Winter, oh how she loathed the time of year where she became even more of a traceable soul instead of her usual ghostly wanderer. The blood from her tail left such a visible trail of fresh red blood dripping from the spikes which laden her tail, making it seem like she was some kind of wounded animal to most. Fortunately many would be predators were sadly mistaken when they finally caught up to the mutant femme, usually not ending well for them.
Thinking back of her own family to which she got her namesakes from, her eyes drifted skyward as she walked quietly along the sunset forest trails as her hooves occasionally crunched the ice hidden beneath the snow. She wondered how they faired as the mare was well aware how happy her mother would be at the sight of snow....she did love the white stuff unconditionally despite how cold it sometimes dipped in the lands. Of her boisterous half sister with the accursed mask of her mother, hoping that life did not bring down and extinguish the fire obviously burning in her soul. Of her kids, whom she had seen neither hide nor hair of. Her sons she worried little over, but Sapphire, dear Sapphire. Where had she gone? It had been a few seasons since she had seen her....but it did not stop her from looking, exhausting all her contacts trying to find any trace of her daughter.
Sigh.
"What's this now...." The mare breathed out, her breath catching on a whisp of air to make the steam rise as her eyes looked down to her trail - noting the blood which marked the trail not being her own. Lowering her head down as her wings folded neatly against her side she sniffed the ruby liquid despite the hungry growl from her stomach which rose in response. "Its fresh..." Odd, she didn't recall smelling or hearing anyone nearby to make such a kill; and turning in her trail she decided to investigate.
Coming on the clearing in the woods, a part of the mare stopped in her tracks while her eyes widened only slightly - not one to express much when not in the moods she was 'blessed' with. Bodies, there had to be half a dozen of them; some already partially eaten and others older by the smell of them. Stepping over the pools of blood and debris, she leaned her head down once more to run her ruby orbs across the scene...while not disgusted by her nature the mass death site was a bit unnerving. Noticing the marks on the bodies she came to the realization that it had to be a skinwalker; no other creature could bring so much death and carnage to the area.
However, when something caught her eye she felt her blood run cold, moving over to the middle of the bodies where she saw a small circlet, beads with teeth attached to them. She knew where this came from, and she could only grit her teeth as she contained the rage which threatened to boil over and ignite the demons of her soul as her body shook. "This cannot be..."

 He had been lucky.
He and Airlia were never very far apart. They both worried over the fate of their children, especially Sapphire, though Airlia seemed to believe that their sons would be fine. Though they were traveling together, often Airlia would leave for a time, to quell her bloodlust and deal with her demons. Cobalt knew Airlia well enough to let her alone when she needed it, so he hadn't worried when she had run off on her own. He was going to bunker down and wait for her return, but then he had heard the sound of a herd moving through the lands. Curiosity won him over, and so Cobalt had followed them, moving invisibly through the shadows.
By the time he had reached them, it was too late. The attack had already begun, and a ferocious Skinwalker had set upon them from behind. The poor groundlings couldn't hope to escape such wrath. Cobalt had tried to help them, to steer them from safety. But they had quailed at his leathery wings, his dark appearance. Cobalt didn't blame them. He was a monster to them, almost as deadly as the Skinwalker tearing through their ranks.
The smell of blood rising in the air, Cobalt's diminutive fangs ached with his always-suppressed bloodlust. The Skinwalker was close. Frantic with desperation, Cobalt tried to frighten the rest of the herd away from the true monster of creation. But the Skinwalker was too close.
Hearing a ferocious snarl, Cobalt turned to meet the wild, feral eyes of the beast with his own neon gaze. His eyes narrowing, Cobalt growled a challenge, flaring his wings out from his black frame. The Skinwalker lunged, its extended coyote claws finding purchase in Cobalt's flesh, ripping open the scars left from his fight with Raven. Rolling, Cobalt smashed the body of the Skinwalker against the ground, freeing himself from its deadly grasp. Cobalt's circlet of teeth clattered into the snow as the Skinwalker's attack continued, the wild teeth trailing blood as they scraped along Cobalt's leg.
To fight further would be suicide. Cobalt snapped open his wings, blessedly undamaged, and took to the sky, blood dripping from his wounds. He hoped the remainder of the herd had gained enough time to flee to safety.
Cobalt returned a while later, returning along the tracks the Skinwalker had left as it left the scene to pursue some other quarry. Limping on his foreleg, Cobalt surveyed the damage with a soft sigh. His wounds weren't bad, they would heal. But these poor souls were slaughtered like lambs. His breath suddenly cold in his lungs, he lay down towards the edge of the carnage, too weary to even think past his sorrow. He was awakened by a soft voice and the damned bloodlust caught in the back of his throat.
The voice he knew. Pulling himself to his feet, frozen blood cracking on his skin,he stumbled over to his lover. "Airlia," he whispered hoarsely. "It was a Skinwalker...I tried to help, but..." His eyes filled with tears. "I failed them."

The tension her jaws executed to hold back the demons clawing at her very soul to arise at the mere thought of harm coming to her family, HER blood was causing her teeth to creek and grind against her ears. The heavy beating of her heart with the sheer rage associated with the dark, unforgiving traits of her bloodline filling her body with the desires of scorn god challenging sinner; that was, until she noticed through her near blinded sight a figure move off to her side. Snapping her head over as her elegant hair lifted and twirled at the movement while mouth curled in a deadly snarl, the mare was almost dumbstruck when her eyes had caught a glimpse of the dark blues and blacks.
In an instant, she sworn it was the figure of her daughter standing before her; but as rage subsided slowly and her senses gripping onto what was left of her calm demeanor told her the frame belonged to no other than her beloved Cobalt. It all made sense, the bodies, the blood, the bracelet....it was Cobalt's. In a moment of relief she could feel her heart ache that once more her trail had led to a dead end, but such relief was quickly devoured by worry and concern at the state of Cobalt; all this couldn't have been from him...could it?
"Cobalt...." She breathed effortlessly, her body taking flight as her wings outstretched to give her a gliding leverage to gracefully leap over the other bodies to meet with her soul mate. Although it may not have looked it from her still placid expression, her dark eyes shone with concern for her beloved dark stallion...gaining from his words that he had tried to save these corpses from a skin walker to little avail. While she had little sympathy to the ones who fell for such a beast, she knew if it had been infact one of her own she would have been in an uncontrollable rage...but Cobalt....dear Cobalt and his golden heart.
"You did not fail them....I know, you did everything you could." It was true, his wounds littering his dark pelt told her he fought as long as he could. Pushing through the snow to meet her chest with his she attempted to hold his frame and give him a sense of stability. Brushing her cheek against his neck in an attempt to comfort, Airlia moved her head back a moment to touch her horn against his forehead. "Hold still."
Closing her eyes, the Mare focused all her energy into her horn to attempt to heal him the best she could despite her diluted unicorn's blood. She could feel the red glow of her power illuminate her horn, managing just to clot further most of his major wounds but it was better than nothing she supposed. Darn muddied blood. "Are you alright, though? What happened to the Skinwalker?"

Cobalt sighed softly as the healing power flooded through his body. His wounds weren't fully healed, but they mostly stopped bleeding, at least. "I'll be fine," he said softly, his eyes sorrowful. "The Skinwalker left, chasing the rest of the herd. I don't know what happened to them." He paused, his piercing blue eyes scanning the field of corpses. "They ran from me, too." He sighed. Sometimes his Kalona blood still caused him a great deal of sadness. He shook his head, clearing the bitterness from his thoughts. "Are you okay, love?" He asked, the soft smile he reserved for Airlia shining on his face. "I know how worried you've been."
He paused, concern pulling at the corners of his face. "You should know....I heard about the whereabouts of one of our children. Not Sapphire..." he whispered softly, "But of Paradox." His eyes flashed, the mix of sorrow and anger usually associated with Paradox burning in his eyes. "He's taken to terrorizing innocents in some blackwater bog a few leagues from here. Perhaps he's seen Sapphire. He always loved her well, and didn't fight with her like he did Raiden." Cobalt hadn't spoken to Paradox since the night he had stormed away from home, raging about his father's domicile tendencies. "We could go...but he won't want to see me," Cobalt said with a sad smile. "And he might not know anything."

As the glow began to die down and fade with time amidst the gloom of their surroundings, the mare leaned her head back before giving her neck and mane a shake; feeling the effects of the sapped energy which came from healing. Paired with her constantly draining blood from her tail she knew it was dangerous to heal when she was weak, but she knew her body best and of course...she would do anything for the stallion before her. Craning her neck to follow his eyes along the corpses it was nothing new for her to see bodies littered around usually from her own doing...but her mate was more sensitive than she was to it. None the less, there was nothing accepting about the ruthlessness of skin walker's skilling rampages. Already her blood began to simmer once more, unaware that her love had been in danger...if anything had happened to him she was sure she would have lost it forever.
"I'm sorry, Cobalt." She muttered gently, no stranger to the ignorance and prejudice of the normals. "Its just the way they are...no matter how much of an angel you try to be, normals are such visual judgers." Turning her head back to her mate she watched the sorrowed expression shift to a more upbeat one, as she touched her nose to his cheek in a tender motion. "I am....will be okay. I understand how my mother felt when I left as a child..." It was a hard realization, losing one of your children, even though Sapphire was an adult. it just brought memories of her mother, and how much danger she could get in with her mental sate of mind. Letting out a sigh, the tired looking mare slumped her shoulders a bit, a notion she didn't do in the company of others.
Perking her ears though at the new development of Paradox, the mare blinked in a reserved concern. It didn't sound too serious, she supposed she had her own trials of picking on normals once she was big and confident enough to be the aggressor...but that wasn't Cobalt's style nor did she agree too much on it now. "Paradox? Really...." Turning her gaze to her hooves before looking off into the distance she pondered the reality of it all, knowing all too well the clash her mate and son often had. While she hoped he was doing well as a full grown stallion, she saw a lot of herself in her son and knew he would survive. Perhaps he hooves off parenting needed to be corrected.
"It would be nice....to see him again." How long had it been? "Either way, he has a right to know about his sister if he doesn't already. One more pair of eyes can't hurt." Glancing back to Cobalt through her peripherals, the mare had her own concern laced along her placid face. "Are you going to be okay seeing him...Cobalt?"

"We will find her, love. If it takes us forever, we will find her." Cobalt rested his cheek on hers for a moment, a small gesture of love and reassurance. Airlia so longed to find Sapphire, and so Cobalt did as well. Sapphire had always been more frail than her brothers, and Cobalt worried for her more than the other two combined.
It had always been Paradox that Cobalt worried for, from the very beginning. Doxy showed more bloodlust than any of their children, and maybe even rivaled Airlia in that regard. However; Paradox did not need blood to survive like Airlia did. Cobalt knew that it was only lust that led Paradox to kill, not need, and he had tried for years to influence his son away from that habit. He had failed, miserably...and had driven Paradox away through his efforts.
"I agree, Paradox needs to know. I'm sure he would help search for her as well..." Cobalt trailed off, his brow furrowed in troubled thought. He jumped back to himself at Airlia's question, at the sound of his name. "Honestly...I don't know. He is...he has rejected everything I stand for. Showing him kindness would be like kicking him in the face." Cobalt's eyes filled with sorrow. "He hates me, Airlia, but he adores you. He will put up with my presence if you are there." The stallion sighed softly, shoving his sadness deep down inside. "I...I will try my best to be okay, Airlia. I love him, so, so much, and I hate that he hates me, but...I suppose I'll just have to come to terms with it."
Cobalt knew Airlia could set Paradox straight, if she so chose. Not only did Paradox adore her, but Airlia was a very good (if sometimes fierce) mother. Cobalt sighed as he remembered their fears turn to dust as they lovingly welcomed their little family. "Airlia?" he asked, his voice suddenly vulnerable, "Do you ever think that maybe...maybe more foals wouldn't be so bad?" Even if Paradox was a royal pain, the joy Cobalt felt at being a father surpassed any of the negatives of the role.

"What if we don't have forever..?" Airlia breathed, her heart clenching at the thought of failure. It had begun to encase her thoughts, her emotions; to something she just couldn't shake. What if she was already dead, her sons lost to her forever...what if she failed her mate? Would she fail to become the mare she hoped to be and not lose herself to a curse which wasn't even her fault to begin with? Never had she begun to lose herself like she had been, and she hated more than anything to show Cobalt that she was slowly driving herself crazy and down a path that may not be reversible. The touch of his cheek against hers made her close her eyes and take a breath, trying to ease her turmoil ridden soul.
It hurt to see the pain laced in her mate's words, and a part of her knew it was her fault as well. While she felt blessed beyond what she deserved he found a way to look past well; everything she was in order to find such a place in his heart was nothing short of a miracle in her eyes....the fact of it was her blood lived on. Her dormant nature was gaining a place in her son's heart and she had done nothing to quell of correct it...instead she had run off with her own demons; leaving the one who shouldn't have such a position to fend for himself.
It would be like he's watching his own unchecked demons live through his son... Airlia thought bitterly at herself; frowning in thought as she continued to listen to him silently.
"Enough." She snapped, the bite not directed to her mate but at her own blindness; the mare had a problem with her switch turn emotions and she hoped he didn't take it to heart. "I cannot tolerate such a rift in my family, you all are all that I have in this world." It was true, there were not many who could see past her spiked exterior to see the scared and tormented mare inside capable of so much more. "I will see to it things are rectified, I will fix my mistake." At this point, she saw it no other way.
Perhaps if she was a better mother, one who doted and fawned over her children like the ones she'd see in the meadows....but she wouldn't allow her son and her mate to be at arms; even if things may end badly with her and her son she'd keep trying till she made it right.
It wasn't until his next question that caught her in a rare moment of vulnerability similar to his own, looking to the dark stallion with wide and almost...scared eyes. She hadn't honestly thought of more, considering as of late she was positive she'd ruined the three she already birthed. The mare opened her mouth to reply, but paused. Normally she felt she was the stronger of the two...at least appearance wise; and suddenly she wanted nothing more to be that collected, broody and confident mare once more.
Clearing her throat she lifted her head tall even if her body language was screaming otherwise from her facade as she turned her head away so he wouldn't be able to see her face. "I haven't" She stated truthfully, but allowed herself to continue. "A part of me wants to...the side which wants nothing more than a happy, normal life with you. You're a caring father.....but mostly for my own reasons....I'm unsure of my own success or utter failure with the three we have... would I hesitate."
