He was there smiling. A simple smile, one that makes others feel at ease, or calm. A serene curve of the lips. But his eyes were dead.

He had asked her how she was doing everyday. Did the small things so she would smile, but never notice it. He made her always laugh at his crude jokes, and tomfoolery. She was always smiling when he was around. Her joy, brought only bliss to him. But her eyes weren't smiling at him.

She called in sick one day. Then another. Then another. Then another. Then she came in to work. She wasn't smiling. He asked her how she was doing. She told him she was fine. He did the small things so she would smile. But she ignored them. He made jokes, and acted the fool. She told him to stop. Her eyes were dead.

-You're worthless- she spat. -An idiotic s**t that doesn't know how to mind his own business. A ******** a*****e that ruins my day everyday.- Her eyes were still dead. -Do you know how much I hate you? How much you make me sick? DO YOU!?- She screamed at him, the darkened eye now visible. His eyes, went dead.

He went home. He wrote in his journal. And he smiled. -I'm free.- he whispered to the shadow on the wall. ~But are you really?~ the shadow responded. -True, I'm not free yet. But now I know how to break the chains. Now, I know how to become free.- Smiling softly, his lips curved in a serene grace, he knew his eyes were dead.

-Now what?- she asked, irritation twisting the words. Smiling at her, he pulled the trigger. His world went dark, briefly, and he thought he heard a girl singing. Looking at the girl on the floor, his smile widened. -I love you. I always have. You hate me, and I hate to love you. So, I figured, I'd free us. You have a miserable life, and I have no life to live. We're free.- he whispered, his smile warm and caring. Pulling the trigger one more time, his world went red, and he heard the girl singing. His eyes, went dead.

She was beautiful when she danced. Yet, she always danced alone.
So lonely.

He was handsome when he sang. Yet, he never sang before others.
So useless.

She was beautiful when she smiled. Yet, she never smiled.
So pointless.

He was handsome when he laughed. Yet, he never had a reason to laugh.
So worthless.

She learned to stop looking in the mirror when she went out. He knew better than that. She hid her empty eyes from others, smothered it with fake smiles. He laughed hollowly at their jokes, when all he could feel was despair. She hated going to the clubs with her ‘friends’ to try and find cute boys. There was never going to be a girl for him, and he knew it. She was tired of trying to be happy for no reason. He wanted everyone to disappear but he knew they would never vanish. They had worth. They were happy. She looked at the pill in her hand. ‘What the hell’, he thought.
I live once.

She felt the pill enter her system, begin to dissolve into her bloodstream. He grabbed onto the sink, trying to keep from vomiting up the poison he put into himself. Staggering out onto the dance floor, she tripped over her own feet, visions dancing at the edging of her eyes. He shook his head, trying to regain his balance and get off the floor. People were laughing at her, laughing at how useless she looked. He coughed, automatically covering his mouth. Blood decorated her fingers, a warning of impending truth. He wiped his hands on his pants, trying to get rid of the evidence that haunted his eyes. She felt her vision fade as she tried once more to stand up. Crumpling to his knees, he laughed lightly, for the first time since he could remember. A smile lit her lips as she realized that she was going to die.
I die once.

She was beautiful when she danced. Yet, she always danced alone.

No longer alone.
He was handsome when he sang. Yet, he never sang before others.

No longer useless.
She was beautiful when she smiled. Yet, she never smiled.

No longer pointless.
He was handsome when he laughed. Yet, he never had a reason to laugh.

No longer worthless.

Have you thought about combining these two stories? They could both benefit from a little more detail and centralized themes, and I think that combining both of these could help with that.
