General Information
Full Name: Maravalia Anira Cresen Nicknames: Mara, Valia, Valia-dear, Anira Gender: Female Age: 22 Faction: Luminous Occupation: Maravalia's father owns a very successful business dealing in fashion and fabrics. Practically everyone who's anyone knows the name Cresen. Maravalia knows a lot about the business and will one day run it, but until then she tends to favor the more political side of Ruse.
Hair: Dark strawberry blond, long and wavy, curls into ringlets easily. Eyes: A bright and fiery orange color that sometimes appears gold. Skin: Yellow in tone, pale and creamy. Lips are naturally a dark pink and her cheeks have a light blush color to them. Despite this, she still uses make-up and beauty spells. Distinguishing Characteristics: Maravalia is a tall individual, roughly 5'8 in height, and she uses that height to her advantage. It makes it easy for her to look down on others, even without trying, and it raises her up unconsciously in other people's minds. She is not a curvy individual, but she does have some, and it's noticeable. She tries to use her looks to her advantage, and, paired with the skills she learned as a child, she can be a formidable opponent. Her bright orange eyes are unique to her family, and they flash and show emotion more often then her face, which tends to lie. Maravalia prides herself in her appearance and takes many measures to ensure everything is in order.
Personal Information
Magical Abilities Maravalia knows the simplest of spells and a few common charms, mostly those used in her daily life, but as she never studied magic and it's properties, even these do not come easily. Because she thinks those who known little to no magic are lowly, she tries to show off her minimal knowledge. Due to the fact she is not very good at applied magic, she has studied to become good at making potions and other mixtures, partly in an attempt to keep herself out of the class boundaries she has laid for herself, partly because she finds it easier than applied magics.
Nonmagical Talents As a young girl, Maravalia attended a boarding school which taught girls to become proper young ladies. There, she studied reading and writing, and can now write quite beautifully because of it, how to speak well, behave properly, and host various get togethers. She also learned to sew and embroider, however she was never very good and nothing she made ever turned out right. Maravalia can read sheet music, play the piano and violin fairly well, and sing, however her voice is not lovely to behold, and she does not sing often.
Personality Maravalia is not the nicest person, this stems from a combined number of things from her history, a large part of it from her want to be like her mother. She is cunning and sly, and has a sharp mind, which she uses to her advantage. Maravalia believes in being organized, everything has a place and belong there, and that includes people. She does not like poor people, and looks down on them as well as anyone below her in station. Maravalia is haughty, conceited, and vain.
History When Maravalia's father, Daereth, married her mother, Nelana, they were very much in love, but it is not always true that time makes the heart grow fonder, and their love dwindled. Not one for divorce, they stuck together, but it did not stop her father's eyes from wandering, and they soon fell upon a newlywed baker girl. After a while, she realized she was pregnant, and, unsure of who the father was, realized there was a chance it could be Daereth's. Worried of what the child would look like, she gave birth at Daereth's home, telling her husband she was with her parents. When she gazed upon the child, she knew there would never be any way she could convince her husband it was theirs, and asked Daereth to keep the baby, who looked nothing like the baker or her husband. Wanting the young wife to live a full life, he took the child and told her to tell her husband that the baby had died. His wife agreed to keeping the child on the condition she was able to do whatever she pleased with it and that Daereth could never see the young baker girl again. Nelana told everyone she knew that she had only recently discovered her pregnancy, and 'gave birth' a month later.
They raised the child as their own, but Nelana kept her distance, as she did not love the girl. Had she not grown accustomed to the life she had, she would have left him when the child first appeared, but she kept it a secret so Daereth's name would not be tarnished and she could keep her lifestyle.
Growing up, Maravalia longed for her mother's love, but she never received it. Her mother was always off working or just locked away in her room, busy with one thing or another. Her father showered her with plenty of love, but it wasn't the same, and she wished to do something that would please her mother. One day, when she was scarcely older than six her mother decided she needed some practical skills, and sent her away to a boarding school that would teach Maravalia to become a lady. Not only did this remove Maravalia from the house, and therefore Nelana's hair, but it also gave the girl adequate skills to gain her a suitor later in life.
Away at boarding school, Maravalia learned things such as reading and writing, sewing and embroidering, singing and music, among other things. Maravalia made a few close friends during her time there, and remains in contact with them still. At age eleven, Maravalia was taken out of the boarding school at her mother's request, as she had found a suitor for her daughter and wished to get the marriage under way. Her father and his best friend Lanuss Kadoe, a man Maravalia calls her uncle, were against this idea for a number of reasons; not only was Maravalia too young to marry, but the suitor her mother had found was a middle-aged man who, despite being nobility, they thought too old for Maravalia.
For over a year her parents and uncle argued, until finally it was decided that the engagement was off. During this time Maravalia lived with Lanuss, and he began tutoring her in the art of magic. While there, Maravalia learned many things and there developed her obsession with nobility and their ideals, taking their believes to be her own. She didn't really take to spells and charms, finding them hard to remember and hard to cast, despite her fondness for them. When Uncle Lanuss's wife, Omerna showed her potion making and similar crafts, however, Maravalia couldn't get over how simple it was for her to learn. While hard and taxing, crafts seemed simpler to Maravalia, but that is most likely due to the fact that she was absolutely awful at applied magic. She took to the craft like a bird takes to water and was knowledgeable enough to return to her parent's home at the age of fifteen, although she visited often for more lessons.
While living in her uncle's home, he and his wife ad treated Maravalia like their daughter, lavishing her with gifts and taking her with them to all the events they attended, something Maravalia loved and was thrilled with. Part of the reason so much love and affection was sent her way was that it was deemed Omerna could not have children, and because her mother showed her no love, Maravalia thrived under the love and devotion from Omerna and Lanuss. However, during the year Maravalia turned eighteen, Omerna gave birth to a boy, surprising everyone. Maravalia's visits, once celebrated, were sometimes considered a nuisance, as babies require a lot of care and attention, and trying to attend to another while a baby is in the house was not always a help. Though she would help out often, and she was not a horrible sitter, Maravalia began to feel as one would if their parents were spend all their time with the new baby, despite the fact Omerna and Lanuss were not her parents.
Because she wasn't getting as much attention as she was use to getting at her uncle's house, Maravalia spent more time at home. As she was older, her mother believed her to be more tolerable, and spent more time with Maravalia then she ever had. Loving the attention she'd gained from her mother, Maravalia attempted to copy her mother's mannerisms, and added those to her own, becoming more calculating and snobbish than she had before. Her mother taught her to strive for success, because Nelana would not associate with a failure. The words hurt, and Maravalia strove to find a way to become successful, even more so than her father. However, unlike her father, she would not be content to just have a successful career, Maravalia wanted too to reach the status of nobility.
Unsure of how to reach this status unless through marriage, she tried everything she could to gain the people's trust, for if she became loved enough and did something wonderful, perhaps then the queen might knight her, and she could then ascend to nobility.
Extra Maravalia, in her attempt to become a strong summoner, conjured up her first summon, Ranae.

Daereth Cresen: FatherDaereth is an overall happy man who dotes on his daughter. He tries not to spoil her, though, and believes in hard work. He will not give Maravalia rule over his company until he believes she is ready to handle it. Nelana Cresen: MotherNelana is a cold woman who does not much care for Maravalia, despite the love she gives. The older Maravalia gets, the more tolerant Nelana becomes. Lanuss Kadoe: UncleLanuss is not related to Maravalia by blood. He met Daereth as a child, and they became close friends. As they grew older, they remained very close. Because he was over often and always wanted kids of his own, he insisted Maravalia call him 'Uncle' and that is now how she thinks of him. Lanuss is a nobleman who is a high ranking official in the Ruse Guard. Omerna Kadoe: Uncle's WifeOmerna is a rater small woman who works with potions, and other magical mixtures. Maravalia does not consider Omerna to be her her aunt, despite Lanuss being her uncle. After spending a long time at her house, she has developed a relationship with Omerna similar to that of a loving mother and daughter. FN Kadoe: BoyFN is the son of Lanuss and Omerna. Ranae: SummonRanae's real name is (Cle... I can't recall right now). Being a very simple summon, he didn't mind so much when Maravalia denounced his name and gave him a newer, simpler, more sophisticated name. Ranae is more than a bit dim, and often doesn't understand things told to it. However, Ranae does have a very good memory, and though he doesn't understand what he's heard, he can recall the information with ease, as long as he is recalling it in a timely manor. Ranae has an excellent memory, but can only retain information for so long before he loses it.
