Unnr growled as she slipped into the water. Her long tail snaked through the water behind her, helping propel her along. She was in a rotten mood, having been put down today by both a land dweller and a mer horse. She cursed and swore under her breath, taking a deep draw of air before diving under to catch her dinner.

Anzu was returning from a hunt of his own. He caught sight of Unnr just before she vanished beneath the surface of the water and grinned. The slimy mare was always a welcome sight.
He circled back and around as he drifted downwards, circling the area where he'd last seen her. She was a skilled diver and would be gone a long time once she'd vanished beneath the waves. So there was only one thing to do. Bait her to surface.

He was correct in thinking that. She was down there for quite a while. When she finally emerged, it was with a rather large fish between her jaws. Holding on to it tight, she swam for shore, not really seeming to notice there was someone watching her. She was still brooding over the slight to her ego.
Reaching shore, she climbed up on the bank and went to settle down to scarf down her fish, tail flicking irritably back and forth. ******** the land dwellers, and ******** the mer horses. ******** them all. ******** everyone.

Anzu, much to his disgust, had ended up trying to draw her out of the wrong part of the lake. It wasn't entirely his fault. Once she was deep enough beneath the murky waters she was difficult as hell to spot. Frowning he circled back around her trying to get close without disturbing her as she tore away at her fish.

She tore into the fish. She was so angry, she just ripped the fish apart, not really caring about eating it. She just wanted to take out her frustrations and make an awful mess. She was partially accomplishing both.
When she was satisfied she'd done enough, she settled down, curling her scaly tail around her. That's when she finally noticed Anzu, and a smile crossed her maw. "Anzu!"

Once noticed the bulky raven lord glided in closer to land two body lengths away from his companion. It was no graceful touch down but a dull thud that he landed, a smile still showing from beneath his beaked mask.
"Unnr, it is good to see you," his attention drifted to the torn and scattered fish guts at her feet. "Though I do hope to find you in a better mood in the future. What, if I may ask, are you doing? Trying to feed the birds?"
Anyone who knew him (though perhaps Unnr was the only one who knew him well enough) would be able to distinguish the amusement in his voice. An insult it may have seemed on the surface, but the truth was far from it.

"Ah, well." She looked down at the remnants of the fish she had caught, feeling somewhat sheepish now. It would have made a fine meal, if only she hadn't torn it up. Oh well. It was too late for that now.
"I had a bad day." She snarled a little at the memory, then turned back to Anzu. "How has your day been?"

He shook his heavy wings then folded them close to his sides. Above them the sound of birds suddenly taking to wing could be heard. After a few brief moments of chaos the air fell still again.
"It is a pity that a mare so lovely as yourself should ever have a bad day," he grimaced. "One would think we've suffered enough to fill a lifetime's worth. If it would ease your mind, please feel free to speak."

The naga looked up at Anzu and she smiled at his black and blue feathered form. Her bad day didn't seem so bad at all when he was around. As long as she had him, it was okay.
"Thank you, Anzu, but I'm fine now. It was only something small. Nothing to worry about. How are you? Are you hungry? I could go catch you a nice fat fish. I wouldn't mind at all." She got to her feet, more than ready to leap back into the lake.

"If you say it is so," he said, diverting his attention for a mere moment from Unnr and her fish to the trees above him. "I have faith that if you ever needed my assistance you would not hesitate to say so."
The birds fluttered again. The noise made it sound as if they'd all agreed to one bit game of birdy musical chairs. He turned his attention back to the serpentine female before him.
"Only you would be so kind," he grinned. He adored fish, but could not catch it himself. "And I am certain my little friends will enjoy the fresh treat you've laid out for them upon the shore."

"Of course, Anzu. I wouldn't hesitate for a second." She nodded and smiled to emphasize what she had said. Not for a second. She knew Anzu would be there for her.
She glanced up at the birds as they fluttered, and then turned to slip into the lake. She wasn't as fond of his birds as he was, but she'd never dare say as much. She knew they were his pets.
"I hope they enjoy their treat then," she said after a moment, peering at the birds with just her head above the water. She wrinkled her nose for just a second, then dove down to the depths. She'd find the biggest fish for Anzu.

Her dislike of his birds was one of the few things that seemed to eternally elude his grasp despite every effort of his own to understand (and in many a case, control) every working of the world around him. Perhaps he did see the signs and lied to himself, perhaps he was truly and simply oblivious. It was impossible to say.
In reply to Unnr he only nodded. She knew well how much she meant to him and he felt confidant that there was no need to repeat his small praises more then what was necessary.
Once she'd vanished again beneath the waters he started to casualy walk along the edge of the lake.

She'd flown quite a distance, and now she was thirsty. She knew there was a lake around here somewhere, she'd seen it before. Touching down when she saw the blue of the rippling water, she decided to travel the rest of the way on foot. She'd be able to scope out the area better that way, and hopefully see a threat before it was too late.
Peering out of the trees surrounding the lake, she saw nothing. There was a dark shadow down the shore, but she was sure she could have her drink and take off before it became a real threat, if it was one. Carefully, she stepped out of the protection of the forest and made her way to the water's edge. There she dipped her head and lapped at the cool water. She'd earned the long cool drink.

Anzu was a little baffled. The stranger looked as though she'd spotted him and yet did not hesitate a moment to approach the waters.
If only she knew what was lurking down there.
Every so slowly, yet with a menicing tone to his gate, he started moving toward the winged female. She wasn't a threat, but still. This was Unnr's lake and he knew well that Unnr didn't take kindly to guests.
