"Dion! Help me with this setup!" David hollered across backstage, opening the other's guitar case. "DAKOTA!"
The man stood, and looked around. "Great, where did that kid go? Dakota!"

While looking around for the youngest member of the band, David happened to spot the pile of mail laying on the table in the middle of backstage - ready for the band to read once they'd finished this set. Whatever, it could be explored later. "DAKOTA!"

The nineteen year old moved out from behind a backdrop, rubbing his eyes in an attempt to get sleep out of them. "Whaaa?" he said sleepily. "Dion and I were sleeping on the couch... We don't go on for another two hours..."

David shrugged. "It's good to be prepared early. You need to help me get your guitar out of the case. With all the straps on the thing, I'm afraid I'm going to break it. And Dion needs to get HIS out of the damn van. Darin's already set up his drums."

With that, the lead-singer walked off, apparently having said all he needed to say. Dakota was left to chuckle a bit as he walked toward the mail, and picked up a particularly fancy-looking envelope. It was addressed to him... and Dion?

"... Hey.. what do you suppose this means?" the young one asked, headed back into the 'greenroom' type area, and sitting on the couch where the other still slumbered, jabbing him lightly in the ribs. "Wake up - I want your opinion."

Darin was going at it on his drums again. He seriously hated when those two got so lazy they actually slept before the gig. That was the stupiest thing to do, in the short one's opinion. At twenty-three years of age, the blond drummer was the shortest member in D4. And everyone knew he covered it up with tattoos, piercings and booze. Currently, he had the beer in his system, but he wasn't drunk.

No, it helped him focus! At least that's what he told the others.

Dion had gotten off the drugs the day Dakota woke up from his coma. He promised he'd give it up if the kid ever woke up, and that's what he was doing. Weed every now and then, with Dakota, didn't hurt, though. The black man firmly believed it was not the gateway drug everyone thought it to be. In fact, he was living proof to that.

He had been so warm and comfortable curled up behind the kid. He'd had one of his big arms around the kid's middle, the other was under Dakota's head, letting him use it as a pillow. That was what he thought, anyway, until he felt that jab to his ribs.

White contacted eyes opened and he hissed, rubbing the spot. "Damn sharp elbows," he mumbled, sitting up and rubbing his face. "The hell do you need my opinion on." Nope, not a morning person.

Dakota scooted a bit, and flopped over so that he was curled up next to Dion again as he opened the letter. Reading it quietly, he blinked at the contents, and re-read it.

"... Dion? According to this, we're fathers."

That sort of thing even seemed to shock the young man who was READING the letter, causing him to drop his hands, still holding it.

"... We're dads?"

He handed the letter over numbly, eyes closed as he tried to calm himself down. Kids? He'd never had kids... What a thing to read before a gig! ... And he had been 'chosen' - he and Dion. The letter made it seem as though they were... important.

Dion accepted when the smaller came and curled back against him. It silently pleased the black man that Dakota would willingly want to be against him like this. A year ago, Dion didn't want anything to do with anyone in the band. Don't get him wrong, he loved them all, but he didn't want to get physical with any of them. But after that accident... Well, his take on life changed.

He wrapped an arm around Dakota's middle as the younger read, so tempted to go back to sleep. They had a couple hours. Still. Until those words came out of that mouth.

Dion paused and blinked, staring up at the younger with a curious look. "...What are you talking about?" He didn't sign up to be a dad. "Wait.. you're a guy. How the hell are you pregnant?" He hadn't even had sex with Dakota! Not yet, anyway.

Then he took the letter from the other and read it. Well, skimmed it. "....Kids, really?" He didn't exactly care for kids. They weren't supposed to listen to the kind of music D4 played, and there was no room for a kid with their traveling and their gigs. "..For ******** real?"

"For real." He took back the letter again, scanned it... "Yeah. For real."

After which, he curled with his back against Dion's chest, and took one of the older man's arms to wrap it around himself like a blanket. Comfortable move to make him feel a little less freaked.

"ASAP means after the show we've got to go see the kids. I don't mind being a dad, but..."

He rolled over to face Dion. Both eyes showed concern, even though only one could see properly. "I'm nervous. It's alright to be nervous... right? I mean, it's not stupid to be nervous.... is it?"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 06, 2010 1:15 pm

Dion watched the smaller as he freaked out. He couldn't physically freak out like that, but mentally he was screaming and cursing. How the hell could he be a father now? He and Dakota had just gotten so comfortable with each other, and he was thinking about the next level when all of a sudden, they're now fathers and have to go pick up their kids? Didn't they skip a few decades or something?

You're old already... You should be fine with this. Oh, shut up stupid thoughts. Just because he was twenty-eight next month didn't mean he was old. He was just more experienced. Right?

"...Yeah, its normal to freak out." His voice was shaking slightly. If it had been anyone but a band mate, they'd think he was fine. But no. It was Dakota and surly the boy would hear it and question him about it.

"You're nervous too." Dakota said, after realizing it. "And you don't know what this is, any more than I do. At least that makes me feel like I'm not batshit insane."

He buried his head to the side of Dion's neck, and closed his eyes. "I should take my pills before I forget... Last thing I want to do is have a fit on stage... When's the last time I had a seizure on stage, Dion? I don't really remember it all that well..."

Reaching to the other side of the couch, he snatched up his pill bottle, and a water-bottle from beside him, downing two of the pills before reaching for the other medication bottle, and downing one of those as well.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 06, 2010 1:24 pm

Well, at least it wasn't a question. He watched the small boy take his meds like he did every day and then pushed a hand through his dreads. The last time Dakota had a fit on stage? Dion was scared shitless. It wasn't the first time it had happened, but it was more than small.

"Four months... You were in a solo... Too many cameras went off in your face, you were going to take your pills after for some reason. Don't remember why. But... God..." He shook visibly at the memory and shook his head. He didn't want to remember the rest of it. The poor boy seizing right there on stage, looking even smaller than he did when he'd pulled him from the wreckage in the van.

That had been his fault. And the seizure on stage. At least, Dion blamed himself for both. He should have told Dakota to take his meds, he should have been paying more attention to the road. Dion just failed all around when it came to protecting the boy.

"Heh.. that long ago. I must be better at taking my meds than I think I am."

He snuggled into the man again, and sighed, reaching out to wrap his arms around him, needing the closeness and comfort while the pills took effect. They sometimes caused him to be dizzy for a while after he took them, and bracing for that usually required lying down with something soft to cuddle. ... That something to cuddle just so happened to be Dion right at the moment.

"Do you think I'll make a good dad?" he asked quietly. "I didn't have much experience with a father.. You know, how they left me and all. I don't know the FIRST thing about parenting..."
PostPosted: Mon Dec 06, 2010 1:42 pm

Dion squeezed him tight and drew the other closer to him, sighing softly and nosed the back of his neck. He loved how the other needed him like this. At least he could get this right. This one thing. He shifted, laying back down comfortably and nodded. "You know the first thing about it. ...Don't do what your parents did... That'll make you a good parent."

Besides, Dion could pick up some parenting books or something along the way. "....Just close your eyes, babe..." the first pet name in their relationship. His hands stroked down Dakota's back, under his shirt, even.

Darin happened to walk in then and rolled his eyes. "Took his meds, then?" Of course. That's the only way he'd ever seen the two touching. Was because of the medication.

Dakota took a deep, slow breath. His head, right on cue, started to spin, and his fingers turned into clutching claws digging right into Dion's shoulder. He whispered into his ear. "It's bad this time. But you know what, Dion? ... I actually want a kid... "

He nuzzled him quietly. "Am I stupid for wanting one? A kid? Someone to care for and dote on and raise? I.... sound stupid saying it even."
PostPosted: Mon Dec 06, 2010 2:02 pm

The black man glared at Darin over Dakota's shoulder and he hugged the boy closer. "Shut up, Darin." Was all the blond man got before he turned back to Dakota. It wasn't weird he wanted one, no. He pressed his lips to the other's forehead as he spoke. "It doesn't make you weird or anything. Every guy wants one eventually," at least to his knowledge.

Darin spoke up and howled with laughter. "You can't take care of yourself much less a kid! Unless the four of us is goin' to be raisin' it. What, you get a girl knocked up one night?" He laughed at that idea, too before going to get David.

"Hey, David! Dakota wants a kid!"

David stood up from the crouched position where he was re-stringing one of Dion's guitars, since the man wasn't doing it himself.

"Darin, don't be an a**." he grumbled, "If Dakota wants a kid, he'll have a kid. Whenever the opportunity knocks. YOU need to get your s**t together, and find your 'sticks. I couldn't find them in the back, and I'm SURE AS HELL not going through your bed. Last time I got bit by a ******** snake."

Dakota murmured something about Darin having more than one snake that bites... but he kept it quiet enough that the drummer likely didn't hear him unless he had stellar ears just now.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 06, 2010 2:44 pm

No such luck on the stellar ears part. In fact, he only heard what he wanted too. "The sticks are in Dakota's guitar case! Put them there last week when I used them to open a soda." Don't ask how that one worked, but it was messy and Darin didn't want his sticks getting sticky.

Promptly side tracked the drummer moved around back and grabbed Dakota's case, opening it and grabbing the sticks that were under the guitar. "SEE? They're fine!" He moved back around to the front of the place to talk to David again, chuckling. "I mean... don't go in my bed, you know I have a pet snake. Makes you an idiot."

Dion, on the other hand, growled low in his throat and hugged the boy tighter to him. Darin was an a*****e who needed to get laid and maybe Daivd could help him out in that department.

"Darin, seriously. Stop being a d**k. You can be a d**k AFTER the gig. Don't be stupid." David snorted a bit, and snapped shut his mic-case, after setting up the instrument and calibrating it. "You and I need to talk after this gig. I have a few things to have out with you."

Dakota sighed as the dizzy feeling passed, his fingers relaxing their grip as he sank into the peaceful numbness that came after. "As soon as this wears off... it'll be time for the show. Are we doing 'Rain and Roses' tonight? Like I said I wanted to? I need a good solo - haven't had one in a while."

He went quiet for a bit, and blushed hard. "After the gig, we... go get our kids...."
