I've been wondering, has anyone's band gotten gifts? Like,f rom the school, such as a hangout spot or something?
Our school gave us two tables a few years ago, right outside the band room. They were awesome, because they gave us a place to sit before and after rehearsal. It was really convenient for us. But then they took away the first one and put it by the bathrooms on the sports fields(I think this one was the work of the football team). Then they moved the second one inside the school gates(They were outside the school gates, cause those are only open during school hours or on competition days, and only after the custodians or bd get there). That does us no good, because again, its ehind the gates,w here we cant get to it. So now we have nowhere to sit...just emmpty dirt outside the bandroom door...

I don't think we've gotten much, other than our band room. They're building an outdoor theater for the Arts Academy thing we have, but it's terribly small and will be lucky if it fits 100 people. I don't understand its purpose nor its placement, especially considering we have two actual THEATERS in our school district, and one opened up in 2008 and has AMAZING acoustics (and a drama stage as well).
But for now, the theater's been nothing but a huge inconvenience. crying construction is blocking off the entrance everyone uses to get in the band room from the parking lot or from class, and during band camp, there was no entrance to the band room because they ripped out the cement by the door! D: The theater's brick wall is covering two of the four big windows, so it's super dark in the band room now too... Erg.
I hate that theater so much.

That sounds a lot like our second gym. They ahd just started building it my freshman year, and it was horribly inconvenient for the band. It blocked off two entrances for the practice fields, leaving 2 that were nauseatingly far from the band room. One entrance was literally across the school, the other was on the other side of the cafeteria from that. Nobody even knows why they put it in. Our old gym was perfectly fine, and this new gym is used FOR PRACTICE. Not games. It only has a small set of stands. Its used for flipping basketball and volleyball practice. And only the girls teams use it for even that. Meanwhile, we have desks falling apart, classrooms with not enough desks, no librarian(we have a now unused library), and an annoying lack fot eachers(including a bd). The following year they rebuilt the lower science hall, another huge inconvenience, but that one at least made sense. But they spent so much on the gym, they didnt have the money to get new desks for these nice classrooms. Oye.
I did remember another gift to use though. Our school actually gave us money for new sousas. Ours were about...I think the oldest was around 50. They were ugly and didn't work properly, even with repairs. Noww, we have really pretty silver ones.

Don't you just love band logical school funding? x__x At least they gave you Sousas!
(Band Logic: The opposite of logic, coined by my angry clarinet player friend to explain band things that didn't make sense.)
