone in the herd did, his daughter was very likable and kind... openly affectionate, and even that seemed to grow on the even the most distant of the herd. It was Chandra after all that often managed to calm down Drashi and bring him back when all else failed, for that he admired his daughter. She was strong, stronger than most would recognise, but unlike the skills of a warrior her strength was quieter, more secretive... and in many ways that made her all the more stronger. She was an essential part of the herd, the glue that held people together. He smiled at that thought, perhaps she would be able to melt the ice around Maisie too.

When his turn to pick came he smiled and looked at the food, "Sweet grass for me," He picked it up and then lowered himself to the ground to so that he no longer towered over his daughter and friend. His size often came in handy but it was also a little annoying at times.

He chewed and swollowed before saying, "Maisie has a son Chandra." He hoped that this nugget of information would bring about a conversation between the pair. He knew that Maisie loved her adopted son as her own, and for that he was hers no matter what anyone said.... and of course Chandra had a weakness for foals and children, which was the reason she fought so hard to become a midwife.

It was easy enough to read the guilt off of Chandra's expression. Flinching hadn't been something that Maisie was anticipating, so it was disappointing to see the young angeni so inflicted by her actions. She dropped her jaw, ready to pour out an apology when the female spoke before her. She complimented her? Even after her rudeness of pulling back so suddenly. A calmness washed over Maisie as she felt forgiven and secure. It seemed that this girl was just as patient with her as her father was. Kindness must run in his blood. "Thank you, Chandra. Thank you," she took a little bow of her head before continuing her munching upon the ripened red apple. It was so sweet and tasty. She tried not to eat so fast but she couldn't help herself with the occasional slurp or the softest hum of delight. Once she had finished she lifted her head, mane partially falling in her face.

She had finished before her new friend and Maion, which left her standing awkwardly but she decided to relax a bit more and rest. She lowered her body, feeling the slight soreness of her wound as she flexed those specific muscles. Her face contorted slightly into a pained look but once she was on her stomach, sitting near her friends, she felt much better. By this time, since she took so long to lower herself in a gentle fashion, she just heard Maion speaking up about her son. Good old Maion, trying to attract light conversation. Maisie widened her eyes and took a deep breathe, "Yes yes... um... Cobb. He is my pride and joy. He's my darling. Though he might not... be my blood, we've both got each other in our hearts." She gave a soft smile to Chandra. "Do you have children?" She asked curiously, hoping that it wasn't to large of a question for her to handle.

Chandra smiled up at Maisie, "A son? Awwwww." It was clear that she loved children, loved their kindness, their hope, their innocence. She loved bringing them into the world.... help those mares at the delicate time in her life. Pregnancy was complicated, could go wrong.... and she didn't like the idea of foals losing their mothers without ever having a chance to know them.

Yet, as Maisie continued she found her blush spreading, her heart race fluttering. She was suddenly grateful for her dark pelt, only the white sparkles pinked. Sonnet had said it reminded him of a nebula, his north star. She smiled and looked to her father before looking to Maisie, Maion didn't know of Sonnet, at least not in a romantic sence. "Em....em.... no." She probably would have said something like, I really want them though.... but she didn't know how her father would react to the news, plus Sonnet wanted to ask his permission. She respected Sonnet and would let him do what he needed to do.

Maion watched her daughter curiously, "Are you ok Chandra?" This sudden behaviour was so out of character that he couldn't help but wonder what had caused the sudden change. They were talking about children..... and he suddenly found himself choking on the very air he breathed. "You're pregnant?" He glared at his daughter, desperate for he to deny it, to tell him she wasn't.... Chandra was his little girl, his baby..... she couldn't be pregnant?!

He held a breath. Not sure what to do or think. Eyes wide.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 16, 2012 9:41 am

Maisie felt like she was being filled up with a warmth that radiated heavens light from all this fawning over when she mentioned her adopted son. A little colt who was growing up on her all to soon. Oh how she wished he needed her around like he used to but the truth of the matter was he didn't and she had to accept this fact soon. Soon, but not yet. She wanted to hold on for a least a little longer. Maybe even one day she too will have children of her own. It was a pleasant thought to toy with but was she responsible enough? It would be something she would have to test when the time came.

While Maisie was distracted with her own thoughts and not paying attention to the females hesitant denial Maion must have been paying full attention to Chandra's every word, every breath, and every pitch that vibrated through her uneasy voice. Perhaps it was fatherly instincts that made him jump on her like so. This was a sight she hadn't seen from the Angeni before. One she didn't feel comfortable around at all. Yet, the glare wasn't aimed at her, but Chandra instead. This she wasn't used to. "Sh-she didn't say that... she said no..." the timid mare did something out of character this time and pathetically stuck her neck out for this sweet girl.
