Sailor Thrymr, Senshi of the Southern Lights
A Quest
PostPosted: Mon Dec 06, 2010 11:07 pm

Name: Auguste de Saint-Meran.

Nickname: None.

Age: 17 years old.

Birthday: January 19th.

Sign: Capricorn.

Gemstone: Garnet.

Blood Type: A.

Fav. Food: Cinnamon Toast Crunch. He'll just carry it around to munch on it. Boxes have been seen more than once sticking out of his school bag.

Hated Food: Tomatoes. They're too slimy and make sandwiches soggy.

School: Azure Valley Academy

Hobbies:

  • Pool - His father's favorite past time, Auguste has picked up his father's love for pool (not to be confused with billiards). Growing up, Pierre de Saint-Meran taught his son everything he knew about the game, from techniques he could use and what type of wood cue to use, to how to look good while playing. Auguste has been playing pool since he was about six and has competed in several games during dinner parties hosted at his home (which is very large and grand, since his father is an International Consultant and his mother is the daughter of a former French diplomat). He enjoys the game very much, and enjoys it even more when he can win - he rarely plays for money, but he'll do it if asked.

  • Dance - He dances on the side, but only because he's been forced to do it from an early age. His parents told him that ballroom dancing would look good and impress the ladies when he grew up, and so he's been taking lessons since he was ten. He doesn't find it particularly fun, but it does at least provide him with a creative outlet, and it pleases his parents, so he does it anyway.

  • Gardening - Pretty straightforward. Auguste's parents have hired help to do the gardening, but his mother would occasionally allow Auguste to help her out while she supervised, and he took to it like a fish to water. It's not something he does all the time, but sometimes when he just wants to relax he'll go and sit outside and fiddle with the plants.

Virtues:

  • Polite - Having grown up in a very dignified household, Auguste is used to putting on appearances; except in his case, his easygoing and polite mannerisms are all genuine. A normally very mild-mannered and easygoing person, Auguste's parents have taught him to be respectful to every person he meets, whether he likes them or not. Give respect where respect is due is his philosophy, as well as showing a kind hand to everyone, despite differences. Granted, sometimes this isn't easy, but he at least tries to maintain some sort of composure at all times.

  • Loyal - Under most circumstances, Auguste is a very faithful and loyal individual. He is invested in the well-being and happiness of other people, especially those close to him, and always seems to be interested in their lives (without being creepy about it).

  • Careful - He doesn't act recklessly; he tends to be the voice of reason in times of great stress or great turmoil, and he never dives headfirst into something without first trying to understand it. He is thorough and he tries to research things before doing anything, whether schoolwork or hobbies, or anything. When others panic, he can usually be found trying to calm people down, or keep people from panicking.

Flaws:

  • Naive - Hand in hand with his easygoing nature, Auguste is very naive, nearly unwilling to see the more negative natures in people. He doesn't like to admit that some people can be truly evil, and for this reason, he tends to keep himself politely distanced from most. He tries not to form many deep relationships, preferring to keep them shallow and "acquaintance-like" at best. Auguste has been taught how to interact a certain way, how to put on a show, so to speak, but when it comes to actual, real, emotion-driven friendships, he tries to avoid them. This also means he has a real issue with being wrong; he doesn't like to admit that he was wrong about something, that he made a mistake.

  • Withdrawn - He tries not to show too much emotion, but when he is angry, or when his faith in a person is broken, he tends to lash out and act recklessly, most commonly at those nearest to him and at whomever he is fighting. This is also true of when he realizes that he's wrong; he gets very irritable and snappish, mostly because of his desire to stay right. This isn't to say that after a while he'll accept his failures, but at least at the beginning he doesn't want to admit to them.

  • Ignorant - His privileged lifestyle was a gift, but at times it can also be somewhat of a curse. Auguste is very used to having things a certain way, which means that he doesn't always understand when something is different, or when something is perhaps a little rougher than he thought. This means that he can be slightly arrogant at times, though it's mostly unintentional.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

  • Eyes: Bright turquoise blue.

  • Hair: Straight, snow white, soft and waist-length, partially pulled back into one larger braid while strands fall loose about his face. There are several tiny braids woven throughout it as well.

  • Face: Long and slender. Pale skinned, with a faint smattering of freckles.

  • Clothes: He tends to stray towards elegance and dignified; more formal and dressier clothing than what might think as normal everyday wear. Favorite colors are turquoise, blues, and greens.

Senshi Alias: Sailor Thrymr

Senshi Element: Southern Lights

Fuku Colour: White.
Main Color: Red.
Secondary Color: Orange/pink.

Fuku:

  • Collar -- CC!
  • Bow -- CC!
  • Bodice -- CC! Something elegant!
  • Brooch -- A small pink/orange star.
  • Bottoms -- White pants, maybe with a red/orange/pink gradient?
  • Tiara -- Traditional gold tiara with a red jewel in the middle!
  • Choker -- CC!
  • Shoes -- Knee-high or thigh-high boots, preferably laced up!
  • Gloves -- White, long and elegant.
  • Accessories -- Gold stud earrings with little stars.

Challenge: And now you'll see the light.

Attacks:

Sailor Scout Attack:

Heart of Light: Thrymr presses his hands together and then opens them, palms facing skyward. An aurora of hearts gusts towards his opponent like a wave, and does mostly lightly bruising sort of damage. This is more of a short-range attack and cannot penetrate most protective barriers. This does not last very long, depending on the strength of the victim, 30 seconds at maximum. He can use this once per battle.

Super Sailor Scout Attack:

Lover of Light: Thrymr, presses his hands together briefly. Then he pulls them apart, and as he does a glowing, aurora appears between his hands. He then sends it careening towards his opponent, where the aurora breaks into dozens of tiny hearts to bombard his opponent, causing small pinpricks of pain (like paper cuts). It usually lasts around 35 seconds. He can use this once per battle.

Eternal Sailor Attack:

Crowning Glory: In his final attack, Thrymr raises one hand to the sky, tiara glowing. He points his index finger up and a swirl of glowing light erupts from his fingertip, twisting around his arm like a small tornado almost, and when it gets big enough, he swings his arm around (using his other hand to sort of hold it, like one would hold a rifle) and points at his opponent. The golden white energy is sent blasting towards them, somewhat similar to the effect a cannon and cannonball might have. Damage is subjective to the opponent, will likely leave bruises. However, if Thrymr is injured and/or exhausted, the effect is weaker, and each time it takes a bit out of him. He can only do this move twice before his energy is completely spent.

Hello!
I was curious as to why you're just using "Borealis" for the name instead of "Corona Borealis".
Since the name together means "the Northern Crown", it would make more sense to have "Corona" instead of "Borealis"... but I don't know your thought process. XD;
Just curious!

Haha, well, as a waitress Corona to me is a beer, and Corona Borealis sounded too long. xDD;;

So no real reasoning besides my own personal thing. 8'D;; I might change it, though~

heyyyyyyyy mizu. ima crit you. cause i love yer boys. srsly. cB

person:
CAPRICORN WHOO.

i think theres a bit of a conflict between his sambo and his peaceful demeanor. i think its mostly with the last line. i cant see a calm and serene person beating the crap out of someone xD
unless its just like moments when hes truly been betrayed or something ...
perhaps add another virtue/flaw to balance this out?
though i dont know how much that would help ...
okay i feel like that doesnt make sense now xD

what happens if the situation concerns himself or a friend? for example, billy bob is picking on him and a friend at school- even worse, a lady friend. how can he keep a calm demeanor and defend her at the same time? basically, there has to be some line between friendly and unfriendly, calm and tense. i hope that makes sense ...

and for 'to a fault' does he feel hypocritial/ashamed beause he is not keeping the peace as he wishes? basically, if hes mopey, how can he protect the peace? and how does one lash out at things and still keep an air of calmness?

continuining on this, if his faith is shattered, will he still be calm and serene around them?

senshi:

for me, i think the biggest thing is how he can be considered the senshi of elegance. what i see is mostly attacks revolving around crowns, rather than any sort of ... elegance. maybe senshi of royalty, crowns, kings, etc. would be more fitting?

also, as i learned through my quest, the second/super attack should be a mere extension of the normal attack. right now they're reading off as two different attacks; one as a sort of dart, and another as a sort of binding rope.

hope it helped mizu love <3
also, hes sexy. lets rp if he comes into play :U
(which he will. cause ill make you put him in play xD)

Supppp Chiiii

Someone can be peaceful and still fight to defend themselves, which is the reason why he does Sambo in the first place. Under normal circumstances, he would have no use for it, except for a desire to be strong in order to provide and take care of himself and to protect others. It's not like he goes out trying to pick fights, but if the situation warrants it, and being peaceful isn't working, he'll fight.

And that was the point; he ISN'T calm when he lashes out at people.

** That being said, it's really hard to nail down a specific personality, really. I've found that 99.9% of my characters have a habit of turning out very differently when I actually roleplay with them, so it's hard for me to pin specifics on them. What he'll do in certain situations will probably not be what I think he'll do; characters have a way of writing themselves and surprising you. **

As for his Senshi, I still maintain that he's Senshi of Elegance. I picked that one out for him because it worked with his character and because crowns / royalty / etc. are on par with elegance to me. I don't really want to change that hahaha. If it comes down to being the only thing needed to change, then obviously I'll make the necessary changes, but for right now I still like it~ <3

His Senshi attacks do need a little bit of tweaking; someone else from a while back already pointed out what you said, but I forgot to fix it at the time rofl xD

Thanks for the criiiittt Chiiii dear~ <3

Reading over your profile, and had a few thoughts for you to consider.

Sambo: This is one of the things I have the biggest hang up on. At 17, he's still legally under his parents protection, and that means, if he gets hurt which CAN happen ((I used to take martial arts and I know how easy it is to get hurt by mistake, no matter how well trained you or your fellow students are. My bum-knee will attest.)) It's kind of like driving, no matter how amazing YOU are behind the wheel, you can't always control things like equipment issues, or other peoples mistakes of judgment.
It's very unlikely that any martial art school is going to have let him in, regardless of how much he can pay them, and run the risk of being sued by the parents of a minor for training him, and putting him in the path of harm, without their permission.
In this case it wouldn't be all his judgment call, since it could land the dojo in very, very deep trouble.
Also he'll have to hide any and all training equipment from them, including protective gear like padding and 'cups'. Since it sounds like his parents would be disapproving of him taking any sport, since most of them are anything but 'elegant', it seems that he would have an INCREDIBLY hard time explaining this.
Furthermore: if his parents needed to reach him in the case of an emergency, (something that could legitimately happen in DC) they'd check the school to find out what club he was in, and he'd be found out in very short order.

Another thought: (Yeah I've got a few): How does he explain any bruises from the training? Bruises and welts and the like are, again, something that happens in the course of martial arts training, and don't fall in line with 'elegant' after school activities.

I'm also curious to know more about why his parents would forbid him from taking a self defense class during times when it's pretty well known that Destiny City is practically overrun by 'Terrorists'. Is he allowed any form of self defense? Pepper Spray, perhaps? Knives, Guns and Tazers seem a bit out of line for someone his age, so I would suggest avoiding any of them if you decide to give him permission for something in this line from his parents.

---

" Cela est très agréable de vous.":
-How does his 'chivalric' aspect affect him in his Senshi life? A large number of negaverse agents are female, this could create some interesting problems, especially early on, when dealing with a female opponent. This isn't necessarily a 'bad' thing, it could open the door to some very interesting RP, but it's something to think about.

King Serenity, NOT at your service.":
- I like that you've explained his serenity is a forced affair, that he's bottling it up, but what's not clear is the point where he will explode. This means this dual nature may come off to readers as writing a character who can flip at random between being a gentleman and being Angry Chuck Norris. Since this probably isn't the impression you're looking to give, it might help to detail a little more of what might tip him over the edge, and if 'friendly fire' is a possibility.

"To a fault.": Short question. If he believes the negaverse is only misguided, how does he justify attacking them instead of talking to them? How would he react to someone like the Blood Moon Court, who would try and kill a Nega-agent, not just stop them.

Appearance: His appearance sounds like you're shooting for a male version of Queen Serenity (the original) is this intentional?

Wardrobe: Interesting wardrobe, but this may get him mocked a bit outside the goth crowd. Also, where does he get most of his clothing? Sounds like he'd need to be looking at some pretty specialized shops. Does he ever wear more 'modern' clothing?

Senshi Aspect:
- I'm afraid I'm going to be another person who reads his attacks and say I see "Crowns" or maybe "Nobility" and not "Elegance". Crowns and elegance don't necessarily go hand in hand, and there have been plenty of rulers that demonstrate this very neatly. At least as many as go the other way.

You've selected a very difficult sphere here, since "Elegance" is a pretty subjective idea. ((For example I tend to think more along the lines of Audrey Hepburn and Marylin Monroe, not say, Henry the 8th and the like.
I could see it, personally, maybe as more of an defensive sphere, along the lines of an "Unshakable" Elegance, but the Crown aspect is more the Noble Conqueror from where I'm standing.

Obviously this is just my take on it, Mouse may disagree with me, and you probably do, I'm just trying to show you where people are coming from when they say they're not visualizing Elegance and seeing someone throw magical crowns.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 20, 2011 10:51 am

I've taken martial arts myself, so I know all of that already, but if people are having a hard time with the sambo aspect, I'll just take it out and find a different hobby. I mean, it's not a crucial aspect of his person, and I don't want it to turn into some big issue, so I'll look for something else.

Like I mentioned to Chii, it's very difficult to explain how he would react in certain situations or what he might think during particular aspects. I don't really like pinning down a specific character aspect, since it always tends to change when I actually roleplay the character. xD;; But I will take your questions into consideration and think about them more carefully.

And er, that's...not my intention at all with his wardrobe. O____O;;; I was mostly just trying to figure out what his parents would want him to wear to make a good impression on those around him. I honestly...have no idea where you got that from. But I'll tweak it around to have it make more sense.

Again, if people really think that the elegance sphere is weird, then I guess I'll just...try and think of a different one instead. I don't want to have a character that everyone thinks is awkward because they don't thin kthe sphere matches.

Thank you for the critique, I appreciate you taking the time to read it <3

Quote:
Clothes: Tends to lean towards Victorian-style clothing. Ruffles and lace and belts long-sleeves and the like. And high heeled boots. Also his favorite colors are turquoise, blues, and greens.

Highlighted the part that really stood out as unusual about the clothing. These all stand out a bit, and although there are an larger number of people these days that might just pass him off as eccentric, and not 'trying to make a good impression', (at least not outside of a ren-faire) it seems like he could risk mockery outside of his school uniform. < smile Again, this doesn't mean he couldn't wear it, but he'd definitely stand out.

Although I understand not wanting to pin down certain aspects, the more you can decide on in advance, even if you're basically doing 'solos' in your head, the easier it's going to be on the staff to really get a feel for your character.

It's not that he's taking sambo that I have an issue with, it's that he's somehow keeping it a secret, and jeopardizing his dojo in the process, assuming they didn't do the checking to find out that he doesn't actually have his parents permission, however he avoided getting it. Having a 'secret' hobby is probably a really fun idea, but it's not without some potential fall out.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:11 am

Took out the clothing description already, since I figured I wasn't explaining myself well enough with it. I'll reword what I was trying to portray~

I definitely understand the staff needing to get a feel for my character, but like I said - it's just really hard to define someone overall before getting a chance to actually see how they would react to things within roleplay. But again, I'm going to work on narrowing down things a bit and focusing on getting the aspects at least relatively well.

I already took out the whole sambo thing, so I'll just think of a new hobby for now.

Thanks again~
