What kinds of characters do you people like to write?
My favorite kind to write are the characters who are just a little crazy.

The lone type, or just someone silent. :3

Although, I do have a lot of other favorite characters to write and mostly I write the other types, but still that's my most favorite type.

The sarcastic, slightly spoiled ones. They're just so funny and usually end up with the best lines.

I guess my top favorite would be the kind of character that is pretty generous and kind, a bit if not totally honest, yet with a hint of (or maybe more than a hint of) sarcasm/rudeness, who actually had a fairly decent life, maybe a little on the spoiled side, that are somewhat normal, being wrong at times and not skilled in everything, although skilled in some things.

...hm...I suppose there's more to it than that.

My main characters stem from me, so they're usually insane. Then there's the backstory of my character Numb, who turned himself into a walking skeleton through scientific means. His story flips back and forth between times, though, so it's a little confusing and I need to work on it.

Speaking of which, if I send somebody my Numb story, can somebody help me work on fixing it? It's a really short story.

A lot of my work is an attempt to make the reader feel what my characters are feeling, so there is a lot of stream-of-consciousness, and a lot of garbled paragraphs that jump from one thing to another.

This is from Thomas's story, an OCD case:

"Fingers tapped like rain on the window. Din. Thomas felt confinement like a shroud covering his skin itched. To go out. Saw her, the child from downstairs, playing with a group of others in the wet. Sunday. Damn Sunday. Monday was the day of garbage removal. Want to remove my garbage but that damn child had recently even gotten the others to join. In the 'game.' Of following him around. Counting. They followed him everywhere, every time he went out. Follow the leader. In his footsteps. Can't go out.
Teeth gritting. Garbage had to go. Damn kids. Children had to go. How much longer?"

Anyway, if anybody would care to help me sort out if there's anything I can do with Numb's story, message me. I'd appreciate it. I've been putting it off and putting it off.

I don't know if this will help archenteron but one thing I've seen authors do when switching between times is to put dates as chapter headings.

yeah...
i used "then" and "now" to show the difference.
people still seemed to find that confusing.

maybe i should use times instead, that's an interesting suggestion.
thanks, contra!

Someone who's cute and optimistic, but also very innocent and childish. Or someone who's randomly funny!

The excited clueless little girl that is just there to annoy the main character or the clueless character that doesn't make funny jokes and doesn't know when people are making fun of them.

Haha, nice, Kasi.

Why does everyone like writing silly or happy characters? I really dig getting into the minds of those dark, twisted guys. You know, the ones that you can look at, and be like "whoah, that dude has a purpose, and he's gonna get it done."

@Fiat - Those are some of the best characters around! Do you have any samples of characters like that? It sounds interesting to read.

(I got invited to this guild and didn't know where to start so I guess I'll just post a reply here to kick things off a bit, hehe)
I like writing characters with depth. Maybe not necessarily characters with the typical, over-used issues (orphaned, abused, neglected, etc.), but maybe something a little more identifiable. I also enjoy writing characters that say strange things, get strange looks, make awful decisions from time to time, and are persistent.
All my characters differ, and my favorite in one story I wrote might be the exact opposite in personality of my favorite in another story I wrote. I'm sure you know what I mean. biggrin
