As with all Hatchings, a Feast was held the next night, leaving the previous day and evening to the newly Impressed pairs. Ground rules had been laid, of course, but the formal introduction was always up to the Weyrwoman. And, as always, she and the Weyrleader stood by the door to greet the new riders, knots handed out to each of the Weyrlings. Inaari, too, as a Junior Weyrwoman, was in attendance and standing alongside Eirlyn as the ribbons were given out.

Words of greeting and congratulations were given to each as they entered, but it was hardly a standard affair. News of the poor but surprising clutch had spread like wildfire and rumours abounded. The Curse of the North had struck Malvren at last! A white born to a Benden bronze, surely Benden would lay claim! The futures of each of these individuals was uncertain, right now, as they were marked for great things by the trick of fate that had brought a White into the ranks. The only white currently alive.

S'raid had been sent home almost immediately following the Hatching, with news for his superiors, and in an uncommon gesture, Eirlyn had retreated for the rest of the day with most of her commanding Riders. Hatchings were times of growth and jubilation, yes, but that hardly meant the Weyrwomen and Weyrleaders of the world could stop and rest. The matter of the AIVAS technology was still strong in the minds of everyone, and production of the greenhouses was finally starting to get underway.

They were tricky things, the contraptions and pools and domes of glass and wiring. It was oddly cold to look at, even against a backdrop of volcanic rock. Alien, was the word. And each of the Weyrs were putting up these alien structures in the hopes a cursed technology might salvage their future.

And yet, that was not the only plot afoot. Not by a long shot. Each of the Weyrs, armed with technology they only half understood, were beginning to stir the political plot once more. Whomever fostered the healtiest crop first would surely come out on top, for it would be from their fields of glass and metal that fertility would spread.

Eirlyn, not normally a particularly superstitious sort, had chosen to see the White's arrival of some kind of sign her path was right. Change was coming, oh yes. And it would benefit all.

Such it was that the clutch was born into tumultuous times, with promise woven into their names. Eirlyn's speech was brief this time, her words while full of pride and hope, were still more somber then in Hatchings past. They were dismissed with the usual rules - no drinking, no sex and the rest, until otherwise cleared.

Silently, she hoped that in outbreak of speculation and industry since the Council that few had noticed the approach of the Red Star as her Harpers had.

R'ne had long since abandoned any sort of drink, as her hands were shaking too badly to hold it without sloshing. She was just a bundle of nerves, having seen her Father. Father had been smiling for her. He'd greeted her with open arms, pulling her close and whispering words of praise and joy into her hair. He'd been so proud of her Impression to Gemgareth. He'd greeted the little Blue, bending down one one knee to greet him.

"You've done well," Father had told her, clapping her shoulder. He was there at the feast, but he'd told her to enjoy herself, to relax.

Relax. Sure. That would be easy after her Father showing her such love.

You need more love, Renemine. Don't worry. I will love you. While her Father had been polite, she had been so nervous after! Had her father hurt her?

NO.

Gemgareth creeled and winged back slightly at the force of the word. He shook his head and whined, but R'ne paid him no mind. She was looking about with narrowed eyes, her stomach still doing flips. Wugh.

It had been a long day after the hatching and an even longer night, Mercy didn't do well with major changes as a rule - but Aerith required so much effort and care that honestly she hadn't had enough time to really sit down and absorb all the changes that were happening..and likely by the time she could she'd be used to them anyways.

She was still just a little bit shocked - but her healers instincts took over in caring for the little white. She tired so easily and got cold so fast that Mercy had wound up taking her to her bed for the night to keep her warm and when they had to walk a air distance - like they had to get to the feast here - Mercy often wound up carrying Aerith. She didn't mind really..she was already plotting to sacrifice some of her own clothing and blankets to make something to help Aerith keep warm and with proper food and careful exercise Mercy was sure the dragonet would get stronger, like someone recovering from an illness..it just took some time is all and they had lots of time didn't they? Of course they did. Aerith had a strong mind and she'd grow to be a good strong healthy dragon to match it.

'Isn't this exciting mine' cooed the dragonet Mercy had hefted into her arms halfway here, being carried certainly didn't stop the white from eying everything that was going on with whirling happy eyes.

"Very exciting" Mercy agreed as they waited in line with the others to be greeted and receive their rank knots.

'I can walk now' The dragon insisted once they'd made it in the door and squirmed about in mercy's arms impatiently until she'd been put on the floor.

"Are you sure?..I don't want you to get tired" Mercy asked, a calculating look in her eyes as she watched Aerith for any signs of fatigue. Aerith of course merely responded with a look and Mercy put up her hands in surrender "Alright, alright..but tell me when you are" She insisted as they went inside to find a seat and listen to the Weyrwomens words. once the speech was over Mercy nodded slightly - he didn't think she'd have any trouble following those rules.

Adi clung to the knot she'd been handed, unable to help admiring it from time to time. She was a dragonrider, a real dragonrider! Granted, she wouldn't actually be riding Mazamath anytime soon, but...she was a dragonrider! Oh, it was so wonderful!

Of course you are a dragonrider, Mine, Mazamath said from beside her, You have been since yesterday. The blue, having expressed curiosity about Adi's ribbon collection while she dressed for the feast, was sporting a ribbon of his own around his neck - a sunny yellow one, since it went so well with blue. His had deemed that pink, while her favorite, was not entirely appropriate for such a handsome male dragon. The girl had twisted blue ribbons into her braid, to match Mazamath.

With the Weyrwoman's speech over with, she sought out her fellow bluerider, who actually wasn't looking very happy. "You alright, R'ne?"

Figuring that Adi might stay put awhile, Mazamath flopped down on the floor. 'Lo, Gemgareth.

R'ne jumped a bit, looking towards the other girl with a glare. Her face softened slightly when she saw that it was just Adi. "Eh, I'm a little on edge. Saw m'da." There was a slight smile forming on her face. "Came up from th'hold t'see the Hatching. Was real proud." She shrugged and looked towards Gemgareth, if only to have something to look at. Real proud. It meant a lot to make him proud. It was something she always had craved.

Hello, Mazamath. How are you? I like your ribbon. Gemgareth looked up on his larger brother, his eyes a content color. It is good yours and Mine are friendly. Mine is not very nice. His tone was sad and piteous, and the dragon looked at his claws with a sigh. Rene gave him a somewhat gentle punch on the shoulder.

"Behave."

One young new rider had taken her time to get ready for this feast. She was very excited to be able to attend so early, but doing an excellent job of keeping it hidden. If anyone had asked, she would have sworn she wouldn't be walking away with a dragon. Much less one so pretty. Her hair had been brushed until it fell in perfect waves and shined in any light. In her hair rested a pretty blue wherhide accented by stitching and gold beads. It had been given to her by her friend Pazzult. She had found the coincidence amusing. Kameth had thought it fitting.

Finally ready Wykla walked briskly toward the Feast. A bronze flit rode proudly on her shoulder. Occasionally Boreal would glance at the blue following His. Her shortness allowed her dragonet to easily keep up. She approached the group of gold and bronze riders by the door solemnly. With her knots securely fastened, her heart swelled with pride. A nod of respect for the Weyrleaders before she went to move on and make room for the next weyrling.

Her eyes caught Inaari's and she gave a smile of thanks. She would understand deep down right? With formalities over, it was now time to scan the hall. Wykla could see Mercy and the two women who'd Impressed to the blues. Try as she might, she couldn't see the other faces she was looking for. The curses of being short, she thought.

Are you hungry yet Kameth?
Not yet Mine. I will let you know. He stood beside His just an inch or so apart. Kameth was perfectly happy to stand there near the edges of the Feast. He could watch everyone without being in the crush.

Adi brushed the glare off easily, since there were no words to back it up, and R'ne started to smile a little. "Oh, that's good!" Why would that put her on edge? Hmm. "Impressing's definitely something to be proud of. Is he still here, or has he gone home already?"

She scanned the many faces nearby, wondering if she could pick him out if he was here. Did he look like R'ne? While she certainly wasn't envious, the subject of parents made Adi very curious. They were, after all, something of a mystery!

Thank you. It is one of Mine's. She has many. Would you like one? Perhaps it would cheer Gemgareth up a little. I am hungry again, but happy.

Not nice? Mazamath tilted his head up to regard the other blue's rider. Mine seems to think she is, but she thinks everyone is nice. Do you not like Yours anymore?

A'ran was having just the slightest bit of trouble properly getting his knot on due to the two chittering flits on his shoulders. Glow, who was normally nowhere to be seen, was naturally present tonight as they were attending a feast (and if there was one thing the green absolutely loved, it was food). "Oi, knock it off," he muttered to the small green who was once again playing with the knot and moving it out of place.

Kaikuth, meanwhile, was entirely amused and made no efforts to hide her giggles. She had absolutely loved the two flits since they first met yesterday, and they her. A'ranmine, there are so many people here! Let us go greet my siblings! Once again she did not wait for his agreement before dashing off toward the first sibling that she saw. Who in this particular case was Aerith. Aerith! Aerith! Hello~! she greeted, plenty enthusiastic and she playfully nudged her smaller sister. Isn't this a great feast? Ah, you've got a spot of food on your back. Psych! she announced, giggling when the other turned to look and feeling proud for her trick. How are you and Yours?

Kaikuth, give them a moment to breath, would you? the teen insisted as he hurried to catch up with his dragon. "Hello, Mercy. Congrats on Aerith," he greeted with a smile. "Erm, sorry if Kaikuth nearly bowled her over. She's a bit energetic." That was a bit of an understatement from what he had seen thus far, but still true enough. Glow flitted off of his shoulder (likely in search of scraps) and Drakell made himself more comfortable with the empty space.

Aerith's attention had been on everything going on about her when she Kaikuth suddenly appeared beside her, the little white wobbled a bit with the nudging but steadied herself against Mercy's leg and warbled a pleasant greeting to her green sister 'Hello Kaikuth! Isn't this exciting?' She started to ask her sister when the green suddenly told her there was food on her back - she hadn't eaten anything yet, she was sure of it but maybe someone had dropped something on her! There were so very many people milling about after all so she craned her neck around to look...which is of course when Kaikuth declared her punchline and Aerith poked her sister in the shoulder with her tiny muzzle. 'Nice trick! Mine is good I got to sleep under her blankets last night, it was so warm'

Mercy had been a bit concerned when the excited green came charging in their direction but Aerith didn't seem to be worried and she steadied herself well enough - she was small sure and weaker then the other dragonets but that wouldn't keep them down. 'Hey" she greeted A'ran as he came up "And thanks, congrats yourself, she's sure going to keep you on your toes alright" She agreed with an easy smile.

Oooh, that is lovely! Kaikuth replied, eyes whirling a very happy blue for her sister. Although secretly a lot of that happiness was that Aerith had also been amused in her joke; she'd have to remember that one for later. I hear we'll be moving in with 'bunkmates' soon! Are you excited to find out which of our siblings we'll be rooming with? Oh, I'll bet we're all going to have so much fun! How could they not after all? They were free and out of their eggs and with Theirs!

"Perhaps just a bit," he agreed with a chuckle. But it was definitely worth it. "Ready for the months ahead?" He had seen time and time again what all Junior Weyrlings went through in the initial stages of training, and he had to admit that it was just a bit daunting. Not to mention the fact that all of this Mystweed business may still end up monopolizing their free time. Still, together with their partners they would all make it through. Somehow.

'I have heard of these bunkmates' Aerith told her in a pleasant tone though she wasn't sure exactly which of her siblings she wanted to end up staying with, some of them would just be exhausting to live with and others well...quite a bit less so, maybe even a bit dull 'Mine is excited to find out' She finally conceded though she herself was a bit more reserved about it.

Mercy glanced at Aerith but the little dragon seemed to be fully engrossed in her sibling and wasn't paying much attention to anything else "Oh gosh..I don't know really last night was... exhausting, I wouldn't trade it for anything" She added quickly not wanting anyone to think she wasn't appreciative for Aerith "But theres just so much to get used to and learn" and Aerith of course being as tiny as she was needed far more attention and care then some of the other Dragonets.

We must greet my siblings, Mine, I want to make sure they are all doing well, Rayenth insisted, practically bouncing toward the Feast. Na'uel hurried to keep up with her, reaching out a hand to rest lightly on her neck, slowing her progress slightly. The little Crimson had been perfectly content to curl up and sleep after she'd been properly fed post-Hatching, and had been very calm throughout the first day (he'd been learning as much as he could as quickly as he could about how to keep her healthy), but apparently the promise of socializing had stripped the calm away. I will rest after we have checked on my siblings and I have talked to my sisters, she reassured, though she did slow down and press against his legs, letting Na'uel support her somewhat. Everything will be fine, you will see.

"Alright, but don't overdo it so soon. If you tire yourself out, we'll have to leave, so that you can rest." The gentle warning was dismissed almost immediately by the vibrant dragonet, because she knew she wouldn't overdo things. She glanced around when they got inside, zeroing in on the little White and playful Green immediately. She would check on her brothers soon, but there were sisters to chat with, and she wanted to make sure her little White sib was doing well. Aerith was even smaller than her, after all, and needed looking-after. She toddled through the crowd with confidence, Na'uel right behind her (fidgeting with the new knot, and trying to figure out how to make it sit right), and stopped just short of her sisters.

Hello, Aerith! Hello, Kaikuth! Are you two having fun? Are you doing well? How are Yours? Have you had a good day? She gave an affectionate croon as she unleashed her torrent of questions, eyes whirling a cheerful blue-green.

Na'uel stood awkwardly behind her, a nervous-eager smile in place. "Hello," he offered quietly, not really wanting to intrude on the conversation they were already having, but also not really wanting to just stand there like a stump, either. He didn't know either of them (didn't really know anyone yet, he'd only been Searched just before the Hatching and hadn't had the chance to make friends) but since Rayenth seemed inclined to fuss over her sibs, he figured he'd best get to know them as soon as he could anyway.

Mercy glanced up as another dragon - the little crimson from the buried egg - came bounding over to, well she could only assume to speak with Aerith and Kaikuth. As she expected the crimson's rider wasn't far behind and seemed a bit shy as he offered a quiet hello.

Well...Mercy didn't meet strangers - not really, or at least not for very long and she beamed a bright welcoming smile "Hey, I don't think I got chance to meet you before the hatching, but I'm Mercy and this is" And she paused and blinked at the guy she'd been talking to earlier "Actually..it occurs to me I don't know what to call you now either" She admitted with a laugh "Everyone went and shortened their names on me!' She commented with a fake sigh of annoyance. Mercy had thought about it long and hard and had yet to decide if she'd keep her name - I mean it was pretty short already, and all the shorter version's she'd tried sounded funny - or not. At least being a girl she had a choice in the matter.

"Greetings Rayenth" Aerith warbled as the crimson came over and inquired after things "It is all very exciting, mine is well, she has stopped being afraid she'll hurt me every time she touches me" Aerith told the crimson with what could only be considered a sigh of relief..i mean really she was small sure but he wasn't going to break that easily..she was sure of it - though she would be careful to please hers. "Kaikuth and I were speaking about getting bunkmates!"

Two different riders entered the dining hall, both looking for the same person. First was Ralae, green wingrider and lately messenger to the wing leaders and whomever needed her. Her green, Zabreth, was up at the heights resting. If Ralae had looked like she lost a little bit of weight and seemed nervous, then only she and Zabreth knew the answer to that riddle. But for now, she had a friend to congratulate.

And there she was!

"Wykla! You did it! You Impressed! I am so proud of you!" The teen came running and pulled to a stop. Ralae herself had on a dark green long sleeved shirt and dark brown pants, not in the mood for being dressed up prettily. But she did admire Wykla and her blue most graciously. "And to such a handsome fellow!"

`````````````````````````````````````
Pazzult, or P'zul as he and Nnith had decided upon together, entered the hall. In honor of his Impression, he had pulled out a light brown tunic he had been working on as well as a pair of dark brown pants. He had taken some leather straps he had dyed green and twisted them around his wrists.
After accepting his first set of rider's knots, he gave both weyrleaders his custom grin and headed into the melee. "Look at all this commotion, just for us!
Just for us? Me, how lovely. I shall enjoy the finest pieces of meat and then a nice nap. Nnith replied. She followed behind, looking dainty and pleased with everything she saw.
"Well, not just us. But I can get you everything you want, how does that sound?" Before P'zul could continue, he noticed Wykla. Moving quickly, causing Nnith to protest, he approached his friend. "Wykla! Congrats on Impressing. We both did it, eh? I guess I will have to hold off on Weaverhall for a little bit and stick around here."
He noticed his headband in her hair and that her hair was brushed to shiningness and for some reason that made him blush. "Uh, this is Nnith. Who is your blue?"
She had been quietly watching. Other new riders were entering, getting their knots, then forming little groups to chat. Blues, greens, crimson and white, mingled. A familiar voice reached her and Wykla turned toward it.
"Ralae!" The girl blushed lightly. "Yeah, he was a complete surprise. Thanks. How is Zabreth doing?" She gave Ralae a grin. "You're right, but I just hope he grows into his wings." Her voice held a teasing note for her dragon.
Beside them, Kameth gave a snort in acknowledgement of His' teasing. You will see Wyklamine. We will fly very high.
"Hey Ralae. If you don't mine me asking. I know you didn't shorten your name, do you think I should shorten mine? I couldn't come up with anything that didn't sound bad or funny. Plus its so short already." She looked at the older girl. If anyone could help her it would be Ralae.
Someone else she knew was coming over. "Pazzult! Erm.... I mean. How did you shorten you're name? Congrats on you're green as well. It's a pleasure to meet you Nnith." She looked at the green as she caught up. "I would think so! I'm sure you could still practice here, if you wanted."
When she saw him blush it caused her to giggle a little. "This is Kameth."
Boreal sat on his girl's shoulder and peered around at the people and dragons. They were making His happy. His eyes whirled a green.
