These were exciting times for the pride. The Shrinekeepers were multiplying, creatures were coming to visit and honor the gods, litters were being born, and everyone was hard at work planning new shrines, making the stone markers for them, and setting them up.

Unfortunately for the shifters, there were still only two that had proven themselves strong enough to actually move the great shrine stones: Katashi, a leopard, and Ishekhesi, a lion with a damaged voice. Between the two of them, they had erected all of the shrines, piece by piece.

Ishekhesi was pleased to find that it would be another few days before the carvers had the next shrine stones ready to be dragged into place and set up. His muscles were achingly sore from setting up the Jungle shrine, and he was ready for a rest.

He joined his fellow shifter on a rocky hill that looked over most of the pridal lands, and settled down on the sun warmed rock.

"Hello, Katashi. Are you looking forward to our rest?"

Stretching out one hind leg, the large leopard shifted a little on the rock he was sprawled over on his belly. The next few days would be a welcome break from work and he was planning on taking full advantage of the chance to rest and relax. It had been day after day of hard labour, straining with rocks twice or three times his own size alongside the pride's only other shifter, Ishekhesi. Even with both of them working together, sometimes it took all day to move the particularly large stones. By the end of the last stint of shrine building, Katashi had rubbed all the fur off his shoulders and neck from shoving the stones about on the hillside. He idly wondered if they would be blessed with blood once finished, since several of them had already been smeared with his own as the stones grazed the raw patches on his shoulders.

These next few days of rest would be taken up with relaxing, and crafting. Not that Kata was much good at either activity, but he had several days to work and was slowly managing to fashion a strap & brace system whose design he had been working on during the nights when his muscles were too sore to let him sleep. Now the contraption sat before him in pieces, the leopard's head bent as he chewed on one of the scraps of leather, stretching it into the desired length.

Hearing the solid pawsteps of his colleague, Katashi lifted his head and stretched again, pleased that the soreness in his joints had started to ease up. Nodding to Ishekhesi as the male settled own beside him he didn't smile, that was not his way, instead he turned to gaze out across the pride's valley, relaxing in the other shifter's company.

"Greetings Ishekhesi." He replied, turning back to the lion beside him. "I am.... it will allow the wounds to heal before more stones are ready." Pausing to lick a sore patch on his pawpad, he added in a polite tone. "And you?"

"I am. And I am looking forward to let my mane regrow for a few days."
Ishekhesi had more protection then the leopard from the rocks, especially on the shoulders. But every stone took a chunk of his mane, and, although not especially vain, Ishekhesi didn't like how raggedy he looked with patches of his mane missing.

"I see your harness is coming along well. And we seem to be collecting a young fan club. Have you met any of them?"

Startled emerald eyes looked over at the lion as he delivered this latest bit of news. "A fan club?" Blinking with obvious incredulity, the leopard tilted his head to the side a little. "Why? But no... I have not seen them..." In truth, they could have been following the chocolate-coloured leopard around for weeks and it wasn't guaranteed that he would have noticed. A quiet and contemplative male, Katashi was a creature wholly absorbed in his work, be it his shifter duties during the day, or his personal contemplations in the evening. And the strap that lay across his paws currently took up what little time he had left at night.

Glancing down at the leather straps, he nodded slowly. "I hope to be done before the next stones are ready, I want to test out the leverage system soon as well, but this has to be done first." Looking back at Ishekhesi he eyed the bald patches in the lion's mane. "I could make one for you if you wanted.. once this has been tested.

Shocked by the leopard's generosity, Ishekhesi nevertheless accepted immediately.
"That would be wonderful. The big rocks tend to take a lot out of my mane."

He glanced around to see if any of the aforementioned fanclub were skulking around. The little female would probably just trot right up and talk to him, if she was around, but Jatayu was much sneakier.

"There are two cubs that desperately want to be shifters, and have attatched themselves to me in order to learn how to be shifters. I'm pleased by their enthusiasm, but they are awfully small. I'm nervous that they will end up hurting themselves with the rocks."

Nodding, he studied the large lion for a long moment, possibly judging size for the straps once his own had been finished. He had some spare leather and the second attempt shouldn't take as long, now he had worked out the fastest method of shaping the scraps of hide.

Placing a paw over the straps at his feet to hold them in place, he glanced round, following Ishekhesi's gaze, though he didn't see anyone beside themselves. "Well.. if anyone is qualified to train them as shifters, its you Ishekhesi. I'm sure they will be fine, they can't move anything thats too heavy for them. So long as they don't get under your stones, they will be safe enough."

"You're right, of course, they just make me nervous. I've never been around cubs very much. Do you need any help with the straps?"

He felt awkward just sitting there while Katashi was still working hard - but if the leopard did not need his help, Ishekhesi would be content to settle down and nap for a while in the sun. There would be enough work for them both in a few days.

Katashi gave his lion friend a sedate reassuring smile. "Then I think you should do it, no reason you can't get experience while you train them, right?" He himself didn't mind cubs, though they tended to be a bit beyond his understanding sometimes. he nevertheless thought them cute and adorably innocent, and they were far more honest than adults.

Dropping his muzzle to the leather again he paused, the strap dangling from between his fangs. "I would.. but I'm not even sure what I am doing myself." He gave the other male a slightly apologetic smile. He spoke the truth, for his leather-work was very experimental and he was learning all the while as his mistakes were still outweighing his successes.. as was clear from the pile of scraps in the entrance to his den further along the slope.

"I think that would be for the best. That way they can't hurt themselves trying themselves anyway."

Ishekhesi settled down to nap near the leopard. Silence was a welcome thing, now, and he would take advantage of it while he could. He might even dream up the rest of the tune he was working on. Katashi was a very calming presence, and Ishekhesi had faith that even if his cub collection came looking for him, Katashi's presence would keep them quiet.

Katashi chuckled softly. "I will always be around if you need help." He offered in a reassuring voice, though he didn't know how he would help, he would never turn his friend down if the big lion asked it of him. And surely together they could handle a bunch of tiny cubs...

Smiling to himself as Ishekhesi settled down for his nap, the brown leopard resumed his chewing and stretching, slowly and carefully working the leather in his mouth into the shape he needed. One green eye on the lookout for the tell-tale balls of fluff that were Ishekhesi's eager young entourage.
