Sometimes when people really want to see something as supernatural- they skip over all the perfectly good natural explanations.

If you're "lucky" they ignore those comments.
If you're not- they accuse you of being a wet blanket or pissing in their cheerios.

I thought it would be fun to share some of these- because I've collected a few lately.

Situation: Woman is seeing a lot of black birds. What does it mean!?
Explanation: OMG RAVENS ARE MY SPIRIT ANIMAL!

Ignored Response: It could also mean that there is a suitable ecosystem for that particular bird to thrive.

Oh ravens and crows. They're quite popular for this. Of course, no one stops to consider the fact that they're quite common in many areas and maybe they've only just started noticing them lately because they want them to be their "spirit animal". There's scores of crows around where I live and I think they're rather awesome but usually not particularly supernatural. Now if I started seeing actual Ravens everywhere (which are not common to the area) I'd look into two things. I'f I wasn't the only onw who'd noticed them, I'd look into what ecological wierdness had caused the influx. If they were just following me though, I'd ask Odin just what it was that he wanted.

As to sillyness and ignoring of common sense, yeah, I've got a few of those stories.
"Look at the wierd floating smudge in this photo! I think it's a ghost! The house I took it in must be haunted!"
Yeah, or it's dust on the lense. Your camera's cheap and you don't have a lense cap. Seriously. It looks like dust.

I once saw a sign at an Asian mall we shop at, for a learning center:

"Someones looking everywhere for wisdom, but the wise ones is all over here."

Sort of sums up how I feel about some people. They'll spend years saying they're -seeking- and -searching- and -looking-, but they don't know who their god/goddess/guide/totem/protector/ghost toaster is.

9 times out of 10, they've never bloody well -asked-. They just keep sighing and playing at being spiritual and mysterious, and looking under the sofa cushions for 'signs'.

Most things will just answer the question, if you have the common sense to ask it. At the very least they'll give you a clue, or say "I really want you to figure this out on your own", if that's the case.

I swear common sense is a rare 'psychic gift'.

There are lots of ravens and red hawks where I live- I give them friendly waves (I also wave at dogs and cats on the street ninja ).

That one is pretty classic.

I'm beginning to think that.

There were heeeeeaps of crows in Parisian cemeteries. I liked that they had the aesthetic sense to hang out there.

I know. It's so cliched. that's why I was so startled when I actually had it presented to me. He was a very credulus, self described "ghost hunter" who showed up to a few rituals but stopped coming after too many people ignored his paranormal thoeries.

I mostly try to avoid this myself. And while I have asked...I got no clear response and don't want to ask again for free of sounding incomptent and whiny. XD But the best example of this is one of my friends who, alongside others, is the 'protector' of our area and is a werewolf. Cuz clearly being really hairy and liking dogs makes you one.

One of the latest ones:
Situation: A person get headaches around a certain time of day every day.
Explanation: OMG PSYCHIC ATTACK!
Ignored Response: That time in the afternoon is about when your blood sugar drops because you haven't eaten in over twelve hours.

OMG! Robins and juncos are TOTALLY my spirit animals. During the summer there are robins, then once it gets cold BAM juncos magically appear in their places!
It seems as logical as the whole crow thing.

What exactly is a spirit animal supposed to be?

In Heathenry there are fylgia, which are sort of animal soul things attached to you. They might run in families, like luck.

Would they take a physical form then, or is it up to them?

It's actually pretty mysterious, at least from where I'm sitting. There's not a whole heap of lore on it, and some of the lore gets them confused with the Disir. I think they can do, but it doesn't happen often. And it tends to be a handful of animals, like wolves and bears, rather than really random ones.

I have less examples of this from the supernatural side and more from the opposite side. I'm too used to what I've begun referring to as the fallacy of fireballs. If it doesn't look like magic in a video game it's not real magic, ergo no such thing.

I've met those types Adalyna. Personally, the more flashy and Harry potter it is, the more I look for how they're pulling it off. In my experience, real magic is much more subtle. It's not about visual effects.
