Lily was at the rink again for the second time in a week. It was amazing how easily it had come back to her and how she had totally forgotten how much she really loved ice skating. Today unlike the last time she wore khaki corturoy pants with her sweater wanting to be warmer than she had been the previous visit.

Lily twirl happily in the middle of the rink, some people were watching her, not for her ability, but for the smile on her face and the relaxed absorbedness she had with the rink in the moment. It was a peaceful and rather innocent thing to see especially from a teenager.

Lily seemed tp come to from her daydream and just like that the moment was over, trance faded away liked a passing day. Lily skated back into the crowd gliding along humming to herself the tune to winter wonderland and twirling about every so often. Ice skating, oh it was just what she had been needed over the past few month. Ice skating, she would never forsake it again.

Usually when winter rolled around, Tara's approach was similar to a common bear: hole up at home and sleep until spring sprung. School and her other extracurriculars tended to interfere with this, but she was generally less active in the colder months than she was at any other time of year. When it came to outdoor activities, she all but gave them up, letting Kent drive her places instead of biking, and restricting her telescope use to her bedroom window until the temperature was more temperate.

This year, things were different. Sure, if Tara had thought about it more, she might have tried to take a personal vacation in May rather than December. But last May she was in a coma, and the year before, she was dead, so Tara wasn't taking any chances. Besides, there were tons of winter activities that she had yet to even try, on account of them being too darn cold for her liking.

That day found Tara bundled up in three sweaters and her warmest coat, with her favorite scarf wrapped around her neck and a faux fur-lined hat smooshed onto her head. She had let herself be driven to the rink by her brother, since biking wasn't wise if she wanted to have energy left to skate, and she hadn't felt comfortable on a bus since the coma. This made her uncomfortably hot in the car, and as she waited on the skate rental line, due to all her layers. It would be worth it when she was on the ice, she knew, but now it was torture.

Finally she had laced up the bright blue rental skates and teetered towards the door. Tara's balance wasn't bad, but the skates made her legs feel like they'd turned to Jello? Hopefully not, or she'd faceplant as soon as she set skate on the ice.

As if her body knew what she was thinking, the second Tara's skate met the polished surface, it skidded forward. Only by clinging to the edge did she manage to keep from kissing the ice, but it was a very near thing. "Oh, perfect," Tara muttered, trying to stand upright again and failing. Badly.

Lily was just coming round near the girl when she just barely caught herself on the rail the struggled to right herself. Lily shook here head, smiling lightly and skated over to the stopping beside her and holding out her had.

"Need a little help there," she said holding out her slightly chilled hand to there girl. She waited for the girl to grab her hand before attempting to put her up.

"I'm Lily," she said sweetly. "I am going to guess that you new to the ice ring.

"Desperately," Tara confessed, her face contorted from the effort it took to not fall on her face. She glanced at the offered hand, but shook her head, attempting to gesture at her situation. In the end, she had to gesture with her chin, so she wasn't sure her message got across.

"If I let go, I'll fall," she whimpered. Less out of fear- falling onto ice couldn't hurt any more than falling onto pavement- and more because she liked the sympathy she was getting. Since she clearly wasn't the best skater on the ice, maybe being the worst was the next best thing.

Lily gave a soft smile and help her hand out rather insistently. "You can't stay like that. I imagine it is very hard to stand that way. Hold the rail with one hand and take my hand with the other. I will help you stand, you won't fall."

Lily moved forward a bit, her smile still in place her had still out. "Once you learn to balance I can show you how to skate, then you will not have to worry so much about falling."

Her eyes were insistent, not wanting to leave the girl stranded on the side of rink. Lily wouldn't leave her until she could at least glide a bit. It was sometimes a bit of a hazard having a new skater in the rink that was shaky. They tended to knock others down. Lily wanted to avoid that is at all possible, no crash collision and extra sore bottoms today.

Tara had to chuckle a little. "It would be easier if I was actually standing, rather than..." What exactly was she doing? 'Hanging on for dear life' wasn't quite accurate since the probability of her letting go resulting in anything more than a bruise was kind of low. "I'm just hanging around," she decided. She did enjoy a good pun.

But the girl was insistent, and Tara knew that she couldn't very well stay there forever. "Okaaaaaaaay," she sighed, enjoying the role of damsel in distress. With more caution than she really felt she needed, she tried to at least get her skate blades to sit flat against the ice, and then in a flash, took one hand off the railing and grabbed for the girl's arm.

Lily gave a grin and a laugh at the girl's silly little joke, but still urged her away from the railing. If she stayed there she really look silly. It was pointless and she was certain the kids would laugh at her.

She was happy the girl took her advice and when she grabbed for Lily's hand she found it. Lily held on and moved slightly behind her girl switching hand to do so. She place a hand on the girl back to help straighten her out and help balance her.

"Now all you have to do is step, glide, step guide, slowly," she explained, "don't worry I will keep you steady until you get it right, even then I'll still hold you hand if you like."
