Gargantuan was hungry. This was nothing new and nothing startling, but the outcome was the same; the swamp beast was encouraged to leave his dorm and roam the school grounds in search of sustenance. It was the smells of freshly turned soil and the subtler undertones of decay that first drew the big monster to the graveyard, and Gargantuan stood awkwardly on the outskirts for a moment, a thick finger pressed uncertainly to his lower lip as though he was wondering if he dared venture in. His much larger size outside tended to hinder rather than help him when it came to sneaking around, and with a slow waggle of his ear-fins, the beast lumbered slowly onto the grounds.

The fresh soil felt good under his bare feet, and after a moment of merely wiggling his toes in the dirt with a goofy little smile on his face, Gargantuan promptly plopped himself down in the dirt and enthusiastically began to paw at it with his big hands. There were all sorts of goodies in the dirt! Vegetables and wormies and weird rocks sometimes!

He was oblivious to the fact that this was technically the place right Undead dorm room, and that a certain undead puppy he owed more apologies to might have wandered out at any moment and saw him mucking around in the mud. With a rough sound of glee, Gargantuan managed to locate a particularly fat maggot, and didn't hesitate to snap it up. So squishy and good!

After having successfully personalizing his new dorm room as much as his meager possessions allowed, Christof had stepped out into the evening to once again explore his new home. He had seen a graveyard on the way into the Undead dorms on his way there with Tsetsilia, but only now in the cover of darkness did he feel comfortable to look around. With Scruff locked up and his shovel over his shoulder, he ventured between the graves, keeping a sharp eye for anyone who might catch him. The thrill of the hunt, that's what he loved. It made his heart race and he felt more alive than ever here doing what he shouldn't be doing. There was no point to be digging, it was true... who needed it? He knew no doctors or mad scientists that could use them- yet- but even so, this felt natural.

How many times had he done this for his Master? There was no harm in just... seeing what lay here. Maybe it was for show, maybe it held old students, maybe something more.... you never knew what you could find in a grave, locked away like a time capsule.

By the time he heard the noises of the great scaled monster he was almost on top of him, making a startled noise in the back of his throat before dodging behind a gravestone. Unfortunately, he moved too quickly, the shovel smashing against stone with a terrible CLANG that resonated through the darkness with such force it made him wince.

Munch munch munch. These were almost as good as frogs, so buttery and numerous! G was happily stuffing another handful into his jaws when the sudden bash of steel on stone made the big beast jump, maggots and dirt flying even as he immediately hunkered down in the mud like a kicked puppy. Oh, oh no! There was someone there and they had seen G being bad! Had the swamp beast eyes, they would have been wide and probably teary, and as it was, it looked a little pathetic with the monster wallowing fearfully in the dirt.

"G sorry!" Came the first lamenting wail, and his fins were pressed flat against his slimy skin. "G bad! Don't tell on G, G no wanna go to bathroom!" Now it was more of a moaned plea, and those thick shoulders had hunched all the way up to the sides of his head, and a few quivers shook his broad body.

What could he do?! He had been bad but he didn't want to go back to detention and back to that bathroom ever again. A moment of inspiration hit him, and the beast brightened, clumsily grabbing at a few slightly soggy maggots to eagerly thrust them in the direction of the loud sound. It didn't quite occur to him that maybe he was all alone after all. "Can take these! G will share!" Food was always a good way to make friends!

From behind the gravestone, the scarfed and stitched blonde head peaked out at the wailing monster. Oh for goodness sake that was NOT how monsters were supposed to behave! At least it seemed he wasn't about to be eaten or dragged to an office. Gingerly, the hunchback stepped out from his cover, scowling at the squirming worms with disgust. This.... "G" certainly LOOKED threatening... he could rip Christof limb from limb if he so choose by the looks of him, but seeing the thing covered in mud and tears was ridiculous. He snorted through his nose, shaking his head as he glanced around frantically, trying to see if his moaning had alerted anyone else. He wove a hand urgently before putting a finger in front of where his mouth hid behind his scarf, glowering at the beast. If he kept this up they BOTH would be in trouble.... and what on EARTH was he going on about not wanting to go to the bathroom? EVERYONE needed to go to the bathroom occasionally. Except Ghosts. And Vampires as far as he knew, but used up blood had to go SOMEWHERE....

Oh! Having been hushed several times in his life, Gargantuan understood what... well, what was he? Whoever his new found friend was, he was odd looking! Lumpy and tiny and... "Patchy." He rumbled before he could stop himself, ear fins wilting guilty before he pointedly popped the worms into his mouth and chewed. It was a way to keep himself quiet!

The sense of impending doom was beginning to fade a little, and natural curiosity took its place. "G sorry." He said again after swallowing loudly, his shoulders still hunched. "Scary sound." There was a few emphatic nods, but then the beast brightened. "Come here for food too?" That was what the shovel was for, wasn't it? That was smart! Though G didn't think he knew how to use a shovel...

Christof shook his head, lifting the shovel again to try to hide it behind his hunch. Brows knit, he glanced around as though thinking of an explanation. This monster didn't seem smart enough to lie, let alone keep a secret... He sighed. Well, there was no harm in *trying* at least.... He lifted a hand to his face, pointing to his eyes with two fingers before motioning to the graveyard as though that would explain it. Obviously the creature came here to feed. Repulsion was soon replaced by curiosity. He had met a few monsters over the years, but never one like this G.

Gargantuan tried to pay attention, really! When Patchy pointed to his face and then to the graveyard, the monster looked a little bewildered, glancing around for a moment before he tilted his head this way and that. "Lookin'?" He ventured uncertainly, the tip of his tail offering a thoughtful twitch or two. "G got no eyes, so..." He brightened as a thought occurred to him, and unconsciously got to his full, towering height. "If Patchy need help, G can help! G likes diggin'..."

Christof glowered. How could he be anymore clear that he was just looking around? Well, if the monster wanted to help, he wouldn't say no to company... so long as he didn't tell anyone what they were up to. He was just curious, after all, and intended to put things back once he had taken a look. With a sigh through his nose, Christof glanced to the headstones, reading them carefully. Finally he spotted a particularly old one with nice packed dirt. The name was long and partially obscured- often a good sign when you wanted to see what someone was buried with. The clearer the headstone, the better for fresh corpses, but today that wasn't what was on the menu. He straightened (as much as the hunchback could straighten) and waved to the beast to come over before offering him the shovel.

Thankfully (or not), Gargantuan didn't seem to notice the other's displeasure, and did his best to stand patiently while Patchy took a peek at the weird stone things. There was a slight urge to chew on one of his fingers, but before he could put the thought into motion, he was being waved over! Oh, hooray! Gargantuan lumbered closer eagerly, staring at the shovel as though he was being offered some sort of present before eagerly taking it into his hands. This must have been what it felt like to play guitar in the band!

Well, he wouldn't hit Patchy with it, because that would be mean, but he wanted to at least try it out once.

"Digga dig." Came the cheerful rumble, and the monster was happy to get to work. His hands didn't hurt from having to paw through rocks and things, and it wouldn't be long before impressive chunks of earth were flying with the occasional pause whenever G found something particularly delicious.

Then he hit something that sort of went squish.

"Oh." The swamp beast hesitantly paused, peering into the hole as though confused. Somehow, he hadn't related graves with bodies quite yet, so...

For a while as G dug, the hunchback relished in the feeling of having someone aid HIM in one of his tasks for once... it wasn't quite as satisfying as doing it himself, but even so it was a strange change. Once the monster stopped, Christof hurried to the edge of the hole to peer in, reaching to try to take the shovel back from the sea beast before he did any more damage to their find. Well, G wasn't very surgical in his methods, and seemed to have mistaken the top of the casket for more earth....

He motioned for the beast to move to the side as he expertly set to work widening the hole enough to properly lift the lid without shattering it further.

Whoops. G relinquished the shovel readily when it was requested, and shuffled out of the way so that Patchy could better... well, he still didn't know what they were doing, but it was sort of fun! The beast thrummed a curious note in his chest, very much like a curious child as he paced about the edge of the grave, fingers and tail twitching. What was in the box? More food?

"Surpriiiiiiise." He droned to himself, clearly eager for whatever could be inside. Maybe it would be a bunch of froggies!
PostPosted: Sat Dec 04, 2010 11:08 am

Christof hefted the heavy lid out of the deep hole with practiced ease, reveling no tasty frogs but an ancient corpse, bustling with ancient insides squirming with fat, well fed maggots. The squish G had made had been from the shovel passing into the corpse's stomach, but it wasn't the glistening stinking insides that got the patchwork's attention. He examined the bones, the teeth, looking over skeletal fingers for claws and pulled back the skull to examine sharp teeth. AH! A gold filling glinted in the moonlight and Christof pulled out his small pocketknife to try to pry one free. Enough of these and he could trade 'em in for pumpkin seeds in town with any luck and possibly buy a new jacket. Amongst the rags of tattered rotting clothes he found a small silver tie-pin with a little pearl embedded in the end. It wasn't much but at least it made the dig worth it. The corpse itself was only useful if bones were ever needed. He made a mental note.

...Oh.

Gargantuan's shoulders were hunched again as he stared at the corpse, not afraid or disturbed so much as he was concerned. Had they woken that person up? They looked like they had lots of tasties, but even the monster had enough sense to be somewhat polite. Patchy had a sharp thing, and Gargantuan unconsciously licked his own teeth as the other set to work on prying what looked like a tooth out. It seemed painful.

"Shiny." He muttered, and reached out with a thick finger to curiously poke at one sunken cheek. It probably would have served him right if he'd been bit. "Patchy need new teefs?" He wanted to know, sidling a bit closer to the Undead and attempting to catch a glimpse of his mouth. It make sense then, wouldn't it?
PostPosted: Sat Dec 04, 2010 11:31 am

The tooth popped loose, although that hadn't been Christof's intention, it had just been rotted enough to feel no more need to stay huddled with it's fellows in the corpse's jaws. He'd have to pry the gold off later, but hey, maybe the tooth being attached still would fetch a higher price? One never knew. Scientists and alchemists loved gold, it had fantastic electrical conductive properties after all. What good would it do down here in a hole? He shook his head as he held the tooth and the pin up to G to show his prizes victoriously, only to find the giant monster leaning in close. His flesh-colored bits of skin flushed as he shook his head, and he instinctively pulled his scarf up more before sliding out of the grave to try to push the lid back down into the hole again. The stench was terrible, but he was used to this sort of thing. The smell of formaldehyde reminded him of home.

The gold and the strange, pearly pin sort of thing made Gargantuan brighten, even if he didn't necessarily understand what Patchy needed them for. "Hooray!" He rumbled, and the funny colors his new friend turned were enough to please him, affectionately (and gently) bumping his head against Patchy before he did what he could to help thump the lid back onto the box. It did smell pretty bad, but he'd eaten worse, though the monster did grumble and cough to himself occasionally.

"More treasure huntin'?" He wanted to know, using a hand to idly begin to push some clumps of dirt back in the hole. It felt sort of fun, being sneaky!
