Name: Adetsu
Age: 23
Gender: Male

History:
Adetsu was born in Ghenza, his mother a healer, his father a woodcrafter specializing in lumber. An only child, Adetsu was able to enjoy the full force of his father's attention. Perhaps realizing he only had one chance to get things right, Adetsu's father did not so much set out to raise a son as he did to create a clone. Adetsu knew little enough affection, and from a young age, was expected to be obedient and uncomplaining. And, for the most part, he was. One of the few times he did dare complain, about some bullying from the other children, his father took a rather direct approach to the issue. He began to teach Adetsu to fight, and demanded he spend more time learning his trade, convinced the boy would toughen up with a bit more muscle on his frame. Adetsu obediently toughened. He found, in fact, that he rather liked fighting even if trees were of less interest.

A quiet, socially inept child, Adetsu's childhood was a lonely one. While no Ghenzan child wastes much time at 'play' Adetsu spent even more time learning his trade than was typical, and, without siblings to train alongside, had no one much to talk to. This changed shortly after he turned twelve, when Exrin, the thirteen-turn-old son of one his mother's healer friends, took Adetsu under his wing. Exrin was clever and charming, but tended to pick fights he had no hope of winning. Adetsu was just the muscle he needed. Their friendship intensified quickly and soon Exrin was simply known to have a large, slightly threatening shadow with him wherever they went. Adetsu had never been happier. Exrin gave him purpose, attention, affection, everything he'd been previously starved for. As the turns passed, their friendship deepened into an all consuming romance, neither of them feeling quite real without the presence of the other.

It was not the sort of thing Adetsu's father approved of. Though his son was generally obedient, no amount of censure could separate the two. As the man began to believe his son lost to the influence of another boy, his chance to separate them came. He was asked if he would be interested in moving to the Nowhere Island, where they needed more guards. As a powerfully built man, who'd had a wher for many turns, he was a perfect candidate. He took the opportunity, and of course, took his family with him. Nevermind that Adetsu was seventeen, a man himself, his father's word was still his law, and he could not defy him in this. He pleaded of course. Exrin pleaded too. But the decision was made, and the two were separated, Exrin promising, against all reason, that he would find a way to 'save' Adetsu.

On the island, Adetsu fell quickly into a deep depression. He barely spoke, going through his days in a daze. He poured his energies into physical pursuits, working until exhausted and then pushing himself with further exercise, seeking the brief solace that the resultant exhausted sleep provided. It was in this state that Kaeyne found him. Who knows what the boys saw in each other. Maybe they both recognized a need. A lostness. Or maybe it's just that they both liked to fight. Either way, their friendship formed quickly, and under the influence of a 'leader' again, Adetsu began to act a little more human. Still taciturn and unapproachable, but at least he didn't seem to be trying to kill himself through over work. As the turns passed, he even found himself, to his own dismay, happy. He didn't want to be happy. He wasn't supposed to be happy. Exrin was coming for him. But such things happen. Kaeyne's friendship was good for him. As their friendship deepened into something more, Adetsu found himself torn between old loyalty and new joy. Neither completely won, though Adetsu did, eventually, give in to his more... physical... feelings for Kaeyne. It's hard to say if they love each other. Neither of them is likely to call it such.

Of late, Adetsu has been finding the past no longer preys on him as it used to. He's twenty-three and seventeen begins to feel far away. Still, he misses Ghenza, and his loyalties to Exrin are not forgotten. Kaeyne knows this. His father has been pressuring him to get a wher of his own and join the guard, something Adetsu's been resisting. He knows such a decision will tie him to the island permanently. He and his father have reached a compromise, in that he's agreed to enter training as a white candidate. His father considers the white guard useful, while Adetsu sees it as an excellent way to buy time. However, as Kaeyne has explicitly forbidden his attempting to impress white, this compromise is somewhat problematic. For this reason, he's standing for the current 'normal' clutch, hoping to impress before the issue becomes, well, an issue.

Appearance:
Adetsu is one intimidating looking dude. Standing 6'5" with broad shoulders and a build that speaks of either heavy physical labor or long hours spent working out, he's a pile of muscles with a head on top. Yet, despite his size, or perhaps because of it, he moves with certain grace, as if he's aware that simply lumbering about willy-nilly might cause some damage.

Adetsu's skin is a dark bronze with a ruddy undertone and it's marred by a number of minor scars. His face is long, with a sharp chin and a rather flat nose. His hair, when he allows it to grow, is a light strawberry blond. But, few know this as Adetsu keeps his head cleanly shaved. His eyes are a very light blue, fringed with long, pale lashes.

Adetsu always dresses simply. He usually wears black, plain slacks and tunics cut for work. Of note is a rather large belt knife which, though oversized for some, fits neatly in his large hand.

Personality:
Adetsu is a rock. Solid. Dependable. Not very fun to talk to. Hurts to be hit with.

Alright. So, he's not just a rock. In truth, Adetsu is a fairly complex individual, but he'd be the last to realize this. Adetsu isn't actually good at realizing things. He's a very literal person. He thinks in straight lines, starting at point A. taking no detours and ending cleanly at point B. Any other sort of thinking tends to confuse them. This may be why he has absolutely no sense of humor. Jokes puzzle him. Sarcasm, he picks up on, but he rarely uses it himself. He doesn't talk much anyway, so asking him to use his one alloted sentence a day for sarcasm is asking a lot. He's not one to laugh, really, unless it's a laugh of genuine happiness instead of humor. And he's not one for genuine happiness. Adetsu isn't stupid, exactly, though he's certainly not sharp. He's just direct. He expects directness from others.

Speaking of directness, Adetsu has a bad habit of solving problems with his fists instead of with his brain. He's not malicious. He's not mean. He's not even quick tempered, in fact, he almost never gets mad (except when talking to his father). He's just a physical person. His body is his tool of choice instead of his brain. When dealing with someone causing a problem, be it someone harassing Kaeyne or a rowdy drunk, Adetsu is likely to ask them, firmly, to stop. Once. Then he'll start hitting things. When he thinks his point is made, he'll stop. Adetsu doesn't actually have any desire to hurt anyone, he just doesn't feel bad if he does.

Adetsu's moral compass spins a bit more freely than some, as his willingness to hurt people might indicate. He's no sadist, he takes no pleasure in cruelty, but he doesn't feel much guilt about it either. In Adetsu's world there's really only one 'absolute' good. Loyalty. When he gives his, he gives it completely. He's no 'yesman', he's not afraid to argue with his leader of his choice. He's more the 'trusted general' sort, a second-in-command. He'll argue, but when push comes to shove, he does what he's told. And, if it's to fulfill the obligation of loyalty, he doesn't feel bad about it, regardless of what the task is. Of course, when that loyalty is divided, it tears him up inside, and he's capable of deep depression and endless self recriminations. But that's all under the surface, stuff only Kaeyne sees, and him, rarely.

In his dealings with others Adetsu is curt, though not precisely impolite. He just likes to use few words as possible. He's highly respectful of authority, and generally obedient, provided the orders given don't come in conflict with his loyalties. His leader is always his 'ultimate authority'. His leader is, in fact, always his everything. Adetsu is an incredibly dependent personality, and he makes those he's loyal to his entire world. They're his one stop shop for affection, friendship, purpose, sex, and anything else he needs. While he doesn't need to be at their side at all times, he needs to know they exist. Left to loose ends, he's useless, unmotivated, depressed, confused, a ship stranded without a sail.

Stengths: Respectful. Loyal. Even-tempered.
Flaws: Highly dependent, humorless, violent, literal, not particularly friendly.

Is this character being trained as a 'White Candidate'? Yes, though he doesn't actually want to impress a white.

Other: Kaeyne is being apped by The Nozomi
