Abrafo paced the rogue lands apathetically. Ever since his mother had reappeared in his life, he'd been on edge; anxious for his cubs, his mate, and to some extent, the cubs she had been carrying. It shouldn't have bothered him, but in that demon was his siblings. If caring made him weak, then he'd gone unbearably soft.
The two-time father sauntered down to the river bed for a drink. A crisp, night wind ruffled his mane, sending shivers down his scars and his limp foot. The hyena's bite was getting worse with every year, and he knew that if he didn't treat it right now, he'd end up like some old codger hobbling around, yelling at cubs to get off his lawn.

A dark form shifted in the night. As usual the only sign of Nia moving about across the dark Savannah was the golden gleam of her eyes. Otherwise she was just another shadow. Walking along the river bank she spotted the one that she was looking for up ahead.
Abrafo.
Lately, Nia had been worried about her mate. Something about him was off ever since his mother had came and visited them. Not that she blamed him, that lioness was completely insane. The leopard shivered at the memory before stopping to watch him. What was he thinking about right now? Tilting her head she silently sat down and studied him.

The massive lion sat down at the river's side and stared into the water. What would he do if she came back? During their last encounter he tried to kill her, but hadn't been able to because she was pregnant. If anything, that made her more dangerous, and he knew that, but he couldn't just... Irritably, he frowned at his reflection. "Pansy."
And only when he was completely focused on the water did he notice something creeping up on him. If he'd been younger or less experienced with this particular feline, he wouldn't have noticed her, but as it was..."You're sloppy in your old age, Nia." He turned around to look at her with a grin.

Nia frowned. She really wished that she could just read minds. Then again...maybe not. Shaking her head the leopardess nearly jumped at Abrafo's sudden comment before laughing. "Guess so. Especially if you saw me." She smiled remembering all that time ago when she used to scare certain felines repeatively by sneaking up on them.
Purring she moved out of the shadows and closer to him. "Though I'm not the only sloppy one." She commented before looking up at him with sincerity, "Are you okay, Abra?"

Abrafo chuckled lightly. "I'm downwind; all I had to do was smell you." It didn't matter at this point if he gave away his secrets, because she knew them just as well as he did.
The lion moved to sit closer to his mate and looked back down at the water. He frowned, biting on his lower lip with enough force to pierce it. "Honestly? No. I keep thinking about her and I know it's foolish of me to think like that, but I can't stop." He shook his head. "I feel...like it's my fault that those cubs are even here. Like...if I was a stronger man, I could have destroyed her along time ago and prevented everything."

Nia huffed playfully before nudging him, "So you're saying I stink, hmm?" She grinned before pushing closer to him and resting her tail over his. The warmth of his larger body instantly flooded into the leopardess, taking away any night chill.
"Oh, Abrafo." Nia blinked up at him before nuzzling him, "It's not your fault. She's your mother." The leopardess sighed, "Crazy and insane as she is - not to mention a murderer that loves tormenting others- she's still your blood relative. To be able to kill her would take a lot." She shook her head, "Not that you're weak, love. You're far from that."
"It's just that you have something that old batty demon never had."She looked up at him and licked his cheek, "You have a heart, Abra. A strong heart that shouldn't be stained black by her blood." Nia could see that though. That demoness probably wouldn't mind dying if she brought someone down with her.

Abrafo shook his head and looked at his mate, his gaze meeting hers. "Just because she birthed me doesn't mean she's my mother," he quipped. Even though he said that word from time to time it held no meaning for him. To see his cubs call Nia mother, and the love between them made him happy that they didn't have to have the same relationship.
He smiled and pressed his nose to hers. "Thank you. I don't know if I've ever said that." Abrafo rose up and smiled as sweetly as possible. "I'm glad you came after me tonight, because I wanted to talk to you about something."

Nia dropped her gaze. "True. I'm sorry." The leopardess whispered. She pressed closer to him with a soft sigh. Even though she didn't remember much about having a mother, at least she could say that she was a mother.
Tingling from his touch the leopardess flushed, "Anytime, Abra." She managed before rising up after him. "Talk about something?" She asked tilting her head slightly in curiousity, "What did you want to talk to me about?"

"Well..." He scrunched up his face. How was he supposed to go about this? "When you had...'his' cubs, I was really angry. I couldn't sleep because I was so mad. Then I calmed down and we left, but I still wasn't happy." He sighed. "Then we had our cubs, and I was happy. Really happy."
He shook his head. "What I'm trying to get at is that I'd like to have more. I want a den thats bursting at the seams with cubs full of love and happiness so they won't have to go down the same path we did."

Nia looked away guiltily. "Well you know that you weren't the only one upset by something at the time." Her tail flicked just thinking about their time spent there. Where he was gone so much and she had gotten so jealous. But why was he bringing this up now?
The leopardess looked back at him and frowned. "Okay." So he was happy. That was great, she was too. So why was he talking about....oh. Oooh.Nia made choked noise in her throat before letting out a laugh. "That's what you want?" Purring the leopard rubbed against her mate, "Such a nice idea is easily granted, Abra. So of course." She blinked up at him with her golden gaze. Actually having a den bursting with cubs and love wasn't such a bad idea. Not a bad idea at all.

Since he didn't know the words to comfort her, he promised himself that he would try better as a mate. Hell, he thought he was doing that already, and it was only getting better. In the past he might have lain with another, but that was then and this was now.
Abrafo's ears flipped back when she laughed, but they eagerly swiveled around. He rubbed his cheek against hers, letting the scent glands mark her as his. "Then lets get started, before we get attacked by our hoard." He laughed and gave her a teasing n** on the ear before sauntering towards a more secluded tree area. What had started out as a depressing monalogue was turning into a wonderful night.
